I was plateaued for years until Sam woke me up and I started tracking my macros in October (+1lb/ week for 5 months. 160 to 184lbs. Thank you Sam). I have since accepted his bulk to 200lbs mandate
@len3169 I wish it was 24lbs of muscle bro, but the reality of bulking will always mean body fat going on at the same time, natural or enhanced, albeit to a lesser degree in the latter case. I'm natural and expect to cut down to about 168 before my next bulk, currently 176lbs. The rate of weight gained is solely a matter of the extent of the caloric surplus, and yes sir, 1lb/ week for 5 months is not an easy task for a hard eater like me. I may take the next one a bit slower, but I was overdue for a hard bulk like this one. Highly recommend
Sam what you said about combining weight training and cardio is so true people can’t understand why I’m able to eat whatever I want and have the physique that I have it’s because I’m insanely active I’m constantly burning calories I play basketball I skateboard I work a labor job I’m always moving then I bodybuild on top of that being active is the key

love seeing the planet fitness lifts. im about to graduate uni soon and have gotten a planet fitness membership a few weeks back. im positive I set off the lunk alarm once so that alone has me looking at other gyms, but pfit is still cheap and very much lets you get a good workout so I'll continue going

Good point regarding calorie intake for people that are active... For example arctic explorers need to eat around 8000 calories per day on an expedition... So the more you burn the more you can eat
I agree with sam about the number of sets. For the last couple of months i have been doing 28 sets per week and seen decent results. But in june im am gonna do 20 sets per week. Train each muscle group twice per week.
The reality is rarely as daunting as your imagination. For most people if they just bit the bullet and went to the gym afterwards they'd be pleasantly surprised how chill it was. Most people are too focused on their workout to even notice you.

Bro. I go to the gym with a shirt that has " I ❤️ TACOS " along with my green reindeer pajama pants . When I see people that don't seem to know what they are doing i go grab the 5lb dumbells and curl them or just walk by them so they don't feel so out of place. Its become my uniform to a point. Sometimes I see people doing the same exercise sequence as I was doing and it brings me so much joy!

You know Sam after 3500-4000 calories of real food…. in order to hit that 5000 plus calories it really is all about the snacks or high calorie sweets….back in the day i remember that’s what everyone did to hit that level on their bulking stage…. Lee priest was a young man in the bodybuilding magazines when I started & Kevin Levrone was one of my favorite bodybuilder’s and they all used some sweets to hit the high calorie numbers and your right doing cardio really helps..one of the things I done was use home made 1000 calorie protein shakes…. I worked manual labor all my life Sam I appreciate you saying that count’s as my cardio …
Great common sense wisdom, as usual. Noticed how you seemed to be trying to *not* do the old pigeon head/neck movement during the incline smith press. That's really good, as that will protect your joints more (along with keeping the blades down and back). Might want to try a set or two of chest cable flyes at a higher height setting. When 'rebuilding our cars' (to use your analogy) we still got to be careful what we put in the tank, otherwise - much later on - fuel hoses, oil lines, and gaskets will get gunked up. [Just saying, as I'm driving an old clunker.] Stay strong! 😀

try to use a thumbless grip, i found that a thumbless grip on pulldowns and pull ups help emphasize the lats much better. And ofcourse use straps if it gets hard. Also i had much better core stability for some reason on pull ups which resulted in more reps. Just a thought.

People will laugh when I tell them that I work out at Planet Fitness, like I don't get it those MTS Hammer Strength machines have 300lbs on the stack, and the smith machine can go up to 600lbs, like how would that not be enough for all but the top 1% of people? The only thing I am maxing out the stack on is the leg extension machine, and I can just do some more reps.
