Tonka Truck Rescue From The Rust Pile
HTML-код

- This Tonka rescue is one of the rustier projects I have attempted! The surface rust was not as bad as some of the other toy restorations I have completed, but the parts that were rusted, were extremely rusted through! By the time it was done I had a ton of pitting and missing material to deal with! Check out the video for some sandblasting, powder coating, and some serious sheet metal repair!

THATS AND AWSOME PICKUP. LOVE THE COLOR.
Wow, nice restoration mate. That silver base paint sure made the color pop. I bet it would have looked good in a sunset orange metallic color also. And the "trick" with the bedliner worked really well.
We know a certain narrater whose face could use a hug from a lonely Xenomorph...
Absolutely love this. This truck reminds of my childhood. I’m glad I found your Facebook page so I could watch your videos on RUclips.
As soon as the truck went back together, I was thinking BIGFOOT. Just needed the decals on the side. That blue looks lovely. Nice save with the truck bed. The bed coating looks wonderful.
For the truck bed, maybe something like a wooden bed could have been a nice choice ? (just saying, I'm no expert) =)
Mark Meadows h
USA*1 used to be blue .
@@brianburgett5894 I thought it was originally white
Had this or one very similar when I was a kid. Had a yellow motorcycle that clipped in the back. Nice restoration!
The biggest part of your videos that appealed to me was the lack of background music or narration. I will always enjoy your work but I'll have to enjoy it with the volume on mute from here on out. Not a fan of the narrating.
I think RUclips might be to blame with no sound videos or something like that... Might have no choice but to have sound? I could be wrong...
@@MatthewJorgensen1968 Well,I can't stand silent vidoe,s ,maybe go and watch Charlie Chaplin !!!😆
do you ever sell any of these? i love the truck sure took me back to a kid
Love the narration. Sound kind of like the HAL 9000 from 2001: A Space Odyssey.
The bot voice is so out of place. Some of the worst channels on RUclips use it all the time - it's not natural-sounding at all.
Talk about flashback. I had forgotten some of those trucks back in my childhood had removable wheels!
i dont remember the wheels that come off like that with the ones i had when i was younger. 🤔
That is true!
Kinda meh about the narrator. I'm used to you doing episodes AMSR style. Also no detailing of the interior, no one seems to paint or weather the seats/interior. Aside from that, this restoration was phenomenal!!! The truck bed solution, that blue over chrome finish was spectacular! Love it. And the chrome around the rim of the wheels. Love it! Thanks for sharing.
Second best part of the video - the sandblasting.
Best part of the video - the kids cheering when we see the sandblaster.
100% agree! 😁
Personal opinion, but I enjoyed the lack of commentary in your videos; you were so good at making the pictures tell the whole story. I appreciate your desire to make money from the affiliate links, but for me, the comments from the little figure interrupted the flow and detracted from the experience. As I say, just my opinion though - sorry. :-/
Mine too. Glad I'm not the only one. Lol.
I kind of liked the commentary it was a nice little break from just watching the build not that the build was boring or anything but it was kind of cool to hear the details. But that's just my opinion also.
Honestly not the biggest fan of the narration but won't stop me from watching your vids.
I don't really like the narration. I'll still watch, but I'll turn sound off. Sorry. Still liked the restoration, though.
The second you said you had a different idea for the bed I was like “bed liner” takes me back to my childhood. Great job sir.
That was a pretty brilliant save on that truck bed. Thing looked like Swiss cheese.
I had this truck when I was a kid. There was a motorcycle that clipped in the back of it. I spent a lot of time playing with it.
Same here. I had a blue one. A favorite.
I had one too. Drove the wheels off of it!
I had one identicle to this one 40 years ago and played till no play was left. I found a really nice one on ebay a few years ago. Its on shelf in living room.
That cargo bed was almost completely gone! It amazing that you where able save it, I would have thought that you would have had to replace it for sure!
Been watching the channel for a while now and love the restorations. Thank you for showing support for the front line workers and using reusable gloves. Subscribed and will continue support for the channel!
Loved seeing an old favorite getting restored. Great video! Looking for the SUV that Duke came with. Also, please tell Duke that I’m sorry I taped an M-80 to his back when I was nine.
Also, the narrating was a fun touch.
As someone who works full-time on an ambulance I can attest to how difficult it's become for a small agency like mine to get nitrile gloves during this. I really appreciate you consideration and I love the content!
with the blue paint the truck look's like BIGFOOT.
I used to play with my version of this truck while watching The Fall Guy and Simon & Simon. Thanks for the nostalgic trip down memory lane!
Sometimes I really wonder if I'm the only guy who finds the sandblasting part so satisfying... ^^
Lol I enjoy it as well!
Personally, a big thing for me was that these videos had no narration. As another commenter said you managed to make the picture tell the whole story. I'm not a fan of the narration as I think it breaks the flow of the video but if other people enjoy it then that's the way the channel should go!
to bad you added narration ): restore videos don't have talking narrators. so now i have to unsubscribe. Just thought i'd let you know why you lost me.
I will unsubscribe if the bot narration continues too. To each their own I guess!
Video was good, talking about it was rather boring.
I love watching you breathe new life into old toys. I think you color choice on this truck is great. That might just be because. I lived just a stone's throw. From were the original Bigfoot monster truck was built. When I was growing up though.
An opinion, a suggestion and a request:
Opinion) I've always liked Tonka, except the hard plastic tires. If it were me, I would mod them all with rubber tires, maybe with R/C tires or something similar. But that's just me, you do you.
Suggestion) Get as much rust as possible off before sandblasting. I know the transformation is all part of the experience, but you're also introducing the rust into the blast media, which is then impregnated into the parts. Another idea would be, put a strong magnet in the bottom of the cabinet to collect the iron-oxide particles.
Request) Duke, could we get a bit more info on the powder coating process?
I love it but ive never been a fan of roll bars. I know its a 70's and 80's thing and everyone had them with the KCs back then and that's the timeline from when these were mass produced. I'm just personally not a fan. Hell, I don't even like diamond plate tool boxes. Id just rather just throw a bag behind the seat with my tools for the day.
Love the truck, dislike the narrator. Using a bot voice made it even more annoying. If this guy becomes a regular feature, I honestly won't remain as a subscriber. I am but one opinion and it's your channel and your creativity hard at work in it. I respect that a lot, but it's just my personal taste. Regardless, I wish you all the best!
Hi dear friend. My name is Hadi and I live in Iran. I was amazed at your accuracy and creativity in doing things. dude I am a fan of your channel. I introduce your RUclips channel to all the people of my country and I pray to God that you and your family and everyone you love are always healthy.😍❤🙏🙏
What a wonderful thing to say . I hope for the same things for you and your family.
Enjoy your videos. Personally I prefered your captioning over the little talking Tonka dude, but that just might be me :)
Nope, me too.
I have the exact same truck from when I was a kid. My son plays with it now. I got it for my 5th birthday. I'm 44, so Tonkas last.
It's a nope on Duke, but a big yup on the restoration. Bed liner was a perfect save. I kind of wondered why you didn't salvage the antenna and roof spoiler though.
Great work. I like the kids sound byte just before the sand blasting.
Could you do a xylophone sound byte on the opening of the done power coating process.
My kids had those big tonka trucks with the removable wheels. They loved them and the miles they put on those toys. Incredible ❤❤❤❤
Very nice paint job and it looks like a monster truck time to jump over and crush cars the fall guys pickup.....
Great video, shame about the narration, why dont you have a paperclip popping up occassionally, that will be less irritating.
I think I still have that truck in my attic. If I still have it I know I will have the spare tire and the motorbike.
I really enjoyed the way this restoration was presented, Fun but informative
I never understood the purpose of the quick detach wheels but i had a few back in those days 😎
Nice looking truck. I did one for my granddaughter. Thanks for sharing
Yes , I enjoyed the car's bluish-purple paint color after the restoration .
Personally I'm not a fan of the talking. I don't mind it at the beginning but I don't like the talking. I like the typing more but I will end up not watching your vids anymore just cause I prefer no talking but with way, I like your content and you're not a bad creator, it's just the talking is what I don't like
So, you're saying that you do not like the talking?
@@TRGRESTORATIONS yes. I'm not a fan of it. I watch these videos to relax and fall asleep to and I assume other people do as well. Don't get me wrong, just because I don't like it doesn't mean others are the same, it's just not my thing. But to answer your question, I do not like the talking.
@@Ben-zi2lm I feel the same as you.
Where do you get the replacement parts from? Is there an actual supplier for these old toys?
Great channel. Tonka Man is creepier than all get up, but hey.
Well Duke you made the video way more interesting so much my kids enjoyed it. The color looked awesome well we will be standing by 4 the next 1 Duke .
This truck came with a jack so you could change the tires
You should've kept the seats tan. I usually like them restored to stock, but as my mother always said, "To each thier own"
I actually thought that you was going to make a wooden liner for the truck bed. But well done!
I thought that too!
Great job! The bed liner was a great solution, looks very cool.
Hello from Germany. Thank You for this great video. It‘s Inspiration and fun!
Danke
Wow I'm 71 in 3 weeks and I want one😜!!!
❤️ Lovely 😍... Very nice work 👍👌
I always enjoy your work. Brings me back to my childhood. I was especially pleased to see you did away with that ugly air dam on the top so the roll bars could shine. Very cool!!!!
Holy smokes, Tim! You're the best my friend!
Please, go back to your usual format. I turned off the sound and am not interested in the doll or the computer voice showing up.
Same here.
Needed to put a highlight stripe to accent hood and sides
Agree
Truck lost some of the time period style by not having the spoiler or c/b antenna. I agree it needs something else to help finish it off. Still darn impressive!
Not a fan of the color you chose for the truck. Would of like to see a retro color and side graphics. But overall good job.
Oh well done! That bed lining was brilliant, beautiful job all the way around!
You Pimped that Ride !!!
I remember when they came out with the wheels you could take on and off. It was cutting edge stuff when I was a kid. Great save with the bedliner. I love these videos and thank you for the explanations and tool descriptions
That truck bed was a disaster! Kudos to you for finding a way to fix it!
Lose the narrator, please. Not needed and irritating.
Bot voices are awful.
Cool! Love the gloves!
What decade is this one from? I'm guessing 80's from the plastic front, but I'm not sure. I like the new mascot, too.
DAMN! Taking OFF that wing made a big difference. But the color choice is dead on. Last, childhood memories with the removable wheels! Maj, yep, I remember those days too. WOW!!
I probably do not have a life - night after night watching toy trucks, furniture, cars, watches and a long list of rusty things restored and given a new life?. Sandblasting is a blast. I know how to turn a piece of firewood into a beautiful bowl. I know how to repair a Bobcat. I could take apart a Rollex. Chair with a broken leg - no problem, veneer lifting, no problem. But your Yippee! Moment is the tops. Thanks for these videos.
It is so cool to see you saving the toys if yesteryear.
I can remeber playing with that truck when I was a kid.
I would add some "K.C. looking lights to the roll bar and detail the grill and headlights with a black outline.
I would only suggest taking it a step further, ad some decals or pinstripes/ scallops anything to make it unique.
Other than that 10/10 that blue looks awesome! 👍😎
They made a bronco version of this too. Me and my neighborhood buddy each had one. We were small enough back then to actually sit and ride on them! I'll run across this from time to time and I can't imaging being that little now that I'm 6'3 and 280 now! Brought back many memories. Great videos. Greetings from east Tennessee.
My husband has one of these, from his childhood. I was hoping for a restoring to original, but you worked with what you had. Love the Illusion Blue!
Sos un genio! Te quedo buenísima ! Acá en Argentina la marca de juguetes de chapa se llama San Mauricio de los años '60, y estaría bueno verte reparar una de esas! .La verdad que te los compraría , no sé si los vendes . Excelente trabajo ! Felicitaciones !
Hi I was wondering where you got the new windshield from?
www.gasolinealleytoys.com
Ok thanks...I have looked through their tonka inventory and can't seem to find it. I'll keep searching. Was the roof spoiler that you got new as well? I need one
I'm surprised you didn't put the antenna back on.
Me too
An Amazing Restoration!
You read my mind when you used the truck bed liner paint. Awesome video but I think doing the underbody a different color would have made it pop a little more sine there is so much exposed due to the "lift" on the wheels. Also the hood seemed a little battered but not sure that was fixable. I just found your channel and I love it!!!! Do you keep these or resell them? Keep up the great work!!
Amazing piece of work, I like it very much. Just curious, I found that some parts were missing for the finished car compared to the original one, may I ask the reason why?
The spray-in bed liner was an awesome idea! I’m glad you didn’t paint the truck black… the blue looks fantastic!!!
G'day and greetings from Tasmania Australia you did a absolutely terrific restoration job on that truck this one wasn't easy due to the rust but you came up with good solutions to the problems of rust. Really liked watching this one, kind regards John stay safe.
You do a great job. Very cool videos :) But this helping little dude should be a pop up icon just with text bar somewhere in the corner :) speech is distracting :) greetings from Poland :)
I got one of these trucks when I was five (birthday present). It was black with a big eagle sticker on the bonnet and flame stickers on the sides, it had a red / orange motorbike clipped in the back. My sister broke the front forks on the motorcycle and chewed the rear tyre (she was only three) and I played with it till the stickers came off and the wheels got so loose they would come off by themselves. It was finally sent to Tonka heaven courtesy of my sister after she left it in the driveway and dad backed the car over it, it was 14 years old.
You really _worked your fingers to the bone_ on this project.
That Aleutian Blue looks phenomenal! I thought the truck bed was too far gone... kudos in the save! Superb restoration!
No ariginals
These toys was the best..not like they have today....wish I would have kept all of mine back in the 70s to early 80s.....
Omg ihad the same truck actually i think i might still have it , on my mom’s house , actually that truck came with an orange motorcycle and im just restoring that motorcycle right now
Hi TRG 👋👋👋 good to see you 🤝🤝🤝 awesome restoration 🔥🔥🔥💣💣💣👍👍👍✌🏻🇷🇺
Great job love the Tonka hiy narrating. Bed liner was a great choice. I was thinking Big foot also. Keep up.tje great work. Thanks👍
Came out nice... I'm surprised you didn't use the spoiler and whip antenna... I think it would look tougher if you did
Awesome informative Video experience Y'alls God Bless Ya Prayers 🙏
Holy cow! I think that was mine! I had that exact one and broke that window exactly like that... crazy!!
Too bad you don't do restorations on 1:1 scale pickup trucks. My old Ranger has some massive rust holes in the cargo bed and bumpers.
It turned out really good! 😄 The bed liner was a great save!
I was a bit annoyed at the emotionless voice the first few minutes, I felt as if I was watching some sort of video commercial, but getting extra info was really nice so I grew interested about what he was saying after a few minutes lol
Excelent job , dude , now i know how to restore the truck the day I’ll found on my mom’s house, but what happened with the roof and the plastic antena ? The stickers? Are you plannig to repro de stickers ? Where did you found the new glass ? Is there any company who sells parts ? Thanks for this video , i remember that truck came with a fire eagle sticker in the hood if you make the stickers make an update video
looks awesome nice work and the truck bad looks like new not like before 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🤘🏼🙂
Can you tell me what are the most common sizes for rivets and axel caps that you come across on the tonka and also where you get them from....thank you
The narration is a bit distracting and takes away from the overall "experience" of watching this video.
You did a great job, but I think adding some more detail to the lights would have been better, but nonetheless great job on restoring this cool Tonka toy
