The listeners who think this symphony is too long are completely mistaken. With his striking melodic/harmonic formulae - extended by repetition of a few exotic progressions, Silvestrov produces pure Symphonic Form. You may not agree with the "content", the "sound material" is not the main poin of the piecet: it is the unfurling of a process - and very beautiful it is. Don't be taken in by your own limitations!
Surely, if someone finds something "too long", they find it too long; they can't be "mistaken". They just have a different idea of what "too long" means! Of course, you have to give this music time to make its effect, you have to 'go with it' rather than against it, but the question is: does the whole add up to more than the sum of its parts? Certainly parts of it sound like empty gestures (to my ears, anyway) - especially from around 3:30 - and I don't get a sense of direction, just drift, as in the 5th Symphony. Of the symphonies I've listened to so far, No. 7 is by far the most effective; it really takes you somewhere! Thanks for posting anyway; I'd much rather listen to new music than more Beethoven.
These are more than citations; Silvestrov literally has stolen from Liebermann Concerto for Jazz Band and Symphony Orchestra, Introduction, from 1954. Compare! Nevertheless highly interesting!

Composer this wonderful should be known by more people
I have heard the opposite of Silvestrov a man of great kindness. Mean spirited Trolls are at work here shame
Imperialistic Neo-nazis are in Putler's Russia which starts wars all over the region
Silvestrov only supports his people and his country
Mozart liked escrements and Beethoven supported Napoleon, should they be forgotten by everyone?

I don't care what anyone says, this is great art.
underrated and wonderful
I am a big fan of this man s musical world which he calls Meta music .His romanticism transcends our modern world
..no direction to go..like a hauting ghost in a colourful musical maze..
🇧🇷 ♥️
A stunning opening. Let's see!!

I agree (and have the same problem with Symphonies nos 5 and 6), but do try no. 7; it's something special!
Thanks for the tip.
Danke schön!!! Bamberg
thank you!!!
Cosmicism!

Unfortunately, TV has made everything "too long". Perhaps it isn't the piece that's too long, but your attention span may be too short.
@@stephenkutos6400tv? what about tv series?
I'd love to get the name of the painter for the artwork on this youtube posting.. It reminds me of Marc Chagall, but I don't think it's by him..

Wo bin ich? Wer bin ich??
