Michael Obst - Kristallwelt III for ensemble and tape
There is a lack of such music. Such fresh, unbiased. It can compete coherently with the Symphonies of Wellesz, Lajtha and Milhaud. 9.31 Similarity with the 2nd Symphony of M. Vermeulen!
The first thing that came to my mind when listening to this work, is that this could be Copland's 4th Symphony... But then came Vaughan Williams in the second part (Greensleeves)....
Symphonious you really are THE KING.
Whats the painting, looks like am AI thing?
I forget to add who it's by. I've found the artist ... (see description).
I like this composer
Thank you for this. Interesting piece
I can find so little about this composer. Assuming he's Russian, he successfully works within the traditional values of the symphony orchestra. His writing is controlled and mostly atmospheric, creating juxtaposition subjects. An interesting symphony that needs to be heard more than once to appreciate.
I searched his name using Cyrillic letters and found this which hopefully will work. Copy the article and plug it into Google translate. It's short but you'll get a bit more info than seems to generally be available in English ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%A2%D0%BE%D0%BB%D1%81%D1%82%D0%B5%D0%BD%D0%BA%D0%BE,_%D0%93%D0%B5%D0%BD%D0%BD%D0%B0%D0%B4%D0%B8%D0%B9_%D0%AE%D1%80%D1%8C%D0%B5%D0%B2%D0%B8%D1%87

@@david1116 Thank you very much indeed. Most kind of you. David A.
Kancheli's music sounds like it came from another universe. Thats how Much of a giant he was.
Loved it. So inventive. An atmospheric use of a large orchestra. A role model for today's inspiring composers to use the forces they have to produce music without unnecessary gimmickry.
A 4-channel-tape *is* a gimmick, though.
This is good music. I want to hear more of this composer's music. Very British. Tonal. Great strings writing. Lush harmonies. I really like this ! Some Impressionism but with some drama here.
His Second Symphony & Mass now on Spotify.
fascinant envoutant beau
Much of this is quite stunning. So glad I had a listen.
This is the same year Robert Simpson's 9th symphony premiered..there is a little bit of similarity in the slow movement here and some moments in Simpson's great opus. I'm liking the strength of the motifs, the interesting material here. It's a very strong work and I have not listened to Rochberg before, but am impressed with this.
Quite exciting, direct quotation of Sibelius' Symphony no. 6 at 19:30, followed swiftly by Tchakovsky's 6th as well. In general, Yoshimatsu's works always seem to blend a heartfelt admiration for other composers with his own visions for music. His work always feels like a treat that rewards you for paying close attention. EDIT: Seems as though the quirk is quotation from known Symphony 6's. Definitely heard a snippet of Beethoven there, and possibly Dvorak, though I'm less confident in my identification of that one.
Pipkov dedicated this composition to the Republican fighters of the Spanish Civil War, which had ended the previous year in their defeat and post-war persecution. No pasaran! (I have an International Brigades replica flag hanging in my home office/hobby room)
Maybe a desolate bel canto scream
Intense. Beautiful. Dynamic. Love this. To me this the closest he came to the Mahler 5th Symphony Adagietto. Poignant.
Lovely quote from LG on 'synthetic composing'; as one who suffered 50 years ago ridicule on my reactionary instinctive "wrongness" of this experimental over-run, I now allow myself an occasional smile of condolence to its disciples, whether they want it or not. Great work Radio 3 and its predecessors.....
Wonderful!
From the 6th to the 9th symphony of Pettersson , I have the impression of travelling in Himalaya . ( 9th is for me the Everest) . Empathy with a suffering world. A transcendental trip
Isn't this the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra performing, not the Palo Alto? This is such a fine symphony, & this performance is thoroughly professional, spot on.
Nice.
This is damn strong symphony by a composer i never heard of. This isnt Pastorale music. Fabulous 😊
Great music...
💎
Definition of a potboiler.
Molt bo!
From Tom and Jerry
It's those two notes..
...Love this music - and You, Valentin!
Now I understand why You, Alfred and Arvo were friends... Love You and Your Music! P.S: A deep bow to You, Maestro!
Ethereal and fascinating.
Love it!
?
Spot on. On Being Monad.
sound but not music.
What's the painting shown above?
I've just added the painting info to the description. Sometimes I forget .......
Metal as always, Smolsky! 🤘
Mysterious, scary music, but beautiful.
some really nice passages of music as we see often in Gipps work,..Bravo!
Sounds like from his dodecaphonic period...
The composer's name is Yoshimatsu. (NOT 'Yostimatsu'.)
These are more than citations; Silvestrov literally has stolen from Liebermann Concerto for Jazz Band and Symphony Orchestra, Introduction, from 1954. Compare! Nevertheless highly interesting!
