MCU spidey is really bad. Just watching the cartoon version has a better Peter Parker. I don't know what mainstream has with making male superhero characters simp and revolve their whole plot about the girls they like. Meanwhile cartoon spidey made his shot with a cheerleader girl he got rejected and moved on. Spidey PS4 broke up with MJ and he moved on and fucked cat girl. Like all other versions of spidey actually reflect his confidence from being spiderman back to his main character Peter Parker. MCU peter parker is a fucking idiot and we're supposed to be led to believe he's this genius dude that makes jokes all the time and keeps his cool as spiderman it just doesn't make sense. MCU peter parker sounds like he's incompetent all around to be spiderman and has no sense of responsibility at all. Terrible Spidey

@Erik Kemeey The opening patrol in Homecoming sticks out for me. He is on the phone leaving messages like a clingy girlfriend while things are slow in Queens. You know what Peter Parker does when things are quiet in Queens? He heads over to Brooklyn or crosses the bridge and takes a swing around Manhattan. He doesn't fret over the chance to prove himself to an egomaniac like Tony Stark. He does what he does because he believes his powers give him an obligation to help people.
As for Andrew, yeah, his motivations were far for selfish, on a vigilante for his uncle's killer, but he had the trash talk down and showed the kind of mindset that would make a costume to fight crime.
If superheroes didn't already exist in the MCU, and without an Uncle Ben, I'm not convinced this version of Peter Parker would have the motivation to do what he does.

It’s interesting. On one hand, the MCU Spider-man trilogy did a good job at capturing the general tone of the original Spider-man comics (high school era) where the adventures were light hearted and conflicts were resolved in a single issue. But it also takes an entire trilogy to have Peter develop into a more independent hero with each movie essentially giving him variants of the same arc about “becoming his own Spider-man”.
When you think about it, Peter’s characterization in Civil War and Homecoming are pretty different. There’s certain similarities but also some stuff that doesn’t line up. Because Spider-man was put into the movie so late into production, they had to introduce core Spider-man traits off the bat with how little time they had to build up this new version of the character. He’s shown to be smart with him building computers, making his tech, being generally capable with his powers, etc. There’s an allusion to Uncle Ben without spending too much time into it because we already know the story by heart, he feels a responsibility to help others, and he has a level of cockiness that leads to mistakes because of how young he is. Him being a fanboy when meeting the Avengers makes some sense because he’s only been at this 6 months max, so it’s a big step up. There was also potential for future conflict with how Tony essentially blackmailed Peter into going to Germany. Overall, his youth is a key factor at play here and it’s done well enough in this movie for it to work.
But when Homecoming comes along, they amplify certain traits and make him to be even more inexperienced and childlike than before. He seems less like someone who made a mistake and feels a sense of responsibility to help others and more like a fanboy playing dress up because he got powers. Uncle Ben has less and less of a presence, Aunt May just exists to be the subject of the joke about everyone wanting to sleep with her (and then suddenly becoming super important in NWH), and Peter overall feels like a separate character because of what was added to the characterization. Ned Leeds is introduced and we have no idea how long they’ve been friends (also, Peter gives the sense that if he were to get powers, he’d immediately tell Ned and become a superhero fright off the bat. No sense that this cinnamon roll of a teenager could ever be selfish with his powers and choose to let a criminal go. He’s more likely to have gotten scared and done nothing out of fear), the one joke in CW about Empire Strikes Back has been evolved into Peter being a big Star Wars fan, he doesn’t feel like he was ever bullied at school outside of Flash making the occasional joke, etc.
Civil War Peter feels like a kid who has some baggage hidden underneath the excitement and confusion. Homecoming Peter feels like a kid who always wanted to be a superhero and then suddenly became one (almost like Izuku Midoriya in My Hero Academia). There was potential to delve into the aftermath of Ben’s death or how Tony manipulated him. But Ben gets wiped from this Peter’s origin and the headcanons of Irondad and Spider-son became the foundation of this forced relationship between Peter and Tony that had no actual narrative writing involved in developing it

Fair point. I only wished they had had a better script for Maguire. The story for his spiderman was not the closest to the comics. For instance, his first gf was not Mary Jane, but Gwen Stacy who died to the Green Goblin in the bridge incident. Only later he got together with MJ. Is Maguire´s spiderman, he saved MJ in the same bridge incident, and later on he got together with Gwen when he was changed by the venon suit. Which in fact he got from the Secret Wars saga, and the suit took some time to affect him. So there were too many storyline changes for TObey´s movies, but regarding the character itself, he was the closest to the traditional spiderman .

If it is made well by people that understand the character and want to add or tweak certain things to help better serve the character and story, then it works. For the Amazing Spiderman & Spider Tommy boy movies they miss the mark completely and are made by people that lack the creativity or don't care about the character. Sam Raimi's is still the best movie adaption we got out of the character. You want a great animated version, look no further than the 1994 animated series.

Tony Stark is practically his uncle ben, and like you said hes a privleged peter parker. Toby’s spiderman had to deal with grief, real life problems. Im sure any average person could relate to Tobey’s spiderman in some way and see theirself in him

I think what would have made the MCU Spider-Man good was just with a few tweaks. That would be keeping his character as it is. Have Tony put all the superhero jazz into the kid. Have Peter really like it. Have Aunt May be her age. But do show Peter stopping quite a bit of crime. Stopping muggers, getting a cat out of a tree, Have him help a old lady across the street, and have him shit out rainbow. Basically show him as what he did before Tony picked him up. But have him still want more. The fight in Civil War really got him wanting more of it. Like a dopamine hit. But he never gets it. Don't have Vulture be connected to Liz and just have Mark Allan who becomes Molten Man be mentioned aka show up here but just as Liz's Brother. With that keep quite a bit of homecoming the same and all. Don't have the Vulture be so personal and Finds out who Spider-Man is. Just give him a Grudge against Osborn that by some point of the movie gets fleshed out even more as Osborn steaks his Technology to be shown for the news. This causes Adrian Toomes to want revenge. So he steals Technology and trucks with Osborn stuff and continue with it. After that the big change is. Have what Tony says later after the explosion with the boat actually affect Peter. Have it stay in his mind. Have him mention it throughout the 3rd Act. Then by the end he doesn't just reject the Iron Spider Suit. He rejects everything from Tony. He realizes. He can't just rely upon others like Stark. Doing so will just make him depend on the Avengers. Which eith the whole movie makes him realize this. So killing Two birds with 1 stone. Easy. I successfully got Peter to start relying upon himself and I have Peter evolve in the movie and take that experience into the rest of the movies. My line would be different on How it'd being played out now. But the next movie would have him stop relaxing, The next movie after that would teach Peter to not trust people like Mysterio as easily especially with his Identity, and finally No Way Home would strip Peter of his innocence. There. I made a Saga of movies that evolved Peter overtime that once No way home rolled around. He wasn't the same kid that Tony brought to Germany. I did make lots of changes. But those changes were for the better. As I kept Peter as the same but I added more Super Villains, stripped Peter of something close to him movie by movie, and I've made a Spider-Man that is almost the exact same Spider-Man from thr MCU. What a whirl

You're absolutely right, Tom Holland is a good actor, I honestly have no problem with him; it's the writers who are to blame, too light hearted, far too connected to Iron Man (save for his connection to the Civil War story and the gathering of all heros vs Thanos), far too heavy on pop culture references; don't get me started on the costume (save for the Iron Spider suit), relying too much on technology; with respect to Holland though, my favorite Spider-Man is actually Toby Maguire, never cared for Andrew Garfield's take.
Also, with respect to your opinion on them, I actually loved the Fantastic Four movies, the 2015 film is certainly a piece of s***, I feel the Tim Story movies were good, not perfect, but good.

MCU Spider-Man, even up to this point, is still a “with great mess he makes, comes more ass-saving parents” character. First Tony Stark, then Happy, and now Dr. Strange, and even himself from other timelines to wipe his ass! I am so convinced by how you buddies in the comments say about the influence of the creative team. MCU keeps putting attractive little leaks to keep people looking forward to the next movie, but each one is just a rush montage of trailers. But they made it, they made millions, they made people cheer, their strategy succeeded. It’s just that I miss the movies when people really tried to tell good stories.

Exactly MCU spiderman is literally a piece of shit for storytelling. I was pretty interested when I saw the trailer on MCU spiderman but the way they introduced him was a massive let down. Spiderman is supposed to be an intelligent near genius level character. Why is it that he's kissing boots to Tony stark? The real spiderman would create his own mechanism or just flat out neglect tony stark's pitty handouts. The character of spiderman in MCU needs always a father figure to be around telling him what to do because his character alone doesn't cut it to be a tab bit interesting or even remotely an individual. Let alone commit intelligent decisions. It's sad that the state of the world is willing to take this garbage entertainment due to flashy effects

Beside, this version of Peter Parker actually showed he's a genius multiple time, being in a high school for smart teenagers, being part of a competition and being actually an important part of the team with the whole people actually panicking when he didn't show up at the competition, him defeating the drones using well crafted plans and even building a makeshift bomb with the parts of a car, restraining Strange in his own dimension using his webs

He's just kissing boots at tony stark every other minute. Him not wanting to be in the avengers is also some mentality of "I'm not good enough" or "I won't disappoint you master stark". Like what the hell is that? Peter in the comics was cocky. It was actually fun to see his adventures then. MCU peter is childishly unrealistic. That’s 150 issues, which in comics time is many years. Meaning Peter had been Spider-Man for YEARS prior to the after school hero training arc. So it’s very different because in the MCU as you put it in other comments. Stark is Peter’s Benefactor. As Peter had his own rogues gallery, his own interests, his own supporting cast, etc before he even met Iron Man. In the MCU a lot of Spidey’s corner of the MCU is a byproduct of Iron Man. How stupid do you need to be to not realize this?
You are a sheep dude. I honestly see you and that other dude Omar under every MCU Spider-Man video spewing false info about this character you know nothing about. Last year I sold my spider man comics from issue 1 to 200.. Been collecting for 49 years, And was disappointed in the direction spider man had gone, they basically just want a young kid with no job, girlfriend, real problems and responsibilities, who sucks up to groups just as you put it. the films are good, but were not the spider man I started collecting. The Peter Parker who crushed the Pole on a bus When in anguish... The angry Peter after Stacy's death..death, the drug issues of the #90s,The one who went looking for the crook that killed his uncle, the spider man who nearly drowns at the bottom of a swimming pool..with a broken arm..I think?.. thanks to mysterio's illusions... I absolutely loved these and now we get Peter who moved into a flat with Some boomerang wannabe and a small dinosaur creature.. Although I collected them I couldn't relate, I can still read the old ones and relate, but not the new ones... So now just collect first appearances, like Hallows eve.. the spider man that got me interested in the 70s is dead... Maybe the new ultimate spider man with him having a family will be worth watching.. I'm reading..so hopefully.. So I totally agree with your commentary..also making spider man black like miles Morales just to satisfy a minority and then giving that character the same name with similar powers slightly different costume and 80% of the same villains does not make Morales.. spider man...they might as well have given him another name like spider boy or something except now you've got a spider boy as well... Honestly I could rant on the subject, I'm so annoyed about it all... Marvel Comics has taken away the very character they hooked me in with and ruined it.. And could you have spiderman of the 60s and 70s back with a 21st century twist, who knows, but not this simp, not the one you see today....good job marvel.

I hate how he's given all the keys and still does nothing with them. He cannot stand on his own evident with his dependent relationship with Iron Man without him he has no villains of his own, Vulture is a direct consequence of iron man/avengers, Mysterio again a failure of iron man, and with his 3rd film he relies heavily on other iterations of the character he NEEDED the Spider Man of the past AKA NOSTALGIA take everything out of NWH and it's nothing that's why I hate the movie it's only good because it's Fan Service.

I wish they had added something like that to her character.

I don’t think Tom Holland is the perfect spider man from a writing standpoint but from Tom hollands performance is amazing as spider man. I don’t really think mcu spider man needs to be comic accurate because if I’m telling the truth the mcu isn’t very accurate to comics I’m a lot of places.

This video was really good, to me when i first saw homecoming i liked it, i thought MCU spiderman would be good since it seemed stark was out of the picture
Instead we got far from home with SHIELD and an awful villain
And then we got no way home which replaces uncle ben and all it does is bring back characters from the other movies, which is cool, but makes the movie a mess
Your video was a perfect example of how i feel about MCU spiderman, you deserve way more subs

But if yall disagree with me liking him that's good because everyone's got a opinion yk.

Good video but your description of who Spider-man is in the comics relies on a misconception.
Steve Ditko Spider-man isn't Comic Book Spider-man. His version may have been the original but isn't the one that's stuck.
Steve Ditko Spider-man is a loner, a very bitter and resentful one at that. No interpretation of Spider-man after would be this bitter. He even shouts at protesters. He may be anti-authority in so far that his pride and independence prevents him from being submissive and such, but at the same time, he's not anti-establishment.
OG Peter would have something to say to Spider-punk lol.
Post-Romita Sr. Spider-man mellows out. He's still writen to be a 'standalone' hero but his social group expands, his temperament mellows out and his empathy becomes further highlighted. He even becomes more co-operative with other superheroes.
Even Ultimate Spider-man which is the epitomy of a hot tempered teen already has friends pre-Spider-man and is no where near as bitter and insecure.
The only iteration of Spider-man that could even compare to the pride and bitterness isn't even Peter Parker but Superior ironically enough. But his character faults are far more extreme since he was a villain. He even loses his Avengers membership partly because of his standofish demeanor(alongside his ruthless conduct)

    • @TheMavMan
      @TheMavMan  Год назад +2

Love your take! You're obviously extremely well-versed in all things Spider-Man and I greatly appreciate your point of view. While the Ditko-era was Spidey's most cynical, perhaps, I still believe it was Stan Lee who was driving most of the character arcs and development. I know Ditko disputed how much credit he deserved but, in my humble opinion, the best/most accurate Spider-Man spans from the Ditko to Romita Sr time, which would've been the 100+ issues that Stan Lee wrote. Peter does evolve and plays better with others as time goes on, but he's still an independent, sarcastic loner at the end of the day, which is what all the subservient MCU Spider-Man appearances whiff on prior to No Way Home.
I never got into the Ultimate comics, the art style was a big turn off. The ultimate show had good art, but super goofy, dumbed down direction imo. I think the stories and handling of the characters in the Spectacular show was good, but the art was far too cartoonish for me. But that's just me! Salut, true believer!
