@15:40 Steve you said it. That is exactly what my dad strived to instill in myself and all my friends when I was growing up in Idaho during the early 2000’s. Picking blackberries and fishing in Hells Canyon, gold panning, picking morels in the spring, all formative experiences in my life and all done on the cheap. Camping was about being outside and friends. I’m more of a backcountry backpacking type, so I’ve been wondering what it was about your videos I find so great and I think you summed it up perfectly. It’s “leaning against a tree and eating a can a beans” a simple but grandly human experience. Love your videos, eventually when I get my own camping funds up I’ll be able to start donating to the beer fund. Keep killing it! (P.s. give mountain house another shot, the chicken chili is fantastic. Their beef stew gives everyone the toots and is not pleasant.)
I grew up in suburban NYC and my most fond childhood memories are camping with my dad and my uncles upstate NY. I learned more valuable lessons there than I ever leaned in school. My dad is an amazing cook. We had some awesome campfire meals.

Love it just a simple overnighter. Allot of the County campgrounds here lock the gate but some list that winter camping is okay; just don't want you to drive in so you have to park at the gate. Since its really only one crazy guy like me not much worry on parking. Just sucks to have to ask always stresses me out that the person you talk to may not be the guy that calls to get your car towed.
Every year Steve is one of the few to experience two thanksgivings, one in October, then one the very next month. Happy eating Steve....and Winter camping.
No matter how many years expierence one has with camping seeing glowing eyes just outside the light of a campsite does not make sleeping in a tent feel secure. Lol
Animals are more afraid of you than you are of them. Keep your distance and don't cause anything to bother them and you'll be okay. This is basic knowledge which he seems to lack a lot of
Brandon Kroll still better to be safe than sorry, moose can still show aggressive behaviour on certain situations, getting in the car isn’t half bad off a choice when it comes to safety rather than risking it, since his channel is focused on camping rather than animal behaviour.
@@_MrBread a car wont do shit to stop a moose. Have you seen what hitting a moose does? Now imagine the damage it can do if it wanted to. Keep your distance respect its habitat and the animal. The only ones you really should worry about are bears and cougars. Which are prevalent in Alberta where both me and Steve live. Then again i can't take a man whos lived here for how many years and still doesn't know different animal tracks all that serious. A good camper should be able to tell what animals are near their campsite by their tracks.
Bro I love the cooking and when you get into your sleeping bag. Because that is one of my favorite times and parts about camping getting into a good warm sleeping bag for the night. Nothing better.
Even here in the Mojave desert of California I use a -15F /-26C rated bag in the winter. Temperatures only ever drop to sometimes 17F / -8C. Cold by our standards, but having that bag and a down Parka make a world of difference! I use my summer camping gear for everything else.
I do a very similar Thanksgiving on the trail meal, chicken pouches, stove top, gravy powder package, dried cranberries, corn, and instant mashed potatoes. It's heavy, and bulky but a huge moral boost while backpacking. Keep it up man, I love your outings.

We have a campground similar to that one here in my area in Ohio. It’s free to camp plus they provide big logs or wood slabs for firewood. We take our chainsaw to cut the wood and it’s nice burning wood! Even the permit needed to camp is 100% free!!! It’s nice, they have many different campgrounds with a ton of campsites, and they also have a very very nice one that’s geared more towards family with a huge playground and two huge ponds where kids can fish for free and if they catch a fish with a metal number tag they call it in abs receive a prize!!! It’s called AEP Campground

It’s definitely worth checking out. It also has a memorial site called the big Muskie bucket which is a huge tool they used to make the camps!! Definitely would check it out! It’s out past a little town called Cumberland Ohio off state route 83 then onto state route 78 to go to the Muskie Bucket. (-3°C × 9/5) + 32 = 26.6°F Now you know the formula to convert Celcius to Fahrenheit. (__°C × 9/5) + 32 = __°F To convert Fahrenheit to Celcius the formula is (__°F - 32) × 5/9 = __°C So (26.6°F - 32) × 5/9 = -3°C
Back in the 70's camping with my Dad, he would bring along an aerasol can of hair spray called "Final Net" and upon packing and leaving he'd spray the mantels. Worked every time and prevented damage, burns off on relight, used the same one's for years...
You have the same pragmatic intuition in your cooking expertise. It requires thoughtfulness and experienced planning. Ending entirely in almost tearful joy.
Watching this video a year after it was made. Priceless! Scary eyes, temperatures that even cause me to shiver down here in Florida. I noticed the breath outside the tent and none inside the tent, proof of the tents function. Thanks Steve.
Great footage, editing and commentary, Steve. Good move on keeping distance between you and the moose, as like all wild animals they can be unpredictable. While moose are not the brightest lights on the block when it comes to ungulates, that cow and calf are smart to spend some time in the campground during rifle hunting season. Thank you for sharing.
I don’t know how I got here because I was watching abandoned mansions but I’m glad I’m here. I must say I went camping once many years ago and absolutely hated it and never did it again. But watching you camp you make it look really pleasurable. Mind you, you do have an absolutely beautiful country to do plenty of camping, with amazing wild life to see. I live in the UK and camping here means going to camping sites with hundreds of other campers with very little or nothing to do or see it’s very boring. You are a very nice person and funny and I’m just off to watch some of your other videos. Anyway happy camping be safe.

Best $30 tent you can get! I have the same one. Works in colder temps. I put a tarp over it to keep in the heat. Some inclosed tealight candles inside the tent will get rid of the moisture. Always keep a bit of ventilation.
@@nommerOfChickens I have a slightly older version of this tent that I bought near-new for $6 at a thrift store (I'd pay $25 for it happily if I didn't want something more packable), it's been going for 3 years solid now with no problems or leaks in light rain (I seam sealed it).
Thanks Miles! It is sad that camping is turning into a wealthy mans luxury, but I’ll keep finding ways for the rest of us to get out there. Cheers!
I grew up in suburban NYC and my most fond childhood memories are camping with my dad and my uncles upstate NY. I learned more valuable lessons there than I ever leaned in school. My dad is an amazing cook. We had some awesome campfire meals.
"i'm taking back camping for the people". i love that idea, lol. great message!
Thanks!
Just found your channel not too long ago. I love camping but haven't gotten a chance to go in about 5 years since my elderly mother started needing constant close care. I feel like I get to experience it through your videos though. Thank you for that. I like everything about your videos. Don't change anything please. From watching you set camp to cooking, it's all great and very relaxing. Great job.
Man that takes me back to my teenage years in Nova Scotia. Camping in the middle of a blizzard in a Summer tent and cheap sleeping bag. Warm clothing is the key. Especially a warm hat and socks and some black rum. Thanks for the cool videos Steve.
I always bring the wax fire logs from Loblaws. Really cheap and start with a match. One log burns for three hours. I always mix them with wood. Great if its raining or wet wood. Great video
Me and my wife discovered Steve a couple days ago and we've been watching nothing else since
How good is he eh dam awesome
Agree 100%. I only watch Steve and the man/wife team from North Carolina….(TOGR) 👋🏼👋🏼from Fla.
Steve you got me saving all the fifty five gallon drums at work now, going to make my own floating camping barge, thanks for the idea
Blake Hurst Store water too.
I appreciate your adventures and admire your dedication to beer and camping. Strictly hardcore!
I love how a couple of degrees difference is considered a deal when you can see your breath. You inspire me dude!
I just like, love you and your videos man. I wish I could go camping with Steve
I love how you give a detailed overview in the morning about the experience. Love you Steve keep up the good work, you're a beast.
SAVAGE STEVE.......Hunkering Down!!!!!!!
This video feels like beginning of a Found Footage horror movie.
You just completely changed my view of this video.. wtf 😂.
🤣🥶
So true haha
Three degrees warmer and Steve would of been in a tank top and shorts
lol...yes
Haha, my ideal daytime high is about 60F, 15C.. I unfortunately only get 4 weeks a year in that zone. The rest of the year is too hot or too cold.
Your voice is like the Bob Ross of stealth camping. if you don't know who he is we could probably do just please look up a RUclips video of Bob Ross The Joy of painting and will understand thank you sir
@@campingwithsteve Same. And most 15c days here are rainy ... sigh
@@campingwithsteve kno watchya mean...thas why I love it here....Its mostly temperate....I have a scratchy wool army blanket , that goes on 3rd...plus a mini hair dryer , that works very well for instant heat....Rock onnn Brother , havva great weekend
"keep a small fire"
Steve throws half a rick in there 😂 another great video Steve 👍👍
Wow!!!! Stunning scenery. Thank you Steve for giving me so much calm ,year after year. There are so many days ,that you are the difference in my day.
Cheers and Thank You
Honestly who would dislike this video? Keep em coming can’t get enough
city folk
holdmybeer Yuppies nowadays smh
Love it just a simple overnighter. Allot of the County campgrounds here lock the gate but some list that winter camping is okay; just don't want you to drive in so you have to park at the gate. Since its really only one crazy guy like me not much worry on parking. Just sucks to have to ask always stresses me out that the person you talk to may not be the guy that calls to get your car towed.
Nothing i like more than cracking a beer myself and watching you hunker down.
Thanks!
Those eyes glowing in the woods - gave me chills.
Every year Steve is one of the few to experience two thanksgivings, one in October, then one the very next month. Happy eating Steve....and Winter camping.
Your videos are super relaxing to watch. Keep up the good work Steve!
Thanks!
No matter how many years expierence one has with camping seeing glowing eyes just outside the light of a campsite does not make sleeping in a tent feel secure. Lol
a cryptid lol!
@@_MrBread I have an uncle who lives in Alaska and his armed car was attacked by a moose , it did so much damage he just totaled it out .
I love the cheap 3 man tents if you toss a tarp over them thay hold a lot of heat not realy shore h o w safe it is but iv done it
Bro I love the cooking and when you get into your sleeping bag. Because that is one of my favorite times and parts about camping getting into a good warm sleeping bag for the night. Nothing better.
Beautiful photography in a beautiful spot. Wow. Those who don't do winter camping are missing out, and that's a good thing for those who do.
Even here in the Mojave desert of California I use a -15F /-26C rated bag in the winter. Temperatures only ever drop to sometimes 17F / -8C. Cold by our standards, but having that bag and a down Parka make a world of difference! I use my summer camping gear for everything else.
When starting a fire "just follow the instructions on the log"
I was relieved there was a background shooter. The ambience of potential danger or discovery is the essence of camping with Steve.
It isn't a camping with steve unless there is some constant looming threat of danger.
“It’s minus 3 degrees so, not too cold out”. One way to know you’re listening to a Canadian
Pretty sure he meant -3° Celsius which is about 26° Fahrenheit :)
I lived in North Dakota and it got -60 once. It’s terrible
-60 degrees Fahrenheit.
@@balindeaver8154 wow that's crazy! Where I'm from the coldest temperature I've seen is about -25 Fahrenheit(not including wind chill)
@@balindeaver8154 damn that rlly rlly cold
Hey Steve! You rock my Thursday nights. UK fan here having a beer and watching stuff then gonna hunker down. It's only +5c tonight so not too bad.
Cheers!
Hi, Steve. I'm not a big camper, but I find your vids relaxing and amusing. Thank you for the uploads!
I do a very similar Thanksgiving on the trail meal, chicken pouches, stove top, gravy powder package, dried cranberries, corn, and instant mashed potatoes. It's heavy, and bulky but a huge moral boost while backpacking. Keep it up man, I love your outings.
Just recently arrived here on the channel :), now I've watched so many videos that I read "Steve's Soup" on the red box of that soup lol! Wouldn't be surprised though, to see an actual soup recipe created by Steve and sold..to be enjoyed with step twos! Cheers from Europe!
What campgrounds? I born and raised in Darke County Ohio....always looking for new interesting campsites/grounds..
@@adaydreamersfestielife it’s called AEP there are like 4-5 different types of campgrounds with multiple sites to pick from and it’s completely free. It’s nice they have different ponds to fish and the one has a huge playground for kids to play at and at Campground A they have two huge ponds for kids 16 and under to fish in and if they catch a tagged fish they can call a number and they can win prizes for those fish! I would give give directions but the last time I gave directions to their I got my oldest daughter lost lol but if you use Apple Maps or Google type in big Muskie bucket and it’ll take you to it and past the campgrounds!!
Thank you🥰
@@adaydreamersfestielife your welcome! I hope you can go try it out and hopefully you’ll enjoy it, I know my family and I do every summer!
@@prettyparanormalcassiekayb5498If everything is free, who pays for it?
Love the meal deal. Totally agree with access to all for the outdoors, I have a summer kit and use it all year round. UK based lowest temp -6 C. Love your videos, please keep it up.
Always appreciate watching your step two and dinner ideas!
“Temperature here is -3 degrees, it’s not too too cold”
Ha yeah right as a guy born and raised in Florida that right there sir..... is death!
He was saying it was -3 Celsius. That isn’t bad at all.
(-3°C × 9/5) + 32 = 26.6°F
Now you know the formula to convert Celcius to Fahrenheit. (__°C × 9/5) + 32 = __°F
To convert Fahrenheit to Celcius the formula is (__°F - 32) × 5/9 = __°C
So (26.6°F - 32) × 5/9 = -3°C
At least he doesn't have to worry about ticks, skeeters and Burmese pythons!
Out of what i've seen of your work (in no particular order). This makes the top 5. Very enjoyable content as always. Thanks Steve.
Love going back & watching the old vids..take care everyone.. love step 2
Back in the 70's camping with my Dad, he would bring along an aerasol can of hair spray called "Final Net" and upon packing and leaving he'd spray the mantels. Worked every time and prevented damage, burns off on relight, used the same one's for years...
Tejano Joe - That’s so smart. Great tip!
Got the same tent. Great for winter overnighters. Put a tarp over it to keep the heat in.
Hello from North Carolina. We love you Steve!
Cheers from Alberta!
Binge watching a lot of your videos lately, Mr. Steve. Must be missing my old “stealth camping in a hammock” days. 😂
Anyways, love what you do.
That moose sighting was insane! Glad you're safe!
I had to back the video up twice and had heard it on another video but didn't get it. "Peaches and Cream Corn", once again Steve proves he is the best survivalist/comedian in Canada.
What no breakfast burrito!! Great video brother enjoyed can't wait for the next one
23:00 just an idea I use it for my butane cookstove. Take two of the hand warmers and set them below the tank, this will keep the butane in the state it should be. :)
I thoroughly enjoy your videos Steve makes me think back to when my family used to go camping a couple times a year. I honestly hated sleeping on the ground but your setup makes me want to utilize the 80 acres of land I have in Northern Pennsylvania. Thanks for the videos I enjoy your work!!
These videos give me such joy. I don’t even like camping much but this feels so...welcoming.
Just now found this on the list of your videos. This is by far my favorite so far. The way that you filmed this showing the beach in the sunset and the animals this is the format you should go with.
"This is literally the worst tent you can buy"
*looks at my main 2-man tent and notices it's exactly the same.
It'd be neat to see a video about what makes a tent good or bad. I've used it and it's fine for all I've done; nice and waterproof and might vaguely keep in the heat.
Lmao, same. Watching him set up my tent. It's a solid tent, used it 20 plus times and no issues whatsoever
@@scottwall8419 May I ask what tent it is? I can't see what it says, but it looks like it has an Ozark Trail logo on it.
@@nommerOfChickens that's correct, Ozark with the blue rain cover and side compartment so you can keep your shoes out of the rain, it's just as he said, the $25 dollar tent at Walmart. Not sure if it's still available as I bought it 6 months ago, did alot of camping this summer though. I treat my gear pretty good so even cheap stuff lasts me a while.
It's bulky for its size and heavy, but it did the job nicely for 3.5 seasons in Canada (no/low snowfall winter really is usable but drafty if there's wind)
