@@thatlarryguy6841 Think about the deserts. They go from extreme heat in the day to extreme cold at night! If you get caught unprepared, the elements can kill you. I've gotten sudden chills that had me laid up from cool air wafting across a body of water at night when coming out of a warm enclosure.
Tip for Steve to stay warm: Instead of tossing out the cooking water put hot water into your empty water bottles and they do a great job keeping your feet warm in the sleeping bag. I've been out in the cold many nights and it made a huge difference instead of buying hand warmers etc. You can use plastic bags also if you need to.

Thank you, Steve. I've been camping for decades, recently started looking at tarp tent configurations. Yours is very similar to what I've been trying, but is much easier and has a little more space. Thanks again for all the great videos.
I wish he would have spotted and talked to that person in the woods. There had to be a story. Who sleeps outside in Canada....in the winter.... Other than Steve.
There's something so mentally soothing and relaxing about watching these videos. Maybe it's that whole communion-with-mother-nature thing that puts me in a tranquil state of mind. Either way, keep doing what you do Steve!
In Edmonton, there used to be a stealth camp spot where quite a few people were set up. A family, a couple, and a few individuals lived there and used the bus to go to work. There was a little pond, a field and forest. Now, it's a shopping centre with a Cabella's.
I've recently discovered Steve's videos and am now binge watching his camping adventures. What, to me, seem to be some fairly miserable camping expeditions due to weather, location etc are brought to life by his enthusiasm. I'm tempted to try wild camping myself now after only ever using normal campsites previously.

When I think about how cold and snowy the northern US gets, it's interesting to think there's an entire country where the southernmost border is still farther north than the most northern part of the continental US. I enjoy these stealth videos. They're the ones I watch most on the channel.
i learned recently that there are parts of canada near toronto and south that are actually further south in latitude than some areas of utah, nevada, and oregon. doesnt make sense till you look at a map!

That big as jelly candle is a complete fire hazard. A high end sleeping bag and wool clothes are the way to go. That thin looking tarp is a thin protective cover for the elements. But does the job. Nice job Steve
I had just sat down to eat when I saw this video on my feed, so I was ready for "eating with Steve." -11 Celsius is about 12 degrees Fahrenheit. For those of you who live in warm climates and have never really been out in the bitter cold, 12 degrees Fahrenheit isn't freezing, it's 20 degrees below freezing. You can feel the difference.
"the cover of darkness" I'll date myself, I'm reminded of an old Garfield cartoon : Garfield is headed to bed, flips off the light switch, dives under the blanket on his cat bed before the light goes out and proclaims "Faster.... than the speed of dark ! " love it.

"Oh man, what have I done? What have I done....." That omelette part had me about crying laughing! I've been getting the "Hunker down" fever lately, I'm at least in a little warmer climate since I'm in the middle of Illinois so we'll see what I can scrounge up to get my fix
I've always loved this channel...I've been a sub for years. Steve you are the real deal...no phony bs. I'm in Florida with my A/C on but I felt like I was there with you. Thanks for another great video buddy
Hey Steve, I love your channel. I was wondering if this winter you'd be willing to revisit this triangular tarp setup, but with a layer of pine boughs and snow packed on top for extra insulation? You're very brave to be camping outside in the winter, but it's wise to put a little extra effort into building a cozy shelter. Plus, you get the bonus of your tent looking like a pile of brush and debris for that extra level of stealthiness. Bring crazy neighbor along too, if he's willing, and make it multi-day outing perhaps?
For additional warmth, I like using the larger sized refillable hand warmers. One fill lasts the whole night. Depending on the fuel used, they can be a bit smelly, but won't burn off all the oxygen in the tent. You can even use them in a sleeping bag.
Steve: ok honey I'm heading out camping now. Beautiful wife: you didn't take the shower curtain liner for a tarp did you? Steve: Err.. Maybe? Great video.
hey john CN here love your comments her tarp for the shower was used on the camping raft if you have watched all the videos you will recognize it (not her the tarp)
Cold weather camping tips: Use an appropriately rated sleeping bag (down insulation is warmest) with a liner. Double up on sleeping pads, the ground is cold. Get a foam pad to put under your Thermarest. Wear a dry baselayer and wool socks in bed, wear a toque too. Bring gloves. Boil a liter of water and fill a Nalgene, tuck that in your sleeping bag. In between legs or at your feet is best. Eat protein before bedtime, have a hot cup of tea too.
I have found eating a snickers at bedtime helps with the cold. And having a pee bottle handy so you don't have to get all the way out of the sleeping bag. My old age and love of coffee with supper has me peeing 2-3 times a night.
A good sleeping bag makes a huge difference!!! I can sleep outside up to about -20 farenheit comfortably. It says you can sleep comfortably up to -50. I'm not trying to find that out. Thank God here in ohio it doesn't get that cold!

Greetings from a couple hours South, Steve! For staying warm, I put a sleeping bag in a sleeping bag. My inner bag is a $39.99 Mountain Warehouse Summit 250XL (3 season bag) from Amazon (or a Mountain Warehouse store if you visit the W.Edmonton Mall). My outer bag is a $39.99 Mountain Warehouse Traveler 50 XL (a summer bag, I got it on sale for $24.99 from Amazon as well). These bags are inexpensive, huge and I'm sure your Canadian Tire bag will fit in either of them, Steve. You'll be good to -30 or cooler that way. I've done -30 quite warmly in my two bags with a good wind blowing. They're not super-light ... the 250XL is 4.5lbs and the Traveler 50XL is 2lbs. But doing -30 in comfort for 6.5lbs and $80 can't be beat ... Well, at least It works for me, anyway.

Back in the 90s when I was in the military, I traded a piece of field gear for a couple of British mre's. They contained lamb stew, half pints of Boddington's pub ale and 2 cigarettes. I've never seen these type again
That sounds like a perfect mre
In California we have them equipped with clean syringes ... condoms ... and a state provided cell phone.
Steve, bring a fleece or a wool blanket to line your sleeping bag with when its super cold, should help you retain some heat a little better when tarp camping like that, great vid bro, glad to see you're still up to the shenanigans and bending the rules so to speak
I still think this is all just an incredibly clever viral marketing campaign for Canadian Tire.
I got those vibes as well. Need to look at all his vids and keep track, bet he says "canadian tire" in every video.
If it isn't, it should be.
A brilliant assessment!! You might be right. 🇨🇦
Not at all, Steve tells it like it is.
You are obviously new to this.
The thing is... I can relate. At one time or another, I've been under the bridge, in the bushes, the car, and in a tent in the woods.
Say Steve, when's the urban stealth in an overflow shelter getting filmed?
🤣🤣
Great video Steve, love that you don't pretend to be a " bushcrafter" and you're learning as you go, brilliant mate!
And to see him now, a year later! Its absolutely wonderful! 🥰

Love you videos, Steve. I'm to old (73) to do what you do, but really enjoy "living thru you!"
The thought of you having to pee in the middle of the night makes me shiver. God bless you brother.
dig your videos!!! i like how your gear is real and not overly expenxive, and the genuine fun you seem to have from doing these campouts... i was homeless for awhile, your videos brings backs memories of the happy and sad times.. cheers from albuquerque New mexico :)
"I understand what they're getting at but unfortunately I like camping so. That's what's gonna happen." LOL

That’s a funny line, but it’s also kind of line of sociopath might use. 🪓
@@JohnnyArtPavlou You don't have to be a sociopath to break rules...

Just found your channel. I appreciate your sensitivity to the homeless. Also, this helps some much to get through a recent death of a loved one. Not to mention the stress over the “new normal” from the pandemic. You living your best, helps my soul.
Was anybody else worried that Steve might accidentally burn the corner of his emergency bivy with the gel fuel can?! 6:30 Love your content Steve! Shout out from Eastern Iowa!
Nope, not at all. Have a little faith in Steve!
Happy Easter
I was riveted to that burning gel 😳😊.
I was just thinking that

CAF member here, I love how you incorporated the IMP, others beg to disagree but I love most IMP's
Cozy camping. It beat camping in the three digits heat where I live. I'm proud of you Steve. We're with you👍
I love this episode of The Long Dark.
As someone who was homeless as a kid it is a nerve racking experience to stealth camp, especially hiding from criminals as well police. I was stabbed by a mugger and my family was harassed by cops many times. But yeah, it is kinda funny too.
2 homeless guys died in my city because of the freezing weather, be careful Steve love your videos
A few years back my cousin died from the cold sleeping in a doorway. In Panama City Florida. Drinking when it's real cold, and you don't have the right gear is dangerous, no matter where you are.
@@thatlarryguy6841 I'm sorry for your loss i hope he's at peace
Did they try thawing them out?
@@thatlarryguy6841 Think about the deserts. They go from extreme heat in the day to extreme cold at night! If you get caught unprepared, the elements can kill you. I've gotten sudden chills that had me laid up from cool air wafting across a body of water at night when coming out of a warm enclosure.
@@tenhirankei lmao... Stfu
This episode turned unexpectedly into one like my other favorite Steve youtuber. You need to put that all out onto a tray, Nice!
Every time I’m having a bad day.... I start to watch you camping in different places and it makes me smile seeing you do it...

Thank you, Steve. I've been camping for decades, recently started looking at tarp tent configurations. Yours is very similar to what I've been trying, but is much easier and has a little more space. Thanks again for all the great videos.

There's something so mentally soothing and relaxing about watching these videos. Maybe it's that whole communion-with-mother-nature thing that puts me in a tranquil state of mind. Either way, keep doing what you do Steve!
Hey Steve, I'm so appreciative of your channel. This info is very helpful considering the current state of the world. Keep on keeping on.
"I'm gonna slither into that valley over there", lol...
I'm starting to wonder who's the crazy neighbor here? : D
Seriously. Does Crazy Neighbor have a channel? I'd love to see how that Mad Lad earns his nickname
Bert Kelly HA HA HA! I was thinking the same exact thing!

Actually there are 27 US states that are farther north than the southern most part of Canada. blogs.sas.com/content/sastraining/2017/08/10/us-states-north-of-canada/
I live in the southern most part of Canada. Detroit is north of us, and we are at the same latitude as California. Kind of crazy.
When I was in boy scouts in northwest missouri, close to Kansas city Missouri, we went camping in -10 degree, for our polar bear badge, boy it was cold.
Katherine Langford Less of a hat, and more of a conjoined twin. Huh.
Another really inspiring vid. Cheers Steve, the UK doesn't have these challenging temperatures, but it's great to see you conquering the elements with such apoerent ease! I LOVE your channel - thank you!!
That big as jelly candle is a complete fire hazard. A high end sleeping bag and wool clothes are the way to go. That thin looking tarp is a thin protective cover for the elements. But does the job. Nice job Steve
Wholesome & awesome channel bro. Just got recommended your vids this week and now I’m addicted. Thanks
Straight up all the content is good. Got tired of all this overly edited and acted out stuff so its Steve and Nicholas Green Outdoors for me
I had just sat down to eat when I saw this video on my feed, so I was ready for "eating with Steve." -11 Celsius is about 12 degrees Fahrenheit.
" love it.
Haha...Steve says "no mushrooms next time, oh man what have I done.." ...Too funny Steve! :)
Steve: I have seen a few of your vids, cool. Will watch more. I did that in the mid 70's to 90's in my little red pu with a camper shell and quick up tent...called my outings "A Lost Weekend". "Oh man, what have I done? What have I done....." That omelette part had me about crying laughing!
I've been getting the "Hunker down" fever lately, I'm at least in a little warmer climate since I'm in the middle of Illinois so we'll see what I can scrounge up to get my fix

Hey Steve, when my seven year old and I sleep in our van, we put blankets on us in layers when we hunker down.
Creepy
@@gearjunkie3412 camping.. ur mind is the creepy thing
I really like this kind of gritty, real, stealth camping with as minimal gear as possible. Good stuff. This video made me grab some beer as well.
Up early with the dogs...so I'm hunkered down under a blanket, watching your vids. Cheers
John, you have made this possible.

hey john CN here love your comments her tarp for the shower was used on the camping raft if you have watched all the videos you will recognize it (not her the tarp)

Cold weather camping tips:
Use an appropriately rated sleeping bag (down insulation is warmest) with a liner.
Man, more and more Steve is my internet pallet cleanser. Keep it classy Steve!
