Happy Thanksgiving all my U.S. friends!
I finally got out of the city and drove up a mountain to do some winter weather car camping. A tarp over the tailgate of the SUV was all I needed to form a really nice shelter for the night. It was one of the most comfortable camping situations I've done to date.

I'm from sunny South Florida where anything below 60°F is get out your parka weather. 😆 Thanks for showing us all the different kinds of camping for those times that we leave our little corner of paradise.

True story. I was driving on Cross-Canada route 48 when my car broke down out in the middle of nowhere. No food, no water, no phone, nothing... I started to walk the 90 miles back to the nearest city, dead of winter, about -30C, when I came upon some dude camping on a lark, recording himself for a youtube upload! It was Steve! He helped me out of a tight spot he did. Love you man! Camp on!

Well, today I test fit myself in the back of her Equinox, this is gonna happen now. It’s small, but easily doable. She not amused with my sudden interest in her ride. I can’t believe I never thought of it.
My Honda Pilot was used for stealthy and not so stealthy camping plenty of times. Before my sons were teenagers we all fit in it nicely. Now they're too tall (and stinky) to share the car camping with mom.

Legendary. Here I am pondering where to tether my tarp at the rear of my car and thinking about ropes and hooks into the wheel, and then I watch you just casually tether it by shutting the rear door on it. So often the simplest solutions evade our minds.

Hi Luna. All the cell phones were out due due to very strong interference from the aurora borealis, or so the authorities later said. What can you believe anymore? I didn't want to starve, waiting in my car for rescue, so hiked to civilization. Or, at least civilization as we know it. Hot water, electricity, pre-packaged food. It was a cold, bitter hike, low marks on the fun scale, but then I ran into Steve! He's a good dude, a life saver. First bump emoji.

I have a first gen Honda CRV (1999) it's designed with camping in mind the seats fold completely flat basically turns into a full size bed. Even comes with a stock picnic table that folds up and fits underneath the rear storage area. Pretty awesome stuff. Can't wait to try this set up with the tarp

I just got a Subaru Crosstrek, this has me thinking I might need to go out on a winter camping trip soon. For one, I own several tarps. And two, I really need to test out the AWD capability. 🤠

@@Rylo5 He's got a lot going on in his life lately and still has a full time job, or did until just recently. He's keeping the channel interesting by camping in unusual set ups that your average person could do to get some fresh air and see some new sights. And anyway it isn't even really about the camping on this channel, it's about hanging out with Steve. If you want a bush-crafting channel with long form videos there are several dudes on RUclips with two hour videos of them hiking out alone with a backpack into the wilderness to eat oatmeal and pine cone tea for days on end...

That makes me sad to read. I was that way too. I’ve been sober from cannabis for about two years now. It’s hard to explain to people who currently smoke how damaging it can be when doing it persistently, or even just using it to sleep. I hope you can get passed it…if you haven’t already. @@freeman7079 thanks fam all good, its nothing bad, my worst symptom of withdrawal is just some twisting and turning before i fall asleep with some extra heat and sweat for a night. Nothing steve wallis and a open window cant take care off

I had an old 4 man tent (7' x 7' maybe), that had broken poles. I bought a replacement tent and was just going to toss the old one but then I had an idea. I decided to cut the bottom bathtub out of the tent, cutting it right beneath the seam. I then threw the tent over the rear hatch of my car, a Mazda 9-3, and secured it on the top to my roof rack bars, then attached the bottom to parts of the undercarriage. It worked great! I could position the tent door right at the back of the car, so I could get in and out through the tents door. It seals very nicely around the vehicle and provides the bug netting for air flow and insect control. If it were to rain, I could throw the rain fly on but if its left off, you get great visibility and air flow. It's better than a tarp.

I have an older chevy suburban with the 3rd row seats removed. When I take it camping I set up a small tent and store all my gear in that while i sleep on a full sized futon mattress in my suv. Super comfy, safe from bears/snakes/etc. and Plenty of room for me and my dogs. I am getting to old to sleep on the ground nowadays...

For sure! I wasn't ever expecting to see something like that in my lifetime, let alone in a camping with Steve. I might now have seen it all.... And then he released a camping in a body bag video. Love this channel.
To store your tarps, always decide how you want to roll them up and then take a spray paint can and hit the corners with that color so you know which two corners to start folding before you roll and at the very end when it’s all rolled up place a zip tie With a permanent tag for the size of the tarp so you never have to guess which one is the 15 x 30

I am not either but it's nice going around different states in either a pop up camper or RV to new places to see. I have a couple upcoming trips at nice state and national parks in America and Canada that provides electric , showers, bathrooms all the recreational things and with tables, stove beds on the inside, it really is not all that bad. But I won't go off grid until my new 1200 solar panel system with 16 hour battery bank is installed in the months to come. We use it to escape Hurricanes more so these days then actual camping though.

So, we're having a snow storm since yesterday, continues until tomorrow... anyway, tonight I was shoveling and while the snow crunched under me, I thought about you camping and I said people camp in this weather.. and, I then thought.. Re. the tracks: Look at the toes. Cats retract their claws and dogs can’t. So, if there are visible claw imprints, canine. If no visible claw imprints, feline.

Hey steve that track was definitely a cat track of sorts also the reason you see animals at lower elevation this time of year is because the elk deer etc move off the mountains into the lower valleys during the winter months. Love the videos brother , Fellow Albertan

I had a wonderful system for tarp camping out of the back of my old Volvo Cross Country Station wagon for the entirety of my undergrad years. I kayaked a lot and camped by the rivers I floated. Most kayak rental places would also have a riverside campground. I had mud tires on that car which got a lot of sideways looks, and a Thule roof rack that would hold my kayak, and on those weekends where I'd rent a boat instead of brining my own, a Thule car topper cargo box. I had 10 powerful neodymium magnets I used with a 20x12 tarp that attached to my roof rack with lumber clamps and the sides of the car with the magnets. The raised rear hatch was aluminum so the magnets didn't work on it, but that was OK. The fold flat seats gave me an outstanding place to sleep.
