Not are problem that they designed their game on a crap game engine. There are plenty of well made game engines on the market for a price. time and effort vs money well spent....the trade offs of having custom made software aren't that great if stuff breaks constantly.
@@ErLeuchten It's one of the best on the market, but Bungie themselves lament it because it's a rickety piece of crap from being forced to do things it was never made for, and apparently takes longer to update than Ark Survival.

Lore doesn't mean anything if your gameplay doesn't revolve around it, imagine you play a FPS about vietnam war, but instead of playing as a soldier that fought in the war, you play as a 12 year old child that hears his vet grandpa ranting about vietnam every evening

Shadowkeep's campaign content relies heavily on nostalgia and fanservice; the whole concept of "Nightmares" is just another way to spin up old content bosses, like Crota, Ghaul, Fanatic, etc. I assume they expected fans to react to it in, say, the way Star Wars fans (initially) reacted to The Force Awakens -- lots of nostalgic imagery, bringing back good memories, while exploring something new.
But it doesn't work. It doesn't work, because Destiny as a game is based on replaying old content. It would have meant more to see Crota in Shadowkeep, if we hadn't blown him up 4000 times when we were all doing Dark Below for the array of raid gear. It would have meant more to see Ghaul, if he wasn't an ultimately boring boss fight that we already did quite a few times for the first Solstice event in D2. It would have meant more to see the Fanatic if we didn't fight him regularly in our current strike playlist, groaning once the strike started, because we dreaded IMMUNE IMMUNE IMMUNE.

Djimon Honsou also says this line in the movie "Push" starring Chris Evan's and Dakota Fanning at the veitnamese restaurant scene when Chris attempts to assassinate Djimon with his psychic powers. "Push" was a totally forgettable commercial flop to people who weren't easily impressed like I was. The movie came after "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer" and was subsequently the last failed attempt at a hero movie Chris was willing to accept. The final straw, would be Captain America. The rest is history...

No, this is where he was in The Taken King, pretty high praise for a lot of aspects, then a game and 5 dlcs later it's gone from awful to ok again. The same thing could happen in Destiny 3, awful with 3 bad DLCs and then an ok one

Destiny is like a drug. Most people will pick it up, say “eh that’s cool”, then put it down and maybe pick it up again every few months. Then you have the people who will pick it up, become addicted, and sink thousands of hours and hundreds of dollars into it almost against their will.
Im just stuck in the lore, so i know how ihe feels because he does not know any of it, its all in the lore or almost everything, the only problem I have is that the lore should be in the game somehow, people should not have to read it.

When you stop playing a looter shooter like this, you suddenly realize what a fool you've been wasting all that time on it.
I feel the same way about looter shooters as I do superheroes - the story never ends, anything previously experienced can be retconned at any time, and ultimately there is no closure.
But Destiny IS going to have an end, at least for this story.

Destiny's story always makes me think of that old writting advice: "Is this the most interesting period in our characters lives? if not, then why aren't you showing us that?". Basically sums up the whole thing for me.

Also, don't forget "in medias res" -- starting in the middle. So, essentially... start in the middle of the most interesting parts of characs' lives. Had to justify something so bold, yet so controversial.

@MageBurger I respectfully disagree, I don't think interesting necessarily means action packed. For example Game of Thrones starts at the most interesting period of every character life but at a relatively not very action pact moment also. Its only later the action picks up more. Thanks for your input.

Buick Debaron gotta disagree with your perception of Destiny’s DLC. Sure its not amazing this year but its still a hell of alot of fun and more worth playing than most of the releases this year. I’ll take Destiny over Anthem, Fallout 76, Pokemon, FIFA, or The Outer Worlds any day.
Buick Debaron ah ok i see. I get that alot of people dont like Destiny. Most of the arguments i hear sound like someone who hasnt played since launch or Curse of Osiris or who didnt play seriously enough to enjoy the content on offer. Shadowkeep was disappointing but still great. Destiny is flawed but still one of the best games out there.
I love IHE. I love Destiny. I disagree with IHE and feel like he’s going into it wanting to hate it, but i still enjoy his commentary even if i think he’s wrong

I used to love Destiny, but I don’t have the money nor time nor want to fall into their consumer-unfriendly practices. They’ve become extraordinarily good at giving you everything while giving you nothing
And taking away that little bit of stuff that they gave you.
Looking back, there was a time in Destiny 2 where the game was the best it ever was - and that was during the final season of Shadowkeep, Season of Arrivals. We had the Red War, Curse of Osiris, Warmind, Forsaken, and Shadowkeep Campaigns. We had Forges, Gambit Prime, Menagerie, and all the seasons in Shadowkeep. We also had no sunsetting (yet). We had no content-vaulting... except the seasons expired. We had 9 destinations. We had all 6 Gambit maps. We had the most number of PvP maps we had. Armor 2.0 was a welcome addition to the game. New Light was good back then. We had like 16-17 strikes. We still had cool missions like The Whisper, and Zero Hour. We had nightmare hunts and lots of collectibles on Luna and in the Dreaming City. You still had all the exotic weapon quests from the first 3 years. Finally, Shadowkeep, Season of the Worthy and Season of Arrivals was my favorite story - the Pyramids were finally here! The possibilities were endless.
I guess what I am trying to say - we had more "stuff" to do than at any other time in Destiny. Every expansion since then has only scaled the game back just as much as it added. At the end of Shadowkeep/Season of Arrivals we essentially lost "half"... maybe 40% is more accurate... of the game. It never get any bigger. It has oscillated in size but was never as big as it was then.

My problem I have with destiny is if you actually look into the lore it’s actually pretty good but where the hell is that story telling for the main game it feels like the lore writers and the base game writers don’t even talk to each other
Most of the lore cant be translated into the game, that's why.
I mean they have opened up a little but with the whole certain quests having cut scenes thing as well as the darkness being linked to the raid, but yeah I am so damn tired of hearing “there is a new enemy on its way and we’re the only ones left to fight it”

@@rightupmyalley617 Hive are trying to revive Oryx......how is it impossible to put that into the game? Hell, the story could've been around that, with the Hive taking energy from the pyramid to try and do so. The reveal of the pyramid could've worked as a climax, where Scarlet Keep would've been used more for story purposes.
@@LuniNightwind It's impossible to put into the game because this isn't a JRPG. They don't do cutscenes that are completely unrelated to the PC. Plus, for the Oryx thing, iirc not a single part of that has actually been done physically yet. Automatically assuming that it has been done already would suggest that Oryx is either revived or permanently dead, but we don't know. And we can't know because it's a good idea to assume that it would become very clear which is the case no matter what happens.

Truthfully, the Moth people were the initial concept of the Hive, and still are to a degree. The Hive are just a more human-like moth who've been twisted by the worms and lost all of their fur and whatnot. Many still have their wings, as is dictated by the lore and some armour pieces.

Actually the way he describes it in the conclusions really puts it nice. We are effectively paying to beta-test Destiny for Bungie. Instead of the old way where Beta Testers were invited freely OR god forbid actually professionals and even got PAID for their service.
It's been almost 2 years. I'm ready for a new IHE Destiny video, especially since sunsetting and content vaulting are things now.

KnoxTheBox bro. Calm down. The game is far from dead, and Beyond Light is bringing a whole host of new content, while refreshing whatever was considered boring. It’s still entirely possible to solo bosses and Sparrow Racing will likely come back in the next DLC. Activision was the driving force behind why the game is now boring, not Bungie

The artstyle, lore and gunplay somehow keep me playing every now and then although its an exceptionally mindnumbing game

Honestly some of my best experiences in destiny has just been playing with friends and grinding for gear. I could give less of a shit about the lore although I do watch a byf video from time to time. Interacting with a community and meeting so many people over the last 6 years has made this game what it is for me. In an interview they asked a bungie dev what's the best platform to play D2 on and he replied "Where your friends are". That statement definitely holds true and it's probably why lots of my relationships include destiny. This game has allowed me to meet many kind and wonderful people and that's probably why I'm still coughing up 40 bucks everytime bungie releases content. I'm truly thankful to the community for this half a decade of fun.
I cant wait for his beyond light review, wonder what his take of them vaulting over 1/3rd of the strikes and raids will be.
alex sounds thoroughly broken in this video. There's not even a single hint of joy or excitement in his voice. There's not even any manic exasperation like in his first destiny vid.

I think that's just how he talks honestly, although it wouldn't surprise me if this is the last video he makes about this game. Destiny seems like such a tired franchise at this point, the constant drip feeding content isn't really doing this game any favours in the long term it seems. It's just so repetitive and underwhelming, especially if you play alone like I used too. I'm glad I stopped playing this game in October. Now I have time to play good games like Call of Duty Modern Warfare... oh...

As a hardcore fan of this series and someone who is very into the lore, you are absolutely right in all of your assessments. I still love the game though.
I was a pretty hardcore fan untill shadowkeep. It ruined the game imo. I'm not a fan of the new armor system. It seems unnecessarily complicated. The weapon "balances" made primaries I Like weaker and garbage fusions stronger. The battle pass was a horrible addition. The new UI is horrible too. They tried to re-invent the game and it failed.

I'm heavily inclined to disagree. His views on the game are dated, irrelevant, and they outright ignore other activities. Did he even play the Garden of Salvation Raid? Did he play any of the other Raids? What about the Pit of Heresy Dungeon? Or the Shattered Throne? Hell, does he even know Trials is back? I'm sick of this guy. Not only does he REALLY hate everything, he has shit excuses for hating them too! No wonder I unsubscribed!

He also brings up the overused character models. You also think he or anybody that plays casually to enjoy the experience, will actually check everything out when he wants to see what's being shown by the devs as a first mission and first cut scenes for said dlc. He also brings up the terrible ending which happens to always be a cliffhanger, do we also need to talk about the big nosed man asking for your shekels to get the cool new colors for the character nobody else you play with cares about? Just wanna mention this: When you buy the *season* pass, you don't get only the battle pass, you get the seasonal content. You can look at it as a good or a bad thing.
if you don't have shadowkeep buying season pass only gets you the season pass no seasonal content
Coolbisiy buying a season (which is $10) includes all the premium content for the whole 3 month time AND the battle pass, they are not sold individually

If you mean some sort of eververse purchase then that is not the season pass. And if I don’t realize that the season pass can be bought separately then the season pass is still acquirable by simply buying the season for $10

Galen with how things have been going I’m honestly slowly losing hope for Bungie to be the company they used to be. They had ample opportunity to give us something but Destiny still feels very half-ass’d and it’s annoying me. I don’t want to have all the story to be told through stupid cards, if I wanted to do that I’d buy a book that extends the universe or tells it in better detail like the Halo books.
They have the capacity and capability to tell a good story through gameplay and cut scenes.to make the missions more fun and elongated than “3-5 mission ‘expansions’”, and give us a lot of content that holds us more than just a couple days or weeks. I find myself playing Destiny less and less due to the annoyance of quests just becoming trickled or being padded out for a “meh” reward or a good reward that doesn’t feel as compelling because of the crap you had to go through for it. I’m holding on only BARELY, but soon Bungie is just going to fade into being another EA or Activision if this continues.
@Galen It's a shame that Bungie changed this drastically from what they had been. I can only hope they'll soon change or that this is just a temporary setback, but only time can tell at this point. Also appreciate that your answer is of mind rather than toxicity, a bit rare these days.

Just wanna point out here, about a year later.
Destiny 2 was necessary due to the previous gen console's hardware limitations. The engine was overhauled, not just copy pasted. Also, a lot of the destiny 1 content needs to be updated to the modern graphics/performance standards, so it still takes bungie quite a long time to pretty much reconstruct theses maps.
As a long term "fan" of the franchise you worded it better than I ever could concerning the story, I love the universe when reading about it, but the way the campaigns handle it is always unsatisfying and feels exactly like repeated Act 1s of a story

Gotta give it to the art team. At one point you can see the pyramid from a distance but close too and it really captures the feel that you're one insignificant guardian. I kinda like it.
