Omg is that really Steve? The Steve of Steve's leaves? I love his plants! Lots of my babies came from his greenhouses and I can always tell they were loved before I received them! He's the best!
I have several glass bowls and jars lined up outside. I was going to clean them up and sell them at my yard sale. Now I believe I will fill them as small terrariums.
I respect his honesty!! Thanks for answering my question... because I was freaking out on what charcoal to use🤦... But then I learned it not necessary! Yaaaayyy I'm doing it!🙌
This makes me so happy, I am so glad that I found this video! Thank you so much for this. I have been wanting to create terrariums for so long but never had the money to do so but now I know that some things are not always a need. Thank you! Love your channel too!
These are great tips! I have started my first closed terrarium 3 months ago, with 2 fittonias and 1 ivy in the same jar. After some research I hoped they would survive and that I would provide the right conditions and it turns out I did. They are doing amazing and I'm so happy that I've made in my first try. I have used gravel and charcoal though. Thank you for this video! I love watching them so much!
Georgiana Petu I've been growing fittonia in a bowl shape glass terrarium now for over a year- it was my first plant and got me into growing. I've just started trying to propogate from it (going well so far i think). I mist my fittonia's leaves semi regularly and it's thrived and been a great starter plant for me as someone living in a humid area
Oh WOW Steve from Steve's Leaves!! Thank you for this video Summer!! I've had several jars and glass bowls for a long time wanting to make terrariums!! And I've always believed about the charcoal as well!! So happy I don't need it and can't wait to make my terrariums!!💖😁
Sorry Summer, I was asking a question and my cat stepped on my I pad. My plants are turning brown on the tips. Not all of them, but my spider and Dracena, and a small number of smaller plants. I love your site, keep up the good work. Many thanks for all the great information you give you fans.
Try using rain water, or distilled water I believe. Spider plants specifically are sensitive to what may be in tap water, such as small quantities of iodine or chlorine. So if you happen to be using tap try a different source of water.
This guy offers some good advice. However he is not a terrarium guy. He keeps saying that the gravel does not soak up much water, when in reality it soaks up lots of water. It acts as a reservoir. He also mentioned plucking a plant out after it dies, that tells everything.
I really love his plant collection ..however- that is not a terrarium. I mean that literally is a plant in a bowl - terrarium is an ecosystem that can sustain on its own without much interference really. I've been keeping terrariums for years and that is definitely not how you do it.
Hi Summer, I love your channel. I kept and then lost a couple plants that I just saw you guys pot up in the terrarium....could you maybe id the one with tiny round blue green leaves for me? I'd love to try growing it again if I find it....I never knew what it was to research care requirements....thanks for any help...
Unconventional on the watering. I have a few that I use a kitchen scale and water based on the weight of the entire thing. Track the weight and I know when it needs more water and how much water to add.
Well, ferns and cacti have very different needs when it comes to care because they come from very different places. You might be able to grow them together if you keep them in separate containers within a large terrarium. So for example, keep the cactus in its original plastic pot and water it far less often than the fern but faux plant the cactus in the soil. However, even with doing this you may run the risk of not giving the fern enough humidity or the cactus too much so it would definitely be an experiment and would really depend on the type of fern.

I came for a terrerium, and got an answer to what is going on with my Polka Dot plant. Two for one! Thanks!! 😁

I got some gallon glass jars from my neighbor. Now I have a winter gardening project. Tina, Al's wife
I love this a lot! I have wanted to build a terrarium for a while now, but I never got around to doing it. I'll give it a go soon!
I like his no nonsense way of showing on how to do things.
I like the terrarium covers with holes for ventilation. Thanks for the video & helpful choices. I’m grateful for the introduction to Steve’s Leaves.
I’m scared of terrariums but this video makes me want to try it!
I've been thinking of doing this for some time now with an old goldfish bowl. 🌞 💚 🌴 🐠
I love that nursery omgosh the plants are just gorgeous.
Saw yesterday one for 300 €! It was beautiful and knee high. In a fancy boutique plant shop.
Thanks to this video, I’ll do it myself.

Loved this video. I will definitely make one of my own.
I had no idea you were in Dallas. Hooray!
Mah man Steve
Thank you for sharing this (;
Another lovely video ... do terrariums need drainage holes under ? I did not hear you bring that up during the video... thanks.
No.
no terrarium I know has holes, which is why occasionally some people put faux drainage with rocks/charcoal layer :)
I want to do a moss terrarium with a lid on it

Pilea glauca
Whats the hanging plant on the left at 0:50?
I have a bottle garden. Made it to big IKEA bottle. Quess it is a terrarium garden. I want to make it work as closed ekosystem.
what about the salts building up without drainage holes? is it more short term?
I was searching for something bigger, like an exo terra setup, but this video appeared.

do you ever need to replant the plants/suncculents??

6:42 What is that plant called?
What's that small leaf, silvery green plant at around the 8:20 minute mark that he plants? I don't believe the name was given
Emily C I believe that’s a pilea glauca
Lindo 😍
whats the small training plant with circle leaves thats in the closed terrarium?
Hi! I think this may be an aquamarine pilea or pilea glauca. it's pretty common in many nurseries. hope you find/found it!
Peace out
Is it ok to grow fern with cactus in a port or aquarium together ?
Well, ferns and cacti have very different needs when it comes to care because they come from very different places. Ah, I see. Thank you very much
Hi, could anyone help me with the name of the plant that "looks like ivy"? Thanks!
No Name Needed possibly wax ivy? It’s not actually a type of ivy.
What is the 1st plant?
How is this cute plant with the flower spelled? I just couldn't find it. ^^
Jenny & me episcia
Boa tarde 🌸🌷🌷🌷💖💞
What are the plant names?
OMG 😆
I made one last summer, guess I over watered as all the plants died. Closed container, they got cooked.
ID on 7:19 pls...love terrarium myself
If im not wrong. Its pilea glauca
Anyone who puts soil in before gravel for the drainage of the water, is doing it wrong. There has to be gravel first .
😃...
Nice bait with the image at the start...
Team work under God
👍
African violets have never worked for me, sad because their beautiful in a window
.
