My man BLAT is dead on here. There’s so much subliminal marketing in almost every video you watch. I’ve kayak fished 5 years now and I catch more smallmouth and multi species - and bigger smallmouth (4,5,6lb smallmouth DAILY) on the Mohawk River in NY. The goby have blown these fish up and this river holds 12+lb walleye, a 13 was caught New Year’s Eve 2023. I was there. 35 pound carp, I snagged, 17 pound pike which isn’t even “huge” for that river. And this is all one fishery, I fish the entire south end of the Adirondacks around the Great Sacandaga Lake. Came in 4th in my first GSLFF fishing tournament which is big fish, 4th in bass category in June, in September I placed 2nd out of 131 anglers. I caught 26 smallmouth that day, one 19 1/8 got beat out by a LMB 19 1/2 inches in the last 3 minutes that I guarantee was caught in the pond next door…but regardless..never have used electronics… just use knowledge of how bass set up, when they set up there, time of day, time of year.. TIME ON THE WATER IS ALL YOU NEED, LEARN YOUR FISHERY, don’t rely on word of mouth and electronics to find fish, just go fishing.
Thanks Brian keep those lines tight as f. Have a good day man.

I have ALL the electronics you can think of in my boat (lowrance) but within the first hour of being on the water I find myself forgetting to use them lol. Just out there fishing enjoying life. It wasn’t that way when I was tournament fishing. I was always thinking I needed more to feel “accepted” by the other anglers. Best thing ever was quoting tournaments and going back to fun fishing.

    • @innovativeta5206
      @innovativeta5206 8 месяцев назад +8

Man, you hit the nail on the head here. I used to fish bass tournaments and it started taking the fun out of fishing. I would spend 8 hours fishing and catch three 2lb bass, two 30" pike, four rock bass, a big bowfin (dogfish), three sheephead, a bunch of silver bass, and I would come home feeling like I had a terrible day fishing because I only caught 6 lbs of bass. While I also did well in some tournaments, I realized that everything I loved about fishing was being robbed by the tournament life. Feeling stress while you are fishing is the exact opposite of what that sport should be doing for you. Not everything about tournaments is bad, but I think it has caused a lot of people to forget why they fell in love with fishing, and therefore miss out on many of the joys that it once brought them. Now a days, the 8 hours of fishing I started this reply about, that is an awesome day on the water, as it should be!

Years ago someone told me that I should be a tournament fisherman. I said no. She asked why. I told her because I love fishing and I didn't want it to turn into work.
      I'm glad I didn't.

I find cover and structure that I think a bass could be hanging around and I look for bait fish like bluegills or shiners in the areas that I plan on fishing around with those in mind it could be a couple bass hanging around in that area of the lake because of the bait fish and the cover which is usually grass or lily pads or a lay down or some kind of shade like a overhanging tree brach because it is providing shade for a bass to be hanging around on a hot day

It's true in a sense but regardless the time of the year dictates what fish are doing so yes certain lures and bait will perform better during certain times of year. Sure I can throw a chatterbait in January but there are better things to throw.

I fished a golf course twice a week for four years. Those fish acted exactly like fish in the lakes I fished. There was one pond that I always fished because it was on the way in. I fished it hard many many times. It sucked!! One day a front was coming and I kid you not, I was catching three pounders EVERY cast on a frog.

This is refreshing voice of common sense in a sea of noise. Too many have forgotten what fishing is really all about. It's getting out to enjoy nature, have fun and create some of the best memories with your friends and family you'll have in life. I'm in my late 60's and only recently have moved up to fishing from a small 14' boat, instead of the bank or dock. I started fishing when I was a 6 year old kid on farm ponds using a cane pole, a pack of Eagle Claw bait hooks, braided Dacron fishing line (any old timers remember that stuff?), a rusty bolt nut for a sinker and a can of worms. And yes it worked and I had a blast with my dad. Those are some of my fondest memories with him.

It doesn't have to be. If you watch all the lure videos, you'll go nuts trying to buy and use everything you're told you need.
Watch some videos on bass behavior and how they relate to cover and move based on seasonal conditions.
Those fundamentals will simplify everything you do. You can fish the right lures in the wrong places all day long and get nothing. But if you understand where the fish are going to be, and how water conditions affect their mood, even a lure that is considered to be less optimal can still get you bites.

RUclips is not confusing anyone. People don't want to work for it; they don't really want to even have to think too hard about it. They want to be spoonfed. So they look at everything from a surface, superficial point of view. Cookie cutter fishing is bad fishing. Great topic, and applies across the board.

Great video. The fish Don't care if you're in a $100,000 bass boat with all of the Best equipment. In Fact you can probably catch bigger and Better fish from a kayak with No electronics(studies tell us to turn electronics and trolling motors off in shallow water so we Don't spook the fish). Stealth in a kayak or canoe can go places a bass boat Can't! Treading Lightly we can sneak up on a fish from the bank. My favorite part of the video was about raking the leaves and cutting grass. As a child growing up in the 70's south of Cleveland Ohio my goal when it snowed was NOT to come home until I had $100 in my pocket. At $5-$10 a drive I was doing a LOT of shoveling and it took most of the day. I always had the best fishing tackle, rods and reels of all of my friends. NOTHING is out of our reach if we put our minds to it, Amen. GOD Bless.

I fish small and medium sized rivers from a kayak. There is no other fresh water fishing that is more consistently fun. I have a boat and it basically collects dust. But anyway I have the electronics on the kayak and the only time I use it, is on a new stretch of river and it’s only to see the depth. Safety is half the reason I want to know the depth. Once I know that I’m good. River fishing is all instinct and experience.

I agree honestly I dislike seeing "USE THESE BAITS in this month" etc. etc.. I live up near Lake Erie and Allegheny River i can assure everyone that southern fishers have a incredibly hard time up here in the north if they follow their own advice. Our version of cold water vs their version of cold water is much different. Theirs is like 50-60 our cold water is actually cold 30-40 degrees. I also dislike seeing educational videos of a dude fishing in a private pond, that's like shooting fish in a barrel. Past 3 years I have gotten pretty big into bass fishing and I'm having the time of my life this year I'm starting to compete in Kayak Bass fishing. I wanted a boat so bad I was looking all over for cheap ones, but now since I dabbled into Kayak fishing, I got hooked (lol). Bought my 2nd one a better one than I have now. I have 0 desire now for a actual boat since being on a kayak presents a lot more opportunities to catch fish in places those big bass boats cant get. The only thing that prevents me from fishing constantly everyday all day now is work. Great Video and great point, You really don't have to have the most expensive stuff to enjoy yourself and have tons of fun.

I have caught double digits, 40+lb bags, and waterbody records for largemouth and smallmouth bass without electronics and bank fishing on public bodies of water. I hold the c&r record for largemouth bass on my home lake, a 96,000 acre impoundment with nearly 600 miles of shoreline, thats also a 100ft deep, and i caught that fish from shore. Numerous 5-6lb class smallmouth....IN TEXAS from shore, kayak, and boat with no ffs. All of this has been achieved just in the past 3-4 years. I have electronics, but that doesnt mean i rely on them. Sure SOME baits can work anytime of the year but SOME baits are strictly situational like you said those seasons highly increase your odds of it working based on historical facts of what’s going on in the water at that time of the year. So while yes you can catch ‘em on a shakey head year round, a swimbait all year round, a worm all year round. But like you said a topwater…not the most efficient lure in the winter. A chatterbait…not the most efficient in the winter. Yes you can catch a lucky 1-2 but it’s not the most efficient. I’m trying to figure out if this is just an attempt to sell more lures or if you actually believe it. When you go into a tourney you have that seasons highest producing baits tied on right? I’d be willing to bet 8/10 of your rods follow the rule.

I like the video but I think we're stating the obvious here. You don't even need a pole to catch fish but it sure is easier to catch em right? Same with electronics. I too have FFS and I'm not efficient with it yet. I sit and dwell on inactive fish for too long and waste time in tournaments. I need to get better with it, because I know from watching others who are better with it that I will catch more fish once I'm proficient. I catch fish without it, but there's a lot of "fishing" in between that is drastically reduced with FFS. If you don't see a fish, you keep moving. However...you don't need FFS for shallow water fishing. You barely need electronics except for water temp and depth...that's it! Look at John Cox, he's a perfect example of it. He's one of the best there is at shallow bass fishing and has made a lot of money at it. But there are days that he struggles because he doesn't fish deeper.

Im like Brian. Now that I have the best in Electronics for my bass boat, Im not going back. Do I need them? No. Fished my whole life with out them and caught plenty of fish still. So why are they a must for me now? Well I use my graphs for mapping, waypoints, water conditions, and looking for particular features. The only time Im actually looking for actual fish on the graph is when Im out looking for crappie or bluegill. I think the term fish finder is the stupidest name ever. If you are out using your electronics to find fish on the graph you are wasting its potential and you are losing a lot of potential catches.

Never used electronics in my life. I catch so many fish. I fish a super heavy pressured pond in Philly all the time, and catch more bass than any other person out there. I know that because I’m out there basically every day, and when Im catching them when others aren’t. To be fair, I know that pond really well.

I agree on that you don’t have to have electronics but we fish Kentucky lake and I know I can catch without. Do you feel it is more important on lakes like Kentucky?
We will see you in April at Kentucky.

No you don't have to have fancy electronics. I fished around 5 or 6 boats with some sort of ffs Thursday and had them looking at me like damn this man is kicking ass in his Jon boat. Take that 12ft Jon boat all over Alabama 👊

I fish to have fun and reboot my mental compass. I don’t want to over stress trying to find the perfect lake layout. I have decent electronics, but 98% of the time I just use it for water depth and throw what I want to throw because I want to throw it👍🏼😀

I fish in MN. Bass fishing is not hard lol. From opener to ice up i beliece its impossible up here to not catch atlwast 1 bass per trip. I recently upgraded my electronis to 2 helix 12s and a garmin 12 ffs. Not cuz ineed to but because i want to. Mainly for lakes like mille lacs or when im in Mi on the great lakes. But 99% of the time ill be in norther mn froggin, flippin, swimbaiting or topwater. I offshore fish for smallies alot not as much largies but this yrim gonna focus on offshore more for largies with my upgrade.

I just bought the deeper pro plus castable sonar .... I bought it to see what the bottom where I fish looks like to find the depth of where I'm fishing and temps ....I don't care about the fish finder part ...I'm more concerned about the others things like lay dons and bottom of pond and I heard this little pond is 70 feet deep at one point it was an old quarry

In my area we mostly have small shallow lakes so they fill completely up with weeds. The amount of vegetation and water temp are the biggest considerations I have when I try to figure out what to throw.
There isn't many opportunities to bank fish since most of the land is privately owned. So a boat and trailer really open up the opportunities. I totally agree with the electronics issue. Maybe because the lakes by me are usually less than 50 acres and shallow. There aren't many places for them to hide and they are pretty easy to pattern

I don't use sonar at all for bass fishing. I only use it to find crappie when they are sitting deep in open water. Usually from a float tube (with dive fins on) because I'm in Arizona and it's nice to sit in the water.
