    This is truly one impressive plane. A perfect example of you get what you pay for in life. It looks perfect in every attitude. Beautiful evening and another great video. Thanks for all of the flying in the side yard area. 👍. I just finished a wonderful 2 hours of flying this morning myself. Have a great weekend. God bless.

    All I can say about the Draco, one day when I get good enough to fly it comfortably, and when I save up enough pop bottle money. But I will have one that is for sure.

    Brian, I love all your videos. I put a few hours of flying time on my Draco this weekend. I bought my brother the Carbon Cub S2 to get him into the hobby. It was awesome to see how quickly he picked it up and we were flying together, after a day of flying we installed the flaps for him and he is having a blast. This is an amazing hobby and you guys are awesome stewards of it, Thank you!

      So glad you and your brother can enjoy this hobby together. I like how you gave him a "Free sample" just like the drug dealers - now he's hooked for life ;) I wish more people would do this for their brothers...I know I should!. My brother would probably be a good pilot, but he's not as disciplined into this type of activity as me...we played (and still very occasionally play) disk golf together, and that was real fun, and that too requires a lot of skill, but it's also more public and cheap. You can play for a couple hundred dollars and be outfit like a pro and then most courses are free. I predominately played with my cousin Scott, but then he moved to live with his wife in MO, so I lost my primary disk golf partner, and then I decided to get into flying rc aircraft....the rest is history ;) When we moved out here to this new property, it was a huge investment, but it wasn't just for RC planes...we had been looking for property prior to my starting into the hobby. In fact, but it took 7+ years to find and buy this land, then another year to build the house and runway ;) Now this property has enabled me to keep flying like I was able to do in town...mostly in front of the house (kinda right before all the BS FAA rules started) and at a community college right across the main highway, North of our development. This was a huge aid in helping me LEARN to fly, since I could fly every day, if the weather cooperated, AND I DID. I know having a venue is a big part of helping people make success of their RC efforts, but I wish the bar for entry could be lowered as much as possible to help people bring in their brother or friend or kids, etc... I'm so glad you lowered the bar to help your brother into the hobby, but more importantly, glad your brother jumped over the bar ;) That's kinda where I've struggled with my brother...I haven't exactly offered, but maybe I need to do that first. If he jumps, good...if not, at least I tried.
      Yes, and it's my preferred pack...fits nicely, and long flight times....

      @@BrianPhillipsRC Thanks for the reply, I do not currently have a place to fly where i live. I have to pack up everything and drive (the closest place is about 20 minutes). The Draco especially takes up a lot of room. plus my 3 boys are into it also so I usually have to pack their flite test foamies and whatever tools and batteries we need. It's usally quite the operation. I am so excited to buy a place that can accommodate a runway. We are hoping to buy a place with land within the next year. Definitely try to get your brother into it. It was awesome flying with mine. He lives in Colorado (pipeline worker) and I live in Ohio so we don't get to spend much time together. I am excited to see how he progresses in the hobby and trade experiences on our phone calls. Have a great day and keep up the awesome videos. Maybe you can make it out to Flite Fest Ohio one year, It was awesome this year!

    Hi Brian, Enjoyed your video. After a long wait my Draco finally arrived in UK. As I have an NX10 I put reverse onto the left roller on the back and the lights onto the roller on the other side - both being very easy to reach. Particularly compared to the knob! On maiden flight I checked trim and flap trim then opened throttle to full in a gentle descent. When I started to level it wouldn't. Closed throttle and no effect with full up elevator. Roll OK. Draco smashed into ground and seriously damaged itself. Examination of the wreckage in situ I noticed no damage to the tail section which didn't impact the ground BUT the elevator was detached from the horizontal stabiliser and only held to the aircraft by the control rod. The elevator surface is secured with 4 fibre hinges. All hinges had slid out and showed no signs of adhesive. I gently pulled each hinge and all slid out. On assembly of the Draco it appeared to me the elevator was only secured by foam - as is often the case with EPO constructed aircraft. The hinges were not visible. Because it was a bit stiff I waggled it back and forth a few times to loosen it up and it felt secure. I have since discovered there have been similar failures but mine being the first in UK. It is a heavy aircraft. Had it injured anyone or caused damage itcwould now be a Police matter and because Horizon have taken no steps to warn owners but know about it, they would not be in a happy position! I am pleased to be able to say I have been informed by my retailer that the Horizon agent in UK has agreed to replace my Draco but it will be a few weeks before they are back in stock. I will be fitting some more substantial hinges and ensuring they are glued! All very annoying. It would be a good idea if Horizon instigated a Safety Alert System for their aircraft because inevitably this sort of thing will occur from time to time, whether due to faulty design or poor quality control. As a professional pilot, we have it in full scale aircraft and so we should for models to protect those on the ground.

      A good post Tommy, and as for myself flying the full scale models it is always an early morning trip to the field when nobody else is around, seeing to many near misses on a crowded Saturday, solo flying removes that one element of stress and uncertainty.

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  3 года назад

      Sorry this happen - did you elevator pull OUT (to the rear of the craft) - I had that happen to me when I was testing the throttle on my maiden flight, I put my lets on the leading edge of the horizontal stab, and gave some throttle...then the part popped out - so yeah, I know what you're talking about, but haven't had it pop out since. It had to be BRACED to pop out in my case. I wonder if this part should be taped in or glued to keep it solid. Possibly a bracket with a bolt to keep it seated. This would keep the assembly together. The trouble in your situation, what came first, the chicken or the egg...sounds like you're crash investigation was good, but it's still tough to be 100% sure when that part came off...in flight causing the crash, or as a result of the crash. I guess we could conclude, since others have had similar issue, that you're was the CAUSE? Either way, glad you're safe and nobody got hurt, and very glad HH is replacing your model, albeit annoying to go through such a situation, I'm very glad to hear that they are taking care of you on this issue. So many other companies would have let you out to dry on this.

    • @tabdycollins
      @tabdycollins 3 года назад

      @@BrianPhillipsRC From what you say I gather the whole tailplane clicked out whilst you were holding it for a full throttle run-up?
      That wasn't what happened with mine. In my case the elevator detached from the horizontal stabiliser. The foam was not strong enough and it should have been held by 4 hinges which one could not see because they are embedded in the foam. It was clear there was no adhesive on those hinges and when I pulled the exposed half of the hinge it easily came out. When building the aircraft the elevator hinge seemed quite stiff - as is often the case with foam hinges - so I waggled it back and forth to ease it. This probably did more harm than good with this foam connection because after the crash I could see it was very thin and would never have withstood any force, although whilst waggling it felt secure. I suppose it comes down to both inadequate quality control and a design that does not reveal the construction. There do seem to have been a few similar cases but probably very few as a percentage of those sold.

    By watching you I’d learn something today. The other day I was flying my night timber. I haven’t flown it in a long time so I went to make my approach to land, I reached over to flip it in the safe mode on and I hit the motor reverse 🤯. So a new prop and a little hot glue on my right gear and I’m backup in the air again, fly’s like never happened. A couple of guys out at the field said for me to change the “B” switch to “I” button for reversing. So now I just drop the RPM push the button and I have reversing so so cool. A little getting used to but I love it. 😇. Oh and by the way guys fantastic video and the Draco. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

    Hi Brian, from Ontario Canada, first I do very much enjoy your videos especially before I purchase an airplane to see how it is to build and fly. Anyways a few months ago FYI I did purchase a Draco and the motor quit a few feet before maiden takeoff, ( thank goodness it quit on the ground) the ESC was defective and HH replaced it free, it took me a month or more to get around to installing the ESC but tested the model in the backyard to see if the engine and ESC worked, it did, didn't have a chance to maiden it because I had too many other airplanes to maiden so everything once again seems to be good on the Draco once again I will get it up asap in the spring. Yes I just purchased the RV7 and the FMS 1400 Pitts they fly great now the Sig Something Extra.
    Keep it up Brain!!!!!!

    I don't think its too expensive but I go by parts prices. I added up the parts and was over 1200 dollars quickly so I didn't buy one. 150 dollars for half of a foam wing. If it was fixable at a reasonable price I would buy one.

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  3 года назад

      I love them all for different reasons. The Draco is the most scale looking, then Beaver/Cessna for second in terms of scale, and Carbon Z Cub last for scale...but in the reverse order for flight fun. I LOVE the Carbon Z Cub SS 2.1m - I can fly it in CRAZY wind, and still enjoy it. The Draco is Fast and POWERFUL, but it's also more delicate, from what some have suggested, but I have had great luck with mine (some say the main CF on the mains is too weak, but I can't say I agree, since I've not had that issue...but a lot of people have had issues)/
      If I had to "save one" from a fire in the basement, it would be a tough call....
      Carbon Z Cessna 150 bit.ly/30PJkkD
      Carbon Z Cub SS bit.ly/30P5mUA
      Draco bit.ly/3ttx3ix
      Beaver 2.0m bit.ly/3zZGqKn + AR637T bit.ly/3pW3u86
      Just keep in mind LED's on all of them and FAR Best on the Draco. NONE on the Carbon Cub SS 2.1m (I agree, how lame!)
      Also, keep in mind, you'll need an Rx in the Beaver, which makes it appear to be a cheaper choice, but it's not really. Also, it's the ONLY one without Avian ESC, so if you want thrust reversing, you could get the AR631 (save a few bucks) and get Avian ESC and you'd have it ALL.
      Tough call. All VERY good, and that's no bs - I don't care which one you pick, but they all use the same EXPENSIVE lipos, and will all deliver a GREAT stock experience, BUT at the end of the day, the Cessna 150T probably delivers the most impressive, straight out of the box fun...except it suffers to drive backward without tearing up the tail dragger....
      I just have to say - they are all so good, this is a tough call!

      Sorry to hear that, and I think this one will be around for some time.
      As for sounding like Battlestar Galactica - We are not sure WHY this happens....we filmed the Carbon Z Cessna 150T about 30 minutes prior to this flight (published Tuesday or Wednesday) and no Battlestar Galactica - Why??? We don't know. We want to figure it out, but we haven't isolated why it happens, so we can avoid it. At some point, when and if we would ever get proper video editing software, we could possible CUT out and VOICE over the weird noises...but until then, it's Battlestar Galactica for you all ;) Hope you don't mind too much...we do ;( - it's frustrating, since we mic test every single time we start filming and always check for this phenomena.
      Thanks for understanding!

    Hey Brian... I bought the 6" Pneumatic wheels for my Carbon Z Cub to do your suggested upgrade... but I just got my Draco and after 1 afternoon of flying it, I decided I might sell the Carbon Z, which only has about 6 flights, and I haven't put the new wheelz on yet. lol

      Tires on the Draco are so much better stock, than the Carbon Z Cub SS 2.1m - those ones are HARD. The Draco wheels are fairly soft, stock, but pneumatic tires would be an improvement on most plane...they are a lot heavier though.

    Do all these R/C planes come with the radio transmitters or do ya have to buy them seperatly???

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  3 года назад +1

      No...Most of the planes we do are BNF or PNF, but we occasionally do a RTF, but they're usually in the "toy grade arena" - meaning a little $50-100 cheap Chinese toy...that DOES fly, and might be a blast, but not something you'll be flying in 5 years.
      THIS Draco is BNF, and I use my NX8 and SMART battery in it for this flight (description has a list of the items I used).
      Here's a quick breakdown for you....
      The BNF (Bind and Fly) planes require you provide the transmitter and battery (And charger).
      RTF (Ready to fly) comes with most of what you need...sometimes you have to have an AC to USB charger adapter, or 4 AA batteries...but super small things.
      (PNP or PNF) Plug and Play / Plug and Fly comes with the plane, less the RECEIVER, transmitter, and battery (and charger) - this one is good for a plane that one manufacturer makes, but assumes another non-proprietary radio system will have a high rate of adoption by their customers... For instance, if you use a FUTABA (FHSS Radio) radio, and want a Horizon Hobby (Spektrum DSMX Receiver Equipped) plane, you can get a FUTABA receiver, and use your Preferred transmitter, then buy a PNF plane from Horizon Hobby. Some of the transmitters use proprietary TRANSITION PROTOCOLS, meaning, only DSMX Transmitter will talk with a DSMX Receiver, for example.

      P.S. I'm sorry for my SLOW replay - we've had some very big things happening here...
      As for flight times...I've gotten like 20+ minutes on a 7000mAh 6S 30C pack, but I want you to watch and make sure I'm NOT misguiding you. I think that was on the maiden flight videos...
      Draco bit.ly/3ttx3ix
      Batteries I have used and recommend...
      SMART G2 5000mAh 6S 30C - bit.ly/3jbgUff - this would be where I would fly, if you want to keep from mortgaging for the 7Ah battery
      SMART G2 7000mAh 6S 30C - bit.ly/2U5OB7K - this is the BEST pick for the Draco, but I fear it might ONLY be used for the draco? If you're only gonna use it for the Draco, maybe you could get the 5Ah so you have a better "middle ground"...might get you flying a few more great new releases.
