10 months ago: “Why another high wing scale model? You’ve got so many already.” Now: “I’ve ordered one and am highly anticipating delivery”.👊🏻 Thanks Horizon.
G’day Jason. Just great & so well presented. My favourite has always been the original Timber 1.5 so i am looking forward to my delivery here in Australia. With the telemetry screens, i imagine you would use most of these on he ground as no way could i fly & check details in flight.... maybe its because i am getting old. Well done!
@@citizenblue Still practicing with my Tundra. It's easy to fly but I still manage to crash land! Wind is always a challenge for me with these light foam planes.
Awesome demonstration of great model plane, one of the best made. Love this plane and Mike Patey's incredible aircraft Hmmm. Ned to spend some stimulus cash on this.
Hey, looking for help here. I realize by asking this I'm probably making it perfectly clear that I'm a noob to radios, so pretend crash and burn. How many channels do I need for the basics + reverse thrust + at least 2 different notches of flaperons for Draco? Do I need extra channels for all the lights as well?
Yes, your DX8 will definitely work with DRACO! And you'll be able to take advantage of all the available features/functions: Channel 1 = Throttle Channel 2 = Aileron Channel 3 = Elevator Channel 4 = Rudder Channel 5 = Light Module/Controller*** Channel 6 = Flaps Channel 7 = Motor Reversing Channel 8 = SAFE Select on/off ***If you use a knob, you can rotate it to select between all 7 available light modes. You can also use mixes to achieve various light mode and other function combinations (e.g. motor reversing turns the backup light on).
More aerobatics including rolls, snaps, inverted flight, etc., plus rough surface landings, will be shown in the additional Flight Talk videos we release over the next few weeks: Be sure to Subscribe and Turn On Notifications because a new E-flite DRACO related video will be published on this channel every Wednesday at 11:00 AM EDT (UTC−04:00) through April 21st, 2021!
Got my order in and waiting on that damn slow boat from china! I can't freaking wait! Mike Patey is a national treasure! An amazing pilot, engineer, artisan and human being! Got excited for this since it was announced at Oshkosh. Thought I'd wait until after the summer since it's too bloody hot here in Phoenix but...I just couldn't wait! I'll drive up to Prescott and Flagstaff this summer just to fly Draco! The Monster Truck of STOL planes! Gotta love that! Great job, Horizon. Yea. Cub and Timber are great first planes. IMHO... great first EDF jet is the F16 F16 Tbird and the A10 Warthog. They just fly so well and with safe...you just have to work the landings. The A10 just sticks to the ground after touchdown. The F16 needs high alpha on landing but that's a great technique to learn.
@@stoybenxi7395 This was not a bundle, I ordered everything separately. Unfortunately, many things started breaking on my plane. On the fifth flight a malfunctioning servo crashed the plane.
The best model plane I ever saw! That said, watch closely at 22:09.. Then again at 22:23..What is the white thing flying by? I don't see any wings flapping. It might be a planet or bright star coming out. What is that?
I'm still waiting for the Fire Breathing.... 😕 What percentages Flap to Elevator mixes are you using? Pre-ordered mine a little while ago, can't wait to get it.
Jason used the values listed in the instruction manual: www.horizonhobby.com/on/demandware.static/-/Sites-horizon-master/default/dw54923bd6/Manuals/EFL12550-Manual-Eng.pdf
Hi Jason, would you be able to map the wiring diagram for the light controller. Mine got unplugged and I can’t figure out the right port for each wire. Now the lights don’t work properly. I asked HH chat customer service and they said they will get back to me but no one contacted me or sent me anything. I’m hoping HH at least publish this somewhere where customers can find it.
In the US, do I need to get a special license to fly this beast? Written exam? Flight test? I'd buy this in a flash if I had a good place to fly it. I'm learning to fly a small rc plane, SPORT CUB S2, over a pond next to my home. Not enough space to do Draco justice.
It is not. You must have a minimum of a 7-channel transmitter for motor reversing (the reverse function is "hard programmed" to channel 7 in the ESC): FOR BNF Basic Version Models: 1) DX6e; DX6 Gen 2/Gen 3 setup Channel 1 = Throttle Channel 2 = Aileron Channel 3 = Elevator Channel 4 = Rudder Channel 5 = Light Module/Controller* Channel 6 = Flaps *You can combine SAFE Select on channel 5 with the light controller. However, the light mode WILL change when you switch between SAFE Select on/off. If you use a 2-position switch (such as A) you’ll get 2 light modes…if you use a 3-position switch (such as B) you’ll get 3 light modes. There are 7 light modes available so you’ll only be able to adjust the channel 5 travel to achieve 2 or 3 of those 7 when using a 2-poition or 3-position switch. You CANNOT use motor reversing with these 6-channel transmitters (the NX6 or another 7+ channel transmitter is required). This is why we recommend upgrading to a 7, or preferably 8+ channel transmitter, for DRACO and other future model releases. You could also “Y” the light controller and flaps so the light mode changes with flap position in order to have SAFE Select function separately on channel 5, but we won’t officially recommend this. Or, you can combine SAFE Select on channel 6 with the flaps, but we won’t officially recommend this either. 2) NX6; DX7 Gen 2 setup Channel 1 = Throttle Channel 2 = Aileron Channel 3 = Elevator Channel 4 = Rudder Channel 5 = Light Module/Controller Channel 6 = Flaps Channel 7 = Motor Reversing or SAFE Select on/off** **You can use channel 7 for turning SAFE Select on/off independently. Or you can use it for motor reversing. You can then combine SAFE Select on channel 5 with the light controller (if you use channel 7 for motor reversing). 3) DX8e; DX8 Gen 2; DX9; DX10t; DX18; DX20; NX8; NX10; iX12; iX20 setup Channel 1 = Throttle Channel 2 = Aileron Channel 3 = Elevator Channel 4 = Rudder Channel 5 = Light Module/Controller*** Channel 6 = Flaps Channel 7 = Motor Reversing Channel 8 = SAFE Select on/off ***If you use a knob, you can rotate it to select between all 7 available light modes. Horizon Hobby, a quick question. Are the flying characteristics of this plane on the simulator close to real flight? This would be my 2nd plane after a Carbon Cub S2. The Draco is actually very manageable to fly on the simulator. Please advise. I also like the Carbon Z Cessna 150T.
Can i overwrite save on gearchannel with Motor reverse? I find it realy unfortunate that the Bnf doesn't have the full capabilities... (Im not native englisch)
The BNF Basic version DRACO does have the full capabilities when using a 7 to 8+ channel transmitter. If you're using a 6-channnel transmitter you can update the ESC to assign motor reversing to channel 5/gear, but you will not be able to control the lights independently then (because the light controller is plugged into channel 5 on the receiver). Without updating the ESC, these are our recommended radio setups: FOR BNF Basic Version Models: 1) DX6e; DX6 Gen 2/Gen 3 setup Channel 1 = Throttle Channel 2 = Aileron Channel 3 = Elevator Channel 4 = Rudder Channel 5 = Light Module/Controller* Channel 6 = Flaps *You can combine SAFE Select on channel 5 with the light controller. However, the light mode WILL change when you switch between SAFE Select on/off. Received mine, super nice. However was completely floored when I discovered the elevator is driven by a SUB MICRO A332 servo!! I can kind of understand this decision on the ailerons and flaps, from a cost cutting perspective, but IMO still too small of a servo for any control surface of this plane. However, the elevator on this bird is BIG and the leverage encounters when maneuvering this large foamy around the sky is nothing small. I really dont understand why you guys didn't go for a more robust servo in the rear, for this highly critical part. From experience I think the A332 is bound to fail. It's funny because the listing on the Horizon site makes no mention of the use of these specific servos, just says (metal gear servos installed)
We worked closely with the manufacturer to improve both the performance and reliability of the A332 servo over the last year. We have thousands of flights on dozens of DRACOs and have never had an A332 servo fail on the elevator. Some small percentage of any mass produced servo will fail at some point, but after working with the manufacturer we've gotten that failure rate from industry average to well below it for the A332...while improving the overall performance at the same time. The latest iteration of the A332 is a (yes, somewhat shockingly!) very capable servo that we will continue using in more and more models because it outperforms, and now outlasts, many even larger/heavier servos!
How will that landing gear fair in a hard landing? My only concern is what will give and be replaceable.. love this plane but I would want to fly it everyday and if it holds up like a turbo timber I'm in.
Haven't flown a model plane yet, have been involved with rc for years. But I'd like to have one just to sit in my man cave. Think Mike would sign it for me? :)

Need to come out and fly with you Jason, maybe the next event.
Beautiful plane, great job Horizon
OMG this video made me even more excited for mine nice flying Jason!!!
I'm ready for UMX!
Stunning! Most excellent job, sweet!
This will be a icon in time, and if you don't know the real one, do yourself a favor and see Mike's videos, they are really awesome.
The scale look is just crazy!! Looking forward to these sunset flights🔥
Beautiful demonstration..very nice plane
Super flying, she looks so good
I really like what E-Flite is doing with their models these days. Great looking plane Guys 👍
Never get tired of watching this plane fly low and slow...
Is this the 1st flight video on RUclips? Looks so real amazing 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Yes, this is the first "official" and "real time" flight video on RUclips :)
More power always gives you confident take offs...Great suggestion!!!
Awesome video! Very informative, detailed and good flying!
10 months ago: “Why another high wing scale model? You’ve got so many already.”
Now: “I’ve ordered one and am highly anticipating delivery”.👊🏻 Thanks Horizon.
I'm mainly an RC helicopter guy but this model really has my attention. I like that it works with my 6s 5000 packs
Ok I push the preorder , my DJI FPV is ready.
I can’t wait for the shipping e-mail 😅
Same here
Great job Jason! I ordered mine, and after showing a buddy, he ordered one also!
Great product and great video! My order is in!!
Well done!
Great video. Nice to see you back in LV. You sold me a couple of planes at your going away blowout!
THATS AMAZING........Im getting one.
Can't wait for mine!
You picked a perfect evening to demonstrate that beautiful plane! I still crash too much to get something that nice.
FWIW, this one will probably be able to take a beating, with shocks, big tires, scuff skids, and SAFE. As long as you don't plow it in, you're good!
@@citizenblue Still practicing with my Tundra. It's easy to fly but I still manage to crash land! Wind is always a challenge for me with these light foam planes.
@@vencemcadams2927 Agreed. Planes with a Higher wing loading tend to penetrate the wind much better
Can’t wait for my Draco to arrive! Awesome video and great flying once again Jason! 😄🙏🏽🚀
Nice. Pre order mine the second I got notified. Nice flying maybe in 26 years I’ll be as good a pilot as you.
I’m gonna have to get one! I hope there’s a Scrappy, and Draco X in the future.
Awesome demonstration of great model plane, one of the best made. Love this plane and Mike Patey's incredible aircraft Hmmm. Ned to spend some stimulus cash on this.
Excellent flight 😍✈️👍
If I could afford another hobby, I'd buy this in a HEARTBEAT!
Hopefully I'll be able to get my hands on one around mid may in the UK 😍
What a great looking airplane ✈
Thank you HH for making this rc plane. I can’t wait to get mine. This is such a good plane to have and btw great video. 👍
Gorgeous. Just gorgeous.
Interesting that you say this couldn't be a trainer, but it seems to be a nice easy flyer.
Great video, I have a DX8 radio. Do you know if the Draco works with my radio? I don't want to get a new radio if I don't have to. Thanks,
Yes, your DX8 will definitely work with DRACO! And you'll be able to take advantage of all the available features/functions:
Channel 1 = Throttle
Channel 2 = Aileron
Channel 3 = Elevator
Channel 4 = Rudder
Channel 5 = Light Module/Controller***
Channel 6 = Flaps
Channel 7 = Motor Reversing
Channel 8 = SAFE Select on/off
***If you use a knob, you can rotate it to select between all 7 available light modes. You can also use mixes to achieve various light mode and other function combinations (e.g. motor reversing turns the backup light on).
I purchased it....will be delivered ultimo April :-) YAY!!!
Awesome plane! I wish he could of showed us some barrel rolls or if it can fly inverted.
If I had this, TBS Crossfire straight in there. (And probably FPV cockpit view.)
So glad I ordered right away, great flying and demo Jason, Draco Draco, Jeff in LA USA
Enjoyed the video, awaiting delivery.
Ahh yeah this is what I’ve been waiting for🥺😎
Got my order in and waiting on that damn slow boat from china!
I can't wait to get the E flight Draco I'm going to get mine on October 1st
I preordered mine through Mike Patey's website on the first day! I just received an NX8 transmitter, two G2 batteries and a G2 charger, I'm ready! 👍😎🛩
What was the price for the whole bundle, I’ve been waiting for a frame to get me back into the hobby
@@stoybenxi7395 This was not a bundle, I ordered everything separately. Unfortunately, many things started breaking on my plane. On the fifth flight a malfunctioning servo crashed the plane.
@@paulkrapp you know what that means
@@paulkrapp break out the RnD table and re-engineer the platform to do silly things
The best model plane I ever saw! That said, watch closely at 22:09.. Then again at 22:23..What is the white thing flying by? I don't see any wings flapping. It might be a planet or bright star coming out. What is that?
beautiful, just beautiful ; )
I got my preorder in the first day right before it went on backorder. Man, I hope I'm in the first batch! 🤞
He sat for like 12 minutes like that....even my ankles started hurting.
I'm still waiting for the Fire Breathing.... 😕
What percentages Flap to Elevator mixes are you using?
So beautiful 😍 cannot wait to get mine!! Hurry up, Switzerland's RC community is impatient 🇨🇭
I miss flying out there!
In the US, do I need to get a special license to fly this beast? Written exam? Flight test?
I'd buy this in a flash if I had a good place to fly it. I'm learning to fly a small rc plane, SPORT CUB S2, over a pond next to my home. Not enough space to do Draco justice.
Very impressive. She’s a dead ringer. On my short list of planes to pick up.
Is my DX6e compatible for the motor reverse? (i.e. use my 6 channels for thrust, aeleron, rudder, elevator, flaps and reverse?)
It is not. You must have a minimum of a 7-channel transmitter for motor reversing (the reverse function is "hard programmed" to channel 7 in the ESC):
FOR BNF Basic Version Models:
1) DX6e; DX6 Gen 2/Gen 3 setup
Channel 1 = Throttle
Channel 2 = Aileron
Channel 3 = Elevator
Channel 4 = Rudder
Channel 5 = Light Module/Controller*
Channel 6 = Flaps
*You can combine SAFE Select on channel 5 with the light controller.
2) NX6; DX7 Gen 2 setup
Channel 1 = Throttle
Channel 2 = Aileron
Channel 3 = Elevator
Channel 4 = Rudder
Channel 5 = Light Module/Controller
Channel 6 = Flaps
Channel 7 = Motor Reversing or SAFE Select on/off**
**You can use channel 7 for turning SAFE Select on/off independently. Or you can use it for motor reversing. You can then combine SAFE Select on channel 5 with the light controller (if you use channel 7 for motor reversing).
3) DX8e; DX8 Gen 2; DX9; DX10t; DX18; DX20; NX8; NX10; iX12; iX20 setup
Channel 1 = Throttle
Channel 2 = Aileron
Channel 3 = Elevator
Channel 4 = Rudder
Channel 5 = Light Module/Controller***
Channel 6 = Flaps
Channel 7 = Motor Reversing
Channel 8 = SAFE Select on/off
***If you use a knob, you can rotate it to select between all 7 available light modes. You can also use mixes to achieve various light mode and other function combinations (e.g. motor reversing turns the backup light on).
I learned how to fly using second gen Real flight sim, saved a lot of work repairing my plane! =)
4k wowwwww soooo amazing wowwwwwwwwww
Ordered mine a week ago, when can we expect to see it?
Can i overwrite save on gearchannel with Motor reverse? I find it realy unfortunate that the Bnf doesn't have the full capabilities... (Im not native englisch)
The BNF Basic version DRACO does have the full capabilities when using a 7 to 8+ channel transmitter. If you're using a 6-channnel transmitter you can update the ESC to assign motor reversing to channel 5/gear, but you will not be able to control the lights independently then (because the light controller is plugged into channel 5 on the receiver). Without updating the ESC, these are our recommended radio setups:
FOR BNF Basic Version Models:
1) DX6e; DX6 Gen 2/Gen 3 setup
Channel 1 = Throttle
Channel 2 = Aileron
Channel 3 = Elevator
Channel 4 = Rudder
Channel 5 = Light Module/Controller*
Channel 6 = Flaps

@@HorizonHobbyProducts Thanks for the answer, I have a Dx8 and I'm pretty sure I will buy a Draco somewere in the future.
Beautiful
Freekin awesome!!!!! 👍
How will that landing gear fair in a hard landing? My only concern is what will give and be replaceable.. love this plane but I would want to fly it everyday and if it holds up like a turbo timber I'm in.
Great job folks
Haven't flown a model plane yet, have been involved with rc for years. But I'd like to have one just to sit in my man cave. Think Mike would sign it for me? :)
Jason looks like very little Tip Stall. How’s is it? Mine should be here very soon, ordered it right when it was released.
