Take a “Behind The Innovation” look at one of the most anticipated RC (Radio Controlled) aircraft releases of all time! After nearly two years of design and development, Horizon Hobby is proud to introduce the Extra Scale DRACO 2.0m - the most highly engineered, detailed and feature-rich E-flite® aircraft to date, and the only officially-licensed model of Mike Patey’s ultimate bush plane. It excels at STOL and scale-like flying - and looks amazing while doing both!
ABSOLUTELY ONE OF A KIND
Inspired by the incredible ingenuity and effort Mike Patey put into building the full-sized aircraft, E-flite® offers the only officially-licensed scale replica of the ultimate bush plane! The amazing DRACO 2.0m is one of the most highly-engineered, detailed and feature-rich RC models ever produced. Beyond its complex design and the accurate shape of its fully-molded, lightweight and durable EPO airframe with a factory-applied finish, it also features an abundance of Extra Scale details including a variety of surface features, steps, antennas, wingtip “stinger” skids, and much more. The clear windshield and windows offer an excellent view of the detailed cockpit with pilot figure and backlit instrument panel. Functional Extra Scale features include licensed, scale-like KING shocks on the main gear and tail wheel, leading-edge slats, slotted flaps and more. There are also a total of 17 LEDs throughout the airframe - with a custom controller that allows you to select solid, strobing and other light combination options from your transmitter. Oversized, tundra-style tires on the custom-made carbon fiber main gear soak up bumps and provide excellent prop clearance, while the shock-absorbing and steerable tailwheel offers improved ground handling - even when taxiing backward with the optional-use motor reversing (compatible Smart receiver and 7+ channel transmitter required for reversing).
Factory-installed, metal-geared servos with ball-link equipped and internal linkages deliver crisp, precise control. The high-power brushless outrunner motor can drive the scale 4-blade propeller with a wide range of 4000-7000mAh batteries, from a 4S pack for slow and smooth scale flight to 6S power for better-than-scale vertical performance. It's also equipped with a 100-amp Spektrum™ Avian™ Smart ESC, and the BNF® Basic version includes an AR637TA Smart receiver that delivers full-range telemetry including real-time battery voltage, current, motor RPM, ESC temperature, and more to compatible AirWare™ equipped transmitters. And even with its large-scale size and feature-packed design, the DRACO 2.0m can be flight-ready in less time than it takes to charge a battery! No tools are required for field assembly/disassembly because the two-piece wing is secured with quarter-turn thumbscrews. Best of all, if you’ve mastered flying at least one or two previous RC aircraft you can fly the DRACO 2.0m successfully, especially when taking advantage of the BNF® Basic version’s exclusive AS3X® and optional-use SAFE® Select technologies. And it all adds up to offer an unmatched STOL (Short Take Off and Landing), scale and beyond flying experience unlike any other!
Are you new to flying RC (Radio Controlled) aircraft? If you are, we recommend learning to fly with one of our purpose-built trainer aircraft such as the HobbZone® Carbon Cub S 2 (www.horizonhobb.... Based on the Carbon Cub flown by Mike’s wife, Chandra Patey, it’s equipped with exclusive and innovative SAFE technology that makes it possible for almost anyone to learn to fly successfully! The Ready-To-Fly (RTF) version includes everything needed to fly in one box and is the perfect choice if you're a new RC pilot.

I haven’t seen a video on an RC plane EVER that brought out the emotions that this one has. I ordered TWO of these airplanes and I am unbelievably excited to own my own piece of Draco in Canada!
Thank you for all that you do for those of us that love Aviation ❤️
Thanks for the video and keep up the good work!
Пожалуйста подарите мне,, хочу этот самолёт, а возможности нет!!!
Your team crushed it! Mike and I can’t thank you enough for doing this plane justice. It’s meticulous!
I am often asked what my favorite plane we’ve ever owned is. Unquestionably, it’s Draco! And with that, every time I walk out in the hangar and see our RC Draco, my heart skips a beat. You brought our Draco back to life. ❤️
As a pilot who had the widow-maker and survived, I am inspired by your whole family. I won’t ever fly again but thank you for letting me live thru you.
I might add I live in Yakima, home of Cub Crafters.
@@jimhilliard8135 Military pilot? Glad you faired alright. Some pretty intense airplanes baring that status. Thanks for your comment, I’m glad you enjoy the adventures. 🤗
@@ChandraSlyFoxPatey Your family is awesome, and this of course includes Mike! He is truly an incredible guy. I have about 6 flights now on the RC Draco, been flying RC for 10 years - stuff smaller and larger than the RC Draco, but the RC Draco is uniquely special. Mike's creation lives on and is now being flown everywhere around the world. This IS the plane to fly this summer and you can bet its going to be flying a lot. Everyone at the RC clubs instantly recognizes it. Everyone knows what it is and who Mike is too!
@@michaelbackus7107 I love it! I hope everyone enjoys their r/c Dracos, that’s what it’s all about. Thank you for your comment, I appreciate the kind words.🤗
If Scrappy is not on your list of future models, then it should be!
Turbulence would be a good one as well. “Horizon Hobbies presents, Mike Patey’s collection”.
@@wedgeman3512 Million dollar idea right there!
While I'm amazed at what he's doing on Scrappy but if doing a Scrappy model takes one minute away from Mike working on Draco X then I say 'no'. :-)
RIP Draco. Can't wait to see Mike get started on Draco X.
'Back to work' -Mike Patey
Scrappy will be challenging to replicate as a model because Mike is doing an adjustable camber airfoil, I’ve never even seen a concept of that for RC before so 🤷♂️
@@ryanstreuli8667 I mean it's also a world first for aviation in general but getting a semi scale for it would be awesome
OK, i haven't flown my RC Models for years, but i think i'm back, this thing is amazing
I don't know exactly why?,, but this video was a large happy smile inside my body but Misty Eyed on my face event for me. Maybe its my nearly 50 years of aviation as a professional pilot. Or more likely my desire of cutting edge aviation development in those same exact fields that Mike Patey follows but unlike I, Mike Patey clearly without any question whatsoever has the capability and brains to actually do it and do it to the maximum in design engineering and more. At age 68, I find tears on my cheek after watching this video. I sincerely would love to have one as I do RC, but I could not fiscally justify one at this point. But I am happy for those who can purchase one and I hope they sell a million of them! Congratulations Horizon Hobby, very well done.
Mike is my idol, when I'm feeling frustrated with my projects and want to give up, I watch one of his vids, and it gives me the motivation to get back to it. What a legend.
I seen Draco at Oshkosh 2018 after watching Mikes youtube videos as he was building it now having a Draco on Order in tears because of the smile on Mikes face. Horizon Hobby echoing Mike.....YOU ROCK!!
Darn RUclips ONIONS!!
I'm 45 years old, I had a small blue RC glider when I was 15, never flew anything since... When I saw the real Draco on RUclips last year, I thought "That would be the perfect RC plane!..."
I am starting saving today for your version (Hope it reaches the UK). THANK YOU.
Who could NOT like this video? It's not every day you see Mike Patey almost cry over Draco... He put is heart into Draco and Draco saved their lives. And now we'll be able to play with a model Draco!
I don’t RC..... but you guys freaking BLEW MY MIND with this model. It’s so awesome
Love it. I am in Queensland Australia. Never flown a plane before, but Draco and Mike got me fascinated with STOL. I honestly had no idea a plane could take off and land in under 40 feet.
Mankind's ingenuity and passion to do what can be imagined makes me a kindred spirit with Mike and all like him.
God Bless him and his family for being an inspiration in this age of oppression.
I'm so glad that people like Mark & Mike exist! thanks for recognizing them Horizon.
Just amazing... I love how you guys put the same kind of detail and attention into that Mike did in Draco.
You guys really knocked it out of the park! The fact that you blew Mike away with the accuracy and detail is the only proof you need this is going to be your biggest selling RC. Now get back to work because we want Scrappy next!
I see Horizon is staying up to date with current Aviation trends. Been watching Mikes channel out of pure amazement by what he makes and his resources. Then you guys drop this with him. cool stuff. way to stay relevant guys
“You guys are complete idiots.” That’s a high compliment coming from Mike.
they F%ckin nuts. just crazy..... i'm in love with the plane and the story behind it.......
I've been studying and dreaming of buying and flying an RC plane for a while now. Covid hit and all my plans just fell apart. I can definitely appreciate and respect the passion involved in making a project like this come to fruition. Congratulations to everyone.
I'm so honored to live in the same lifetime as Mike Patey. Honestly he will be an aviation legends long after we're all gone from this earth.
I used to build Lancair Evolution aircraft and I can tell you the PT6 is no joke of a turbo prop. But on the EXPERIMENTAL side, I first hand can tell you that custom carbon structures are NOT cheap or EASY to mame. And just some of the pieces that are shown in this video, that man is a MASTER builder and fabricator. MASTER.
You can tell he has good spirits. He is probably a joy and hard to work with. A joy because he gets it done, a pain, because he expects you to be as good and you can't compare!
Awesome work!
Horizon Hobby - You have truly defined the word "Tribute." Your attention to detail and perfection is held at the highest echelon in the modeling community. Excellent execution.
Watching Mike Patey´s videos is more inspirational than anything else. Makes me wanna get my ass up and build something. I am not in aviation and never will be, but I get the fascination. The RC Draco is unbelievably accurate and will probably get some new people into RC flying as Mike got some new people into aviation. Really good work.
building and flying (crashing too) RC aircraft in the 80s as a kid, is what peaked my interest in aviation, and led me to my pilots license years later. Great job Horizon, its important to produce cool, relevant and exciting models! Lets be honest, if your an aviation buff and you haven't yet heard of Mike Patey, Draco, or even Scrappy ... now's the time. Prepare to follow his awesome youtube journey!
A BRILLIANT model and tribute to one of the greatest airplanes ever built.
You guys did one hell of a job . The look in Mike's eyes was priceless. You know you did it if Mike was blown away. Again Great Job Horizon.
I followed his videos for a while, that was such an incredible aircraft. It was a such a sad day when the Draco was lost. I will get one of these as soon as I can. I have seen the Draco fly and if this has even a tiny amount of the heart of the late Draco everyone will need to get one.
You can hear in your voice how happy and proud you are of the Horizon Hobby team and yes, thankful... 10:06 we all Mikael Patey think you rock. 🤩BB
Most companies can only dream of such a collaboration with a person like Mike Patey.
Incredible outcome!! Can't wait to see one up close!
Draco model blows Mike's mind. Mike blows my mind. AWESOME.
I have never flown R/C before. Draco makes me WANT ONE.
Mike Patey, with his unparralled genius, creativity, talent and determination, transformed the emperor of laughable geeks, the Steve Urkel (Family Matters TV Show: 1989-1997) of airplanes, the Wilga, into the Total Superhero of STOL airplanes, with an irresistible, powerful charm that will live forever. As Mike said, Draco's superpowers alone have moved some from the passion of other motorsports to an even stronger passion for aviation. Dragon power! E-Flite did the most right of things in honoring such a monumental achievement!! Long live Draco!!
So pumped you guys actually stepped out on a limb and made this. Really shows horizon has a soul and is about the community and not just pumping out models. Tons of respect and appreciation.
Amazing work guys! Thank you Mike Patey for sharing one of your amazing dreams with the world! Watching you live out your dreams is an inspiration!
Thanks Horizon Hobby for putting this plane together, with Mike's help. Mike @ 8:25 - you make the boring AMAZING - Keep up the great work. You're inspiring us all!
Boston Dynamics should make a Mike robot and offer it to the public. I think we could all use our own Mike.
Back to work 💪🏻
I can’t afford to have a Mike. I need to sleep occasionally.
@@philkearny5587 Will have to have Boston Dynamics install a sleep timer. LOL..
Haven’t even watched the video - I’m at work, but saw the notification and LIKED it on the strength of reading ‘Draco / EFlite’! I just siphoned off $75, and gonna keep siphoning off $75 at a time, until I can pull the trigger on this BEAST. Awesome job HH! This model is so scale-like and great looking, it will be just fine hanging on display! 🔥 🔥 🔥
This RC-plane will bring me back into the hobby...Thank´s a lot. Regards from Germany. (thumbs up)
I can't wait to get mine and fly it! I ordered it on announcement with in an hour of learning about it. I can't wait for Draco day April 23rd!
Incredible result from an incredible effort by Horizon Hobby. The look on Mike's face said it all. No one else has anything close to the DRACO. Fantastic 2m model but the rest of us need a 110" er for our DLE 61s. Now that would definitely make my day!
Brother.. you are a stud. Your family has your back and I love to see your son getting dirty building transmissions! Unbelievable. U rock
Genius idea from Horizon Hobby. Absolutely genius congratulations.
Excited for mine to come! So happy for Mike, and so impressed with the quality and size. Such a fantastic tribute build!
Mike Patey is amazing. Awesome plane, awesome story, but a grand is pretty steep for me even though it looks totally worth it! They took longer for the RC than Mike did for the dragon!! Makes me smile!
The PNP version is $559.99 and the BNF Basic version is $599.99. The "ULTIMATE Combo" that includes EVERYTHING needed to assembly and fly an RC DRACO if you have nothing required at all is $1199.99: horizonhobby.cc/EfliteDRACO
Ten months ago: What is this model? You have a lot of high wing models.
Now: I’m fixing to order one after watching Mike do his work on the full scale😁😁.
I can’t wait to build and maiden.
I never got to see draco in person and I'm sad I never will, but wow that is the coolest thing ever. What an icon to aviation
Draco will be back 😁
He is making one another one dracoX 10 more new features and higher power, check his channel it's gonna be sweet, scrappy is awesome too!
Can we pre-order Scrappy as well? Can't wait to see that one. If it isn't in your sights yet, it needs to be. It's going to be just as great!
My guess is Draco X should be airborne ~2023-2024 based on Mike’s work habits. Horizon is gonna have a hard time keeping up! In there defense, though, Mike is some sort of machine.
In COMPLETE agreement with you
@@InitialDsTak
I'm not sure that a machine could keep up with Mike.
But... After flying my RC Draco today I'd for sure buy a Scrappy!
I made my first flights with mine this morning and it is amazing - even after watching many flight review videos over the past week. It doesn't really sink in how good this thing is until you actually fly it. The low end of the flight envelope is crazy slow. It's like it just won't stall - it just drops the nose a little bit and keeps on flying! 😎 I was really sad that Mike lost the “real” Draco (glad no one was hurt) but it is great to see all these little baby Dracos flying around now! 🐉 👍
Love Mike! Love the plane!!!! I am one of the ones who was pulled into aviation because of Mike.
Oh oh definitely a early Christmas, birthday and Father’s Day gift for me 🥺
I started flying with the Origin Hobby Wilga. Always loved the looks of the Wilga. Will be getting this for sure.
Thank you Mike for allowing us share the passion for Draco, you picked the best in RC to bring the RC Draco to us RC'ers. Looking forward to an epic maiden with my Draco, thank you, Jeff in LA USA
The model is amazing, the person behind it and his family are even more amazing !
Mike could make a video about watching grass grow and that video would still be better then the stuff the top youtubers put out. And everyone would be screaming for more. So Im sure everyone would hang on every second of all the boring stuff. Draco is just a reflection of the person who built her. It had a unique shape and stance and look that stood out. The 747 and P 51 and other legendary air planes all had distinctive shapes and capabilities. What really impresses me is how draco looked coming in for a landing because she just hung in the air with these big arms hanging down, owning the sky. Ive always dug the wilga's.
Draco is the King of bush planes! Long live the king!
And Scrappy is the Prince, the only plane with Draco's blood inside it!
Every one who had seen Draco... would fall in love with it.
Mike patey. he made a huge change in aviation in the whole world
Well....right from the "GET-GO' I ordered this, way over here in OZ where we have never seen it live. I had to order this! Great plane-Great Team. Well done guys!
Meeting Mike Patey is on my bucket list. Hello from Canada 🍁 🇨🇦
Awesome. I’ve watched the evolution of the real Draco here on RUclips. And now to see it recreated by Horizon Hobby. Bravo. 👏👏
This plane is unforgettable once see it. But most unforgettable, when this red bird was unfortunately lost, he…the pilot and developer was very indomitable and strong. Respect.
MIKE. I watched you build DRACO from the beginning. You did amazing things and created the best. I'll be as proud as you were to own a DRACO. Every flight with a big smile 😀 thanks Mike ✌and THANKS TO E FLIGHT HORIZON HOBBIES FOR MAKING THE MODEL DRACO HAPPEN. 👍👍😎👊✌
thank you HorizonHobby's i own one .now its so cool.
Well produced video guys. Been a fan of MP for a long time. Watched the whole Draco build as he was building it. Definitely on my list to get this model...
Wow, what a superb stunning model. Draco was one of the most amazing custom aircraft I've ever seen. Mike is a brilliantly skilled designer and inventor...as are the guys who designed and built the model. LOVE IT!!!!
I had to have one, after the interdiction video I couldn't get my money out fast enough. Mike you rock, Back to work.
Nice Story and a nice Plane
You guys outdid yourselves. I could feel the pride you all felt throughout this project. Really amazing work by the Horizon team. I was doubtful at first by the price, but after seeing the many videos and reviews I ordered mine yesterday. I shouldn’t have ever doubted Horizon as I have many of their planes. I don’t know how you will top this, but I’m Looking forward to see what you awe us with next. Thanks to the Horizon team 😎
9:52 as Mike said: “to Ground loop a Draco, don’t do it“ and see the look on his bride’s face behind the model (priceless)! Fly safe!
You just got yourself a future sale! Thank you for this awesome project can’t wait to have it in my fleet!
Thank for doing this interview, making this model and sharing it. As a huge petrol head and aviation fan, seeing Mike talk strikes a chord on many fronts...how he summed up aviation compared to land/road vehicles was perfect. Wonder what Mike’s next project is going to be...inventors like him never sit still. Much like how car modders are the reason big car companies now offer a plethora of ‘add-ons’, Mike and those like him, will hopefully open up aviation in the same way Thank you HH...and thank you Mike 🙏🙏🙏
Thank you for the time you have spent and the engineering that it took to make this such a great tribute to a wonderful aircraft and Mike.
you deserve the glory .... that is a nice plane...
What an incredible model! Well done to Horizon for going the extra distance to make such an accurate model! I really hope this is successful!
I just retired and I'm getting back into RC Planes. It's sweet but to expensive for me. What an awesome plane.
I watched every video of Mike's build and have taken away so many techniques he used to glass and build and design was amazing.
I am huge into rc airplanes and have mine ordered! Absolutely amazing! Wish it had a VP prop! That would be so cool!
Thanks Mike and Horizon Hobbies!! Making work guys and gals!
Great job Horizon Hobby! Back to work!
I've been wanting an rc version of Draco since before the crash. Thats awesome!!
My Draco arrival date is 4/23 so now I can watch this video 😍😎😍 “ it’s about to get crazy “
If this video doesn’t help sell models, I don’t know what else will. Extremely well done!
I pre order mine last week I’m proper excited to see the model in person 🇬🇧🤙🏻 great work guys
The best most elegant beautiful (model) plane I ever saw 😍
Awesome plane. Both the foamy and the real one. Can't wait to see Draco 2.0 Mike. Rock on.
i must own one of these!!!! My most favorite planes of all time!!!! You guys are amazing!!!!!
I'm glad it's a converted Polish Wilga.
Wilga - Draco is already a legend. Supernova Star.
Wow guys, that is an engineering marvel in its own right. AMAZING job. I am so happy for Mike, you without a doubt made his day. Beautiful work!!
Very cool video highlighting Mike Patey and his plane DRACO. Congrats on pulling off a great RC model to memorialize his hard work. My order is in!
Watched the all the video it’s like a great documentary the guy is cool too down to earth cheers horizon hobby
Great job, Matt and David!
Soo cool!! "The monster truck of airplanes" !
I liked that reference too! 😎
Fantastic production! Coolest thing in RC at the moment! Congrats!
The plane is absolutely incredible. Im 48 amd have wanted to learn to fly a long time. When i seen this on brian phillips channel, i have to have it. Of course im gonna learn on a sport cub s2, then maybe a midsize, but i will own a rc draco, dont ever stop making it.
Great video, great story and an amazing RC airplane, guys!
This video was like watching a documentary! Extremely well done and fascinating! Great job!!
This is so cool! Congrats to all involved.
Amazing I’m buying one mike is a legend
You guys are doing great work making affordable modeling available to everyone. Thank you!
Draco lives on. So cool. So awesome, must have.
I was going to comment about Scrappy, but clearly everyone is on it. Back to work Mike! Much respect. If Horizon was really on it, there would be a Draco+ with variable props instead of just reverse rotation.
I do like STOL planes...and Draco is just so unique. Good job HH! Looks awesome!
Baby Draco! ;-)
Greetings!
Unfortunately I didn't get to see the original Draco but looking forward to seeing Draco 2.0
what a great tribute to what must be one of the world's iconic aeroplanes...it'll take a while but I'm saving up for it..can't wait for RC Scrappy ...I want both ..😎
Great Video! I bought mine before seeing this and now I like it even more :)
