Christopher - since you're acting like a HUGE spoiled brat, you can figure it out yourself.
All others - if you want immediate assistance, you're in the wrong place. I'm not super-human, and have a lot going on in my life. We try our best to keep up with the thousands and thousands of comments and questions we get, but this guy, and people like him are a huge part of why it's so hard to be a RUclipsr. Please don't be like Christopher.

First, I love your channel and videos. That being said, where you choose to fly is about the worst logistically you could pick lol. Trees, power lines and more trees, this video where you crashed was pretty much just pushing it lol. More of a good example of what not to do. Theres my Karen rant, been flying RC for 23 years. Just for the new guys that these videos are more directed towards go find yourself a real field!!! Brian you and your wife are awesome!!! Try some Flex innovations stuff if you havent yet. The Aura 8 rx/gyro is all I use in EVERY one of my plane up to 50cc, You'll never go back!
yes, true. I should have had a better angle to see what I was doing. Honestly, I was getting nervous about Megan too....which was again, totally my bad. I wanted to make sure she was behind the structure for protection, and it had be worrying. I should have got higher up and re-evaluated the lines, then I could have done it, but my visibility was not as good as it needed to be.
As for flying around trees and power lines....I've always flown in tigher-than-average quarters, and you're right - this is not ideal - but it's also, to me, very fun...but admittedly, it HAS 100% aided my high crash to flight ratio of late ;)

@@Scradley2241 No, he's showing you that HE doesn't need a big wide open area. He's also a very accomplished pilot on the sticks. I've flown a 55cc 3d 540 In a tighter space than that, doesn't mean anyone should do that lol. I honestly totally forgot I wrote this TBH, I watch Brian and Camera crew every week now. They also kind of added more area for flying too from a year or more ago.

Brian, I watch and subscribe to your videos. I think you do a great job showing and explaining to other pilots the many products that keep us informed. Your camera crew also allows us excellent views of your demos, unboxing, assembling popular models and flying with reviews.
I must admit that you are a very skilled pilot and can fly planes through their flight envelopes. I do however feel that your flying at times pushes that envelope to the extreme. An example would be flying in and around your house and your outside structures. This was proven unfortunately by your video of the Draco hitting one of those structures. You have carved out a nice runway and open airspace in front of your house and above the trees to the right and left as well the open field across the road. I am not sure why you choose to fly recklessly through the many obstacles surrounding your yard in the "bowl area". This is certainly your decision and I respect that but feel that your judgement at times has diminished good pilot judgement. Again I enjoy your videos and respect your wiliness to help others in the hobby. Fly Smart.
Will - I appreciate that you shared your concern in a very fair and reasonable way. Thank you! This is not always the case, by the way ;) We're very glad to have you watching, and hopefully enjoying our footage. We try hard to help everyone how we can.
Now, as for the rational for flying "recklessly" (behind the house, in this case). I have to admit there are times where the results speak for themselves. I obviously didn't have the positive outcome I had hoped, but less than perfect outcomes, especially those where we can share, and all learn from, do help to advance not only my piloting and risk management skills, but the skills of others who watch. Of course, I want the satisfaction of making that "impossible" landing, partially to push my skills and confidence to a new level, and to find the limit. I don't suggest others do it, and hope that's not being picked up, or "read between the lines" as I understand not everyone is in the same circumstances, or at the same skill level. Sure, we occasionally want to "spice things up" a bit, and I was guilty as charged here. I think you may have touched on this in your comment, but after all, it's my equipment and my structures to damage, so this is why I struggle to understand your concern with me risking my own stuff...
Anyway, don't want to beat a dead horse here, but also don't want you to think we're ignoring your concern (it is noted), but we'll probably just have to disagree on this one. We're allowed to disagree agreeably, and we appreciate you doing it this way! Thanks

I don't click on videos that say watch 100 crashes in 5 minutes because I'm not into destruction of any goods. Crashes are depressing but I will admit I have crashed (and repaired) every plane I have flown, about five or six planes. Watching you has helped me in the repair of all those planes. Watching your videos I was able to repair my UMX Aero Commander after I flew into a chain link fence and tore off the entire front nose and the tricycle gear. It was ready to fly in a couple of hours. My favorite plane so far. I enjoy learning, so thank you for teaching.

I was pretty annoyed with myself after the crash, pretty sure I did a terrible job of "covering up" my frustration, but after my short pity party, I said, people are watching and want to know how to fix this stuff...so I sucked it up and put this video out for everyone to point and laugh...so glad you enjoyed it and got some good out of it. After all, crashing is almost inevitable when you fly in tight spots ;)

Just found out get my new prosteses on march 22 can't wait. Been on it for a couple years had to have operation but everything is going well. Rt leg from under my knee. I have learned a lot from Brian
Thanks Shane! Glad you're getting an upgrade! I work with a man named Jim, and he said his last leg was something like $150,000 or some such thing. His is mid thigh and articulated knee and foot. He lost his leg working for a bridge building company and still works for them now! He's a cool guy, and gotta be the most positive person I've ever met!
regarding the repair in the guitar industry will use both high tech and low-tech masking tape will also use really long rubber bands that is made to wrap around a fretboard when you're gluing it to the neck substructure and that would have come in really super handy for this repair that Brian was doing
Yeah, loads of weird way to repair these foam planes, and she is flying again and love the Draco so much!!!
The only thing I like about seeing you crash is watching how you fix it. Great tips for repairs and workable for many models.

thanks! It's a bummer, but a reality of pushing the limits. I just couldn't get my eyes on everything at once. What I should have done was survey the angle of my trajectory better ahead of time, and I could have done it...but when I screw up, it's embarrassing to share, but I KNOW it helps people out...so I share these things in hopes that you guys get even a morsel of good from them ;)

AWESOME!!! You will love it, but please do make sure, when possible, glue both surfaces, and let the parts sit for a few minutes....it will feel like a lifetime waiting, but it'll make the bond almost instant!!!
I did that with my Night Timber X a few weeks ago at my local park. Done flying there after that. I would be prone to crashing straight into the vampire killing zone if I flew at your place. You handle that tight flying location very well. Glad that you got Draco repaired.👍
It was a bad decision NOT to get my line of sight more clear, but I paid for it - Glad she came back together pretty good!
Nice job Brian.. Repair looks like it went well. I remember When i repaired mine on my channel and received over 1000 hits LOL that was the best part. I agree learning to do the repairs is just a part of this hobby and your sharing repair tips are greatly appreciated.

So many people like watching us fix my embarrassing screw ups, when it would be easier on my pride to just not share the video...I was very tempted on this one, but then I remembered who I work for ;) Also, you guys already know I make lots of stupid mistakes - what's new about this video - LOL!

Thanks, and it was no biggie...I get really mad at myself when I make stupid mistakes like that though. I usually have a short pity party, then get it fixed and try to move on as fast as possible.

I don't crash much, but when I do it's usually a maiden flight. When I maiden'd my Conscendo Evolution 1.5m, I barely missed my chicken coop and hit my shop really hard, broke the nose off. Should have known not to fly at dusk, but live and learn. Repaired though and has flown many times since, Foam2Foam to the rescue. I appreciate your advice, and of course other famous characters that tell us "Don't forget to bring a towel!" :)

Nice vid Brian. The toothpicks are interesting. I usually use a low tack tape to squeeze my repairs together while the glue dries up. Then remove tape without removing paint and fly.
The paint is GREAT on the Draco, so I bet you could get away with it. I've also used packing tape BACKWARDS...all the way around, like a belt - so many details on the Draco though!
That's one heck of a job there ice man. Cool calm and collected you stay. Wish I was like that.

Can’t remember the first repair video I saw of yours Brian where you used toothpicks, but massive game changer for me in my short 2 years in the hobby. I’ve even pre toothpicked some planes before maiden to add extra strength in weak looking areas, E-Flite 64mm F-15, Arrows 50mm Viper and E-Flite 70mm Viper all spring instantly to mind. I always like to glue my toothpicks in.

Been there - done that , the internal roof cross brace is important for the structural integrity of the turtle deck. HF you were focused on camera safety and pushing limits- you know the drill 😁

That could definitely be a very bad mixup 😆 I'd imagine there's no recovering from that unless you were flying pretty high and most people don't engage flaps up that high. Glad there was something left to repair. 😁 ✌️
@@EJ-74 Correct you are. I was doing touch n goes back and forth. was up probably 75-100 ft or so. I realized what had happened at about 10 ft and reacted 2 secs after it hit 0 ft.🤦♂️😂. My switches for flaps and reverse are on opposite sides now.👍

Just found out that you can get about another 2 min flight if you turn all the lights off... better for day flights..!

Who said you can get 2 minutes of flight time by turning off the led's??? That seems a bit suspicious to me. The load of even a sophisticated LED circuit like this is nowhere near the load of the motor or servos on this plane.

Thanks Dean! I always get annoyed, and then once I get to fixing, it's like "no biggie" ...but for us, in our life right now, it's the time factor that really hurts. We've been working so hard to replace my Day Job, but seems somewhat insurmountable on months like this...blown up engine in family car, $15.5K tax bill, and maybe $75K down the tubes in the market in the last month...BUT, we'll make it...just gotta keep treading water for a few more years. Our audience is amazing, and helping me to quite literally live my dreams...but we want to be doing it full time...not part time.

Toothpicks worked well! I wonder how wood clamps would’ve worked by lightly clamping against the hard plastics surfaces.. obviously the foam would dent if you clamp it but for the plastic areas it might’ve given an “extra set of hands” while the glue set up. Your videos are always fun and entertaining! Thanks for all the time and effort you and your wife put into these!
Might work great! Foam and clamps...but there's just so much detail everywhere on this beauty!

Brian, a cool way that I use instead of putting all those tooth picks is so fill the inner area with glue, just like you did, and on the edges I put a light layer of foam safe CA, then I tight the broken area with my hand and while pushing all together, I spray a rapid glue spray that make the CA to dry in 3 seconds like a stone.
It ensures that things will not move and then of course later the inner glue will get dry
If I could get in there with hot glue on a less beautiful plane, I would, but there were so many critical structural joints I was afraid I'd get very poor bond with hot glue, and end up with complete failure after about 2 flights.
Good news though, this plane is now no compressing when I hold UNDER the canopy and press down...it's all setup and strong, but slightly flexible still, which is what I wanted and why I wasted so much time using foam-2-foam, rather than CA. CA would have been a lot easier, and would have probably been fine, with some reinforcement...but you saw how huge the break was....I don't think I would have been able to get everything pushed together in time.

My new Draco just lost its plastic elevator horn it cracked and went in on landing, lost the props, struts on one side, dented some fuse foam,,,,,,, some of the plastic is very brittle and glue blocking smooth working elevator, check yours close, and the screws too, will be making some horns out of aluminum, ole fart Jimmy

Damn , Camera crew does Scott use that last piece of T P stuck to the roll. ? Lmao 🤣 . I think there might have been one more drop of glue in that tube. 🤔 get a few large C clamps and let it sit over night. I use Gorilla glue clear.
Clear Gorilla Glue is the best for foam repairs (with or without toothpick strengthening) and so easy to clean up any excess with alcohol wipes. Once fully dry/cured always a stronger bond than the actual foam that surrounds it.
This model just had a TON of details that make the closure of that joint tricky. On a Caron Z Cub SS or similar, it would have been a BREEZE, but there's details on every side, top, and bottom!!! I wanted to TRY to preserve them somewhat...oh well, it's still flying well!!!
Howie - I've heard about how great it is, but have never actually used it. I need to try it out.
Brian, you won’t be disappointed but I realize you need short drying times for your videos and clear Gorilla Glue needs overnight to fully set up.

I've found that blue painters tape works great for pulling sections together.tape thru the plastic loop and pulled down to the land gear may have helped pin it.

Really sorry to see you damage that one - I did a similar thing with my Maule M7 which is way too big a plane for my small field but luckily the local hardware store was able to match the paint and once I had done some careful filling it was 99% back to normal. But that's the thing, living with the fact that its no longer the perfect plane it was and that just sucks...still, from the air it will look just fine..

No longer perfect planes tend to get flown harder, and more fun, I've found!
As the final step, I should tightly wrap the damaged part of the fuselage with a 2-inch wide bandage and additional grip wrap it with duct tape. Leave it that way until the glue is completely dry.

I was singing the song FLIRTING WITH DISASTER in the back of my mind and SMASH into the chicken coop. 😆 I can't say anything I would have crashed way before that 😂 Especially messing around in that tight area. Glad the damage wasn't to awfully bad.

Yeah, it was well deserved, but mostly, I couldn't get my visibility right, and I was honestly worried about where Megan was, so I was pretty distracted. I should have used better judgment, but I wanted to show just how crazy capable this plane was. It was, but I wasn't - LOL
bummer about your Draco but good job fixing it! if you need a good paint match to touch up some spots, I heard the Americana True Red acrylic paint is an almost perfect match, I grabbed a bottle just in case I may need it as well 😉

We filmed before, in between, and after...watch HOPEFULLY tomorrow; then we heard 7+ people got killed in these storms we were filming in! Next day, we spend Sunday chainsawing up 15 tons of trees for a friend and their folks with their significant damage...but there was WAY worse just a few miles away - Totally Leveled whole areas! You could see the damage path jump from one side of the bypass (think full width interstate), and it was amazing. Very devastating, but still somewhat sparse. My folks house that was totaled in a Tornado about 15+ years ago was ALMOST hit again yesterday!!!! Hit less than 1/2 mile away AGAIN!!!
...oh yeah, we're fine. We only lost one wind sock. Found it this morning, and have it up, sorta fixed already.

Some weight (like a stack of books) on the top of the center wing/cabin top would have compressed that pillar into place and held it in compression until the glue fully cured. Using a weight on top would also have compressed the gap at the top of the windshield curve under the wing. You pushed on it with your hand several times and saw the gap close. A weight would have done the same thing without having to push on it forever while the glue cured. Also, a woodworking clamp across from side to side would have held the plastic wing root facing (where the plug is) in compression so the glue has a chance to set in proper position.
I wonder also why you don't opt to use foam-safe CA glue on those fine cracks? You could apply the CA, press it together and instantly create a bond without glue oozing out everywhere. I understand using foam-to-foam in those areas that need some gap-filling capability, but I would have used CA on the side fuselage crack for sure.

Yes, true, but those big long huge to small cracks are real hard to get glued with CA, since it's hard to get that long of a seam closed up in one "gluing". Also, the China Glue (like Mucilage / Foam to Foam) will closer match a factory glue joint, if you can get the gap to close up...and that's a big IF in my case. I didn't want to use the book method, but would have worked, if I didn't have 20 small details I was trying to preserve :( Oh well, still got her done ;)
I use a wide Velcro belt - (Brian you may have one for your Paramotor wing), and fasten it around areas like this sometimes with foam protecting blocks as well if needed🙂
Weghting rounded surfaces is a great use of old model magazines. The magazines curve to fit a mildly irregular surface and by stacking them you can put just enough pressure on things to hold them together and not crush the details. Just saying, and speaking from "experience" ;) Good work on the repair Bryan. Us armchair watchers will always have "suggestions". Usine toothpicks to pin things together is cool, hadn't thought of that before.
I went with the Maule M7 ,Way better looking in my opinion. And it went together so easily it was incredible. Even the wings screwed on with no effect at all. Drayco is a cool plane but I'd rather see a Scrappy . Now that's cool 😎 looking.

Just watched your video, I've been flying for 6 years and have done many repairs my self but I got a few good tips from you that I may use in the future, I do want to bring up a point after you apply glue I would have used either rubber bands or bungee cords or something to that effect to pull everything together and let dry that being said, I hope it may help you in the future. I just bought a draco yesterday and I love the plane I'm setting it up now.

Brian, would it be good to use that wrapping film for packages. It sticks to itself but not to what is wrapped. You can twist and stretch in crevices and curves.
As usual an always stellar and helpful video. Wondering if you have tried or considered the small, cheap portable steamers that have the flexible hoses and a multitude of tips as opposed to the brute force of hot to boiling water for some of those foam crash insults? Not my idea, but saw somewhere it mentioned by another RC pilot who swears by the technique.
I haven't, but have seen others use them. They look nice, but I wonder if they'd produce enough heat?

gosh dog it---- I am perfectly fine with my aeroscout, turbo timber evo, and night timber but i cant help watching vids on the draco--- how is flying now after repairs- would you still recommend it? Any chance you have any recommendations for upgrading landing gear/tires ....not sure I like the weight of the Du-bro but would love some squish tires to absorb my rougher landings
Brian, I used to fly for years and then I got out of it for 7 years. I now have my renewed interest in this hobby and dug out my good old balsa Eflite Extra as well as recently building a Horizon Hobby Eflite Leader 480 using some components I had in my surplus box. I am also using my good old Airtronics radio and receivers but would like to upgrade. I am stumped whether to go with the NX6 or the NX8 version. I am also considering this Draco but for the money I could get the new version of the Extra and the Timber, two planes instead of one. Any thoughts to help sway me one way or another. Also, I love where you live now on that property, can you tell us what state this is with the corn fields, etc. We travel a lot in our motorhome and I have my thoughts but would like to know, thanks for the vids and all your knowledge in this hobby.
You may not want to dig in with the Draco anyway. I'd seriously consider the NX8...or you'll be chasing technology with the NX6 - I guarantee you'll outgrow it quickly. Not that it's bad at all...it's GREAT, but the extra channels, and the Right Knob will be valuable to you, especially since you're coming BACK. You will be up to speed quicker than you can imagine, and flying better than me in almost no time.
Tx bit.ly/3f4JhZl - Get the NX8, but one without the Rx...unless you want to upgrade one of your old planes with that "included" option. Just keep in mind, this included Rx doesn't have AS3X/SAFE (if you want stabilization or auto-leveling)
hour late doller short. But I use small carbon fiber rods to do this kind of repair. You did very well and great idea for those that do not have access to a hobby shop close by.
That was a great flying brain I really like it I’m sorry that you crashed that’s sad I mean the one thing is that I don’t you should fly it in your backyard cause It has more stuff there So That’s why it crashed so it’s better that you fly it that has a a lot of space and runway so it would not class. So, when and if I clear out for room for more, I usually just build a bigger building - LOL - but seriously, we've sold off a couple here and there. Usually, just to local guys who help to support us (AKA, put up with our insane schedule due to the RUclips channel, and still show up to fly once in a while - it's more of an issue than one might appreciate without having been around us much)

She is very patient with your antics ;-) I was an RC Sailboat and Plane guy back in the day when radio's went from FM to PCM and planes were starting to go from Gas to Electric (20yrs ago...). I just re-entered this year with a Conscendo and a Spectrum Nx8 (for expansion capability to larger planes). Always loved gliders as I live on the CA Coast and the bluffs are great for that. BUT, I want to start dabbling in electric planes and the cost for new is a bit pricy.... I learned long ago that if you fly them, you need to know how to rebuild them ;-)... I will try ebay and Craigslist to find planes to practice on before buying new.... AGAIN, Thanks for the response and the great video's!

Would this equipment become novice-friendly by adding Landing Assistance Sensor (LAS) and SAFE-Plus (Virtual Fence, etc.)?
I don't believe you can add the LAS, and I don't suggest it for anyone. GPS fencing is not an option, and I too don't suggest it, even if it WERE an option.
I talked about this quite a bit in the Carbon Cub S2 (Gold and Silver one)...

Rubber bands! Across the top and down to the LG till the glue cures. I'm a day late but had to put my two cents in. Good Vid!
Also noticed, I think the left wheel (?) was wobbling and leaning inward?
The wheels DO tend to ream out a bit, similar to the Timber, but this can be fixed with brass bushings, or even better, pneumatic tires, if you so wish ;)
As for the rubber band idea - thanks, and on normal, less detailed planes, that would be GREAT! Problem on the Draco, is it's just so dang detailed!!!! If you ran rubber bands down the side, you'd have to make sure to put some cardboard or foam under the bands to stop them from marking up you sides...there's a cool rib design up and down the length of the fuse ;)
@@BrianPhillipsRC Bearings, put them on all my planes, hate the rattling sound they make even when not worn, and a smoother roll.
And I figured you would think of cushioning between the rubber and the fus. if you did it!
Hey Brian how do you do you keep plane level when u turn rather than tipping plane with aeilerons and pulling up on elevator to makw turn...I wanna learn the flat turn....Maybe in video when u fly u could say what controls ur pushing on draco...U turn and it looks like u don't barely use aelierons...i was wondering how u do that
Use your rudder OPPOSITE the ailerons, and you'll achieve a flatter turn, but flyer be ware, you can get into a flat spin, and stall out, if you're too sharp.
Get some altitude and give it a shot - it's like opposite of coordinating your turns ;)
After repairing foam planes like this I like to go to Home Depot and buy house paint Computer color matched to the color of the plane and then repaint areas. Go with the latex paint
Awesome repair tips Brian! Will a hair dryer/heat gun work in the foam? I use large rubber bands to help hold freshly glued parts. In your case it would've worked perfectly. Glad the tornadoes missed you guys especially your parents!
Hair dryers are usually not hot enough, but I've heard of guys using STEAM CLEANERS. I don't think we have on, but I bet you could use an IRON...with a steam feature the same way.
On UNPAINTED foam, the hot water trick works best...painted and it's more of a pain, and harder to get looking right, without almost certain re-paint job :(
As for the Tornadoes - yeah, we were fortunate to be out of the damage path, but here in the Midwest, you never really know!!!

Get the Eflite Turbo Timber Evolution. Master flying it without safe and you can advance your skills enough to have this model as your second plane.
Just get the Draco, it is easier to fly. I have the CZ C 150T and the Draco. They’re the easiest 2 planes I have to fly. Easier than than the TT EVO and carbon cub s2. CZ C 150T Is my favorite to fly.

Hey Brian, I have a hard time clipping in the wings and an even harder time unclipping the wings. I've not seen anything about this in any of your Draco videos. If you have this problem could you give me any tips or tricks to help me out. Thank you.
I only had this after I whacked the chicken coup - they've been great, but now the OTHER wing is a bit out of alignment, (the CF Win Joiners) and that's contributing to this issue.

Unfortunately am a bad pilot i saw this buitiful piece in person wath a nice big nice looking Drako I crash so many times so I just get so frustrated and brake n pieces and toss all my rc planes to the trash am i don't like drones i love rc but never get to land the right way so am going to try different sports but i love to watch your videos keep them coming
If you get easier planes, maybe you can enjoy it more, and experience less crashes?

I don't think I've had a huge issue with it, but the wheels do get a bit reamed out, as with the Timber for example.
Hey man, I actually just crashed my draco, but am wondering, I hit a power line (those biggest ones really high up), and my Draco crashed into the floor I’m actually very lucky not that bad but there are now white patches all over it, would red Acrylic paint be the best to paint over those patches with a paint brush? Also I subscribed and liked the vid. Thanks
Tough call. Depends on how smooth you get it. I would just paint it with a small brush, but I'm lazy - some guys get CRAZY with airbrush and all sorts of color matching and the like.

Question for you if you don’t mind: My Timber X pitches up dramatically, both in Safe mode but also in AS3X mode. This is happening as soon as it give 3/4 to 1/1 throttle. The pitch is so steep, that I have to get a full elevator down to counter it. Clearly this is wrong but I don’t know how to fix it. I double/triple checked all the settings, including that the elevator is set correctly. Any idea where you could be?
Is your elevator pushed in all the way??? CLICKED IN??? There's been some grumblings that the elevator has popped out on some guys...not a problem I've run into, except when I was doing a goofy visual during my maiden...showing how we used to test the power on a gas plane from the 90's...then the elevator and horizontal stab popped out!!!
If that's NOT your issue, check and see if you can replicate this with the throttle cut ON....so the motor can be ignored and see if the elevator is mixed in for some crazy reason.
Also, you're 100% sure you're turning OFF SAFE??? - If you're even a little in doubt, triple check. 1) DOUBLE servo dance at startup, 2) When you turn it OFF you don't see "auto-leveling" on the ailerons when you put her on her back... If you don't have SAFE off, but THINK you do, it will do like you described.
If you're still having issues, you can go into MIXES, and verify you don't have a mix in there you didn't realize was there.
Also, there's a setting in FORWARD PROGRAMMING, but I NEVER use it...Throttle to Elevator - make sure it's OFF ( I can't walk you to this setting, since I've only seen it a couple times, and I don't use this setting)

I'm having trouble with my wifi setup on my NX6 I got today... I registered it I thought I did after I got done registering it I powered off the transmitter and it still said please register your nx6.... Also when I set up my Wi-Fi it does not work the screen freezes on thumbs twiddling and I have to shut the transmitter off to do it again and it does the same stuff what could be wrong

One thing to try - get online on your computer, and see if you're account shows the Tx...you can check it at spektrum.com (not HorizonHobby.com - I sometimes go there on accident)

It's been a bit, but I thought she was flying about 50% or so, out of flaps. The Leading Edge Slats help, even without flaps, but she is NOT light.
