It's like car guys....just with airplanes.
100%
I think this is the airplane version of off road vehicles.
I would say more like moto guys. The skills it takes to control those planes in those scenarios, reminds me more of hard enduro riders.
except with skill lol
I never realized how planes can be this cool and casual. I mean i go ride a motorcycle to relax/get thrilled and see places, you guys are doing the same riding freakin air planes! Its so next level, love it and wish I could afford it
Ah, but you can! Please go get your license! If not your PPL (Private Pilot License) then your Sport or Recreation license. They cost about half as much as a PPL course and have limitations to where and when you can fly; but as the FAA continues to develop their definitions of what a Light-Sport Aircraft is, the door for cheaper flying opens wider. There is a huge shortage of pilots in Commercial and General Aviation fields. If you have a passion for it, please go take a discovery flight at your local FBO.
Me too man
Exactly!
It has me cooking my Marbles .... (PPL) could be on that horizon ~
This is exactly what got me on looking for the PPL threads. Certainly a wish list, could do so with a few lessons. Maybe someday youtube would have it's own certified aviation courses, with AI instructors :)
Jaronce Clavet Totally opened my eyes too.
I'm an airline pilot..It's easy to forget what got us in the air in the first place. This video made my day mate. Thx for that ;)
I've been a pilot for 40 years and that was the best plane parking EVER!!
Hey, isn't it just like the airline pilots do, whip the 747 around, reverse the thrusters and back up to the ramp! ;^)
What is the full speed of this kind of aircraft?
@@democracyforall i heard in previous video its 180mh up high and 150 down lower altitude
@@MrGaryGG48 First of all, the 747 DOES HAVE reverse thrust capabilites, but their steering is limited, as they need a pushback tug. Also the brakes and the momentum that the 747 has, would most likely cause it to crash and create severe structural damage.
@@dylangregory5186 Dude... It was a joke...
DRACO in backing into the hangar was the most "Drop the mic" moment i have seen in aviation.
i was like WHAT?!
Seriously, he just gets out and is like, "What? I've got a backup camera."
Bwah HA ha haaaa!
I love it especially the short takeoff n short landing
"DRACO in backing into the hangar was the most "Drop the mic" moment i have seen in aviation."
I can relate to that. In 1969 when I was dropped off in Vietnam by a C-123 at Dau Tieng Base Camp on the dirt runway, he left and an OV-10 landed. The OV-10 taxied in front of me, then backed into a parking spot. I thought, "What the Hell"??? I've loved turboprops ever since.
Beta is wonderful
I tell you, after watching bush planes an being amazed by them for many years, it prompted me to really get into aviation, an finally got into paramotoring at a late age (I'm 44 now), an it's the BEST feeling in the world. Just you, a lawn chair, 4k+ feet, an a giant fan on your back. So relaxing an fun.
"Keep your power up, bail it off the backside and you'll start flying on the way down" has GOT to be the most bad-ass pilot quote I have ever heard.
Smart Flying makes flying fun! I was a US Army Ranger with the 101st ABN Div. 327th INF. Recon.
We jumped out of anything that would fly!
I have been in two helicopter crashes, and in a C-119 flying box-car (flying coffen) that just regained power the last few critical seconds before crashing.
Above our Mess-hall door was a sign that said:
"The Sky, even more than the sea, is most unforgiving for even the slightest mistake."
You pilots know how to keep it safe! Bless you, and thank you for sharing all that you do!
Mike is such an inspirational character. After finding out about him through your (Trent) videos, I went over to his channel and watched every single build video he had made, absolutely incredible. I had to know more, so I did some research into Mike himself. A truly self made man, the American dream, a “hero” if you will. Not only did his build videos and your positive attitude and enjoyment of flying motivate me to start working on my own mechanical projects (1970 Camaro 383 touring car), but his success in spite of personal adversity inspired me to overcome my own shortcomings. Thank you to the both of you. I grew up without a dad, but men like you two give me role models and goals that make me a better man. Thanks guys.

comments like these make me glad I scroll the comments section on these videos every time
Very nice comment Baychevy! Its nice to see positive caring people out there! I felt some of the same feelings while watching Trent's and Mikes vids. My father used to take me and my sister flying with him in a little Cesena until he left us when I was 9yrs old. I still love airplanes but I never did get my license to fly them unfortunately. I run across Trent's videos a few weeks back and I'm so glad I did, I now stop in almost daily just for the smile, inspiration and breath of fresh air I get from watching these videos and the nice guys here! Keep working on that Camaro! Have a nice day!
@@themotorsportarchives, yup... I just wanted to thank him for wanting to go for more in life rather than letting himself become an addition to statistic of people coming out of a single parent household and blaming the world for all his shortcomings...
Wish you all the luck @baychevy
That reverse into the hanger was so badass! Mike really is at the top of the game with that plane. Damn!
Needs 3 Seconds to leave the ground!!! 5:16 🤯🤯🤯 Airplane thinks it’s a Helicopter 🚁🚁🚁
Wait...WHAT???? Whips around and BACKS into the hangar? With a private jet already in there? I'm dead.
show me
Okay, backing Draco into the hanger got the thumbs up +1.
Ok, Mike talking about pilot technique, and you talking about density altitude was fantastic.... please keep adding educational stuff like this in your videos because it's awesome!
15:20 this guy park his plane better and faster then i do my car... xD
Lol. An airplane w/ reverse. Ha.
@@christopherpeters5916 most turboprops can reverse on their own power
This is hands down one of my favourite videos you’ve done Trent. I have watched it so many times and it never gets old. A simple video of the boys having a good time.
The aviators of RUclips have reignited my childhood passion for planes. Always wanted to be a pilot, just never had the opportunity, someday. Great videos Trent!!
Get your license! It’s not as bad as it seems. I got mine last year. I’m not trying to shamelessly plug my channel... we are small, but check out what we do with our new plane! Get yours and start a channel! So much fun!
Never had opportunity? Opportunity is always out there. Just do it.
You have options! If you do not wish to pursue a career in Aviation as a Commercial Pilot, you should look into your Recreation or Sport licenses. They have more limitations to keep you safe, but can always be upgraded to a PPL and beyond down the road if you so chose. They cost about half the price of a traditional Private Pilot License. Go get a discovery flight! It is never too late!
Go for it!
Mike Patey you are genius your Wilga is a piece of art just a fun plane you made for yoursef backing up in your hanger and your smile is contagious keep smiling and stay safe you have beautiful family to look after
15:35 AWESOME Parking job! Put that backup cam to use Mark!
Wow, great video! The ending of Mike backing DRACO into the hanger... 😱😱😱 the guy has the skills and is not afraid to use them.
Please keep the videos coming! Play safe and take care, Bill in Utah
I know absolutely nothing about planes, but this was an amazing video!! You guys are living the dream for sure...👍🏻
Love the music, incredible personalities, amazing men and machines. Thank you so much for all the work you put into these videos.
So amazingly wild and cool...but Mikes park job at the end was so great. Still laughing and clapping. Thanks guys.
Thank you very much gentlemen!!! Awesome flying...fantastic locations.
That turboprop has one hell of an unholy noise, sheer aeronautical epicness!
Love your aircraft DRACO. No need for long runway, really like the suspension. And custom wings.
Still one of the best videos on youtube.
I'm not a pilot but I can see why you guys are. Way too much fun and you make it look easy. Great vid.
Love the aerials of Draco's take-offs. Well done!
You guys are a real inspiration to all Bush pilots around the world.
Mike is one hell of an avionic engineer and his plane is absolutely amazing. I love all the glass in the aircraft and the modern avionics, O2 and horsepower is just so unique.
Keep up the fantastic work gentlemen !!
Mike isn't only an incredible pilot, but an amazing innovator! Great video!!
this is the only reason I have ever found to want to fly a plane. This looks fun! just flying has no appeal to me but flying from spot to spot and hanging out with my buds at each stop looks like a riot! Love yall's video! Looks like yall are having a great time.
Having watched the Draco build, it was great to see it perform its mission. Thanks, Mike and the Cowboys!
Nancy Keller same here next I want to fly
It seems to be just great to be able to fly around and land/takeoff almost anywhere. Keep these videos coming. Thank you.
My favorite part was Mike backing it into the hangar!
Trent that was one of your best videos. Better than TV. Makes me want to go buy a Bush plane. Those Patey Brothers are amazing! DRACO is amazing to watch. Makes you wonder what you will see next. Thanks so much!
I agree, the Patey brothers are amazing. Even if they did not have planes or a bussiness, they seem like awesome humans. The only thing is it makes me wonder: what have done with my life? Why couldn't I do stuff like that?
Jim Biller . Well said Jim. What have we all been doing? If the Patey Brothers don't inspire you nothing will.
Plenty of Bush Planes for sale on wingswap.com! :)
The Pateys built draco?
Put a smile on my face just watching! Great job on the vid/editing/drone work and explanation on air density. New sub! 🙌🏻
SENSE OF ADVENTURE AND FREEDOM IS AWESOME!
Been dreaming of this since I was a child, now I'm watching it. Hope next time I'm the one holding that yoke. So nice to watch my dream enjoyed by others. The air is your playground.
Grew up in Alaska in the 70's Step dad had a cub and a 185 both STOL. We flew to get somewhere, never to just to fly. Kind of cool...
What an awesome country for aviation
I”VE been a school bus driver/janitor for most of my working career. I’ll never have the money you guys have. but I sure do enjoy the videos you make and share with everybody. Keep on having fun and spending your money; it is what makes the world go around.
Draco for a superbowl half-time in-stadium landing, and take off!
DragonstarFighter too bad it wont be able to
The stadium is too small
The plane could easily crash and the Draco wont gain enough speed to make it over during takeoff
The plane will gain too much speed from landing because the plane would have to descend so much and it could hit the audience
Just imagining that is awesome
I get to watch people do what i can only dream of, Drako rocks man. Ive gotten to run engines on C-5A, and C141-B cargo aircraft and that made my hairs stand up. Cant imagine what it would be like to go on a cowboy trip!
God I hated jumps on the 141...loud noisy smelled bad going to Saudi in them sucked ASS
The DRACO is an amazing Bush plane. I just love it.
Sadly draco died today.
If I hadn't seen this video I would never have believed the things you did were possible and so lovely to see and sort of experience places I will never experience myself. Just wonderful, thank you everyone. Best wishes from England,
Excellent video. Great enthusiasm for both your crafts. Pure Zen.
“bail it off the backside and you’ll start flying on the way down” 😂😂😂😂
sikmik77 my favorite line!!
sikmik77 Thiers a runway in Kentucky like that it’s nice blacktop. Spring creek airport. Albany ky. Drops one thousand feet off south end of runway
Shows to be closed
Im in love with Draco
Santiago Tenreiro same
@chris mclaughlin it kind of has this issue of being significantly overpowered. Like a built car. Both cost more to get and keep moving
So I’m getting back into experimental flying after several years & a big loss (due to flying) in our family and started watching you videos & you got me so pumped to get back in the air! The plane is bought & ready to go, I just need some good weather & getting the family to get behind me & enjoy flying again. Your vids are inspiring brother. Glad I found ya. Lol
Fantastic airplanes, great guys, awesome visuals and production, I enjoyed this IMMENSELY! Thanks for sharing!!!
One of your best trips!!! Awesome shots!!!
So sad when Draco lost the fight with the wind. Scrappy will be a total aviation trip though, I have no doubt. When Draco X takes flight, I think it’s going to be an even bigger game changer than the original. Can’t wait!!😬
Ya I can’t wait either! It’s gonna be great
The scenery at 7:35 is surreal....You have captured this so beautifully.
Awesome footage, editing, music and experience above anything else!
RIP to the Draco. It's been month since it crashed and I'm still heartbroken over it. I loved following this planes adventures.
Scrappy Soon TM
That was a fun day. Flying Cowboys Forever!
Cory Robin You’re also an inspiration. Thanks to you guys, I made the decision to get back into GA. Beautiful Carbon(!!) but I’ve decided to go #TeamKitfox 🤟
Chris, the Kitfox is an amazing aircraft! You’re going to LOVE❤️ it!
Right on! Let me know how it goes.
👍🤠
Cory Robin Will do for sure!
Cory Robin o
Robert Donahue O is right! 💥👍🤠
I love driving, motors, and exploring. I’ve always said you have the most fun in a plane. Might have to go buy a bush plane one day... or find one.. ? That Draco is sick!
I was 20, in the Marines and had a chance to get my PPL affordably, so I jumped on it. 13 hrs in, my instructor was xfered out and I got distracted with a lot of other things. I'm 56 and just got the biggest smile on my face ever watching these last two vids. Thanks Trent, I'm going to finish what I started 36 years ago. Passion never dies, no regrets! Oh, and when I get it all together, I'm going to look for the DRACO and offer an offer he can't refuse!
Rod Stewart said it best in a song. "I wish I knew then, what I know now, when I was younger". I'd be doing what these guys are doing.
Yeahhhh... what was that 40 feet...off the ground...I love it!!!
The reverse parking wow!!! Amazing. Beautiful video. Thank you.
Watching drayco fly and reverse is just brilliant. So so cool
Great flying ! Fun to watch!
I couldn’t help but laugh when whoever told mike to punch it and draco just walked away from the pack
Well done. Nice addition of some technical pieces (density altitude) that added to the story..
Awesome job as usual.

Love your videos Trent!! Makes me want to get back into flying again. I earned my PPL back in 82. Did my 1st bi-annual in 84. Joined the Navy in 85, spent 7 years there and haven't been current ever sense. Life took over. LOL!
Love it, need some buddy’s like that, with their own planes, cash, and free time👊🏻👏🏻😎
Epic episode the time just flew by could have watched another 1/2 hour.
Everything about this is great. The synergy with your plane, knowing all its ins and outs, the skills, the flying with friends, the ultimate freedom and seeing the beautiful American plains. Yet, as a 6ft6 guy from the tiny place of the Netherlands the chances of ever coming close to this dream are very slim, guess I'll invest in FPV drones
Y’all are awesome looks like y’all had a great time great flying guys!!
You got my 👍🏼👍🏼 😁 AWESOME video Trent!!
What a sick plane! I think I’ve watched every video about!
You guys are blessed. Thanks for sharing
A long time ago, about 1980 when ultralights were a new thing, I was crewing at a very small alternative music festival in Suffolk, England. Walking across a wide open space in the carparking field, i heard a noise of engines behind me, turned and saw six ultralights, fixed-wing or delta-wing types, coming in and landing near me.
To my amazement, the guys stepping out were in jeans and black leather motorcycle jackets. I asked who they were, and there said, "We're a motorcycle club from the Colchester area (Essex), and we suddenly realised these things are flying motorcycles. And you don't even need a license to fly them!"
They walked over to the festival stage (having bypassed the ticket gate!), watched a couple of bands, had a beer and flew off again.
The funny thing is, though flying bikers is an amazing idea, no-one else I ask in England has ever seen or heard of these guys, and I never saw them again.
I can only imagine what it's like to be able to live a life like this. I wish I would of had better luck in life. Having Ankylosing Spondylitis and poverty makes it tuff. No tools in the toolbox to build a happy life but still fighting. Happy and envious for you guys. Love the parking job at the end.
Wild beta-thrust ending to a wild wing-rockin' bush tour!
Some Polish Wilga's history (sorry for translation).
Versions
:
• Wilga 35A - basic version designed for aeroclubs, equipped with a hook for towing gliders, manufactured since 1968.
• Wilga 35H - version of a seaplane on floats, created in Polish-Canadian cooperation, flown on October 31, 1979 (in Canada).
• Wilga 35P - the flown version flown in 1968 differs from the 35A version only by the lack of a towing hitch. Aircraft of this type are used by Polish military airforce.
• Wilga 35R - agricultural version flown in 1978 taking 300 liters of chemicals.
• Wilga 35S - sanitary version flown in 1968. One aircraft was created for Polish sanitary aviation.
• Wilga 40 - modified version of the Wilga 35 flown in 1969 (it had moving slats and a plate tail). Only 2 prototypes were created.
• Wilga 80 - adjusted to American regulations (FAR), serial version from 1979 equipped with PZL AI-14RA engine.
• Wilga 80/1400 (80H) - a 1982 float version driven by the PZL AI-14RD engine with a power of 206 kW (280 HP).
• Wilga 88 - development version developed from 1983 to the end of the 1980s.
The main task of the designers was to improve the speed characteristics of the aircraft. This was planned to be achieved by effectively reducing the aerodynamic drag. A new lightweight flap without a slot was used, with a light, single brace and a thoroughly modified chassis. From the previous models, Wilga differed, among other things, the number of passengers increased to 5. For this reason, the fuselage was changed. In general, it was a structure so far removed from the Wilga plane that it was called the new Flaming structure. The first prototype was flown on November 9, 1989, the flight test was carried out by the first pilot class mgr inż. Jerzy Jędrzejewski. A total of three machines were created: two prototypes with M-14P and AI-14RDP engines (its license version) and PZL-105L with Textron Lycoming IO-720 engine with 295 kW (400 HP), which was to give rise to the export version. It also assumed the production of a sports version, passenger-passenger version (for 4-5 passengers or 450 kg of cargo), agricultural (with a tank for 500 kg of chemicals) and patrol, sanitary and geological. The main problem of the prototype during the flights was improper stall characteristics, which did not allow the aircraft to be used. The financial problems of the PZL factory in Okecie as well as the priority production of the PZL-130 Orlik ordered by the army, caused the Wilga development project to be suspended, stopping at the production of the Wilga 2000 aircraft.
• PZL-104M Wilga 2000 - version with the Lycoming boxer engine, modified wing (including the removed slot above the fuselage) and improved aerodynamics, produced since 1998, used by aeroclubs.
• PZL-104MF Wilga 2000 - patrol version for the Border Guard.
• PZL-104MN Wilga 2000 - version from 2001.
• PZL-104MW Wilga 2000 Hydro - float type variant Wilga 2000 flown on September 19, 1999.
• PZL-104MA Wilga 2000 - the version was created in 2005 in cooperation with EADS. More streamlined engine bonnet, elongated shaft and three-blade propeller. Attention is also paid to the fin in front of the vertical stabilizer and winglet. The distribution of instruments inside the cabin was also changed and avionics enriched. These changes resulted in improved flight characteristics (speed, range), with deterioration of STOL features and slightly greater noise than the drive unit.
I am glad that you are delighted with this plane. This is probably the legend of Polish aviation. :* :* :*
Wow. Absolutely amazing. This is what aviation was meant to be. Commercial aviation is a living hell. I envy you a lot. You are blessed
That’s badass man. Most people take they’re motorcycles out and rzr’s and do stuff like that and you guys do it with planes. Mad props for you guys and the adventures you guys do
He just did that right? Draco and owner Mike are beyond cool. Not the usual aviation video we see Trent. SUPER good quality content. Aviation from a different perspective, beautifully captured. New sub.
I know it's been a bit but bumping into this youtube, again, made me think of the phrase, "the good old days." Extrordinary flying that "made" the Flying Cowboys and the end with Mike's perfect parking! I loved seeing Cory being Cory.
Miss the old days, glad I bumped into this video again - you guys are very entertaining and a "real" way. THANKS, again
Awesome, fun to watch. Thanks Trent. Love Draco.
YES, Scott should start vlogging!
You guy's are really living. I never knew any of this existed........Truly awesome!
wide awake truly badass
Trent, that was a fantastic video! Thanks to you and your team.
Draco is the first plane I would want to own. I would enjoy this type of flying over any that I have done in the past. Thanks for sharing.
Being in a position to be able to do this kind of thing, the freedom, friends etc, would probably stop me from wishing I was dead. Fair play to you guys.
Wow Pink lake and salt island. Looks like different planet. Draco is a wonderful plane and beautifully engineered. But it doesn't mean that yours and other planes are any less. Cheers
for the price of it you can get something way better tho.
Great video. Great content. Smiled almost the entire video. Seems like it doesn’t really matter what you do, hanging out with folks with the same passions, really is the best. Loved it
Really cool video! Love the 200FT landing and watching the Draco take off in 100FT. Looks like a really fun plane. ✈️
Geez! That draco plane took off quick! 100ft WOW!
Well I'm a stage 4 cancer survivor. Finally healthy enough to work on my passion. I'm working on getting my helicopters pilots license. Anyways I love your videos, can't wait to see y'alls next adventure.
cancer has me looking at my life in new set of eyes....... I'm building a ultra light
Congrats man im glad you made it through the dark times, and are in the light now
best of luck man heres looking forward and up. not backwards and down
Blue skies and tailwinds to you my friend.
lol , you think youre special ?
Great video, I don’t like flying myself, but I am enjoying these videos.
Mike
Super show! This is beautiful! Thank you very much!
This is a great video. Love, love loved it. The draco is - off the charts amazing
Who else imagined hearing a truck beeping noise when Draco was backing into the hangar?
Yup, he needs a reversing beep... Gonna have to be a loud one though!
Jesse McCree lol...the flying Ferrari with a back up beeper...
I did. GOtta get one Mike.
methinks the sound was the circuit to notify of stall.
I’m still confused on how he backed up
15:14 this guy rolls in that Draco to the hangar, turns it and then throws it into reverse and tucks it in the hangar! O.o
Gaping mouth - utter silence!!!!
Mind = blown!!
Ultra cooooooool group . Stay safe but on the edge!!!
I’ve never smiled this much for ages. Living the dream!
Wilga is one of best small STOL planes ever... PZL really did a nice job on unofficial follow up to pre ww2 RWD planes
Really like ya music choice Trent - keep it comin.
