  • Ukraine is preparing for renewed Russian assaults along its frontline. That's according to a report from the UK's defense ministry.
Fortifications likely include anti-tank obstacles, trenches and minefields. The report says Ukraine's stalled counter offensive last year has forced its military onto a more defensive footing. Kupiansk - in the Kharkiv region - was occupied in the first days of the full-scale invasion. But it was recaptured by Ukrainian forces after almost six months. DW visited the town to see how residents are preparing for the threat of a renewed Russian invasion.
For more on this, we talk to Frank Ledwidge. He is a former military officer and a senior lecturer in war studies at Portsmouth University in the UK.
And we talk to DW's Eastern Europe editor, Roman Goncharenko.

Even though the US isn't providing as much artillery shells right now as they did before, luckily Czechia came with an international initiative to buy shells for Ukraine. That would amount to multiple months of shells, and is expected to be delivered to Ukraine somewhere around the end of march. But in the meantime, especially Europe needs to step it up. We can do so much more than we are doing right now...

You’re a very confused individual. That or indoctrinated by the Kremlin. All ex soviet and Warsaw Pact countries have moved westward for the same 2 reasons. A more prosperous life outside the oppressive sphere of influence of the Kremlin and SECURITY FROM RUSSIA. Let that last one sink in. Apart from Belarus, which putin only held onto via employing his military to put down the population, the Putin has found nobody willing to rebuild the USSR he longs for so much.
Now ask yourself. Does Ukraine hold the right to govern itself. Makes decisions for itself? Or it’s place in this world to be a Kremlin puppet?
Hint: there is only one correct and moral answer to this. You’re advocating the contrary. This is embarrassing for you.
      Cheers 👍

Western Drip feed and political will, not matched by corporate business investment failure. The conditions while E.U governments bicker and US policy makers delay , even though in principle the majority do not want Russia to succeed in reestablishing the Soviet territories, show self serving greed to be more important , than social stability. Socialism being replaced by isolationist Nationalists is a prime example of Capitalist failures to actually do something , other than hunker down behind ivory towers and glass walls, expecting others to do the work, while they speculate. Either by fair means or foul , the Russian economy has moved to a war time one , they have stated their intentions and still too little ,too late is going to cost all, if Nationalists, like Trump are chosen and their divide and conquer wins out in the U.S. Praying for the best, while NOT planning for the worst, is a false policy of failed states. Austin is shown to be not up to the job , by his own countries political system fails. The E.U's time to sink or swim.
