Billion Dollar Base: Dismantling Camp Bastion tells the story of the team dismantling the British Army base in Afghanistan. For eight years it’s been the powerhouse of UK and US military operations. This documentary was given exclusive access to the men and women whose job it was to pack up this giant jigsaw puzzle, ending one of the longest wars in British history.
A town bigger than many in Britain, with a massive infrastructure - airport, hospital, fast food restaurants - is being dismantled bolt by bolt and sent back to the UK. Now, Britain's biggest overseas base since WWII is closing down for good. The doc team was given exclusive access to the men and women whose job it was to pack up this giant jigsaw puzzle, ending one of the longest wars in British history.
The camp, bigger than many towns in Britain, with a massive infrastructure - airport, hospital, fast food restaurants - is being dismantled and sent back to the UK. Any leftovers will be handed over to the Afghans. But with defenses and manpower depleting daily, the future of Afghanistan could become even more precarious with nothing in between its people and the constant threat of the Taliban. And as we've heard from the US, they plan on pulling out everything and every one by September 11 of this year.

Of course they left it because it was heavy. And while they took all the equipment, there’s no assurance they won’t fall in the hands of the taliban. Would you leave equipment that could come to bite you in your back with forces that haven’t shown that they are equipped to defend it?

That Afghan officer was so disappointed when he saw they’re taking everything with them. They could’ve at least left the water bottling plant and other such essentials. After all they’ve suffered tremendously already. The guy literally said they’d even take the barriers with them if they could.

The Afghan colonel looks defeated when he realizes all the important infrastructure if being taken away and all they are being left with is an insanely large base with empty buildings.
Whats really sad is that new Afghan govt and army is now solely responsible for maintaining peace and order within the state, so they could really use ALL the infrastructure they can get. AND if were already donating plenty of money to help afghan with this, and also have an unnecessary amount of military equipment, why not sell it to them at a discounted price? Shipping it all back seems counterproductive when they need it more than we do.

For those of you wondering why more things weren't left behind... the sad reality is that they will not hold the base and at one point will be overrun. Anything that is left behind effectively goes to the enemy or stolen or sold to the enemy. They are better off destroying the equipment than being used against the good guys or civilians down the road.

You can see disappointment on the Afghan commander face. Its understandable that sensitive material should go. But should have left something or more equipments for ANA, like radio or cctv or something else for their defence against the Taliban. After all, you were supposed to help. Not make their lives harder after total destroyed them. I know it sounds confuse, but you know what I mean.

The British and their allied got their haram money by exploiting the muslim countries and the world through deceptive methods. So at last, they have to say silently, were broke . That's why, before they leaves Afghanistan, they dismantled everything, (if possible the thick wall and transport it to the UK).
What they left are a few Afghan Christians (usually they bring some missionary with them to christianised the muslim so as a starter to sow their christians faith seeds into afghan society), so polluted the future muslims generations to come, as they have already done in Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and the Muslims countries.

They give most of the stuff to the Afghan army. But you have to remember that it's not easy to maintain all that infrastructure without thick pockets. Also if the Afghans fail to hold onto it, they may end up in the hands of insurgents like we have seen happening with the Iraqis.

This is just like the First Anglo Afghan War. The British East India company thought they controlled Afghanistan because they had a cantonment outside of Kabul. Reality turned out that the Afghan tribesmen controlled everything outside the cantonment.

To rule Afghanistan, a ruler would have to put people with strong familial ties to the office of power in every land and use brute force to defend it. It's a herculean task which can't be envied especially when the funding for all public goods and war effort would require taxing a people who neither earn nor reap much to give.
