I have been thinking of using UV resin to make cups but never saw it done until now! It seems so easy. Hoping to purchase all the necessary items to make them myself soon. Thank you so much for making this tutorial.
A word to the wise - UV lights are dangerous to your eyes - as a fly tyer I am very familiar with UV resin, it's very popular for finishing flies instead of varnish. A friend of mine who ties semi-professionally began to have sight issues and upon investigation by an eye specialist, discovered irrepairable damage to his eyes from the use of the UV torch used to cure the resin. He was recommended that he wear quality UV A + B protective sunglasses when using the UV torch. Considering that the UV lamp you used is probably 10 times larger than the UV torches we use as fly tyers I would SERIOUSLY recommend NOT looking into the light, turning it to face you etc and DEFINETLY get some eye protection.
Did this cup, learned a lot of lessons. 1 use the correct spray adhesive mine was 300 not the right one, left a lot of lumps.2 less of the resin. I thought I was using small amounts, took a long time to cure. The good news is it is still a cup. Will definitely try again. Thanks for the video
Which adhesive is the correct one that you ended up using? Also, how smooth did your cup come out using the UV resin? I've seen other non-uv where they burnish the glitter first before sealing.
I knew this was possible!! The traditional way is just way too complicated and time consuming. The resin your using is the same one I use as well for my toppers. This was my thought but could not see it !! Lol... thank you so much 💓 Amazon cart here I come !!!
You've explained this so well that I think I can do it. I'm so excited and have so many ideas in my head already. Thank you very much Becca!! 💜🌸💜🌸💜🌸💜🌸💜
I have not tried making a tumbler yet, it seemed too scary to me. Now I cannot wait to try, this looked very simple! Thanks so much for the tutorial!!!
Great video Becca 😁 I’ve done this before they turn out great! But now I need to go buy a different UV light😂 yours works so much better. I also agree with the worst thing that can happen outside (bugs, grass, leaves etc .)
Patti Myers, I had a problem with the glitter rubbing off when I added the first coat of resin. Should I have added clear coat or Mod Podge to seal it prior to doing the resin coat?
@@terrydahlem5262 Maybe try and rub (after adding the second coat ) the glitter in to the stickiness of the spray before you add the the layer of the UV resin, that will ensure that any extra glitter is off.
I've never been interested in the regular epoxy tumblers because they seem ridiculously thick And heavy. This looks like a great option for some sleek custom cups
Thank you, Becca! I successfully made tumblers following Rachel's video. Then 2 in a row fell off my turner and I gave up! I bought the supplies and am trying my first with this method today.
@@terrydahlem5262 some of the turners don’t hold them well. I started with one from Michael’s and the “arm” was like a cheap kids beater. It was impossible to keep it level and it liked to drop the tumblers. I was less than happy.
I have been afraid to venture into the epoxy resin tumbler world, this tutorial makes it seem possible to at least step into it. It's this as durable as using the regular epoxy method?
How long do you let the uv lamp cure for ur tumblers? I normally use the sunlight but with it being windy and cloudy I need another option. Would the lamp you use be good for me? Thanks
Thank you so much for this video! I have always had the worst luck with two part resin. I know that uv resin is quite a bit more expensive but it's so convenient, and I use it so much. I really wanted to make tumblers for a while but the resin kept me from it. Thank you for this video.
I love this video, you made it so simple. I'm new to the cricut world and this type of crafting, but I'm so excited to start. Any recommendations for glitter purchases? Thanks in advance ☺️
Would you say this worked just as well as the process Rachel did back in 2019? That video was titled The Perfect Glitter Tumbler Tutorial. Would you say the UV resin looks just as smooth as that?
The UV resin you use in the video is 200g bottle, how much of the bottle is required for a regular size tumbler? I am looking at using this method on a 1 qt container?
Depends on the thickness of the coat you applied! Around 5-10 minutes. If you can place your item in the sun to dry it will take even less time than that :)
This is what I want to know too. We use FDA food safe epoxy resins and always do a final clear coat with no additives to make it compliant and safe to use for drinking. (Additives include any pigments, colorants or glitter etc)
I have had to strip my tumbler… sooo frustrated! I thought I had it this time! The first 3 times was with epoxy resin. I thought it would work with the UV resin! Everything was going great until I put the resin in my tumbler and the glitter wiped off and bunched up! How long does the adhesive have to dry before I can put my resin on?
It’s best if you spray paint the tumbler before adding glitter. Not only does it make the glitter pop, you use less glitter. With doing it that way it doesn’t matter what color tumbler you use.
Some (though not all) UV Resins are food safe once completely cured. Be sure to check the exact Resin you want to work with for information about food safety. 😀

@@brrrittch I eventually found out that you can put the UV resin on in the first step and glitter over that, works much better, no lumps.
Hi. Do you mind telling me the exact type of adhesive you had to use? Loctite 100? 200?
I knew this was possible!! The traditional way is just way too complicated and time consuming. The resin your using is the same one I use as well for my toppers. This was my thought but could not see it !! Lol... thank you so much 💓 Amazon cart here I come !!!
This is so awesome!! Thank you for sharing! This method seems to be so much quicker than the other method!! Love it!
You are so welcome!
This is awesome I love uv resin way more than epoxy resin and will definitely try this
When you take tape off does it leave it sharp if so how do you make smooth? X
How long does it take your tumblers to cure outdoors in direct sunlight w Jdiction high gloss UB resin
Hi. Do you have to sand between coats of resin? Thanks for that informative video.
How long did you let the glitter sit? Did you put something over the glitter before applying the uv resin?
Love it. You are so talented
Thanks SO much!!
It all makes sense now THANK YOU!!!
You are welcome!
Instead of the lock tite, can you use mod podge?
Yes

it was SO simple miss Heather. You will love the outcome
Thanks! Looks easy but also like a lot of work...I can consider the itch to make this scratched by watching you lol
It's pretty easy! Once you make one, they come together REALLY easy :)
Awesome tutorial! Hey can you tell me about how long it takes for each layer to dry on the Turner?
Does it hold up well? Like epoxy?
I'm so happy I found this video thank you!!! I just love this channel!!!!
So glad!😊

Hi...can you put Crystalac brite tone on after the uv resin. Thanks in advance
I would suggest putting something over it as uv resin is not food safe/grade.
Beautiful, thanks.
How well does UV resin hold up on tumblers?
I've heard it yellows after about 6 months.
Is UV resin suitable for tumblers? I thought it wasn't food grade.
Is it completely smooth?
I have the same cup turner!!!!
That's awesome!
I’m going to try this and will let you know how it turns out
Please do!
Do you have to cure with reg. Epoxy also
I have to get one of those glitter vacs!

You made that so smith and simple! Thanks!
Love this! I have a 75W UV Led Lamp for Gel Nails, Would it also work with this resin??
Yup!!! I have 96 and it’s worked fine!
I have been watching videos before I make my first glitter tumbler. Was there a reason you didn’t sand the tumbler before applying the loctite?
How long do you let the uv lamp cure for ur tumblers? I normally use the sunlight but with it being windy and cloudy I need another option. Would the lamp you use be good for me? Thanks
You have made this look so easy. I’ve just ordered a bunch of stuff. 😬😁
Yay!
Love my glitter vac

Great video! Does this resin have a bad odor like epoxy?
You should wear a mask, but I don't think the smell is nearly as strong as epoxy.

What are the care instructions for items that are covered in the resin? Are they dishwasher safe?
Resin of any kind is not dishwasher safe
I used fine glitter and it still chunked up and I cured the Apoxy and it’s really sticky what should I do
How long does it take for the UV resin to fully dry.
Depends on the thickness of the coat you applied! Around 5-10 minutes. If you can place your item in the sun to dry it will take even less time than that :)
Hi, how long between layers should it be curing? Like from applying resin to adding the decal then after? I’m confused on that part lol.
Great detailed step by step tutorial. Thank you Becca. Wishing you and the entire MGL team a super week. Hugs Susan
how long does it take to cure?
I’ve heard UV Resin is not very durable. How has this cup held up over time? Also is there any concern that the resin is not FDA food safe?

@@carolstewart1704 DO you have a video on how you do your glitter tumblers? I would love to see your method.

So this would take the place of epoxy? And is it FDA approved?
No
Great video, one question. Does the tumbler have to be silver or can it be a colored tumbler?
Is UV resin fairly durable?
do you feel the UV resin is just as good as regular epoxy
It is not. It yellows much quicker and is not as hard as the other 2 part resins.
I have had to strip my tumbler… sooo frustrated! I thought I had it this time! The first 3 times was with epoxy resin. I thought it would work with the UV resin! You have to seal your glitter before you apply the resin
Would u suggest this for a business or it would be to much money
You would get sued by your customers as it is not food safe / grade.
Does it have to be a silver tumbler or can it be one that has a colored coating on it?
It’s best if you spray paint the tumbler before adding glitter. Not only does it make the glitter pop, you use less glitter. With doing it that way it doesn’t matter what color tumbler you use.

How many tumblers can you do with one bottle of up resin

Do you have to wear a mask for that
Yes you should still wear a mask.
Do you wear a mask and does it smell as horrid as epoxy?
