FWIW, for glass, if you want to "seal" it, you can use a clear overlay (like TRW's Vinyl Shield) with a very small overlap. Not perfect but it does extend the life of the decal without it looking awful.
It’s actually quite easy to place vinyl on a balloon, especially a large balloon. The trick is to cut down into the vinyl (around the lettering) that way it takes the shape of the balloon and spreads easily.
Yep, definitely used HTV on genuine leather multiple times and have great results! I’ve placed it on keychains and earrings and I’ve never had issues. I guess it was the right kind of leather - nothing special, mostly scrap packs.
So I totally never thought that I would have something to add to one of your videos because you guys have been at this way way longer than me but you can do mylar balloons if you buy them somewhere you can take them home uninflated and bring them back to be inflated I actually did some really cool ones for my son’s birthday party and what I do afterwards is a poke a little hole in the back flatten them out and then we hang them on his wall as decor 😊 I don’t think I can post pictures on here but I will try to add some to my page or if anybody was curious how they turned out just reply to my message and I’ll show you 😊
I don’t like that you say “it’s a waste of material”. If I’m making it on a project it’s not wasting. Makes me happy to make. And the balloon def isn’t a waste. When you make it for someone it doesn’t matter how long it lasts. It brings a smile to their face.
I was doing a last minute project and used Cricut brand transfer tape for paper with oracle vinyl. I made sure the transfer tape has lost majority of it's stickiness. It turned out well and didn't need to restart.
Clear contact paper is amazing for transfer tape....and Walmart has a 36' roll for $6....thats $0.17 for a 12x12 piece, instead of cricut brand that's roughly $1/12x12 piece.
Thank you for the advice. Your reasoning is sound. Especially for the stuffed animals. I would be concerned about a baby or toddler chewing on the ear, and then choking on the vinyl if it comes off. You’d think it would be put up as a keepsake, but common sense unfortunately isn’t always there.
I apply vinyl to balloons regularly. Most of my customers love customized ballons as a focal point.I just cheap removable vinyl. I need that transfer tape! Thank you.
Thanks so much for the info! I love your videos! If people do want to put vinyl on balloons, I've used mylar balloons with great success. I've never tried the latex ones, for the very reasons you gave. But, you can put the vinyl on the mylar before it's blown up, so you can burnish it nice and hard. When you blow up the balloon, since it doesn't expand like a latex, it has no problems. Dollar tree, by the way, has mylar balloons, already blown up with helium, in all sorts of colors and shapes. Can't burnish those since they're already blown up, but, I mean, the vinyl only has to stick through the party, right? Even still, I haven't had any problem with it coming off. And, while it may cost a little more to use vinyl, it's still cheaper than party store balloons, and , best of all, you can customize them exactly how you want. Thanks for all your tips!!
That’s too funny I actually just said the same thing about the mylar balloons and I actually got mine at dollar tree as well they came out really nice and is definitely something that can be added to your available products if you’re a small business owner 😊
Dollar tree also carries their own premium and removable vinyl....its not the greatest but for a one time use item like a balloon, it would work perfect! And makes your project super affordable!!!
While I get the idea on the long haired stuff animals, I've done it and the bunny has my daughter's name and has last a year with no issues... guess it depends more on how your kid treats them to be honest. It holds fine it not being crazy with it.
I've done so many!! And my kids are rough on them and they're still perfectly fine🤷♀️ I think also giving enough pressure when applying to make sure that adhesive really gets into it too but I only use siser glitter vinyl because it's thicker and seems to have a stronger adhesive and I've had no issues over the last 7 years customers keep coming back for more too.
She has another video where she tells you that you can use dishwasher safe mod-podge on your cups etc. So i'm confused by her telling us we CANT in this video??
I'd be concerned about getting an even coat. Sometimes it's hard enough on a flat surface to achieve an even coat, but if it's curved, I'd be a bit concerned. Having said that, I haven't used that particular product.
This was super helpful, especially the masking transfer tape. Not agreeing with the permanent tape and glass though. I have glasses and mugs I've made years ago that still look amazing. I'd re-word that to maybe say they won't last forever, not saying they won't last long. I've made cereal bowls... you name it.
Yes!! My daughter has a cup with vinyl on it. I've washed that thing hundreds of times and it still looks as good as it did day 1. I only hand wash it.
Some people have better luck than others. I have applied removable vinyl to glass, and have never had a problem. It stays on, even in the dishwasher. I cannot be bothered trying to seal it, but wonder if an aerosol sealer would work. As for stuffed animals, it seems like they’d be fine if they were for decorative purposes.
Thank you for the information about the transfer tape for paper as I am a scrapbooker and I have been using press and seal to transfer vinyl onto my pages as I use a lot of vinyl and HTV on my scrapbook pages
I have a balloon business & I apply vinyl to almost every arrangement that I make. It’s requested by 90% of my clients/customers. I use vinyl on latex balloons & on bubble balloons. I charge $2-$3 for personalization but the clients/customers love personalizing their arrangements 🎈

Newbie .but have only used htv and basic stuff. I want to know what to use and how to use regular permanent ? Am looking forward to trying to understand flattern. Your Cricut info is incredible. I'm a newbie to the Cricut world and you've already saved me many dollars. Thanks! PS: one question re: the paper transfer tape. what width do you find the best bang for the buck?
hi. I am very new to Cricut and crafting, I am an artist trying to grow her business. I am having such a tie understanding the pen, when to use it when to not? Interesting video (as always)...but...I kind of disagree with your balloon theory....you seem to be speaking about the latex balloons....but I have had incredible luck placing adhesive vinyl on mylar balloons. I wouldn't put it on the latex balloons...but mylar a) lasts longer and b) often comes on a stick (making it last almost indefinitely). I have purchased plain mylar balloons from the dollar store and added vinyl and they lasted for ages....well...the one for my granddaughter's birth her mama let the air out and put it in her baby book, but another I did for an adult friend with a rainbow and giraffe and his name on lasted until it accidentally floated out the door behind someone leaving and no one noticed! LOL
I might have gotten lucky but I accidentally mirrored a word so instead of throwing the vinyl away I put it on a card stock scrap with the cricut transfer tape and it worked fine … lol no ripping or tearing. Maybe it was a stroke of luck cause the stuff is sticky
I did apply metallic gold HTV to thin real leather (1.7mm) for a set of bookmarks. It was TRICKY to get the heat right! Using an EasyPress2, at 290F I hit it for 3 seconds. Peeled cold, then another BRIEF 2-3 second press with only the cover paper. That's it. If it was overheated, the leather shriveled like bacon! Yeah, HTV on real leather is definitely sketchy. I can only suggest if you want to try it, go for the low end of effective temperature. And you'd HAVE to experiment. I'd never try HTV on a leather book cover, for example. I agree with their recommendation to just avoid this application, but for the right project it MIGHT be possible.
There is HTV (heat transfer vinyl) vinyl, which uses heat (heat press) to adhere to fabric and permanent and removable vinyl that uses a transfer tape to adhere the vinyl to a surfaces like tumblers, cups, glassware, mats, etc.
Hello, im new to cricut, trying to learn ..we're purchasing the explore 3 for me this week. Wondering whats the best bundle for the $$? Thanks so much.
Well Walmart is very expensive. I have a friend who lives close to the border of Mexico and with the price we pay here at we pay in Mexico but BUT we get double the merchandise. So I send her the money and when she goes to the other side she buys everything needed and sends it to me. It's so worth it.
I would use removable vinyl and clean the area well before putting it down . If it's going to be walked on more than once, I'd use permanent vinyl applied and heated with hair dryer or heat gun. Still clean the area (block area off to any kind of traffic, soap & water, scrub with brush/broom, rinse well, let dry) then apply the permanent vinyl. Depending on how visible or long lasting you want your marks, an alternative is to make stencils with removable vinyl and use water color, tempera, or acrylic paint or dampen the area through the stencil and chalk heavily with dampened chalk through the stencil. Chalk is temporary, lasts maybe a half to full day depending on traffic, and is easily washed away with plain water, though applying wet chalk makes it slightly more durable than dry chalk. Water colors or tempera paint can also be removed with water, but may need a bit of scrubbing and will last at least one day, possibly several, depending on traffic. Acrylic paint will last a lot longer, maybe a week or more depending in traffic, and will not always wash off with water and scrubbing. You can also use water based interior wall or exterior house paint if you want your marks to last longer (I used interior white wall paint to put hopscotch on my driveway. It lasted several Years (10 or so) through multiple pressure washes and being driven on daily, though it did fade away). All 4 methods of stencilling will wear off when walked or driven on for a period of time.
Thank you so much for this video, I’m actually still watching it! I signed up for the offer. I have had a cricut joy for about 8 months but just got my cricut maker 3 (about a week and a half ago), and I haven’t opened the box yet because I had to organize my room along with, unfortunately, some family emergencies happening. So I appreciate any help I can get. Thank you!
It's not recommended and some may say it's unsafe to put resin on soft plastic or pliable material because when the cup sweats it can create a mold hazard between the epoxy and the cup. I hope this makes sense
Thanks for the info. Very helpful tips. May I ask if it is okay to use any type of vinyl to candle jar? I know it is a glass but just for specific occasion only. When burning, does it affect the vinyl as well?
I’m in the UK too and www.ebay.co.uk www.amazon.co.uk or www.hobbycraft.co.uk are my go to places. Word of warning about eBay though, please double check the post and packing. I ordered something from USA in error & postage cost almost as much as the product! Happy shopping 🛍
hi first time in here I am a complete bigginer in fact I am still debating whether I buy the machine. I have one question pls and I'd like your help can I use HTV on velvet cushions?? and which type HTV I should buy 💗thank you so much 🥰
Hello! Yes ma'am you can Iron on velvet. It may not stick the best and you will need a protective sheet like a teflon sheet or a piece of butchers paper. We love Siser EasyWeed: bit.ly/3hjLgLP .
I'd use flock HTV on the elephant. It's for decor and the flock HTV is thick enough that it adheres nicely to the elephants. Also, because it's flock it is soft and velvety. I've done it several times. Blankets are a little trickier. If the pile of the blanket isn't too high you could use flock or brick HTV. Thicker looking HTV for thicker items. If the item is really shaggy then embroidery would be a better option. Hope this helps.
Oh! That hasn't really happened to us. Be sure your transfer tape isn't extra strength or anything like that. Also depending on the surface goo gone does the trick for most surfaces :)
Egads, I panicked a wee bit when I saw this video with the baby birth elephant in the picture! I made one for my daughter-in-law's first grandchild and was a little bummed thinking it wasn't going to last. My mistake. Jumped the gun too quick. Only did vinyl on the flat ears.
Baloons look so cute with adhesive vinyl on them! I do them almost weekly.. never had a problem.. :-)
And Quality Balloons Definitely last more than a day or two🎈
FWIW, for glass, if you want to "seal" it, you can use a clear overlay (like TRW's Vinyl Shield) with a very small overlap. Not perfect but it does extend the life of the decal without it looking awful.

If you use Crystalac and use your finger to add it self levels and doesn’t show streaks. That is what I use to seal.
Epoxy too!!!
I would recommend using removable vinyl as a paint stencil for flip flops, it’s a super cute idea!
Thank you!
If using vinyl, wouldn't permanent adhesive vinyl be a better and cheaper alternative to HTV for that short-lifespan footwear?
@@webwarren She said as a stencil so you can paint on them.

I added a tattoo gun to a latex ballon using sollar tree vinyl. They looked great, very inexpensive and my brother in law loved them....

What about spray sealer on glass? I’ve heard success about Krylon Crystal glaze and since it’s spray, there wouldn’t be brush strokes.
i use my vinyl on glass as a stencil ad use etching cream you can try that I havent tried using epoxy yet

You can seal glass and plastic cups with epoxy using a tumbler turner and not have any brush marks.
That’s crazy vinyl on drinkware is a big trend selling cups and glass cup

Question....if we should not use vinyl for the items mentioned, then what do you recommend we use...for example towels?
I put them on flip flops and seal the design with clear fingernail polish for the grandchildren and htv on hand towels for decorations

Hi, I applied siser psv to clear plastic fillable ornaments & the vinyl keeps lifting off. I've "repressed" the vinyl multiple times..would sealing the decal fix it? Appreciate any solution ideas, thank you! 😊
I would like to know the answer to this also.
You had me worried when you initially showed a picture of the pink elephant
For glass, use an epoxy with a spinner to seal if you want

vinyl on balloons is a big business! its a skill and comes with practice. Its a makes great profit!

Use a cup turner and you can seal any cup
How do u feel about dollar tree vinyl?
I just brought a bunch I like it
I use it for stencils only
I did apply metallic gold HTV to thin real leather (1.7mm) for a set of bookmarks.
It was TRICKY to get the heat right! Using an EasyPress2, at 290F I hit it for 3 seconds. Peeled cold, then another BRIEF 2-3 second press with only the cover paper. That's it. If it was overheated, the leather shriveled like bacon!

Can you add it to a silicone bib?
Hi, I have a question. How many types of HTV’s are there, and how do you know which ones to use for different projects? Thank you! 😁
There is HTV (heat transfer vinyl) vinyl, which uses heat (heat press) to adhere to fabric and permanent and removable vinyl that uses a transfer tape to adhere the vinyl to a surfaces like tumblers, cups, glassware, mats, etc.
Can I put htv or regular vinyl on umbrellas
Hello, im new to cricut, trying to learn ..we're purchasing the explore 3 for me this week. Wondering whats the best bundle for the $$? Thanks so much.

What do I seal vinyl with thats on painted terra cot pots? My vinyl keeps peeling
I machine embroidery on bath towels. I wouldn't think of using HTV on them.
Can we heat press pictures onto velvet for a pillow?
What kind of printable vinyl did you recomend for paste on the ground? (It is for a Covid-19 sings project.)
I am from Puerto Rico, and new in this amaizing craft world!!
Hi Deedmara!! I'm from PR too. How fun to find a puertorrican crafter here!!

It's not recommended and some may say it's unsafe to put resin on soft plastic or pliable material because when the cup sweats it can create a mold hazard between the epoxy and the cup. I hope this makes sense
@@dary2howard it does. Thank you!!!
Thanks for sharing. I do have a question. Do you guys have a video for heat settings for heat press and htv ?
Never had issues with any of these.
Thank you so much for sharing.
You're so welcome!
Thanks for the info. Very helpful tips.
May I ask if it is okay to use any type of vinyl to candle jar? I know it is a glass but just for specific occasion only. When burning, does it affect the vinyl as well?
How do you make little people stickers on your cricut on table in front of you?
Flip flop is great for summer or vacation photo
Thank you so much Rachael
You're welcome!
Hi I am based in UK and the links posted for HTV are not based in UK, would someone please help where I could source some in UK. Thanks
Amazon
Gm Crafts
I’m in the UK too and www.ebay.co.uk www.amazon.co.uk or www.hobbycraft.co.uk are my go to places. Word of warning about eBay though, please double check the post and packing. I ordered something from USA in error & postage cost almost as much as the product! Happy shopping 🛍
Have you tried the Econo Puff HTV? I like theirs compared to Starcraft Puff…
Where's the description box🤷♀️
What should I use for silicone?
What about mylar balloons? They last quite awhile.
The faux leather can it go on faux leather material. Like for a book bag made with vinyl material
How about a tea towel or hand towel?
hi first time in here I am a complete bigginer in fact I am still debating whether I buy the machine. I have one question pls and I'd like your help can I use HTV on velvet cushions?? and which type HTV I should buy
💗thank you so much 🥰
Hello! Yes ma'am you can Iron on velvet. It may not stick the best and you will need a protective sheet like a teflon sheet or a piece of butchers paper. We love Siser EasyWeed: bit.ly/3hjLgLP .
I bet you can use the dollar tree vinyl for balloons since it's so papery and cheap
Good info! Thanks! However, when you were talking about no vinyl on glass, what about those decorative glass blocks and shadow boxes?
Things that don’t get washed regularly (ever) wouldn’t need to be sealed.
She was referring to drinking glasses, not glass as a material. However, I’ve never had a problem with glasses.
Don’t see the free ebook? Where do I go?
The elephants are easiest. My first project!!!
Yay!
so would you recommend using sublimation to put a design on things like the elephant ears or the fuzzy blankets like you can get at 5 below?
I'd use flock HTV on the elephant. It's for decor and the flock HTV is thick enough that it adheres nicely to the elephants. Also, because it's flock it is soft and velvety. I've done it several times. Blankets are a little trickier. If the pile of the blanket isn't too high you could use flock or brick HTV. Thicker looking HTV for thicker items. If the item is really shaggy then embroidery would be a better option. Hope this helps.
What about adhesive residue from my transfer tape. I get that sometimes
Oh! That hasn't really happened to us. Be sure your transfer tape isn't extra strength or anything like that. Also depending on the surface goo gone does the trick for most surfaces :)
Hahaha Its pretty popular to put vinyl on the stuffed elephant and the Starbucks cups.
Yes! They're so cute!
What would you apply to a stuffed elephants ear if not vinyl?
Probably embroidery would be better I would think.
What about a spray sealer to glass?
What about Java Sox, can we do iron on transfers
Egads, I panicked a wee bit when I saw this video with the baby birth elephant in the picture! I made one for my daughter-in-law's first grandchild and was a little bummed thinking it wasn't going to last. My mistake. Jumped the gun too quick. Only did vinyl on the flat ears.
Y’all did a video, using HTV on a stuffed rabbit. I believe it was Charlie. 4 months ago.
What printable vinyl works on cars
awesome! Thank you!!
