Really appreciate the factors you considered in your comparison, Steve. I wouldn’t have thought to weigh them and it turns out it’s an important differentiator. As a beginner, I appreciate all the help and advice you provide! Cheers!
I purchased the JDiction right after you discovered it, Steve, and I have never been disappointed! Has it really been 2 years?!? Wow! Thank you so much for testing so many competing brands. I, too, like Let's Resin brand, but it does sometimes remain a bit sticky even after a solid curing.
I have used MANY comparing, my least favorite is Bezell & Kisrel my favorite is Yieho because it cures great and doesn’t stink. Let’s Resin is ok too. Now to be fair I just bought JDicktion and haven’t tried it yet. But now that I know one of my favorites is under-weight I won’t buy it again.
I tried a bunch of UV resins as well, and honestly the only one that's actually great is the (ridiculously expensive) Padico Star Drop. No residue at all, ever. It's crystal clear, hard and does NOT yellow with time. But it's at 20-25$ per hg, to which you often have to add import fees since it's only shipped from Japan. I'd be interested to see you review it or compare it with the other brands though.
This was really interesting, thank you! Have been holding off buying for a while until I'm more sure so this has been very helpful. My other reason is the alarming differences and confusing reviews of the UV lamps, I got so muddled I've given up more than once. I should have checked your playlists to see if you've reviewed any before posting this... will head off there shortly!
Thank you, Steve! 😊 The Yieho is my favorite for the soap bubbles technique, I couldn’t get the quality quick results from any other so far. And it goes on sale quite often for $7.50 or even cheaper for the Larger bottle. It’s quite important to know that it’s Under-filled though!!! Thanks again!💕
Any of them that are made in china are made in the same place and just branded for whomever buys it. Find the one that fits your budget and makes you feel good about the purchase. That's why there's so many, it's marketing.
I've been hoping you'd make a UV resin review, this is great! I just ordered JDiction, and I should be getting it next week. Unless you've slready repurposed the test pieces you made, is there any chance you'd be willing to make a test on yellowing, too?
I have been experiencing rapid shrinkage in all the materials lately. The chameleon flakes I had delivered yesterday weighed just 4.8 grams in unopened bottle, sold as 5 gm of chameleon powder.
I have a bunch of different brands of resin. I have noticed some extreme differences & will definitely weigh as I have one with the roses on the bottle.
Excellent video! I love the way your mind works for this comparison. Experience has taught me JDiction is excellent as is Let's Resin. Thank you, Steve! 🥰😘
This is SO insanely helpful!! I've wanted to coat some clay sculptures with uv resin, but I've kept putting it off because I had no idea where to even begin. Thank you so much for your honest review of them!!
Thank you for this review! I'm still a complete beginner, and for my first experiments, I ordered YIEHO resin 3 weeks ago (3x100 g for €15). Like you showed in your video, I didn't like that the resin remains slightly sticky after drying. It does eventually dry completely after a few days. But I don't always want to wait several days, so after watching your video, I ordered Let's Resin on Amazon because there was a big discount - instead of €25 for 200 g, it was €15. However, Let's Resin turned out to be a complete disaster!😭😭 If YIEHO only sticks slightly after drying, Let's Resin stays completely sticky and greasy! I coated dry rose petals in thin layers and dried them last night for almost 10 minutes under the lamp. This morning, they are still very sticky! Yesterday morning, I coated two other petals. They also took a long time to dry initially, but by evening, I found they had dried completely and weren't sticky at all anymore. I don't understand what's going on!
Thank you so, SO much for your breakdown on this! I was looking to get into making resin pieces & there were SO many brands I was very quickly overwhelmed. The notes on viscosity too were SUPER important for me.. I have bad arthritis & watching you squeeze that bottle.. I just know there's no way I'd ever get that stuff out of there. All the important data covered, good notes, I know which one I'm going to get now! Thank you, thank you!
One of the most important thing for me, is figuring out how ALL TYPES of RESINS work; which items work better on projects, differences in casting, epoxies l, polyurethane, etc. I truly need the HELP. Thanks
Ha ha I just bought a package of mold release it advertised having a bonus percentage of of spray. They felt kind of light so I weighed the can on my scale both cans were woefully underweight. I sprayed some and tried it in a mold and it left marks. I want to return it thankfully they gave me a break saying I didn't need to return it just Chuck it. So now I weigh everything! That were scratched so now I make sure to inspect the molds as soon as they come in. I'm hoping maybe when I learned how to dip finish pieces so they are all nice and glossy the scratches won't show up anymore. Unfortunately it was on a mold that I could make pendants with. I just bought a UV kit to make jewelry so at least I'll have something to work with. I went with less resin so I'm interested in seeing how it rates on your comparison. So glad I found your channel!
One more variable I’d recommend for testing is yellowing, it’s more of a longer term for testing but maybe a future update video to see which ones hold up to the test the best. Thanks for sharing!!!
Thank you for this. I always wondered what the difference was in brand for UV resin. Are you planning to do a similar video for regular resin? I know you have done them for clarity and alcohol ink, but don't remember seeing such a detailed one for price, hardness, etc. like this. I learn so much watching all of your work.
I love all your videos, but I especially love your comparison videos and your experiment videos the most. It can be hard to find good quality and good priced art supplies and materials.
Certainly not boring - quite helpful. Good data points! I started with JDiction and had a few startup issues with it. I moved to Let's Resin and like it much better. I agree, they are the top 2 to work with.
I agree! I personally think that Jay diction UV resin is overrated and it's $10 more for 500g at the time of writing this, I've did a extensive yellowing test on 8 different Brands and it has started to yellow just a wee bit while let's resin is still completely clear... Furthermore the BSREZN it's still completely clear despite the fact that they apparently short you about you pay for... I use this brand for thinner viscosity stuff as it seems to degas better than let's resin and actually cures very well for me despite what this review States. I will add so that let's resin has their new resin called let resin 2.0... I'm not sure if it is a Eco resin or whatever but it will yellow unlike their original formula. Let's resin is low viscosity however will not yellow in my testing cool, but I don't feel that it is truly a low viscosity resin as it don't seem much thinner than their original formula which is why I use BSREZN.
Could you (or have you) do a video on the different types of UV resin and the different ways to color it. I've seen 'hard type' 'thin type' and 'soft type' UV resin and different viscosities. I also see like seascape pigment, heavy white colorant, mica powders, acrylic paints, alcohol ink. Opaque dyes, transparent dyes etc. It is confusing for a ditz like me.
you taught me about paper clay and you taught me about making beads and uv resining them. i was very happy to see your name come up when i searched uv resins to us!! thank you very much!!
Thank you for the review :) I tried many uv resin until I found the brand I like. Before this I liked JDiction the most, but I have the problem, it shrinks, at least with my uv lamp. From now on I will weight my resin when it arrives ;)
Happy to see the first resin I bought Let's Resin came close to your favourite brand. When I've used up my 10+10 ounce kit from them I will probably switch to JDiction after that.
A few years back, before I knew how awful Wish was, I purchased some UV resin. Both bottles came and they weren't even half full. They didn't want to give a refund without "proof" but I was adamant enough and refused to give up and got a refund. I'm MUCH more cautious about where I get my UV resin these days.
Just watched your video and want to thank you. I thought I was doing something wrong because my uv resin took enormously long to cure and never achieved an acceptable hardness. I am going to change brands immediately and see if this solves my issues. I am not using a lot of pigment but still difficult to get fully curred
It's interesting that the color/hardness goes down so much on the let's Resin one. I started using Jdiction when I started, but I could never get it to cure. I wonder if I just got a bad bottle or it sat on the shelf too long. I tend to use Let's Resin though.
Thanks for testing them for us. My first choice is j diction per your recommendation a long time ago. I’m not surprised at your findings but it was very interesting nonetheless. Thank you Steve.
I've had best luck with JDiction. I've tried a couple of the others, including Let's Resin, and they all had sticky residue after several minutes under the light. Thank you for your comparisons!
That is the exact problem that brought me here - sticky resin using Let's Resin. Also, I find it 'sweats' in the mould while curing. I'm at my wits end. 🙄.
I usually pour coasters but also do Disney straw toppers and keychains . What sells good for someone starting out ? I love doing this as a hobby and learning to do fireworks or bloom , but I’d really try to start a side business and sell my work . Could use some tips and tricks and what sells can you help me or be willing to do a combo stream with me and we can show what we do ?
I use JDiction and love it. When I started, I bought the Michael's brand (whatever that is) and it was trash. A solar event of catastrophic proportions wouldn't be able to make that UV resin cure.
Steve Im just starting out, I bought a heat gun, mixing cups and wooden mixers. I bought a couple of moulds I want to experiment with. What Resin should I buy and glitter and colours abs so on. Thanks a million Niall in (Ireland)
Steve, this is a really very helpful experiment. Thankx for this info; especially since there's so many different resins out there now; and many of them offer a reduced or sale price that make them almost irresistible. Keep up the great work with your videos; I think that you're the best.
I will also point out that DJ diction low viscosity resin that comes in the 100 G bottle is identical and look and size as the 100 G of bottle of BSresn... the bottles are exactly identical except for the label and the viscosity of the two resins are identical as well... I'm curious to see if there is a shortage of product with j diction low viscosity.
Think you! New sub, and I loved this comparison! I never thought to weigh the bottles! And the hardness tests - wow! New to UV resin & you already saved me $$!
So funny this popped up in my recommendations as I was sitting down to use UV resin on a last minute pen. I actually held off until I watched it as I was trying the Let's Resin for the first time. So happy it ranked up there with JDiction! (I always play videos in the background when working to make time go faster.)
I love jdiction! I use Let’s Resin on occasion. Your reviews are so good and so thorough! You have helped me through the years. I totally trust you even if you didn’t go into all the tests! Thank you!
I just bought some JDiction and it was terrible! It was unusable because it was so thick! Then I bought Let's resin and it was absolutely amazing I would definitely buy Let"s Resin again!
Now this was a useful video for me! I thought all UV resins were created equal. I see they are not! I have some the cheap stuff, it was horrid, and I about quit the UV resin for creating. I'll get some better stuff and try again. Nice, thanks!👍
Thank you, that means a lot as for some reason this video is getting a bit of negative comments. All I’m trying to show is a piece of safety equipment to help protect people. 😀
I've tried most of those resins plus some really cheap Asian ones and most of the brands on Amazon. Never thought to weigh them, you so smart! Some okay, some lousy, on your advice, tried JDiction, best results. All of my designs contain horse hair or pet fur, which attract bubbles, JDiction attracts the least, if any with horse hair, minimal with pet fur.
You measured the weight of the bottles, I assume that the "contents" include the the weight of the bottle rather than subtracting the weight of the bottle, packaging and label. So they are all wrong if they aren't a little heavier than listed. :(
Thank you so much for this information! Love your videos, you have such a pleasant personality and have gotten me to want to get resin and play around with it. You give such invaluable information!
As someone who is considering going into resin I am enjoying the review however being in the USA amazon seems only to carry yieho of the brands your testing. Most I find is craft resin, the epoxy resin store, shabebe, Kisrel, takimo, cookey, yieho, teexpert, puduo, elegoo, vacplus, imodeur, with craft resin being the best seller. I realize there is a usually vast difference in product between the USA and the UK.
Thank you so much for this amazing review of various products. I have never dabbled in UV Resin and this type of comparison is exceptionally helpful in making a decision on which product to start with so I don't get a bad experience out of the gate in this part of my resin adventure! You sir, rock
I don't really have a comparison personally, but I had bought my first UV resin from green stuff world and am really happy with it ^^ was so surprised how clear, easy and fast to cure and hard it is and so far have not noticed any yellowing ^^
Someone is gonna get sued for false marketing 😂. Excellent video. I've been testing various brands and keep finding myself disappointed in the finished product. JDiction is my last test. Glad to see it'll live up to the hype.
I actually really like the yeho uv resin but never weighed it, I love the jdiction 4 hour demold, I wonder if I will like their uv. Thank you so much for this.
Thank you so much for doing all of this work for us. I know it takes a lot of time to make these videos and all of your hard work is very much appreciated. I’m curious to know if you’ve done a comparison of the UV lights/curing lamps…for the beginner to moderate crafter & preferably budget-friendly, because who isn’t a starving artist these days😉
The prices for uv resin have gone up a lot in the last couple of months. It's tempting to go for cheaper brands, but if they aren't up to it, then it's no economy.
I always like your tear and compare test thank you. I know from time to time you have talked about yellowing over time intervals and exposure to sunlight etc, with UV's But do UV resins hold up well over time.?
I have a question. Does anyone happen to know how to soften resin dip? I bought some and it was hard upon arrival and I don’t know what to do with. I really want to use it, but I don’t know how to soften it again and since you are everything epoxy, and UV, I wanted to see your opinion.
I started using the yieho resin when I first started trying resin, it was great, cured nice ever time. I recently bought the jdiction resin to try that bc I have heard so many nice things about it. after 6 to 8 times under my light, I still had problems curing it, I thought maybe it was my cheap light that came with the yieho resin, so I tried my light I use with uv nail polish. still had problems, I bought a flashlight and another 2 expensive lights plus another bottle of jdiction bc everyone says how great it is. I still cant get good results with curing. I just spent a hour trying to cure a few charms that cured with the yieho in about 2 minutes. I have had so much faith in everyone saying how good jdiction is that I have put over $100 into trying to get their product to work and testing many things that might be wrong. I do not recommend jdiction at all,
You inspired me to get into UV resin crafting and because I had seen you using Let's Resin and JDiction; I went with whichever was on offer at the time through Amazon (having just had a birthday with some vouchers to flex haha). I have to say that my experience with the two brands has been the opposite in how you described them; what you said of JDiction, I found that with Let's Resin and vice versa, but I WHOLEHEARTEDLY agree; they are the best! And to be quite honest, I've actually mixed the two and had brilliant results! *Only* thing I have personally found is that JDiction is a bit more fussy when it comes to adding pigments and mica powder to it, in my experience, I had to cure in VERY thin layers, else I ended up with squishy centres, like some kind of UV resin donut lol! But I recommend both brands to anybody who wants to get into the hobby, as they are fantastic. - That said, I do now wonder if humidity was a factor for when I've used them, as we've had a pretty damp "summer" this year, hmmm..... This video is **incredibly** useful, thank you SO much for doing this and sharing your experiments with us, I admit to being tempted by the cheaper brands and thinking "it's all UV resin, isn't it?" This just proves that even if the recipes are similar, you don't always get the quantity you ordered!! Very important warning for all! You are a legend, Steve, thanks for all you do!
Have you tried putting it upside-down (while still in the silicone mold) under the lamp for a minute after you've cured the top? I've found that to be helpful.
I bought jdiction uv resin and it was a few months before I used it. Stored in original box, the bottles were still sealed and kept in the dark. When I went to use it, all three bottles were a thick gel consistency. Kind of like the slime kids play with. Bad batch?
Most likely the temperature and time length that it was stored. If you aren’t ready to use it then you probably shouldn’t buy it until you are because I’ve had this happen to me with certain products and it made me mad
My friend makes jewelry with uv resin and takes no safety precautions. Sitting in front of the UV light as the resin cures and uses no gloves or anything. Is this bad? I've told her multiple times to be more cautious...
Great review Steve, thanks so much. Veered helpful for those of us who have not used UV yet.

I was very disappointed in the lack of weight. I will be writing to the companies, letting them know my findings.
How was the JDiciton?
@@unknownfilmmaker777 I received my JDiction recently and haven’t tried it yet, also testing Let’s Resin.

I love jdiction! I use Let’s Resin on occasion. Your reviews are so good and so thorough! You have helped me through the years. I totally trust you even if you didn’t go into all the tests! Thank you!
Thank you so much for this. I am very new to all this and having a video like this will save me so much time and money in the long run.
thank you SO MUCH for this. very new beginner here, this was super duper helpful!!! almost bought one of the crappy ones, now gonna go for the JD!
I love the Let's Resin one. It has a low odor and like you said it cure with no bubbles
Very helpful! Thanks for the comparison!
Thanks Steve the best video so happy to find this
Thank you, that means a lot as for some reason this video is getting a bit of negative comments.
Great video Steve. I really appreciate this review and has answered many questions
As always this is very helpful. I trust your reviews, after all you have a ton of experience. Many thanks👍
Thank you Steve,Great review 👍 Also some of the UV resin's when put under the Uv light give off a very slight smoke I have noticed.
Thank you for doing the comparison between the brands. Awesome video ❤❤❤
Thank You!! Incredibly valuable info. I have only purchased Yeho, now I know better.
Thanks, I saw this after I decided to watch more because I keep making a mess of the yeiho …. Luckily I ordered the diction yesterday so 🤞🏼
THANK YOU! So wonderful to have this.
I have some from China I bought before I found you. Now I only use Let's Resin and J Diction. I hear Apex is good but it's GB only not US.
JDiction is on US amazon 👍
Thank you so much for this amazing review of various products. I have never dabbled in UV Resin and this type of comparison is exceptionally helpful in making a decision on which product to start with so I don't get a bad experience out of the gate in this part of my resin adventure! You sir, rock
Thanks for the information . Do you know anything about dipping resin ? Thanks again
I don't really have a comparison personally, but I had bought my first UV resin from green stuff world and am really happy with it ^^ was so surprised how clear, easy and fast to cure and hard it is and so far have not noticed any yellowing ^^
Fascinating - thanks for your testing, it saves us all money 😊
Someone is gonna get sued for false marketing 😂.
Excellent video. I've been testing various brands and keep finding myself disappointed in the finished product.
JDiction is my last test. Glad to see it'll live up to the hype.
Did JDiction work out well?
Thanks for the advice on the reins to use.
@@SteveMcDonaldArtsandCrafts you are my Guru for resin
Hi Steve, You left off Lightwish UV Resin which I have fell in love with, and like you I have used them all - Love your Videos 😍😍
Great video Steve. I am relatively new to this craft, and your videos are of great help.
I always like your tear and compare test thank you. I know from time to time you have talked about yellowing over time intervals and exposure to sunlight etc, with UV's But do UV resins hold up well over time.?
Great review thank you!!
I have a question. Does anyone happen to know how to soften resin dip? I bought some and it was hard upon arrival and I don’t know what to do with. I really want to use it, but I don’t know how to soften it again and since you are everything epoxy, and UV, I wanted to see your opinion.
did you actuarily use a nail drier to dry the resin?
Brilliant video Steve. Greatly appreciated 😊😊
@@pookysgirl7535 I do that each time to try and help avoid warping, but it is a good piece of advice, so thank you for asking/mentioning 💜
Thanks for the reviews. How do you combat the tackiness? I have the JDiction one and I can't seem to get rid of the tackiness. Drives me crazy
