    My first DSLR was an EOS 30D and the R10 really shows how hugely cameras have improved since then. This makes me really excited for the RP mark 2 or whatever they end up calling it.

    • @TeddyParker
      @TeddyParker 2 года назад

      I mean the 30d had a top LCD and better burst shot/shutter speed :) lol. We definitely compromise despite the amazing improvements in cameras, particularly active focus tracking.
      But that's the thing that made me sell my RP and regret bothering with it. It was slow. Awkwardly slow. I thought I was potentially getting an M50 with a full frame, and that was far from the case. Both the R and RP were underwhelming at the time. Just hyped because Canon mirrorless. I'd love to try R10/R7/R6/etc. however. They don't seem like hamfisted mirrorless attempts. They look polished.
      Sadly, Canon's products still have me glancing over at Sony with lustful eyes. Especially the prices of Canon's mirrorless vs Sony. Which is what caught me out. I thought Canon was gonna undercut everybody with amazing cameras and prices... But more recently Sony did that, with the a7c/a6600 and even the zv-e10.

    I remember when Canon first brought out the EOS R they kind of made it clear they were moving into the premium market ONLY with the mirrorless EOS R mount. What I think changed their minds was Nikons Z50 and how popular its been, I'm really glad to see the R7 has 2 (yes 2) UHS II card slots though I think Sony's multi-card slot is the way to go.

      The Nikon Z50 and the Zfc have shown the great interest in the market for APS-C. When comparing the R10 to the Nikon Z50, I would still prefer the latter, even if the Canon is newer: better body and more lenses to choose from. The R7 is another league that Nikon doesn't have an answer for yet.

    • @ziginox

      I'm curious to see if Sony will follow suit. Knowing how they like to show up Canon, we'll probably be seeing a new body from them in six months or so 😁

      @@ziginox I think it will be less time than that, you have to remember it's been some time since they last released an interchangeable lens APS-C mirrorless camera so it wouldn't surprise me if they already had something to "take off the shelf" before the end of the summer.

    I am very excited about the R7, maybe this will light a fire under other manufacturers. being a Sony shooter it is frustrating for the last five years we have been askingFor a high-end APSC camera and we're still getting the A6xxx little toys with a recycled sensor . I love my A1, but I would love to be able to have a good APSC body I could trust with a good battery life and good ergonomics

    I just got an R10. Using an adapter so I didn’t have to buy a bunch of new glass. So far I’m loving it. Definitely isn’t quiet though, and a bit of a “Rebel” feel. I don’t mind that tho. Saved a LOAD on glass compared to switching to Sony and the autofocus is a joy even with Ef/Ef-s glass.
    Edit: as someone who doesn’t get value from an external flash, I was pleasantly surprised to find a flash on the R10. Lil flash can go a long way. 🤘

      @nightowlnzab 2 года назад +4

      @@_mel.low_official This is true, issue I see is the two RF-S lenses so far aren't exactly exciting, and the good RF lenses cost a fair chunk of change. Folks who didn't have plans to upgrade to RF FF would probably get better bang for their buck with another system. Just feels like a bit of a repeat of EF-S and EF-M, just with a new mount.

    Only a matter of time before they phased out the EF-M. I think this strategy is a good one however since they'll be able to utilize the whole lens lineup. Most customers with limited camera experience I've met who were dead set in buying a mirrorless canon often overlooked the EOS-M system in favor of the RP, R and sometines even an R6. I think the R7 and R10 will give beginners and EF-s users a good and hopefully affordable way to go over to mirrorless and still get something very snappy and competent for all-round uses.

    • @eduarddelamettrie7785
      @eduarddelamettrie7785 2 года назад

      Mirrorless and DSLR cameras apparently have different customers (EF and EF-M both have had customers). I have a feeling that EOS-R is a trick to sell new lenses without the competition of the used EF lens market. Maybe DSRL customers will switch, but maybe they simply won't.

    • @Cahejo
      @Cahejo 2 года назад

      @@eduarddelamettrie7785 I've been working in a camera store since 2017 so I can give you some customer trend insights.
      When the EOS R and RP was released the reception wasn't poor but it wasn't really anything to write home about either. Sure people bought them but they rather bought a 5D IV for professional use since the EF lens lineup was and still is great.
      It wasn't until the R6 and R5 got released that *a lot* of canon users switched. Usually by trading in their 6D II, 5D III or 5D IV. I even got a few customers who traded in their almost brand new 1DX mk III cameras which is crazy to think about.
      The reason I've been told by customers is that the lens lineup is a lot better now than when the R and RP was released plus that the AF systems in the R5 and R6 is vastly better.
      I believe that when customers saw that the lens lineup started to really come to form the release of the R5 and R6 really set the great switch in motion. The R7 and R10 will simply speed up the process.

    I've been waiting for something like this from Sony to replace my aging A6300. I don't want to go FF because I don't want to carry heavy glasses, but Sony has been neglecting APS-C. I think this looks great and makes me seriously consider switching to Canon.

    • @DerVicko

      How have they been neglecting APS-C when there's the a6600? I don't remember the exact specs rn but wouldn't that be a reasonable upgrade instead of switching systems?

      It's strange to me that you want to divorce Sony for not caring about APS-C but then consider moving in with Canon.
      You may get good bodies in the R7 and R10, but Canon is well known for making bottom of the barrel APS-C glass and not opening up their mount specs to 3rd parties.
      If you want top tier APS-C gear, perhaps give Fuji a look.

    Kai tell me about noise and shadow recovery on the R7. The lenses brought forward are variable aperture lenses and if we use the 600 and 800 RF then they are F8 (+1.6). Light is a real problem for the R7. Canon has made a clear statement with the R7; from its design to the lenses Canon won’t take it as serious as the full frames!

      You don't lose light by using ff lenses on APS c camera, only when using a teleconverter.

    I really appeciate how fast the camera, especially the R7 is.
    Nonetheless i would still prefer a EOS RP (or even the EOS R!) over any of these. Mainly because of full frame. I was doing not much photography, but over the last 10-15 years always a bit, and always had APS-C entry level gear, first Canon EOS 350D new, then a 450D 2nd hand and later a very cheap (fked up) 550D.
    I really liked the 550D and still like it for better telerange/higher pixel density, but daaamn, especially with the RF 50mm 1.8 STM... the EOS RP is just AWESOME.
    I would say the Canon EOS RP + RF 50mm 1.8 is THE BEST and CHEAPEST entry in photography if you want to go directly fullframe (or alternative good 2nd hand DSLRs)
    Only how small and lightweight this setup of FF mirrorless+50mm prime is is awesome.

      eos rp = no 4k 60, no autofocus in 4k, 30 minute record limit, no 10bit 4:2:2 log, huge crop in 4k, less fps for photos, less megapixel, no digital hotshoe, older focusing system, no ibis. this is way better than the rp unless very low light, which the rp might still lose vs this new processor from the r3. honestly, if i had the rp i would sell it right away. even the eosr i would sell it and get the r7. you can always add a slight denoiser, but you cant get fps that didnt exist.

    • @kain0m

      Funny thing is, the R7 is better than the RP in basically every way. Full frame or not, the R7 runs rings around it in terms of performance, IQ, etc.

    Idk for the price and specs the older canon rp and eos r just seem like a better deal for only slightly different specs/size and being full frame
    For aps-c I think fuji and sony have perfectly filled that niche providing unique experiences apart from full-frame equivalents
