I'm hoping I can take the R7 out on hikes and to shoot sports and not worry about a little bit of very light rain.
Yes, there is an adapter for EF lenses. I've been using it on the R5 and R3 and it works like a charm. Don't hesitate to keep some of your old EF glass - the adapter is worth its money and produces images as if you'd be shooting on a camera that fits EF lenses.

I am considering upgrading my Fuji XT30 camera to a Sony A7IV, but this is quite tempting considering the price and weight. Looking forward to the full review. It's a shame the Canon RF 100-500 is so expensive! I wish there was something like the Sony 200-600 which is almost half the price!
I tried using the r7 with the EF 500mm f4 lens and it struggled with autofocus. I was photographing bald eagles scooping up smelt. I would lock onto the eagle and the autofocus would disengage and it would struggle to get another lock on the bird. I was using electronic first curtain, high burst mode (not H+). I used your recommended settings. Tomorrow I’ll use the RF 100-500mm f/7.1 lens and see if it will do better. Have you used the r7 with the 500mm f/4 and had any issues with focus lock?
Great video, very well done, I have ordered the R7 and can’t wait to try it out. I am looking forward to your full review of the camera, also great shots.
Great vlog, thank you. I see on this vlog that you've tried the R7 with the Canon RF 800mm f11. How well did the autofocus work with this lens on the R7 compared to the R5?
Congratulations to be the first on a short review of this exciting camera !! Yes, I am eager to get this camera and shoot wildlife with the RF 100-500. I suppose this is an ideal combination shooting with enough light. Under lower light you may continue with the R6 and a 70-200 f2.8.
Hi Sabine Great to see proper wildlife specialists like Pangolin getting a first look and very nice video Sabine , how does it perform in low light/high isos ? Thanks Noel
Wow, you really convinced me! I have ordered this camera although it is on back-order from the big photo stores in New York. I can't wait to have it for my next trip to Pangolin, hopefully some time in the not-too-distant future.
It was a genuinely nice review, and it has me second guessing my next planned upgrade (R6). However, I would like these cameras to be tested on lenses most of us can afford. The RF 100-500mm has me drooling, but it is out of reach for many of us.
Take out a loan! People take out a loan to get a house, a car, and heck, they often spend $100 on dinner which is over in like a half hour. If you love photography, go out and borrow to get what you want. You just have to decide how much you want your dream lens! Anyway, now that I got that out of the way, the R6 is fantastic. I don’t think you will be disappointed at all. I don’t really miss the crop sensors much, since I got used to full frame several years ago. We just have to see if the R7 is on par with noise levels. If it is, then it’s definitely the better option if you shoot birds mostly. I also debated upgrading from my 100-400 to the 100-500L. I just don’t think that lens is worth the upgrade. It’s too costly for what you get. You are better off with an older 500mm f4 lens to adapt and go. Good luck to you!
Glass is way more important than body. If you can't afford good glass then you certainly shouldn't be spending so much on a Canon R6 or R7. /humble bow
@@grahamfloyd3451 oh yes, 100 percent. You don’t know how many people spend 3500 bucks on an R5 and then stick a crappy tamron zoom on it. These days, the camera bodies have made a much bigger leap from the DSLR so this has shifted a little towards the importance of a better body though. But yes, glass is so important!
@@grahamfloyd3451 That's true. But in wildlife photography the animal eye tracking is a game changer. The amount of pictures you miss only because of the AF is huge, and the 15 FPS (or even 30) really make a difference for action images or flights. Usually for wildlife you can only save a few shots from each session, and very rarely you get "that one" shot where something interesting is going on with a perfect focus. But with the eye tracking sistem of the new R5 and R6 the number of keepers is way higher and the chance of getting the money shot increases a lot. And now you have that very same thing but in a 1500€ camera, and a 1.6x sensor and with IBIS too. Combined with the 100-500 RF you are now (easily) handholding a 800mm lens with almost perfect sharpness and a camera with top image quality. That's crazy. My best lens is the old 400mm F5.6 and I was saving for a better one, but as soon as I find out how the R7 really does at high ISO I'm definitely going for it.

Is the 18-150mm EF-S kit lens that comes with the R7 worth it? Or should I go with the full-frame RF lenses just in case I eventually upgrade to full frame?
Hi, I have one question that is most important to me as an event photographer, is it with the EF-EFS lens adapter in video photography Decreases the number of frames from 50 to 25 as in the camera R ? And thanks for the video, I really liked
Thanks for this nice pre-review ! Indeed R7 looks very strong for WL photography, so I have 2 questions : - Is the low resolution EVF OK ? - Is there a dedicated battery grip ?

Many thanks for this video, the information about the model. I am very thankful that the video exists. This is very helpful as a decision-making. I have a small question about the R7 and R10... Do they also have a sensor protector that covers the sensor when the lens is removed?
What are your thoughts on upgrading my 7dmkII to the R7 with adapter to use my 100-400mkII. How will the sensor perform in low light conditions? Awesome video thanks
I've been using a 7Dii and 100-400ii for outdoor daylight sports for the last 3 years (shooting jpg for onsite print sales). I'd upgrade in a heart beat if I could justify the cost. I think you'll find it outperforms the 7Dii in lowlight despite the higher mp count, although not by much and the af is a game changer. Not that my opinion matters, but I'd say you can't go wrong upgrading.
I haven't gotten a look at the bottom of the R7 anywhere... Does it appear to be able to be fitted with a battery grip? I use them on my DSLRs for long shooting sessions and so that I "only" need to carry six spares (with six other batteries in three cameras). If the R7 is power hungry like most mirrorless, I may need 2X or 3X as many batteries and spend more down time changing them out than I like! At least with a grip, batteries would only need to be swapped half as often.
A grip is a bad idea for long birding sessions hand held. The grip + 2nd battery is another 430gm you have to hold. Better to have spare batteries in your pocket.
Hello Sabine. I'm a beginner and just subscribed to your channel as I find your videos very helpful, interesting and uplifting. I wonder if you might do a short video to show how best to hand hold a big zoom lens. I've just bought an older canon lens f2.8 70-200mm IS which I love but I'm not sure how to hold it! No worries if you can't. Kind regards. Amanda (England)

Excellent review by someone who shoots every day, and guides and helps regular enthusiast photographers regularly. Have you tried the EF lenses on this camera? I particularly like the EF 70-300 II on my APS-C SLR. It is light, relatively small, has IS and a digestible price tag. Do you see your clients using this lens? Do they get good results? Other than the extra "reach" is this a better option than the "R" as a person's first "R family" camera? Craig
Hi Craig, Im using a 70-300 ef lens and it really doesnt beat the rf lenses. The glass is quite old technology and something like the 100-400 L mk2 is way better, its just very heavy. the 100-500 rf is the one, but its a bit expensive for me. An everyday lens that I have come to love is the 18-135 ef, very nice and quite sharp even in low/ish light..
Looks quite nice but I am a bit disappointed that the option to add a battery grip is not possible with the R7. I find the grip makes the camera much more ergonomic and the addition of rear controls for vertical shooting is helpful; a battery grip also balances the camera better when hand holding long telephoto lenses. And of course having the extra battery is a plus when you are out all day shooting and using all the extra things like IS and Servo focus which add to the battery load.
That is true, but I am 100% sure Canon or someone aftermarket will bring out a battery grip for the R7. The battery actually lasts the whole day, and if you only take photos of what you want, over 600 photos per outing is plenty. Lets hope that grip comes out soon….
Thank you for the super positive comments everybody...much appreciated.

I'm certain only the R7 has the sensor curtain or protector.
@@georgeewart52 Big thanks for the hint. It's very helpful for my decicion.
Does this focus in 4K ? Because I have the rp and I might sell it to get the R7
Thanks for the review. Could you please share a CRAW raw sample from R7 and R10?
No RAW files available as this was pre production. Only jpegs. Sorry
Woah. You guys are elite!!
Oops. Someone mis-scheduled their first look review video, lol. Thanks for sharing! Great review!
Low Light and Portrait with low DoF would be nice
Hi Sabine, great video !
will there be a battery grip with it ?
Wonderful review 👍love from India 🇮🇳
Thank you
Hello Sabine.
Ignore this. Its spam. Toby
Thank you Toby 😁
The kind of R7 preview/hands on we were all looking for. Not the specs. But the experience on field.
Good job! ALL-I or IPB recording in video ?
When is the review coming?
Great review thank you. Affordable quality mirrorless at last.
This Is not affordable.
@@burritobrosvideos8060 its affordable. phones are at 1000 bucks. gotta pay to play. imo 1000 to 2000 is good spot for starters.
@@truthseeker6804 no one pays 1k for their phones. They wait until there is a deal with a service provider that gifts them a phone. It's not, you're out of touch
Thanks for watching!
@@burritobrosvideos8060 according to you, no one pays 1000 for thier phone but waits for gifts. lmao. go watch apple store on launch day and see how many people are buying, even the website crashes. youre actually out of touch with reality. people are waiting for gifts? lmao.
Hows does the low resolution EVF and rear display feel compared to the R5?
@Benjamin Mesa i will find out soon enough. Just pre-ordered one 😁
R7 arrived yesterday. No issues whatsoever with lower res EVF. Can barely see the difference compared to my R5
Will the full frame RF mount lenses suffer on an APSC body? I'm debating on selling my Lumix G9 and 100-400 combo and go to the OM1 or possibly this.
@Benjamin Mesa Probably gonna go OM1. That Canon sensor is old and usually gets outperformed by MFT plus the decent lenses are pretty expensive still.
Great review! Thanks!!

Canon 90d vs r7 which good camera video purpos
Does it has GPS?
Thanks
Great video! I am sharing your link with everyone!
Awesome thank you!
Does it have image stabilization?
Great work!
Thank you! Cheers!
