- Are you detail oriented, or more of a big picture person? Science says that when confronted with numbers/stats, or with the story of an individual, the individual's story will illicit more empathy in you. But why are we more inclined to feel for the individual in a group rather than the group as a whole? Watch to find out!

You guys always teach me something new and something that I can actually incorporate into my day to day life so thankyou. I appreciate all of your hard work.
I love this serie so much :) Empathy is what makes us strong as a whole, if we stand together we are all better of, never let your brothers and sisters fall through the cracks of society.
Deep Respect Julian!! Very very well done stuff. Total Fan!!
These videos need more views!!
I love this series so much. As an epath myself I enjoy you helping me learn more about me.
Identifying as an empath is empathy gone wrong. It takes arrogance and grandiosity to turn ones ability to engage in empathy into ones own identity. You are not your abilities.

I miss the "Tell My Story" blind dates so much. 😞😞😞
I'm addicted to this content. I read a book with similar content, and I'm addicted to it. "The Art of Meaningful Relationships in the 21st Century" by Leo Flint

I never give money to homeless it's not save I just buy food for them
it shouldn't matter what they do with the money because your duty is just to give because you can and it shouldn't be about what they do with your money just be happy that you give.

Empathy is important, but we need to act on it right. Giving money to the homeless won't help. They will still be homeless. We need to teach they skills, take them.on as employees, and provide opportunity for them.
Pan handling is illegal most states and it's a huge pain for most everyone, especially women, who they tend to harass more (because women are usually more compassionate).
You can't give them a home, but then not give them a way to pay for it or pay for the food or electricity or clothes they also need. You can't give them food, and not any clothes or shelter. Give them a job, and they can provide for themselves.
I agreed with you that giving money to the homeless won't help. But I think this will apply only on long term help. I agreed with your suggestion also, but I think for average guy like me, who havent get a settle job, not rich or powerful enough to help them, to teach them skills, or to give them a job, but helping them to get a meal by giving some dollars I think is the least that I could do for this moment. I have watched some investigation on how the homeless people could be organized by some people or fake their state / act like homeless to make people empathize them or even make this like a "job" that cant give them pretty good monthly income without work. But in the end we never know if they are truly in need or just want to "deceive" us for their living. It's just feel like I justified my action to not help them by this thought if I didnt help them. Ofc we still need to help them wisely.
Very good points. as a math teacher and social work major my only question is a "job" is step number 2.....most homeless now in CA is working homeless....high rent. I dont have all the answers just some food for thought!
You're speaking as though these people didn't have lives before they became homeless? A lot of them do have the skills you've mentioned already, they've just struck bad luck. Giving them money does help them... we all need to eat. Showing compassion is what most of us can do and we shouldn't just stop that because we need to give them bigger and better opportunities. I don't dispute that the opportunities are needed but we can still help them in little ways as well.
> Empathy is important, but we need to act on it right.
Bret Weinstein of DarkHorse Podcast fame has a line I like: "compassionate policy requires dispassionate analysis". Empathy is useful, but it's only an ingredient in _part_ of the problem.
For example, if ~600k are homeless each night and the US has a population of ~300M, that means one in 2000 is homeless each night.
If the other 1999 people each donated $1 for every $2000 they earn, the homeless could have an average income.
Please do the math: divide your yearly income by 2000. Are you okay donating that much to the homeless each year? How do you want to donate: individually or to e.g. a shelter? Given that not everyone donates, can you do more than your fair share? Do you want to?
> Giving money to the homeless won't help.
I think it helps with short term immediate needs, like food. It reduces the suffering of those who are homeless. It may not do much to bring down the number of people who are homeless, which is also important. IOW, I half-agree with this statement and agree a lot with your overall sentiment.
I am detail oriented 0:44

Irrelevant without kid president
Why is empathy an assumed good? Is giving cash to the homeless really a net benefit to society? Overly emotional/empathetic thinking can lead to very irrational decision making not in anyone's long-term interest.
This video seems to encourage under-informing your audience, and playing up emotional propaganda.
DON'T BLAME THE GOVERNMENT NOT TAKING CARE OF THEIR SOLDIERS AT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are SHILLLY silly.
Empathy is a human flaw. Sympathy is ok but empathy is degenerate.
Tyquaan Staton-Fuller I think you have it reversed. Empathy is something everyone should have. Sympathy does nothing
Incorrect my friend
Empathy is what make us human. it is a beautiful quality that means you are open enough not to focus only on yourself
Elaborate please. A statement is nothing without an explanation.
Other way around, Sympathy not only serves no purpose. But it's also a selfish act. Showing sympathy is simply saying "Wow, I feel so bad for those people." Even though you don't feel anything and simply act in accordance to comformity. Sure you may see their emotions, but you don't truly feel those same emotions. Which is why Empathy is superior because when you feel those emotions you are more likely to act in accordance to them.
