- What makes a happy family? How do you know if you're doing a good job as a parent? Inspired by Zach Braff's latest movie, "Wish I Was Here" we decided to bring in real parents, with their children, to set up an experiment and find out more.

I hate being so emotional like seriously I started crying when the parents were answering the questions XD im too much for myself
Well, I'm with you. I don't know why, but I started that moment too.
The bit that got me was when the kids said they worry about their parent. I am a single mother to a 2 year old boy, the thought that one day he'd worry for me is kinda heartbreaking! Kids shouldn't need to worry about adult things or whether their patents are happy! But at the same time, it showed just how much love they had for their patents which is a lovely thing!
Same! I'm not even a parent but got super emotional. Love the Science of Happiness videos.
My inner parent is making my outward single self weep.

This is a very uplifting episode between parents and their children. Seems that those kids think like adults. This video gives us a lesson that we should give or spend quality time with our families. This is an eye-opener for everyone.

In absolute sincerity, these videos make me extremely happy. I have trouble sleeping usually because my head just ends up a bad place, but watching your videos for the past while has helped in a way I can't describe, being happy, thank you so very much for the content you make.

Megan Berthold I Thought the same. Sometimes it´s sad because i dont want them to be worried about me when i´m down. They should be kids and play and have fun. They need early enough life and all the downsides to know.

This is really beautiful. The father with the 8 year old girl is such a traditional responsible father. Beautiful father. I wished I knew my dad and wish he had the mind just like her father does. I pray it works out for them.

The dad in the band hit the nail on the head. My mom always place such a huge focus on going on a vacation, but what she didn't know was that all I wanted was designated one-on-one time doing something as simple as making pasta with sauce for dinner and watching my favorite movie(plus singing all the songs) would have meant the world to me.
I wish it was possible to have a new episode at least twice a week for the Science of Happiness. But you said it best, Quality over Quantity!

I think I've always had a lot of quality time with my dad even though he works a lot whereas on the contrary my mom always says that she raised my brother and I almost on her own but it doesn't feel like we ever had quality time. She cared for our basic needs but we never really bonded over anything.
I am doing a research for my final paper in class subject on "Family Happiness" and I must say, this video brought me tears; children do notice. Great Job guys I am surely subscribing to this channel

I wish my parents could realize that they needed or need to be there FOR me. When I tell them that they should care for me more they respond in a negative way. "Oh you're lucky you didn't have to do this Like me when I was younger" "you get everything you want" um no I don't and I don't really care for objects. I just want them to be more positive and stop making judgments and to enjoy life. It's not like it's we are suffering financially or something. Loving each other is easy, but they're not willing to try.
To the people that were in this video YOU ARE NOT ALONE on the typical struggles and stresses that us Humans go through everyday.
I really needed to watch this today! These videos are my happy place.

I am reminded of this story:
SON: “Daddy, may I ask you a question?”
DAD: “Yeah sure, what is it?”
SON: “How much do you make an hour?”
DAD: “That’s none of your business. Why do you ask such a thing?”
SON: “I just want to know. Please tell me, how much do you make an hour?”
DAD: “If you must know, I make $100 an hour.”
SON: “Daddy, may I please borrow $50?”
The father was furious and said, “If the only reason you asked that is so you can borrow some money to buy a silly toy or some other nonsense, then you march yourself straight to your room and go to bed. Think about why you are being so selfish. I work hard every day for my money.”
The little boy quietly went to his room and shut the door.
The man sat down and started to get even angrier about the little boy’s questions. How dare he ask such questions only to get some money?
After about an hour or so, the man had calmed down, and started to think: Maybe there was something he really needed to buy with that $ 50 and he really didn’t ask for money very often.
The man went to the door of the little boy’s room, and opened the door and asked his son if he was awake and the boy replied that he was.
DAD: “I’ve been thinking, maybe I was too hard on you earlier. It’s been a long day and I took out my aggravation on you. Here’s the $50 you asked for.”
The little boy sat straight up, smiling, and said, “Oh, thank you daddy!”
Then, reaching under his pillow the boy pulled out some crumpled up bills. The man saw that the boy already had money, started to get angry again. As the little boy slowly counted out his money, his father asked, “Why do you want more money if you already have some?”
SON: “Because I didn’t have enough, but now I do. Daddy, I have $100 now; can I buy an hour of your time? Please come home early tomorrow. I would like to have dinner with you.”
The father was crushed. He put his arms around his little son, and he begged for his forgiveness.

These kids have amazing parents. I'm thankful I have both of my parents but it sucks when your dad seems to think merely being a good provider is good enough and never spends real quality time with you.

this is such a great series. well done. i enjoy and get so much from these videos.
I am not a parent but i liked this and my mom finds time to sleep she has a night job on sundays and fridays. She sleeps the whole day on friday and sunday but we still have breakfast and stuff. And the other days of the week are normal.
I am somehow fighting my tears to stay inside.
