    Thanks for the shout out 😁 it really goes to show the lack of compassion and empathy of some assessors. My assessment was 2 hours and I felt that was long, particularly when 90% of the information I gave was a repeat of what was on the form and in the documents I sent. She had read them as she asked me some very specific questions around the content in the documents. They should be able to look at the form and work out if its a more complex case and going to take more than the standard hour and give you a more realistic time.

      Thank you for providing the information which we otherwise may have missed ! sorry to hear yours was that long it seems a little long winded thats for sure, and your right 90% of the stuff you provide and answer is already on the dam form they choose not to read it.

    I had a fall, in the garden, and banged my head just before my assessor arrived. I had obvious concussion, was confused and dazed. She made me sit through a 2.5 hr assessment (without concern for my e wellbeing) and said in her report that I was well kempt (even tho my clothes had mud all over them). I'm currently waiting for my next assessment.

      @wendymudkins8208 - Partly it is their attitude, partly it seems to be a postcode lottery. A friend could not get to their assessment centre because it was upstairs! (I am not joking) so they were visited at home and were not even asked to walk - at all - by the assessor, who was apologetic about the situation. The assessor still made loads of mistakes, but my friend got their PIP.

    Before my first PIP assessment I phoned them to ask for it recording, I used a local phone box to make the call it cost me over £5 for the call, I could have withheld my number but a friend had told me he did this and they were cut off every time he called them to ask for his assessment to be recorded in early 2014. When I turned up they said the recording equipment wasn't available but I had covertly started recording from when I was outside the centre. My daughter said I should go ahead with the assessment, I didn't want too, but said I would have the assessment anyway. When I got outside I took the Dictaphone out of my pocket and turned it off, even my daughter didn't know I'd recorded it but I downloaded it to my PC when I got home and it was clear that the assessor was trying to get answers that didn't relate to any of my medical conditions. I had let my daughter answer all the questions they asked and just didn't say anything when the first question was asked so she had to refer to my daughter with the questions asked as I just sat there looking dumb when she later asked me a question later on and I said nothing. In the report I sent for as a FOI it stated that I had answered the question she had asked me but later referred to the question that she asked me that my daughter had answered it. You couldn't make it up, but I got an award of enhanced on both parts of PIP. It's a pity the PC's HDD broke a few months after I had downloaded the recording but by that time I had being awarded the enhanced rates of PIP.

    The whole process is punishing. It beats you down. I had a 3 hour PIP home assessment. I had fatigue and whole body arthritis, brain fog, crohns and UC, EDS, and 3 hours of trying to interact, answer a constant stream of questions. By the end I was a mental wreck as mental and physical fatigue took over after the first hour. Afterwards I was worried that I was so confused and fatigued I had not been able to answer the repeated questions consistantly or recall if I had been prompted to answer a particular way. This was about 8 years after I had qualified for DLA in 2008, so a long time with progressively disabling conditions that don't get better! After all that the award was exactly the same as before, but I honestly thought it would be zero the way the "examination" (interrigation) went.

    My son has a learning disability, also mental health problems, so any assessment that he has to go to, is detrimental to his health, when this benefit changed from DLA to PIP he lost his DLA and failed the assessment, he was at this time in his mid 30’s, so I set things up so someone could go with him and fight to get what he was due to! He has had this benefit since he was a child! He had to pay this person 70% for the backdated money, he now has got it back! I understand that the DWP are going to check and these type of people are going to be getting their money back, but they have to contact the DWP!

    Hi, I have only just found the channel, in the last couple of weeks, but it has been interesting. I am in receipt of PIP and get the full award, but only after a mandatory reassessment and the threat of a tribunal - DWP pulled out of the tribunal when they realised I wasn't going to be frightened into accepting a lower award simply to avoid the tribunal process. What happened to this lady is utterly horrible, it is not just "one of those things", it is thoughtless and cruel, but sadly, it doesn't surprise me.
    When I had my pre-assessment, some time ago, I had bladder problems and needed to be able to get to the toilet quickly. I said this to the assessor on the phone and my pre-assessment still took well over the hour. This was partly because the person had a strong Geordie accent and every time I asked her to repeat a phrase, she could not do so without going back to the very beginning of that section of her script and repeating everything from the beginning of that section. She seemed unable to remember what she had just said and to reply to me without losing her place. This was worrying, in its own right, because it was clear she was not thinking about what she was saying and only repeating the script by rote. This made me worried that she might not get the correct information.
    When I complained about this and about the time it was taking, she said she had emphysema, which made her speech less clear, and she had been on sick-leave. I felt sorry for her, but felt (and still feel) that if she was not capable of doing the job without losing her place or being able to clarify what she was saying without repeating every paragraph, then she should not have been doing the job, quite apart from her breathing problems.
    In the end, she was angry at me for taking longer, as if my difficulties in understanding were entirely of my own making. As I had to repeat all of the information on the application form and most of it again at the actual assessment, I cannot see what use the pre-assessment is. The person on the phone cannot see the applicant, they cannot assess them, their disability or honesty, etc., so they should simply take contact details and send out the forms. When the forms arrived, they were stamped with "If you no longer wish to proceed with this claim, ring: . . ." The whole process is designed not only to catch fraudulent claimants but, to be as unpleasant and humiliating as possible, with little or no regard for the dignity or even the safety of claimants. It is utterly shameful that we are the only UN signatory to be in breach of disability rights provision.

    If you can't get anyone to be with you then DEMAND that your assessment is recorded and that you have a copy of that recording before they leave.

    Besides being disabled from birth and at sixty severely mobility impaired, I suffer (at the very least) with severe IBS, diverticulitis and frequent prolonged bowel bleeds, I was made to wait for access to a toilet in the WCA offices in Ilford. When they finally escorted me to a toilet, there was no toilet paper. Glady I'm wise enough to always carry some, otherwise I might still be stuck in that disgustingly filthy staff toilet.
    I'm currently 'patiently' waiting for my fourth PIP tribunal in almost as many years, to once again have my DLA severe disability entitlement reimbursed and fully reinstated AGAIN, after being slashed in half yet again and my mobility car entitlement (only means of independence) again denied for six months now, effectively reducing me to a widowed housebound pensioner, with no family or friends to rely on for support.

      Pension Credit also is given to pensioners that the Government deems to be needing it. After years of getting it they now have the bright idea that the lowest paid pensioners are now to be 'watched' and have a 'burden of proof' to justify what was granted to them beforehand. Someone should take a test case of council tax arrears, some going back to the poll tax, being taken directly off claimants benefits when it’s not actually known how much is owed and when the arrears will be paid off. The claimant would win and there would be tens of thousands of people repaid at least some of the monies they paid.

      @planzed.2 I am sorry for you. My experience with DWP was very negative, but since PIP I have had more health issues and have been in and out of A&E and in and out of hospital/Rehab centres/out patients and surgery. I have mostly had really good care and really kind and respectful staff. The only problem was when an ambulance guy visited and refused to accept that my symptoms required hospital. He was supposed to be "very busy", but was still hanging about over an hour later, when the ambulance came to take me to hospital. He came back and began chatting to a male staff member from this second ambulance. Neither of them did anything to help me get into the ambulance and were both rude and dismissive, even when I was at risk from vomiting and did nothing to help me get into a safe position. The female paramedic and the staff at A&E were very helpful and, I think, quite annoyed at these two men. They are the only people I can think of in the last 5 years who were like that and I cannot think of anyone quite so bad every before. I do realise that some NHS areas seem to be a lot worse than mine. I am in a large city and A&E can be very busy, esp. at weekends, but apart from the time issue, no one has been rude or disrespectful. Indeed, one young person in A&E said it was better than their home town because the staff respected the young person's sexuality and how they wished to be addressed, which they hadn't experienced previously.

She lied and said there was no problem with my spacial awareness, balance or co-ordination (knowing full-well those were my disability symptoms that had just happened right in front of her). • @charleshayes2528
      @charleshayes2528 2 месяца назад

      @markh1940, but that is precisely why they make it difficult, even when you should get the full amount. They send it to mandatory reassessment and even to Tribunal, hoping that you will accept what they offer instead of what you could get. In my case, they dropped the Tribunal just before the hearing and gave me my full PIP, in other words, they were playing "chicken", even though it cost more money, more delays and more stress for me. When they get to Tribunal, they lose the majority of cases, so they clearly aren't prosecuting genuine fraud in most instances; they are just trying to frighten people into giving in. Every failed case costs loads more money, but they don't care about spending cash on trying to stop people claiming, they only resent giving money to those who need it.
      Compared to when I first applied for a disabled vehicle (1970s) they have reduced the distance that you can walk and still qualify, supposedly to target those who really need it. But even if you can walk just past 20 metres, it is highly unlikely that you can find a bus stop less than 21 metres away and depending upon your disability, unlikely that you can get on. In my old home town, they are thinking of shutting down the only two bus routes that go to the estate where I lived. So, it won't matter what distance the disabled can manage, if they haven't got PIP they won't be able to afford the massively expensive taxis or the even more expensive private hire.

    Now the D.W.P. have started TALKING DIRTY, they are very happy to take money and give it to thousands of others despite complaints of tax money being given away to thousands of them, and not a word is said about being fair to the British tax payer, not one, even though everyone is complaining, yet when it comes to our women`s rights to money from our heritage fed tax pot the D.W.P. are claiming that these women require to be pitched against the British tax payer in a statement that said " on considering Waspi women we must be fair to the British tax payer" what are you on about D.W.P. pointing fingers at these women that are fairly owed unlike the other ones that they pay money to just for coming here
    Do not incite the targeting of English women to pay your debts, Waspi women are owed and it is nothing to do with where the D.W.P. are paying out to in taxes , or is it?

      The windrush generator getting deported, contaminated blood victims scandal, councils going bankrupt due to population pressures (see national influx of recent years) and council's historical underpayment of female staff all now coming back to haunt the Government as there's no money left. Labour will be worse as that plank of wood they're lining up to be the prime minister wants back into Europe despite his hollow assurances. Vaccine injured individuals will have to fight for years to come for adequate payments and Reform will ironically reform nothing other than some business rules for Tice and his friends.

      @annmariesim1405, did you get your PIP in the end? Quite a lot of claims are turned down and then have "mandatory reassessment", they may get turned down again and be referred to Tribunal, but the DWP will then sometimes back down just before the Tribunal date - as they did in my case - or the DWP goes to Tribunal and in the majority of cases, loses. That is, they are both delaying payment and wasting money on the costs of the delays and the court costs of the Tribunal, even though they know they will almost certainly lose. The tactic of going as close to Tribunal date as possible is intended to frighten the client, in the hope that they will accept a lower payment rather than the Tribunal.

  • @markanderson1008
    @markanderson1008 2 месяца назад +7

    Why did it take 3 hours. The people at the DWP can't make you stay phone that long when you need the loo. I had two pip assessments from being put on the long term sick at age 59 . Started at £99 every 4 week to £560 . I have osteoarthritis in both knees and morbid obesity . I had to reapply twice the people doing the assessments . Have been very friendly . I get the Citizens Advice Bureau to fill from in. Because my hand write is poor . To be honest there doctor with better writing and me . Every time I've been assessed it has taken a hour each time . I recently had a universal credit review. My god this woman from universal credit could not be more unfriendly if she tried .

    • @charleshayes2528
      @charleshayes2528 2 месяца назад

      When my wife and I went to universal credit, they told us that specialist disability advisers were no longer available to the disabled clients; instead normal staff did the interviews and passed information on to the disability advisers, who made a decision without ever seeing or assessing the client. The guy refused to learn how to pronounce my first name and kept calling me "buddy". He also referred to my life-long disability as a "health issue" and demanded a sick-note, to be renewed by my doctor, every three months, to support my claim that I could not spend 35 hours a week in the job centre looking for work - with no accessible toilet and with the only toilet being on another floor with the additional requirement that all clients had to be accompanied to the toilet by a security guard. Explaining that my disability wasn't an illness or a health issue and wasn't going to get better had no impact on the interviewer. He did not care, it was water off a duck's back, except most ducks are nicer than he was. He was all smiles as long as we fitted his boxes, but as soon as I began to complain that I wasn't ill, I was disabled, he got chillier and chillier. His inability to pronounce my name was also my fault and I should not mind being called "bud" or "buddy".

      Possibly down to the number of conditions or the complexity of them, I have 7 conditions, a couple are quite complex and mine took 2 hours and some parts were quite rushed even at that. Just going through the conditions and confirming meds, side effects etc at the end took about 45 minutes. So I can see if you have a lot going on it takes longer than the 1 hour they state in the letter. My assessor too was ok, she said she was a nurse and seemed knowledgeable about 1 of my conditions, but it's clear parts of the assessment process are to try and catch you out. My consultants letters I sent in listed the majority of the information they needed as did my form. The process could have been shorter and in my honest opinion if you have sent in recently dated letters as evidence they should be taking the information given by a doctor rather than making you go through it all again.

    • @markanderson1008
      @markanderson1008 2 месяца назад

      Ok the conditions you suffer from. Can make the assessment go longer and a hour . At the point I needed the loo I would end the call . It would not matted what the person from the DWP said at that point. They can't stop you from use the loo. I do realise that some people are more timid and I am . I am not . There two things that don't work on my body knees and legs . Rest me work fine

    These telephone assesments are stupid, 9 times out of ten you rememember something you should have mentioned and there is no call back number or no office address of the person calling you and no surname of the person calling you so that you can contact them, what is the point of giving all your most personal information to a person who cannot be contacted? I will not be answering the phone to any unknown numbers and will not speak to anyone who will not give me a call back number and a surname so they can be traced.

      I think most of the assessments are ridiculous. What happened to the day when they just used to go on medical evidence and give you an award? Lately, it seems that you're guilty until proven innocent with them. It's completely shocking how they treat disabled people and how they attempt to trick you with multiple questions leading to the same answers. They're an absolute joke.

    I was assessed wrongly years ago and got a backdated payment of almost £20k
    I knew I was being robbed but was too scared to appeal
    They also knew part of my condition is 'Not being able to manage finances, especially large amounts'
    So it was frittered away in no time, so called friends took advantage as I have mental health issues as well, however in those 5yr when I didn't get that money, I lost several teeth which that money would've paid for as my dentist was going to help, but I couldn't afford it
    Plus they kept the interest
    That was about 2yr ago, now I'm up for an assessment again ?
    I have a degenerative complex back problem from a rare form of polio when I was a child, no surgery can help now
    I'm sure I have a letter somewhere saying 'Your condition isn't going to improve so we won't ask for anymore assessments' but they are saying that was only for covid?
    Just feel awfully drained....

      @DynamicDuoUK  2 месяца назад

      They love to catch people out on that one. They either score you higher points in that section or the mobility moving around section. The best thing I found with the planning and following a route of a journey is how much stress that would cause you if you had to do it by yourself, for example, if you was in a car with your carer and a road was closed could you then change direction and find the location yourself etc without any help without causing distress if not then it's an auto 12 points regardless as what anyone else tells you, they love to lie and claim otherwise as they don't like being challenged. Remember they don't class a sat navigation as an aid which again is rubbish.

It is embarrassing enough to be on the phone, to have to do the necessary whilst keeping the conversation going isn't easy and no, I will not put the phone on speakerphone whilst going to the loo. As for sitting on the toilet and waiting until the call has finished before leaving, who wants to do that for an hour, let alone two or more. If I take my phone with me, it is only to say, "let me call you back". No way am I going to try to get from my chair to the loo with only one hand free because the other is holding the phone to my ear. If the interviewer is prepared to wait while I get there, they can have the courtesy to wait for me to go and come back.

She possibly needs to hold on to things when getting on and off the loo and unless she already has adaptations to her home that can be difficult at best.
