As requested here is a review of my Chisholm lead reels. I do recommend them and i say they are worth the bit of money you will spend on them. Hope yall enjoy!
My buddy had similar lead reels, and to secure his leads he got two metal black steel 5 gallon buckets, ran them over each reel, drilled a hole top and bottom of each bucket and ran a piece of 3/4” rebar thru it and welded a washer at the bottom so he could lock his up. Looks real good too!
hey man i just saw the notification tonight of your message and the video. thanks again for making the review it was very helpful and i look forward to more videos
I have the same reels. What’s the bracket for on the main post? There’s a diamond partially cut out and a semicircle at the top. I have an idea of what it is but I’m thinkin ‘I can’t be right…’ lol do you or anybody know!??
I guess that’s why they make em plastic. I’ve never thought about that. Mine broke too and it pissed me off that they’re plastic but they can’t be a conductor bc the paint fails quickly and would definitely get back to your bed/truck. Coat the pin in something so it doesn’t conduct the reel lead is the best fix imo. They NEED to be metal or they are going to break on ya. No doubt about it.
The reel is electrically isolated from the base via nylon bushings and spacer plate. Its a simple elegant concept but overall the construction quality is poor.
I've had this reel set for a couple years. They have not held up well at all. They are perhaps the worst investment I've ever made with regards to tools, in fact.
Yes they are! I really like them. Only complaint is the plastic latch pins because they break easily. They have to be plastic though to insulate against the current in the reel.
Mine are 4 years old. I have a bearing going out and the plastic pins both broke the first year. I haven’t replaced even thought I bought some aluminum solid stock to do the replacement work. Lol mediocre reels for the money imo. They do the job but damn if they aren’t expensive for what they are.

I'd like to see a pic of that!

Nice set up, I have the same reels
Nor perfect but get the job done
Mine reels only have one block on the positive reel it doesn’t have a block on the negative lead so I’m kind of confused
How is your machine holding up? Does the current effect the machine in any way?
Could the spring locks cause this thing to short out? I figure they would put that latch insulated as well.
Ypu typically dont weld with the latches locked into place. So no problem there. The latches that come with them are plastic so no problem.

When welding the reel is hot, is that safe?
By hot you mean energized by the welder i assume?

They went out of Business first part of this year
Yessir. I heard that from a supply house rep.
Are they still holding up?
