It looks like I know what I’m doing with the design but guys this is the SECOND time I’m drawing it. The first time I totally forgot the corner markers which led to a complete restart 🤷♂️ I’m happy I made that mistake so I could highlight it in this tutorial. What I’m not so happy with is forgetting to clip my nails before shooting 😩 (Adding that to my seemingly endless video production checklist)
Angrymikko......can you somehow make the canvas size big for big prints like duvet cover using procreate? What would be your workflow process in that case?
I watch your videos while I try to make that my 2 months old baby sleep, it is quite stressing because she doesn’t stop crying but as soon as I put your videos she inmediately stops and watches the bright colors and listen to your voice... so you are our pacifier now... 🤷♀️
My daughter also loves to watch art youtubers to fall asleep. We started out with Bob Ross, but she likes this kind of stuff too. She's 5 lol. We are the best moms ever.
Thank you! I’ve played with tiled patterns in Painter years ago. I’ve been wanting to be able to do the repeats in ProCreate. Now with the 5X the snapping is much better. I have watched several techniques. I don’t know if yours is better, but at last it makes simple sense to me. The throw-away dots in the corners are brilliant. And your demo of how to check it 4-up was very useful to.
Thank you so much, I have watched so many procreate pattern how to’s and your was the easiest to understand. I really appreciate it! ❤️🇦🇺 new sub from Australia
I am so glad I found your channel. I hadn't been drawing or painting for months and months after quitting in frustration, but since I found your Procreate 5x walkthrough, and through that your other videos, I've been using Procreate every day and having a blast. Thank you. :-)
The last time I made tiling patterns was years ago when I used to use ClipStudio, I’m so excited to get back into it! Thanks for the tutorial, it’s so helpful to see the process demonstrated so clearly and simply.
Can't wait to make some cool prints/wallpapers. Didn't even know that I wanted to do this until now, thanks for the inspiration and the knowledge, friend!
You might take the original biger picture and twist it 180 degreas and make it monocrome as a background for your last picture. It will then be two repeting patterns in different directions and sizes.
I was having the same issue with the transform tool not going to the edge. Instead of making the layer with the green dots in the corner, you can swipe your image layer and swipe your color filled layer together and the transform tool will be at the right place at the edge. Even if you want a white background it's important to add a layer on top of background and fill with white. Then on new layer(s) make your design. Then swipe all layers including white layer as a group and the transform tool will work correctly.
This does work too for those that understand this description. I just wanted to mention that you always need a duplicate of the filled layer because moving it to the halfway point automatically deletes half of it. You can also just select the entire layer, copy it and paste it after the initial movement is done as this process needs to be repeated several times to achieve this tiling effect. You can also expand the snap radius from movement controls which makes the entire process less fiddly no matter which method you go with. Expand snap radius makes it easier to dock the layers to the desired position.
Thanks it worked out nicely at first try, not so complicated as I first tought, kind of logical, even if a built in function in Pro Create wouldn't be to much to ask for.
Hello Mr Mikko ! Your work is always so inspiring to me ! In fact you’re the reason I bought an iPad ! One question, what do you think about matte screen protector ? Have you tried one ? Do you use one ? Does it make the drawing experience that much better ? Thanks
Mikko this is soo cool! I love the design! I love the way you teach, it’s easy to follow along and it truly makes me wanna just dive right into it🥰 Thank you! Keep up the amazing work ♡ - Agie :3
Hi, thank you for your sharing! Can you share which type of file, and which size is normally requested when selling in sites like Microstock websites, of Print on demand sites? Thanks a ton!
you can set the resize units into centimeters or inches so just set it to whatever print size you're making. Just make sure the dpi is at least 300 or above. I use 300-400dpi for all my work.
This is just for my iPad wallpaper. I do all the colour profile changes on my pc. Some print services don’t use cmyk files because their process is built for doing the conversion so depending on where you print you might want to ask about it in advance. I once edited all my prints for a shop and turned out it was all time wasted because they were unusable with their machines.
If you want to stack your pattern like a brick wall; 50%offset is easy by just using the snapping. However, if you have a specific number in mind like 33% offset you can create a new canvas that is both 33% of your target patterns width and 67%for the rest. By bringing a filled layer from those files you can have a measurement layer for setting a custom offset. This would work because snapping also applies to other layers. Obviously it would require a bit more planning so I’d recommend getting comfortable with the normal offset logistics first.
I just like seeing through the lines because my lines are rarely part of the final piece. I wouldn’t want to accidentally colour pick black so I often keep my line art layers at very low opacity. Btw the lineart is 100% optional. If you want to make a design without a sketch then I say go for it ☝️
6b pencil has a maximum size cap that can be adjusted in the brush studio. The brush is more like a 6b pencil in it’s default form but this is just a personal preference of mine.

If your pattern is for physical printing you also need to make sure you're working in CMYK and not RGB!

How would you do a staggered pattern?
If you want to stack your pattern like a brick wall; 50%offset is easy by just using the snapping.

What is the purpose of setting the sketch to multiply?
I just like seeing through the lines because my lines are rarely part of the final piece. I wouldn’t want to accidentally colour pick black so I often keep my line art layers at very low opacity.
Btw the lineart is 100% optional. If you want to make a design without a sketch then I say go for it ☝️
