    Since there is no immediate uprising about my virtual studio I’m going to keep going with my green screen shenanigans ☝️ Video production is a long process and it was fun to have a silly new element for myself to tinker with. I hope I can do one art video from a train or space 🌌. Expect nonsense on that front ☝️

    I am a self taught artist and youtube have been my school and I found this video of yours plus another video showing how the shadows projected by an object are the of the opposite hue of the light source and those where the only parts of information that I needed as an artist to paint from my mind. You have made my day and I cannot love you more as artist just because of that. Thanks a lot, my fundamentals theory are now complete and my guess work can be now reduced way further closer to zero. thanks lot brother

    Really appreciate how you deliver information. This might sound silly, but how you teach has really "freed" me from ridgid art lessons iv had in the past, even though it eventually connects back. Its just nice to have the same information presented in a different way that just clicks.

    • @angrymikko

      Inherently the best art lessons do contain restrictions so I can fully appreciate how they might feel limiting sometimes. Best method to learn art is to identify those feelings and instead of fighting against them it’s better to schedule in sessions where you are free to draw or paint whatever you feel like doing.
      Art lessons such as this one is a simple and effective way to master colour but it does cost a lot of concentration to do. It can also be very motivating to see your own progress after doing assignments such as this one.
      Therefore maintaining a healthy balance of both types of art sessions is important for consistent growth. One type to open new possibilities for creative expression and another for enjoying the skills you’ve already acquired.

    I have read so many color art theory books, but for some reason, could not put them into practice. Your video really put everything together in such a practical way! And all without any added fluff too!

    Thank you so much for all of your amazing advice. By watching your videos, I can see improvements in my art, such as painting with just one brush for the entire painting or working with fewer layers. I have gained confidence in my brushwork using the one-brush method. Previously, I used to spend many minutes choosing brushes rather than actually painting and would quickly get bored of my process. I will definitely follow this video on experimenting with colors because I am not fully satisfied with my color usage. Thank you again for making these videos. Please stay happy and healthy, Sir Mikko.

    • @angrymikko

      On brush use: its great that you’ve tried both suggestions. Personally I think using one brush helps with using the brush strokes as composition elements, as a way to describe volumes and it lets the character of the brush be part of what unifies the look of the entire piece.
      On this assessment:
      It’s really an exercise that always improves colour use. To get the most out of this assignment I recommend paying attention to where those impossible hues described in the end are found. It’s that muted edge of the hue cube that’s often completely forgotten when we just choose colours based on where we think they are.
      Colour symbols in our head such as “grass is green and sky is blue” are difficult to battle against. But when you approach finding the right hues through this process almost like a simple puzzle to be solved you can access a much wider spectrum of colours that in turn make the entire painting process easier. It also just happens to always result in paintings that have a strong mood because the presence of light affects every surface in the piece.
      It’s an exciting exercise but it also pushes me every time to find those optical illusions that change the way we see colour.

    This was AMAZING. I always learn so much from your videos and live streams (I usually watch the playbacks). But this was next level, Mikko. I've never heard color theory explained this way, and seeing your examples in action as you create a piece really just helps tie it all together. I flip between traditional media and working digitally, but I always get so frustrated with my digital work so I don't usually see it through to the end. Your videos always make me want to pick my apple pencil back up and get back to it. THANK YOU SO MUCH. Also - Give Vivi some scratches from me!! :)

      Vivi is currently having a very active day. I couldn’t spend as much time with her as she deserves during launch of these 3 things. Today we’ve had plenty of time to play with her favourite duck and she got new slippers to destroy.
      I’ve had a plan to do more traditional art again for the past 3 years but it always feels like there’s never enough time. This year I’ll try to make a video out of those at some point because otherwise I’ll never get to it.
      Traditional or digital, colour theory remains the same.
      Thank you for your kind words. It really helps to know someone out there is watching these 🐻🐻‍❄️

    • @angrymikko
      @angrymikko  10 месяцев назад +7

      I recommend by drawing a 3d arrow in the beginning to display the direction of light in your scene. This might sound silly but I always do this in more complicated paintings because it’s really easy to forget where the light is coming from. Usually I paint the arrow with the same hue as my light source on an empty layer to have a note to refer to. Then I lock the layer so that I don’t accidentally paint or delete it.

      Really happy to know they’re part of your workflow. Sometimes releasing new products is really REALLY scary but I’ve always felt confident that my brushes are great because they’ve gone through so much testing before I share them. Glad to hear you’re finding these colour tutorials helpful. I don’t know why but I find it really satisfying when I figure out a visual way to explain something that in an art class sometimes can take a lot longer to explain with slides. Here in particular the original script had twice as long section explaining the buffer zones but once I got the animations done for that section it seemed like unnecessary repetition to even repeat the text that I ended up cutting completely. Weird thing to get excited about but there are endless of weird things about making videos anyway. =)

    I got the set! I just have one question. In one of your recent videos I saw you making clouds with a brush that is specific for that. But it is not in this set. I there a way to get it? I got Watercolors for Bears, Best of Angrymikko, Brushes for Painters and the Cloud Weaver brush, but none of them is like this specific one :D
    EDIT: I found the video ruclips.net/video/0gujbnRgQLo/видео.html It is called the Cloud Sculptor brush.

    • @angrymikko
      @angrymikko  10 месяцев назад +1

      That one is from the set in the art course Master Sky Painting in Procreate. You can do that same technique with any of the high opacity brushes that have an uneven edge. In fact in that art course the main brush is a very simple brush used in every phase of the tutorial. (not the cloud sculptor one)
      Cloud Weaver that is free is also great for that purpose but I recommend either duplicating the base layer or creating the body of the cloud with the wetness set to 0%
      Hope you enjoy the set and let me know if there is anything I can do to help with using them.
      Btw there is also a full video for the new set and it also has quite a bit of practical advice on using brush strokes in general. I recommend watching it if you have the time.
      Originally I thought to just make a cute couple of minutes intro but it ballooned into a full tutorial that’s longer than this one. 😅 I hope it helps people to not feel overwhelmed by these tools and highlight the controls and features of each brush.
