Absolutely. I’m playing it again currently, and it still holds up. The gameplay, cutscenes and characters are chef’s kiss great. Timeless, I’d say.
It still blows my mind to this day. Such a gorgeous game that runs at 60fps… on the PS3! Come on Sony bring it back!

It's kind of funny to see Ratchet and Clank, Jak and Daxter, and Sly Cooper getting more attention in the classics catalog than God of War.

Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart is still to this day the most innovative next - gen title that Playstation has to offer and when someone is buying a PS5 for the very first time I always recommend Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart to be their first game to buy.

My first Ratchet and Clank game and 100% agree with you. Rift Apart and Final Fantasy XVI perfectly demonstrate what the PS5 is capable of.
Ironically, I got a PS5 because I wanted to experience Sonic Frontiers on something better than my PS4 Slim.

Don’t get me wrong what Insomniac did with Spider - Man 2 was great but isn’t the next - gen feel that I was hoping for like Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart. Such a beautiful game.
Of all games, why Size Matters? It’s Never made sense to me why the original trilogy isn’t on the PS Store. Or the Future Trilogy. I hope they all come soon along with Sly 2 and 3.
They recently added the whole Jak and Daxter collection and the Sly Cooper Collection. These 3 platformer games were literally the big 3 of playstaion, I wouldn't be surprised if ratchet and clank is next

I think it must be taking them a while to get what they want performance wise out of the ps2 titles, perhaps the psp titles are easier to port and have run more smoothly and they are just working on a a solution for the ps2 games, I hope, otherwise I have no clue

I hope they are questioning whether they should remake these games Crash and Spyro style.
These games would sell pretty damn well and they could put a full price on top. I for one question why they should put PS2 game emulators on the PS4, we already got HD versions of them on the PS3 and they look far better than these emulators do in comparison. Why not just make a total graphical remake?
And with Size Matters.. about time it's playable on a console, it's not a game worthy of a graphical remake but rather a port, the other games deserve something more.
hope Secret Agent Clank also gets ported over too! can't wait to earn me some R&C Size Matters trophies!

I love Size Matters! It's definitely not as good as the other games, but I just don't understand the hate that game got.

I don't know, I always thought it would've been a better idea if Insomniac just remade Ratchet and Clank Size Matters. Of all the games that have the classic R&C formula, that's the game that feels the most unpolished and it's obvious that Insomniac Games are the true masters of the franchise
@fq4580 Yeah I think you could be right about that, but only partially. I would more so blame Sweet Baby Inc than Insomniac Games although I will say I have lost a tremendous amount of respect for the fact that they seem to want to defend that horrendous company. Fuck Insomniac games for that
Backwards compatibility would be so much easier if they just did what they did to the early PS3 models that had full PS1 and PS2 backwards compatibility.
@@FantasticJay3582 Costs them more money, since they literally slapped the entire PS2 cpu/GPU in those early PS3 models in addition to the PS3 hardware. Nintendo got away with it for the GameCube/Wii generation since it was essentially the same hardware but overclocked
Hell nah, that would cost money asf and would need to bring back the original chip to ps5. Emulation is more easier.

What I’m trying to say is they’re not going to cut into their already tight production costs for new consoles just to add a feature that a minority (though we’re a vocal and passionate group) would take advantage of. The only company who seems to care about backwards compatibility is Microsoft, but that’s likely because they needed good will after the damage Don Mattrick caused to Xbox’s brand.
The armor system of Size Matters is actually what made me realize that this series is one of the greats (not sure why I didn't realize sooner than that though)

That was "Into the Nexus", a good but short game compared to the rest of the Future trilogy or Rift Apart
Into the Nexus is in my top 3 of favourite RaC games, if would be number 2 if it was longer.
I like Size Matters, But the game is not balanced well. Enemies don't get stunned by weapons much if at all at times, weapons barely do any damage against enemies, also that last boss
The fact that of all the Ratchet games, they ported the psp one, makes me hope they're preparing "something" for the main games, like a full remaster, or something. It can't be a coincidence
Wish we get huge Ratchet and Clank game that like huge RPG world to explore/planets too see, ships to upgrade etc. They always do small games. While I do enjoy them. Wish they go big one. Crack in time and tools of destruction were my fav on Ps3. Into Nexus was good too.

I just hope one day that these games will be ported to PC like Rift Apart was. Really the reason I got into the Ratchet & Clank series is because of Rift Apart on the PC.
Wonder if this was part of the huge leak a year or two ago? I do recall you mentioning some crazy good news for the series at the time, but didn't want to fully cover it out of respect for Insomniac.
Nope, I saw everything it got leaked and this game wasn't part of it. It makes sense since Insomniac is not involved in this game, only Sony, so it's logical that it wasn't on the roadmap.
Apparently the PS2 games won't have the same treatment since supposedly they make weird things when they are emulated (the PS3 system that had the hybrid PS2 emulation has problems with R&C games). So Insomnia would have to work on them to be able to emulate them, and atm they are busy and therefore won't help on those emulations
I always used to see the PS2 version of Size Matters at the library, but never borrowed it because I didn't have a PS2 at the time. This and Daxter are games I'd love to play on the PS5.

My most favorite R&C games are the first three OG’s from the PS2. All I wanted was to see those games with today’s graphics and maybe make the planets feel less empty. Not a reboot that completely changes everything and ruins my childhood. 😭😭😭

Size Matters was my first Ratchet and Clank game, and I remember it being super hard towards the end of the game, and feeling so bad ass beating it!
I don't care what people say, I loved size matters. It was my first Ratchet game because at the time I only had the PSP. Obviously, it's not as good as the PS2 games but it was still a fun experience. Sony could be doing an experiment. People were confused as to why they gave us lost frontier instead of Daxter, but now we have Daxter. So, it's only a matter of time before we get the ratchet trilogy.

I hope they also add the classic PS1 and PS2 Crash (and Spyro) games too at some point
I haven't played the PS1 versions in years and it could be a lot of fun to hopefully one day get an official way of playing them again

I don't think it's that weird that they waited to bring ratchet over considering that we had modern releases with the 2016 reboot and rift apart and all the PS3 ratchet & clanks are available through PlayStation now and I think this includes the HD collection for the PS2 titles. Jak and daxter and Sly Cooper did not have current Gen titles and the older ones were not available to stream through PS now so the only way we could play those was for them to re-release them we still have options when it comes to ratchet & clank if you really want to you can sign up to PlayStation now and have access to every single game
On the subject of PSP games, I hope they will bring over the original Crush for PSP. It was previously made available on PSVita, which was how I got introduced to the game, but it would be great to see that get upscaled on a modern system!
Same question as for the Jak and Daxter games: Why not build upon the PS3 Remasters? They already exist, so why not make them available for PS4/5 instead of the original ps2 games? I own the PS3 Rachet and Clank remaster trilogy for the PS3 digitally. All they have to do is make them playable on PS4/5.
That ones easy to answer. The PS4 & 5 can easily emulate PS2 games so its very cheap and easy for Sony to release those.
The PS3 remasters however can't be emulated so those would require a full blown remaster or remake which costs way more and take way longer.
Sony as a company wants quick and easy money so they go for emulation instead.
@@MLPRainbowFantasy Okay, I get that PS3 games are harder to emulate, but what do you mean by "can easily emulate PS2 games"? I bought Vice City and Psychonauts from the PS store, and both have terrible performance. Some games don't seem to even be optimized to play in 60hz (as I live in europe and we actually get the 50Hz PAL versions of the PS2 games digitally). And I am not the only person, there are many reports on the internet talking about bad performance with the emulation on PS4 and 5. Maybe that "new" PS2 emulator is a bit better, but from what I understand, the new emulator is exclusive to the new additions. I don't have these fancy new emulations features with the PS2 games I bought years ago. I really hope they will make it available for every game.
I want the entire R&C franchise, but this is a start. Note: Tools of Destruction doesn’t have trophy support, and is a great game with an amazing story so if they’re only doing one at a time, then next should be… Secret Agent Clank. Then Tools of Destruction.
I too played Size Matters for the first time on the psp. My grandfather bought my brother a psp and the game for his birthday. He and i put countless hours into that game.
We need more modern games that play like sly, jak & dexter (the first game was best), and ratchet & clank. Just fun without stressing players out

I'd like to see the Future series brought over, not just because I love the games, but because Tools Of Destruction and Quest For Booty never actually had Trophy support, since that was REALLY early days PS3.

Hot take: Size Matters already had the trademark HiG dogshit writing, it was there in the very beginning. They did not somehow magically get bad with TLF. They were always bad at writing.
Yeah, I sleep until there's an official release of at least the first 3 games on Steam or just PC. Maybe the Concord failure will make them desperate enough to port over more of the older games, not sure how well Rift Apart did on Steam though.
It's a shame that the entire Ratchet and Clank series hasn't been remastered. This game was absolutely exciting, the story was very entertaining and funny and you just have to love the characters like this black market dealer, this hoverboard skid, Captain Quark because they just kept appearing in the story and always had cool dialogues and cool cutscenes the funny America humor. unforgettable times
I actually heard many bad things of Ratchet and Clank Size Matters. One thing is that the controls are apparently... REALLY BAD. Camera controls are placed on the triggers and if you want to do a long jump you have to hold BOTH down. Strafing is placed into the D-Pad and the Weapons are from bad to average. The Concussion Gun is the worst weapon considered in the entire game. It does almost no damage and you will just die trying to use it. Also who is going to go through the effort of buying the RYNO when you need the MAX BOLTS in the entire game the thing is literally 9,999,000 bolts in the Gadgetron Vendor. Another thing to mention is BULLET SPONGES. When you do NewGame+ all enemies sponge your bullets and take so many hits that it gets BORING after a while. The Boss fights were tedious and frustrating such as the Final Boss having a shield that you need to break down overtime and then for it to come back almost a minute later only to do a small amount of damage to his health. It is probably the 2nd worst Ratchet game ever considered with Secret Agent Clank in 1st. Tell me if I am wrong. Because I have played the game so much that it was more of a frustrating experience then a fun one. For some reason there is one bit that is basically lemmings but pretty bare bones. The Hoverboard Races were pretty boring because once you use your turbo at least 5 times the race is pretty much over because the other people racing you take forever to reach the finish line afterwards.
I will say some good things now. I like the Puzzle Ideas especially shrinking yourself down to do a grind puzzle I liked that. There is a Clank Arena which reminds me of Battlebots or Robot Wars except... Weird. The Armor concept is neat but it changes nothing about the game other then the armor rating at which you take less damage. Your bound to get punished anyway even with the best armor. Plus almost 80% of the ARMOR is behind the NEWGAME+ WALL. So if you want that armor have fun playing through the same game but harder.
This was just probably a terrible experience by me, I did like some bits of the game, the cutscenes were good (mostly good) there were some really weird moments that should've been changed but weren't. Let me know what you think. Was this game actually good? or was it just very frustrating. Because that's how I felt half way through.

I'd definitely love to definitely see the older games to come in the future. Another game I'd love to see be added is called Virtual On-Marz. We need more classics on current stuff where possible.

Quite possibly. Also, the PS2 and PS3 games are already streaming on PS Plus, so maybe that's why they did a PSP game.

Yeah the fact that Size Matters wasn't Insomniac really shows. I personally really didn't like the PSP games. Secret Agent Clank was way worse though. Size Matters had a couple interesting ideas, i will admit that. The weapons were utterly forgettable but yeah the armor system wasn't bad. It sadly mattered more since the weapons sucked so using your melee was just a rare thing when you are out of ammo or just happen to be in melee range. It gave you a reason to check out the buffs to the wrench from the armor sets. The dream stuff was weird, not bad, just weird.
Yeah Ratchet 2 3 and 4 are the most iconic games in the series. Tools Of Destruction and Crack in Time were great too, also Rift apart, but the classic 4's 3 with more polish hold a special place in my heart. They were a huge part of my childhood.
Also I hope they put these games on pc(steam). I want to see the Ratchet and Clank franchise grow!

when I read the title I thought you were going to announce a new R&C game, not the classic ones being released for streaming. I refuse to pay £18 just to play said games on my PS5, if they released them all in a collection on physical media then I would have considered purchasing them, but I can play them with upscaled graphics anyway on an emulator which would make them look a lot better than these ones they release for streaming plus I would actually own them on disk but what I really want is a new R&C game. also, just release them all on the PC will ya.
