The Tools of Destruction music used in the Reservoir Dogs parody segment had to be replaced with royalty free music due to a copyright claim.
Bruh after 4 years they take down the music lol.
I just want to use this space to say that while. Rift Apart was pretty fun, I was disappointed with it..
Aww...
I also noticed the Drek boss battle music was toned it down
Such a shame
Still to this day i listen this video like a lullaby
Damn it.
I was a gameplay programmer on the the original Ratchet & Clank, and on RC2. I programmed planets Umbris, Gaspar, and Gemlik Base, and most of the weapons, including Pyrocitor, Suck Cannon, Visibomb, Decoy Glove,Boxing Glove, Bolt Detector, Bombs, and the Agents of Doom.. It's been a long time, it's hard to remember; I had to look up the names of the planets because when I worked on they we called them things like Quark's fort, lava level, and space combat.
I seem to recall having to tone down muzzle flash on the Blaster because there had been the epilepsy scare with Pokemon on TV and we were worried about giving Japanese kids seizures.
I haven't really been able to bring myself to play any of the games after that, so it was nice to see your video and hear that maybe we did some stuff right with the original games. I do remember being told that story wasn't important at all and that I shouldn't worry about it, so it is surprising that our story for the original game actually is as deep as you say. I remember being upset at the setup for story for the 2nd game, and actually submitting my own story that didn't get used.
I was the one of the last of the original gameplay programmers from Ratchet & Clank 1 to leave the company, save for the Hastings brothers. Some tools programmers stuck around a little longer. A lot of the original team did go to High Impact Games to work on Size Matters on the PSP.. That was fun; like getting the band back together; I miss those guys!
Anyway, thanks again for your very detailed video. It is kinda painful to revisit those games after all these years, but I suppose that it is nice to remind myself that I programmed some maybe cool stuff, once upon a time...
Instead of Ratchet and Clank being bored layabouts in the beginning, they were immediately approached by a scientist who warns of a plot by Megasoft to take control of all of the robots in the universe.
Facing a public that is blind to the problem unfolding right in front of them, R&C travel around trying to enlist various factions to help them. One group are the Xunil are a group of monastic bearded hackers who are a too lost in their own mysticism to be of much use at first. The second group are the Mapricot, an erudite and haughty cult that promises aid, but ultimately betrays them to Megasoft.
The game would also introduce a new character named Bug who gets very small and goes inside computers and machines to solve puzzles and clear the way forward.
Ratchet and Clank also start to build a larger spaceship that their tiny ship docks to. It starts with just a cockpit and a cargo module, and as they progress, new modules can be added to it that actually become locations where they can go. This was to be sort of like building a stronghold in Morrowwind. I was also going to add sections where you have to go outside and fix stuff on the ship (sometimes during battle!); finally a real use for the magnaboots! This was inspired by Sundog: Frozen Legacy (which was inspired by Star Wars, 'natch).
There was also going to be a section that implemented a courier delivery game in one of the city levels using the grappling gun. Vaguely crazy taxi inspired.
Some of the levels that were polluted in the original game could be returned to and you could play them in restored beauty, or in the process of being cleaned up.
The end of the game was going to be a big strategic space battle, where you not only shoot ships, but also have to send your various forces around the galactic map to fight Megasoft's enslaved robot spaceship army!
The broad strokes of an evil corporation, a female scientist, and a plot to take over robots were all that actually made it in, and I think even that may have been a coincidence.
That's a nice and unique comment, my friend ;)
Always nice to see an opinion of a person that worked on a game. I can't say pretty much anything except thank you for such a great game

after this heap you should try and "get band back together" once again and make your R&C-esq IP throw it up on KS or go to some indy pub.
Ratchet and Clank was probably the third title I ever played on my PS2. It would have been my first, but the game was so popular it took me 4 different stores just to find one that wasn't sold out. My love for this series is so deep I can tie each level to some pretty significant moments in my middle school life. I played the game so much I got every gold bolt except for one without using a guide. A decade and a half later and video games are my passion and I'm learning to make games myself. Feels rather insulting to be honest. It's like whoever wrote/approved the characters came from 20 years ago and still thinks that only nerds with no life play videogames, so only a nerdy character would be relatable
Never mind that videogames are one of the many forms of escapism we partake in as a society, and therefore the possibility to play as someone we are not in real life is a big selling point of a lot of action titles.
you were spot on about rachet being a hillbilly, because that's a real character. He's just a rough dude who goes to sleep still covered in grease and random metal filings in his fur. Wakes up at the crack of dawn pours a cup of coffee grabs an old street sign and wonders if will be able to hold in the vacuum of space better or will the old trash can work instead.
Even the dynamic in the first game is better, clank wants to save the galaxy. Ratchet just wants to go somewhere more interesting than a god damn desert.
True and in Rac Rift Apart he is a returning Older well known Hero

Why is Ratchet & Clank consider kids' game franchise? The first 3 were rated T for teen and had numerous crude jokes and puns.
Brandon Dozier Because it has an anthropomorphic talking animal, so that immediately classifies it as a kiddy franchise as far as the general public is concerned.
With the HD Collection, they were retroactively labeled E10+. The series was essentially ALWAYS E10+, but that rating didn't exist until five games into the series!
Because kids like crude jokes and puns. As a documentary about Roald Dahl once put it, "kids don't want to read stories about flowers and rainbows, they want to read stories about poo and willies."
CruelestChris
In that case, kids must not like thr new reboot then.
Yeah, they probably don't. Kids generally don't like the things that adults think they should like, like when they throw in a kid character thinking kids will want to _be_ that character, and kids wish that character would just piss off because they're annoying and get in the way.
The lack of dialogue until Ratchet and Clank meet in the original really reinforces the idea that Ratchet is very much alone on Veldin.
I always liked it too, because it further enforced his motivations for finishing his ship. He wants to hurry up and get it built so he can get off his boring home world and see the galaxy. Now he’s a Boy Scout mechanic who works for an owner of a garage and it’s horrible.
Nonamearisto facts like veledin had this atmosphere of desert and desolation vs EVERY FUCKING PLANET IS SO FUCKING VANILLA every planet is teeming w life blah blah blah
@Jasper Arce Squidward: I gotta get out of here!!
The lack of dialogue is just old game design, id much rather have an alive and engaging game than an empty and soulless one. Most games were like that back then so its not really something you can award them for.

Yeah same actually. When I played the reboot the first time I was scared I was going crazy for not liking the game, but this video helped me understand why exactly the game felt off to me when I first picked it up. I love the original, and I can admire the fact they wanted to reboot a great franchise, but they sanded all the edges off to make it a very smooth and bland game. I won't call it terrible because I do enjoy the gameplay a lot and there are some quirky parts I enjoyed, but as a whole, this reboot was a swing and a miss for me.

Ratchet and Clank slowly gaining each other's respect was a slow burn in the original, but it felt earned. Ruining the premise of how R&C bonded already left a bad taste, but the biggest insult was shoehorning Nefarious into the mix; Chairmen Drek deserved way more respect as a character. I LOVE Nefarious, but damn he's not the only villain in the series.

The replacement of the original soundtrack is justification enough for this video's existence and length, absolute sacrilege
You got my like just for your username.
Comfortably Dumb the soundtrack in the original was great. It was funky and very varied.
crazylimegreenmonkey it was such a unique sound, and yet the variety between planets like Veldin and Orxon showed that there was so much Bergeaud could do with it. A real shame that they've gone down such a generic orchestral route, it's like they've taken the Pixar comparisons a little too literally.
Comfortably Dumb I agree 100%. The original soundtrack was awesome and if you heard any of the music you would know it was Ratchet and Clank music. The new orchestral style music they are going for isn't nearly as good or iconic as the original music and doesn't have that "I'm exploring different alien worlds vibe" which the original tracks have.
Comfortably Dumb the original OST really wasn't that good
I was actually kind of stunned they went that route in the first Ratchet and Clank in 2002. I was thinking naw, they'll dumb it down and make it nicer for the kids...these two guys will get over their little squabble in the next scene no fuss because that's how these things usually get done when kids are the demographic. But then the conflict DOESN'T get resolved that easily - it actually ends up taking a significant portion of the game for Ratchet to grow, listen and naturally progress from dismissive asshole to someone who gives a damn about the bigger picture.
That impressed me, and made the game go from good to great. Someone who wrote that game was interested in telling a genuine story.
I’m still so utterly confused by this. NOBODY LIKED RATCHET in the first game. Critics of the story didn’t like him, and my Dad and I didn’t like him when we had the game all those years back. It got to the point they made him a completely different character going forward. Look at Ratchet from the 2nd game onward, they found a happy middle ground. He is still snarky and got a lot of good quips in, but he was also a lovable dork instead stereotypical hotshot bad boy. Ratchet was badass out in the field, but when he’s just hanging out with friends or talking with a girl he likes the mask slips off and we just see this regular kid. I DO agree that he was too much of a goody two shoes in the reboot, it he was also too much of an asshole in the first game, and no amount of character in said first game was going to fix that.
I personally don't hate ratchet's depiction in the original game. I think it's a nice contrast to clanks personality, but I do prefer the middle ground they found in later installments. I also agree that the way they handled ratchet's character arc in the original was very well done, as ratchet really hated clank for a good portion of the story, but had to keep him around because clank is the only way he could use his spaceships.
Point of this comment is I hate the way they're portrayed in the 2016 reboot, and I can only hope insomniac doesn't try too hard to be quirky or relatable in the new ratchet game coming out.
@@SirenChats No way, the OG Ratchet was the best, this Ratchet is for pussies.
@@SirenChats I agree with this sentiment. Years ago, I bought the Ratchet & Clank HD Collection (and never beat the games for some reason 🤦🏾♂️), but picked it back up after finishing the reboot earlier this year. And I was completely thrown off by Ratchet’s attitude and personality; I found him to be a selfish prick and didn’t like him.
I see that I’m not the only one who felt like this. And interestingly, his personality was changed in the sequel Going Commando.
I'm playing the first game now and I think having Ratchet be an asshole is good. Nowadays all kids stuff is filled with the same schmaltzy crap, I miss media about "bad kids", like the simpsons, south park and malcolm in the middle.
They destroy ratchets character in the first 20 mins, he literally said he didn’t want to be a hero in the original. He was selfish, it was only through the story he grew into the hero he was. Wow this is just sad.
He doesn't really care about anything until the end of the game. After he takes down Drek, he starts to understand that the galaxy actually needs a hero to save it. The first 3 games are still the best.

@@cartooncrazed13 Here's to hoping. Honestly as I see it the big thing R&C 2016 had going against it was that it felt like "movie first, game second" was the mentality that went into writing the characters. So an interaction that could be fleshed out in the 12-14 hours of a casual playthrough had to be crammed into a 90 minute feature length film, then spread back out into a 10-14 hour game, and yet the game insisted on carrying the movie's plot beat by beat, galactic rangers and all.
@@cartooncrazed13 unfortunately they're still goody two shoes
@Mr.1-UP Don't worry about it. It's perfectly okay to like a game. And having played through the game, R&C 2016 isn't a bad game on a technical standpoint, it just lacks a certain edge to its humor and writing that people loved the OG games for. If anything, I'd suggest going back to the original trilogy and seeing for yourself what those games were like and making your own comparison.
One of the reasons they did this to R&C1 was because one of the criticisms people had of R&C1 back when it first came out was they thought Ratchet was too mean to Clank throughout the game. It was something Insomniac paid attention to and was one of the reasons why they replaced Ratchet's voice actor with James Arnold Taylor and made him less abrasive as a character.
What people at the time and especially now don't pick up on is if you remove Ratchet being abrasive from the story, the entire thing falls apart and you just have a bright yellow dude shooting things. Which is what this Reboot ultimately boils down to.
Actually, Overstrike changed to Fuse mostly because Insomniac was under a contract with EA. EA really likes focus grouping with 12-year olds, which thought the original concept with quirky characters where "too kiddy", so EA decided that Insomniac should make a more "serious" game to compete with Call of Duty.
Sunset Overdrive was something that Insomniac had more creative liberties with, but tried way too hard to please the gamer crowd. But in that game, they had this one sidequest that made fun of the dumb focus grouping tests that large corporations like to do in order to appeal to a certain crowd.
I didn't mind the original Ratchet.
DeadYorick Yeah thats actually true
He was WAY more interesting in that game. I liked it. It showed Ratchet wasnt your perfect hero
DeadYorick So this shell of a Ratchet we see in reboot is the product of kid friendliness taken up to eleven huh.
I get that they want to please parents by making everything inoffensive, they're mostly the ones buying the games after all but DAMN I doubt this'll be the game kids remember ten years from now like people today recall the original. Breaking stuff and platforming is fun, but there really is no soul behind it, no memorable moments. Just another mindless thing that keeps you occupied couple of hours and then is forgotten forever.
What a waste.
Coincidentally, Insomniac did something similar with Spyro as well. In the first game, Spyro doesn't really feel like a hero. He's more of a bolshy little brat who is more concerned about fighting Gnasty Gnorc than saving the lives of the other dragons. The dragons even brought the whole conflict on themselves. Spyro learned nothing from the adventure as he insults Gnasty in the 100% ending and all the dragons get turned back into stone.
Then, in the next two games, Spyro was given a slight personality overhaul: he was still arrogant, but he made a conscious effort to help people, even when he had been roped into doing so.
Insomniac should have done the same thing with Ratchet instead of completely changing him into a overly nice Boy Scout figure.
In the original trilogy the games script and story was made by the animators. Since the ps3 games, insomniac has hired writers which have sadly led to worse scripts.
Kooky how that happens
@@SlainOracle very wacky
They did get a writer for Up Your Arsenal and onward, but other than that you are indeed correct.
If I remember correctly, they got writers for up your arsenal. Ever since up your arsenal, they went into a more generic story about heros fighting vilains, and, in my opinion, it was a bad choice. The story of up your arsenal had major issues. Although there was a lot of funny jokes, the story and the vilain didn't make sense at all.
@@gabouchar9977 I really dont see the issue with Up Your Arsenal honestly, I think the story was fun, a good solid conclusion to the trilogy if not entirely in line with the first two, and I think the gameplay was made more fun in a natural way of being more polished while not abandoning the gameplay it established.

Literally all they had to do was update the graphics, add a few extra secrets. They didn't have to change anything else. Why?! Like seriously why?

My sole motivation in playing the game was to check out what kinds of cool weapons and gadgets existed on other planets.

I feel the same whenever I play any open world games and begrudgingly crawl back to an uninteresting main story after noticing all content is arbitrarily locked behind story progress. Who would have thought that in 2002....
It's weird how I can easily just watch this video. Multiple times.
The fact that it just perfectly voices all my complaints to a T is just so cathartic.
Same here. Probably watched this like 4 times.
Same. It's weird, but i'm glad hes able to voice every problem i have with the new game and what i like about the original, because whenever i try to put a word to something i can never do it.
Watched this at least twenty times since last year, it makes for a perfect background video.
Qwark's betrayal makes more sense in the original because it's implied that he's a washed-up celebrity at this point. Ratchet even says as much when they watch the Big Al commercial, commenting off-hand, "Man, Qwark's really sold out!" Him being a spokesman for Drek is really just a last-ditch effort to hold on to some relevance, since he's really got nothing more to lose at this point (See: Krusty the Clown). However, in R&C 2016 it seems like he's still at the height of his career, so, nah, it really don't make no sense.
in the reboot, it was basically. "buh ratchet's better then meh." which is..wrapped up hugely quick. he goes from a boss fight weith "Screw you ratchet :C" to "OH GOD RATCHET i"M SORRY" it's..sloppy. mostly cuz they had to tie into the movie (which was a bad choice.)

Washed up hero angle was perfect
At least the movie itself explain why he chose to be on drek's side, unlike the ps4 game where he is just... there with him.
Yeah, the ps4 game left ALOT of details out on the movie, to the point where it's a confusing mess with a shit ton of filler too.

All I can say now is that I am sad for this reboot. Wish I could see the original trilogy on the PS4 as well...
I hate, hate, HATE, the argument that something is for children so therefore it needs to be completely devoit of intelligence and realism. The olden cartoons and video games were nitty and gritty and prepared children for reality and taught valuable lessons *SUBVERTLY*. Specifically in the early 90s to late 2000s.
I remember shows like courage the cowardly dog were designed to warn children about the danger of strangers and was designed to deter children from trusting everyone they meet, which worked VERY WELL.
Shows like Kim possible and Powerpuff girls targeted female power very well. Ed, Edd, and eddy taught children not to be selfish and cheap, etc.
Kids entertainment was obviously written to have the targeted child demographic in mind, but were written in a way to benefit them in the long run, in which you learned from example.
Now children's shows are literal mind numbing hypnotism. They tell you what you should and shouldn't do in a straightforward hypnotic lazy way, which imo leaves them at the mercy of the "sponsors". (Google Sesame Street child product pandering in the 70s and you'll see what I mean).

@@dapperfan44 Well I have my PS2, luckily, because the games can't be played on PS3 without weird lag, and the they don't sell the HD remakes anymore on the PSN.
One of the problems is that the original game had to establish itself, all by itself. No one in 2002 had ever heard of “Ratchet & Clank,” so if the game was gonna sell, it had to be GOOD. It behooved the developers to go that extra mile.
But not anymore. Now _Ratchet & Clank_ is a brand. The fans will line up for the next game on brand loyalty alone. Why try if it’ll sell regardless?
Like apples products, ie iPhone
that, and the amount of money invested in the project to be "high value", means things often get rushed, as to not spend that much money on it, making it kind of a hollow shell
Ironic considering how the series’ original themes were very anti-consumerism. The fact the the “remake” is basically a soulless reimagining designed to use the IP to make money and sell movie tickets really drives home the points of the original game even more.
This is literally Pokemon's current situation. What feels worse is that even Pokemon tried, despite being a brand, for 4 generations after the original.
The original game was never good, it forces bizarre lock puzzles that literally rely on trial and error over and over to even pass unless you look up a guide. Why does nobody talk about this?
The problem with this game is that while the gameplay itself is a lot of fun, they took away everything that gave the original games their charm- most notably the sly adult humour. Those little innuendos really made me laugh, and now it's all just "yeah- let's go save the world!". Ratchet is made out to be such a naive idiot in the remake and Clank has no personality whatsoever. A lot of the humour used to come from their personalities bouncing off each other. The original Trilogy, Deadlocked (or Gladiator), Tools of Destruction & a Crack in Time were where the series really shined.
Learn how Skid McMarx gets his extra 'altitude'.
A Crack in Time was the magnum opus of the series.
Ospyro3em yep

@Ruthless Attitude Entertainment reading this was infinitely more depressing than not knowing at all, holy shit.
@Ruthless Attitude Entertainment that's what concerns me. Naughty Dog messed up TLOU 2 because the people working there aren't the same who made Jak and Daxter, most of the Uncharted games and TLOU 1. I hope that doesn't happen with Ratchet and Clank as well. The lead writer is Sam Maggs if I've not mistaken and that worries me. The best way I could describe her is by calling her a Karen. She might have worked on Marvel's Spider-Man, which was amazing, but then again Neil Druckman also worked on a bunch of games from Naughty Dog before TLOU 2.
@Ruthless Attitude Entertainment I'd say they didn't know what they were doing after A Crack in Time. That's when it really started to lose its edge. After that, we got All 4 One and Q Force (Full Frontal Assault in North America), which were quite bad in my opinion. Then, they released Into the Nexus which was good but it was so short. After that, they waited 3 years to make a shitty reimagining of the first game. Let's hope the series can get back on track in 2021 or whenever it comes out.
And just the fact that Clank interacting with his mother through a computer screen can project more emotion than infinite play throughs of the reboot speaks volumes. And the aesthetic of the first was so beautiful as well I still can’t stand that glowy slingshot wire
I really don't understand why modern (kids') games have to be so hand-holdy with obnoxious tutorials and the game constantly telling you what buttons to press and where to go. What happened to exploration, puzzle-solving, experimentation, trial and error, learning and improving, and actually thinking for yourself? This has happened in so many game series. Compare gen 1 Pokémon games to the modern ones for example. The originals didn't tell us where to go at all, we had to actually explore and talk to NPCs and use context clues to figure it out. In Ratchet and Clank 1, I found some of the levels actually challenging, especially the final boss. As it should be. What sense of accomplishment do today's children get if the game tells them everywhere to go, and everything to do, and the actual combat is basically just for show because you can't lose? And why do people always use the "it's a kids' game" excuse? I was 9 when I beat the first Ratchet and Clank without all the handholding. I was 6 when I beat Pokémon gen 1. What's wrong with making children think?
I think you've hit the nail on the head, it's like people don't want to challenge their audience, and I'm worried that this line of thinking infects other media as well. I read an article by a sci-fi writer (Adam Roberts) recently lamenting the fact that video game reviewers often call out games for being too easy but that readers don't often do the same for books they read; for some reason we don't want to be challenged by novels, we just want to curl up with something that will blandly give us everything we expect it to with no surprises. Likewise with cinema, surface level stuff like Star Wars and the MCU will beat out stuff by foreign masters like Bela Tarr and Jean-Luc Godard in terms of popularity every time. I've always felt that "I found this difficult to comprehend/complete, therefore it's bad" is an extremely jejune and juvenile response to have, but I guess "pamper the audience" has become a dominant line of thinking in the 21st century.
Hit it with the wrench' apparently means nothing to them 20 years later. Nintendo games don't tell you what to do every two steps. Ratchet games used to be a great 'here is a flavour of each genre's even if not intentional and just whatever the Devs wanted to add it helped me move to other genres than 5 different Mario games achieving the same thing as different genres. They told you what you needed to know for the minigames, main game with helpdesks but seemed to think ovetalking isn't a great idea it confuses me. Too much talking I find is when I stop listening or miss information more.
They have to be safe and boring for 'everyone' with very little good personality in it while Indies make the creative stuff we want. Whether veterans or people our ages making games and going 'this is how a Metroidvania is, this is how a platformer is and they get the games mechanics and themes and what worked well. Super Sami Roll is a Greta example of a modern platformer as much as A Hat in Time. Some veterans that make new studios get to push past and make great games, some unique from what their past one at a AAA compayeas even or just a nostalgic one, to sometimes good sometimes 'getting there's levels or horrible ones.
I agree I was 6, the age many playtesters likely were playing Ratchet 1. I got through it. They seem to focus too much on the movie industry then being its own industry. I agree many other games made by people out ages now make platformers, our audience making game for us by themselves. Compared to these veterans at parents age following things and making it too basic. They seem to ignore the competition and not notice that came are busy up the competing games and getting better results of play experience of ideas and challenge. I swear when they made Song of the Deep that came out the same year as Ratchet 2016 they had different mindsets because sure Spyro size team but it's a fairly alright Metroidvania by Insomniac intended for the lead's daughter and is a story board kind of more personality wise experience. You can tell it's AAA because some things creep in there a AAA would do but still. If they can balance out a Metroidvania how is it Ratchet also a kids game is so bland and pandering for kids.
Sure kids do get bored but some work with that 1 game they have for the weekend, control their attention span. Work it out. Would do the same with a school assignment work it out not be given the answer. But with games they want to give people the answer for some reason and it's just boring. Can't have make the player feel smart moments anymore?
Elden Ring is a old school game. It tells enough I think (it could tell more but it's supposed to be old school).
God of War tries to be Norso Naughty Dog game but the thing they forget is Uncharted I don't remember telling me the puzzles. It had the book for hints and I could look if I needed to, and a hint/zoom button but it never told me how to do it. They seem to forget that's a thing. Uncharted 4 I think started that while 1-3/Golden Abyss never did from what I remember.
In Ratchet 2016 they have a button to skip puzzles and continue for a trophy if you commit to the puzzles than skipping them. Why isn't that in their other games these days? Besides if it's side content why tell the player that most people want to play the core content most dedicated to the game will go do the rest.
To me it's a case of sure they can make it for an audience that doesn't play video games or accessible but it is at times too overly accessible and it's like a kid is saying 'yes parent I understand how to do things you have told me 10 times can I please just try it outside the training area or inside the training area but without you telling me please', but it feels like when they change a popular show with lore and deep characters, they make them cliches than the great unique ones they are. Which hearing that on a podcast one time made me surprised. Got to have something so deep and ruin it seasons later. Why would someone watch something so far in to have a middle season be for the average person that makes no sense to me you do that from the start. And those people wouldn't watch the earlier because it's too much so that makes no sense.
With reboots it's more possible but at the same time if they are bland the old audience just facepalms going so blank slates is good now huh? I mena Nintendo characters don't have much either for sure but still they are intended that way and suited to be flexible in Smash that way even.
Because it's popular, dumb it down and that's how you ruin a product you make it so focused you lose your other audience.
You don't give choices in 2016 being too pandering but learn later to be accessible which is fair but also follow trends and loss the original ideas but too busy being nostalgic to fans and making Rift Apart a mess.
While others are a better approach of choices I guess which is something than nothing, but it's not hard to pick up what games do.
Or are players that dumb and their normal lives are that filled with gossip and garbage they can't understand how to play a video game? Because I do have to question it. If they like the game they keep playing and pick up on how the game works, how games have little details. Like we did at least you'd think. It has game logic it isn't real, same as a TV show, only you remember what buttons do, what the sticks do. And we get so much walking and talking about nothing. I mean red barrel is explosive, white/yellow in Uncharted meant it was grab-able and you didn't get lost.
That also Happened In Gow Ragnarok Because at Some Point a Character will tell Kratos what to do in a Fight
I dont mind small tutorials if its the first level, just to teach you the basic controls. But if it becomes a thing over and over then i consider turning it off. I looked someone playing Rift Apart game online, and you have no idea how bullshit that game was, you can SKIP the puzzle lol. So basically why even get a game. Its more sad that people only like jerking it to the female character because thats all i hear about Rift Apart, it barely qualifies as a game. Its a pure example of bad consumer products just shitting out to the masses without trying to be a game.

It's easy to say "oh man, that was such a grate game" while wathing a youtube video which takes only certain parts to your view.
Even those parts that seems good from the video are totally different when you are playing the videogame in his totality.
@@ChaosPootato About the "hold you hand ey"... Seriously? R&C is a franchise where you need to explore and understand what you must to do??????
No, it's a game where you goes from A to B, maybe there is also an option path C and than you change planet.
Even if the lines of "helping" was absent in this game, you couldn't mistake the right path because there is only one like in every other game, it isn't a RPG Open world.
@@BioTheHuman This is a reboot of the first game, I'm comparing it to the first game. I played through it at least 10 times and I remember well how the one-off characters had cool dialogues and wacky situations, I remember well how R&C's relationship actually evolves with the unfolding plot instead of being insta-best pals once Ratchet finds Clank, how their personalities were different and made for funny situations instead of being two nerds on a nerdventure.
Also your point about the help lines is exactly my point. If anyone can manage without it, wtf are there reason to exist ? It's literally taking the players for demented monkeys instead of trusting that they'll handle the fairly simple set of rules by themselves

Sadly, no franchises can last forever.
Flying Demon Yeah, but I don't think R&C is at the point where the franchise itself has run its course. There's still a ton of potential in this IP. They just need to give the series a break, get some new ideas, some new writers, etc. I've been a fan of this series since the second game, but I was ecstatic when I heard Insomniac was working on a Spiderman game because it meant they were branching out and doing something new instead of crapping out another slapdash Ratchet & Clank game, which is something I'd been concerned about since Into The Nexus.
Insomniac knows how to make great games, but they need to do more with their veteran skill than just making R&C games (and VR titles nobody will ever talk about). Spiderman looks amazing *and* well-written, with lots of care put into it, and I can't wait to see where Insomniac goes from here. I think a fresh new IP would be really interesting to see.
Wow, great input edgelord.
How about you think your own thoughts for once.
You could begin by googling the simpsons ratings and realize that they ALWAYS dropped since season 1.
....Hate you brainless band wagon haters so much...
one thing ive noticed is how visually and audibly over stimulating the new game is, the original really has a great balance allowing not too much on screen so you can focus on the action and location your on.
I really like how the original game looked even after 20+ years ago when it first came out but the reboot just looks bland and uninspired
this is a problem with rift apart as well, just so much projectiles and explosions u genuinely cant see what is going on or what to dodge
The motion blur is a big problem. I hate that in modern games in general, that wasn't a thing pre-PS4.
This is a problem allot of new games have, so much shit is happening on screen that it becomes difficult to register whats actually happing.
That's every modern game. No confidence to let anything breathe, and busy screenshots full of lens flares and godrays and garbage are easier to sell to 70-year-old investors who don't know anything about video games.
I hate how they transformed Ratchet from a John McLain reluctant hero type, to a doughy eyed Boy Scout who’s obsessed with being a lackey to Quark. The fact that Quark narrates everything and there’s incessant tutorials non stop is on the brink of ruining my play through for me. I like the gameplay and the remastered graphics and recognizable characters and enemy types is awesome. However it feels like their different characters completely, and all sarcastic humor and consumeristic satire is gone completely. It sucks ass.
The funny thing is, in the very first game Ratchet wasn't exactly popular because a lot of people took him to be unlikable (I am one of those people) but it was the second and third games that softened him up WITHOUT making him lose his edge. I guess it was a sign of character development or making him more likable meta-wise but it worked. But again, I don't know why they changed him so drastically. Now he's just another fanboy character and he's not the only character that got this change: Peter Parker AND Monica Rambeau (the first female Captain Marvel btw) got turned into fanboy/fangirl characters which is annoying since that was NOT the aspect of their characters, especially with Monica because CAROL was the nerdy bouncy fangirl type, Monica was a cool and collected police officer.
Well its from Quarks perspective so what would you expect

I really want to know where the old music writers, composers, and talents went... because holy shit the PS2 series has some of the most memorable score of all time
Right?? The atmospheres were unforgettable and unique. Shaped my view of the world from an early age
David Bergeaud was the original composer and I believe he left after Tools of Destruction. When he left the music took a HUGE hit. To this day I can still go back and listen to his Ratchet music and it never gets old. The new Ratchet music is just generic Pixar/Dreamworks type music and I can't remember a single one of them. That says a lot about Bergeaud's quality.

Reboot biggest sin is definitely not bringing back that kickass soundtrack. Also it makes sense for Ratchet to be harsh and not give a damn about the outside universe because the guy was basically an alien hillbilly, he lived in a desert all his life, of course he needed some time to take in the outside world before caring.
I just don't think the story of R&C works anymore because of Insomniac not having writers who fully understand them as characters (Ratchet being the sarcastic jerky goofball and Clank being the straight man) anymore. Spider-Man PS4 and Miles Morales worked because the characters that they wanted to write for fit the style of their writers (who are idealized, and genuinely trying). And guess what, Spider-Man PS4 is now my favorite Insomniac game.

Damn, that sucks to hear. I'll definitely try to get the PS2 discs then. Thanks for telling me ^^
The HD collection isn't "full of glitches", there's just a couple graphical errors here and there that weren't in the originals.
Examples: Ratchet's helmet being too big in cutsceens, and some missing textures. They're perfectly playable. Deadlocked/Gladiator HD's all kinds of fucked up though, don't get that.
I apologize to Gen Alpha and the younger Zoomers for having to grow up with Millenial writing.

At least Spider-Man was a fucking great game. I'm glad their tendencies from this game did not carry over. Some of the humor is meh but overall, fucking great.
being anti-consumerist is a self own for gamers anyway lol
I don't think this series was ever anti-consumerism. It never outright says "companies are evil, seize the means of production" with Ratchet waving around a hammer and sickle. It was satirical and poked fun at consumerism and media , but that was just one aspect of the game. It was also about exploring space and alien worlds and blowing stuff up with wacky guns.
That and these games wouldn't exist without consumerism. It's not like the PS2 games didn't have commercials back in the day, lol.
Granted that might be the overall meta joke of the remake, considering it was promoted as the game based on the movie based on the game and the whole narrative is from Qwark's perspective.
