Planet Orxon in Ratchet & Clank is one of the most infamous planets in the game for many reasons. In today's video we will be taking a deep dive into the unsolved mystery of this toxic planet.

Ngl i thought this video was going to be a deep look into the rachet and clank lore. and what secrets it holds. turns out it was about a speedrun strategy. I'm not dissapointed though

I'm not dissapointed either, actually, this was a look into the ratchet and clank speedrunning community, a very tight and close community of people helping eachother in order to reach a common goal.
If that isn't at least a bit interesting and heartwarming then I don't know what is.

I'm not even a speedrunner, but this makes me want to pick up the game just to find a way to get to location 2

Something I've noticed about speedrunners is that even when talking, they want to take the least possible time. It's not Pokitaru Skip, it's Pokiskip.
Let alone listing everything else you are also skipping by skipping pokitaru

Yeah I've always felt this way, even though Going Commando is technically a "better" game, it just doesn't have the same vibe.

RUclipsr Bismuth goes REALLY in depth into speedrunning mechanics. I am a casual gamer so it’s easy for me to get lost in the jargon and coding mumbo jumbo but I still find it interesting.

Dude, I’ve been a die hard R&C fan since I got my PS2 in 2005 and played UYA first. It astounds me that there are people who still enjoy this game for what it is and what it means to the community!
I fu**ing loved the first ratchet and clank when I was a kid. It was the biggest leap in graphics I had witnessed at the time, and the fluid motion in the animation was amazing to me. Great memory from my childhood.

@@ZPixel17well, poki skip was actually done now. Unfortunately only in NG+
@@ZPixel17a low% run would only get the helipack, pilots helmet and the o2 mask. Doing Veldin 2 with only the helipack is brutal, if thats not enough you fight drek with only 40 bombs and your wrench. Ammo only spawns when you have 3 weapons that use ammo and you below 50%. You get the thrusterpack automaticly in the last phase of drek but its not actualy in your inventory.

I love these videos. I haven't watched a speedrun in a year and frankly I've lost my interest, but these videos are so much more than just about speedrunning. It's like watching a movie... You really do make every second captivating and interesting.

I like how you actually explained everything as if nobody knew what the game was. Really helps you take into account everything that's necessary to know the speedrunning shenanigans in Orxon. Once I saw Orxon, I knew what you were going to talk about.
Right? Never even made it to the first info bot location. But I know we all tried whenever we'd been through the game and knew how it worked.
Where's Touval, he'd figure this out in a day or two, tops.

I’m so stoked I had no idea there were people as obsessed with this game as I am. I sort of was afraid to check because I know communities exist for other games but I was worried I would check and there would be no community, speed running or otherwise
I think the key might be in position 3's tower. Maybe theres some iffy collision that might be used for a proxy, or maybe some invisible collision higher up that would let you big jump and glide there.
Edit: I have an idea with the elevator! Right when you're about to get launched, just punch! Clank gets a small speed boost, although it would have to be perfectly timed, as it takes a bit of wind up, and, let's be real, it probably wouldnt send you far enough, but it would at least make that part faster and potentially safer if you get the timing down.
I think that somebody should make a mod that highlights all pieces of collision. I dont know if this is commonly used, but modders could use that to find the spots where theres invisible or unpredictable collision, then apply that knowledge to speed running.
The dedication to something that was proven to be useless for it's intended purpose speedrunners are insane

This was dope! I remember hearing about Poki Skip a while back, and I found it fascinating, but I didn't know any of the details about how to get to any of the positions. I hope to see a human possible version completed someday

I started watching your chanel because of Jak speedruns, both that game and R&C have been the games of my childhood. I still remember just how it felt turning my ps2 on after homework to play these masterpieces, and after about 5 years of watching your videos from time to time I still love them, I still thank you for what you do and most importantly for breaking the shit of my childhood most fav games. Keep up the good work man.
Also, has all this been tried on ps2, both pal and ntsc? Since it's already slower it might be worth a look into if not done so already.

You gain a new appreciation for the speedrunners of the game after how much they are working to find even the smallest things that can cut down the time.
PLEASE keep breaking down mysteries, new strats, and historical moments in speed running- i love the concept and i could never do it myself, but im DESPERATE to know more. Watching GDQ stuff is fun, but having the history and the how and why explained gets me so hype. You explain things and show them in ways that are so so interesting, and makes it make sense even when ive never even PLAYED the game. I love it!

I’m not very familiar with speed running this game, but wouldn’t you need the Pilot’s Helmet to fight Qwark anyway?
They probably wouldn’t have put the need for it in the game because you’re not supposed to progress to there without the helmet anyway

U can skip the fight entirely
If I had to guess, the game probably only checks for the helmet for the first fighter mission. The 2nd and 3rd probably don't cause it's not supposed to be possible to get there without it.
That said, the 2nd and 3rd fighter missions are skippable anyway.
Imagine some devs of the game knows these exact skips on development because of how precise the tricks are and just watching the community uncover it all while drinking coffee
