Why Ratchet & Clank 2: Going Commando Is My Favorite Video Game (R&C Month)

- It's the 2nd week of Ratchet & Clank Month, and what better video to make than a review of Ratchet & Clank 2: Going Commando on its birthday? This is my favorite video game, as I declared in the last video, and I will explain why that is in this review video.
Since I don't have the means to record on a PlayStation 2, I recorded the footage for this video from the HD Trilogy on PlayStation 3, so even though the resolution is better, there will be some noticeable errors that wouldn't be present in the PS2 version. My European version of it for some reason doesn't include subtitles, so I had to add those myself, and that was quite the tedious process.
I edited together the footage for this video over only 4 days, which is by far the quickest I've ever edited such a long and editing heavy video like this. Because of this, it might show signs of being rushed, but I thought it turned out quite well. To make a fun parallel, this video's rushed development reflects the game in question.
Here's the playlist for R&C Month: • My Ideal Ratchet & Cla...

Playing this game as an adult, you notice a lot of detail that went over your head as a child: satire of capitalism, cinematic shots, world building, attention to detail and personality. This is how a video game ages well.
Yep, I definitely came to appreciate it more with age.
As an adult I only noticed that most of the games are named with some kind of innuendo
@@Kwiwiwiwi We in Europe had those titles changed, but I liked the original ones without knowing why.
I don't think any games made in the last 5 or longer years will truly age well. Most will be forgotten about
but as kids we really knew what was up! i knew this shit would be cool forever !
Shout out to all the kids moms, aunts, grandparents who got them this game for xmas, man I loved playing these games.
Legends
R&C 2 was my first introduction to ratchet, I think I joined in about 2006. I was going to visit my uncle for 2 weeks in a different state, and I brought my playstation 2 to pass the downtime. My uncle's neighbor was a really cool dude who hung out with my uncle a lot. He saw how much I like to play video games and decided to show me his man cave, with a bunch of shelves with games. Ratchet and Clank 2 stood out to me with that sleek cover design. He let me borrow it and I spent the next week playing it so much he actually let me keep the game. My love for the series grew from there.
Same here - R&C2 easily the best game ever made. The immersion and attention to detail is like nothing else of it's era.
Well said
Well, actually RC 1 has more immersion and attention to detail :)
@@XxT0kY0DrfTstYlExX I agree with that to some extent. GC doesn't look as detailed graphically, but it might have a bigger attention to worldbuilding details.
I dunno about best game ever made, I'd personally put a couple of Bethesda's titles over it. I know, apples to oranges, but when you say "best ever," you open the discussion up to that sort of comparison.
When I was little in the 2000s, Ratchet and Clank GC was the first video game me and my brother ever got, and I remember him and I playing it during Christmas time with the song “Clumsy” playing in the background as Ratchet was jumping around planet Oozla. Good times man, GOOD TIMES! ☺️👌☺️
"Fortunately for them, they're kidnapped" never though I'd hear that
Neither did I, but here we are...
This game is the highlight of my childhood. 5/6 year old me is kept alive through it’s amazing Soundtrack, of which I listen to regularly still, it’s way ahead of it’s time!
The soundtrack slaps!
One thing I find amazing even to this day is when on a moon (giant clank or ratchet when destroying the antennas) the bullets/projectiles curve around the planet. Games that have a similar camera style often forget about gravity (yet still giving the ability to jump and land) and have the bullet fly in a straight line off into space.
It's a really neat attention to detail! That's not the case on the moons in A Crack in Time, now that I think about it.
This was the first game I bought with my own allowance money back in the day. Had no idea what it was, just liked that the cover was shiny. 5+ game finishes later, it’s still my favorite game of all time. No matter how good games get in the future, this was the game that made me fall in love with gaming. Great review.
Thanks, interesting story!
i cant even fathom how they made this game in such a short amount of time.
It's surreal
What a fantastic video. Ratchet 2 has been my favorite video game ever since I first played it along with the first game. My top 10 list has changed a lot over the past 10 or so years, but the one thing that has always remained consistent was this game being my number one. Just such a fun game. Weaker story and final boss than 1 and 3 in my opinion, but everything else makes up for it for me: level design, the arsenal, etc.
Thank you! It really is such an awesome game. I think its story is better than 3's, but it definitely does have the weakest final boss in the trilogy.
This is my favourite game of all time too, I was 2 years old when it came out but by the time I got older my dad couldn’t afford the newest gen consoles so he got me a ps2 with this game and whenever he’d be home from work we’d play it nonstop
That's wholesome!
Love that👌🏼
How you put out videos of this quality and yet only have 100 subs amazes and saddens me.
Aw, thanks dude! It seems this R&C Month project has boosted my subcount by a bit, so maybe this is a breakthrough of some sort. Either way, I'll wait patiently for them to come, as I have for the past years. :)

Ratchet and clank 2 is an absolute masterpiece still doing playthroughs in 2021 papa bless the PCSX2 for making this game playable in hd without a ps3
Sounds like a great way to play it
do you have a link for a free download for PCSX2?
Going Commando is actually my favorite game too. My favorite level is Boldan. It was there that I felt extremely compelled to get good at the combat more than any planet before it. Those thugs were no joke the first time I played it.
The ship levels aren't necessarily something I love but I think it makes for a quick and easy bolt grind if anything. So I do most of the challenges anyway.
My favorite weapon is the Bouncer. The RYNO and the Plasma Storm probably have better usage, I just absolutely love the concept of the Bouncer itself. It's the most interesting weapon concept I've ever seen and it's still extremely useful especially with the lock on mod.
Boldan is amazing! I really like the Bouncer, but I do find it a bit overrated, given how many say it's better than the Ryno and such.
Ya I can understand that lol Hyping has left a bad taste in my mouth more times than I can count. The Bouncer is more of a personal preference because I love the concept and find it fun to use. Though in Challenge mode when I'm not trying to take any hits I seem to go for the Plasma Storm and the RYNO (The latter especially on Grelbin with those OP yeti monsters) a lot more than I would the Bouncer. I generally switch back to it "just because" lol
@@jaketno I know that feel
R&C GC was the first video game I ever owned so it’ll always be my favorite video game as well. I’ve platinumed the game on the vita and PS3 (as well as the other 2 and the PS3 and 4 games). GC had the most variety and the 2nd best sound track plus the most iconic weapons imo.
Crazy how memorable these weapons are when Megacorp is so underused!
@@arcaedonluminos666 Yeah I know, best weapons in the series.
Definatly the best weapons in the series
bruh how do you only have 500 subs? you deserve atleast 1 mil, your commentary and editing is really good.
Thank you so much! We'll get there when we'll get there. ;)

It still one of my favourite games to play, even till this day. Ratchet & Clank are one of the franchises that got me into platformers & gaming in general.
Same here
Because yes, Ratchet and Clank 2: Going Commando is....Awesometacular👏👏👏
Yeah, that'd be my Jeremy Jahns rating
Once I accidentally made my only save unplayable by trying to use the new game + fast travel thing while the ship was destroyed on the Tabora level to see what would happen. It wasn't a very good idea.
Lmao, I've never thought of that, good to know.
Loved your reviews! fantastic work, GC is one of my favorite games of all time and I remember when I got the game on christmas, it was a blast playing it for the first time ever
Thanks a bunch! Such a fun game.
This is definitely my favorite r&c game
Good taste!
I can now acknowledge the many problems of Going Commando, but this was LITERALLY the first game I ever bought with my own money. It's so special to me
It's good to acknowledge problems of something you love, and they don't necessarily have to drag it down, at least not in terms of enjoyment.
Your opening line of getting ratchet and clank going commando from your aunt hit so close to home. I got the first ratchet and clank from my aunt on Christmas!!
Ayy, that's awesome!
Enjoyed this video. It was a pleasure looking back at this game. Thank you.
No problem and thank you for watching it!
I beat this game over 30 times as a kid. The new game plus here is still the best I've ever seen and destroying all the levels with op weapons never gets old. What other game would you want to finish over 30 times today?
I also must've played through this game over 30 times, same for R&C 1, 3, ToD and ACiT lol. NG+ in this franchise is sooo good!
Dead island for me Although Ratchet and clank is my favorite
One of the things that makes GC such a legendary game, is the formula that keeps on giving. I feel like i never get bored shooting enemies and strafing around. The attention to detail such as the soft physics of the destroyed armor pieces when you continously blast enemies, the large and diverse areas with secrets to explore (especially the desert and snow areas!) is always fun to dive into. And oh god the SOUNDTRACKS. I remember playing GC for the first time when i was 6 years old and i was mindblown. I really hope Insomniac uses some of the same vibes and feels from GC in Rift’s Apart❤️
Rift Apart has the Carbonox at least, so that's a start XD
@@arcaedonluminos666 Really? That’s cool! Let’s hope for for some memorable soundtracks, a great plot and some awesome weaponry😍
@@korg3597 Would be nice
Got goosebumps when you said Ratchet and Clank 2: Going Commando is your favourite game - it's my favourite game of all time by far, since I played the demo in 2003 and got it for Christmas.
Very cool to hear!
If this is your favorite R&C game, you should definitely watch the developer commentary the developers made, it's called the "Useless Podcast" on RUclips with Tony Garcia and Mike Stout, it actually addresses a lot of the small criticisms you had, such as how there's barely any hypnomatic use, when in reality they had planned more levels to use it that had to be scrapped.
I've seen that actually! At least twice I think lol, but I apparently don't recall the part about the Hypnomatic, so thanks for bringing it to my attention. I would've probably addressed it either way, but it's honestly a very minor criticism that doesn't affect my enjoyment.
After just watching this for 8 minutes I already like this review over any other ones that I've watched on youtube (I think I've watched every English review video here on youtube since 2005).
Oh wow, that's extremely high praise, thank you!
Great breakdown! Last time I played this was when I was 11 and watching this video made me realise how more expansive this game is story wise.
Thank you! There's definitely a lot to digest when analyzing this game.
This is the game that started my PS2 journey, and I wouldn't have it any other way. What a killer first game to play on the console!
For real!
All I can say is... awesome video dude! This is the type of game that would be someone's favorite and you dissected it quite well. Also, I never knew that those hounds were pretty much Gadgetron's version of Protopets; so thanks for going over lesser-know aspects of the game.
Thanks a bunch! I wanted to highlight some of the more obscure stuff that seem insignificant, but are impactful enough to make me love the game just that tiny bit more.
Just discovered your channel, love the content!
Thanks!
There was a reason why I played this game the most and beaten this game the most, it has so much content that the last few times I played I picked up new details in the last few years.
There are subtle hints in the game that points to Quark being the main antagonist. The biggest hint and I cannot believe I missed this one is when Mr Fizwidget told the access code to the deep space disposal facility is Quarktastic. I cannot beleive I missed the really blunt clue that really Ratchet and Clank were really speaking to Captain Quark. Leaves me to wonder if Quark was trying to just get them killed since the first level but saw a use for them to add to the attempted reestablishing of his reputation later on.
It really adds to the replay value
This was really cool! I enjoyed it a lot.
Happy to hear!
This game did improve many things from the first one (especially all the minigames) but two things that i really believe were not superior: level design and soundtrack. Both are good in this, but were just fantastic in R&C 1. I have to give a shout out to the Oozla theme though, it's one of the most epic in the whole series. There are other gems too, like the Tabora music and the flight challenge music.
While I don't necessarily agree, I don't think there's much of a gap between them in regards to those aspects. The original R&C does nail the atmosphere better though.
Great video!
I love Ratchet & Clank and have played all the games multiple times (expect the mobile one) but even today this particular game has a special place in my heart. It's an amazing sequel and laid so much groundwork for that the series would be known of even today.
I am so happy that with the PS4 game and the upcoming Rift Apart, R&C has received much bigger attention it always deserved.
Yep and now Rift Apart even reintroduces Going Commando's awesome Carbonox armor!
@@arcaedonluminos666 Yes and Bouncer was in the last game. The love is certainly there, I think. I kind of hope that the ship from 2 and 3 would return sometime.
@@SumoCurtain Would be cool, but since they have Aphelion, I doubt she'll get replaced. I personally really want to see the Plasma Coil/Storm make a comeback!
@@arcaedonluminos666 True that. And I totally agree on the Plasma Coil, it's so good. Group control with style. I don't think there has been anything like it since the PS2 era.
You deserve way more views and subs, this video is very well produced and entertaining
Happy to hear, thanks!
Keep at these videos! Let’s hope the Rifts apart team put as much effort into their production as you have 👍 just might have a new number 1 spot
That's awesome to hear, thanks! Hopefully they do put a lot of effort into RA, and hopefully its development won't be as rushed. XD
The Review is an 100 out of 10, this game is also my favorite of this series, especially the music and the maps, the atmosphere with the music, which fits perfect to the location.
Sometimes u see the homage to Jak and Dexter on the map building, the easteregg in Ratchet apartment is so aesthetic for me.
We can talk about the boss fight, the hacksystem or the clank robot fights. All in all it doesn’t matter if I played the game when I was 5 (you was 4 which is very similar) or when I played last week when I’m 25. It is the best game for me, with some Sly Cooper titles.
I want to thank u for this awesome review, and Insomniac for this masterpiece!
I can't decide between the first 3 games. I love them all equally and for different reasons
It's such a fantastic trilogy!
How the hell do you have less than 2,000 subscribers? This video has so much love and care put into it
Thank you for such kind words!
I started at the first RC when I was little, I did not really understand English back then but I was super hyped every time a new RC game came out, and I am still hyped whenever it happens today. Even if they aren't thematically as good as the original 4 on PS2.
I do have a couple of gripes with RC2 and why I kinda prefer the original and 3.
The glider and the ship combat were just a bit too infuriating for me and I liked the NPC's and aesthetics of 1 a bit more with the infobots showing you locations while in 2 random tv screens happen to show you what you need.
I think it was TheGamingBritShow that made a review on it that I did agree with the most.
Still, RC2 is absolutely amazing.
Fair enough, they're not the best designed features. Still, I find it to be a small enough part of the game to not drag it down much. I prefer 2's variety of different gameplay styles that don't last long over 3's almost exclusive focus on the run and gun aspect (also sacrificing some exploration elements and level details in the process). I find the Galactic Rangers missions for instance very repetitive as a result.
R&C2 Is the kind of game I give a full playthrough every few years and always enjoy. An absolutely timeless classic.
Definitely!
These videos are top quality stuff, I never would have guessed your sub count! Glad the R&C month thing seems to have worked out for you, I'm excited to see where you can take this channel going forward!
Going Commando was always my favorite, and I played all four PS2 games as a kid with basically zero knowledge of the fanbase's opinions - having formed my own opinions completely in a vacuum, it's interesting how closely they seem to mirror yours. I will always remember this game fondly & the way it delivers satisfying, engaging gameplay at an impossibly consistent rate. I even remember feeling kind of let down by UYA, playing it after GC - the linear levels really sucked away a ton of replay value & overall engagement for me. It felt like a slightly undercooked and underdeveloped game, in comparison deadlocked was tightly focused & nailed everything it set out to do, and GC was ambitious and experimental and absolutely dripping with creativity & charm.
Thanks! Very well said, I do agree with your points about UYA and DL, but even so, I prefer UYA a fair bit more, since it's more of an R&C experience.
@@arcaedonluminos666 Naturally, that's the kind of game most of us expect from the franchise anyway :P
I think deadlocked is still S-tier as far as spinoffs are concerned, but it is very much still a spinoff. I really adore the arena gameplay personally but it's fine if we never get a 'deadlocked 2'. any more would just get stale and overstay its welcome, even if i do enjoy it
DL is extremely replayable so I can keep playing that and have a great time whenever. UYA on the other hand feels a lot more 'one-and-done' for me. I still love every minute of it, but once the credits roll it's harder to keep playing it
@@DELTARYZ Yeah, I don't think DL2 should be made either, mostly because I don't think Insomniac could recapture its feel nowadays. I'm glad the first one exists though, it's a great spin-off!
Man the thought of a four year playing this game is wild and makes me feel both stupid and old, when I was four the entirety of my gaming experience was sitting in front of a Pac Man machine with no quarters thinking the demo vid was me playing the game, or my baby sitter handing me an unplugged controller and letting me think I was controlling Tails.
I ended up in your corner of content material, because i was thinking of picking up a ps3 just for the trilogy remaster, just for going commando. Its not just the nostalgia, its hands down the best one, it was too obvious
Good decision!
Dude im shocked your only got 1.3k subs I could have sworn with the level of quality youd have way more. Came for the ratchet and clank videos and stayed for whats next
Thank you! The growth started recently, so it's not stopping anytime soon.
Great video my fellow Norwegian friend! Keep up the hustle and your content and audience will grow in no time! c:
Thanks fellow Norwegian buddy! A new video is on the way.
I can very much agree with this entire video. Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando is probably my favorite game of all time and to this day I still play it over and over. Some may not agree but the music in this game was amazing. If the music from the first game was composed in stereo format, it would sound even better and it would be just as good as the second game for me. I know this is a very minor detail but it's something to pay attention to because it makes me feel more immersed into the game but that's just me lol. Anyways, this was a great video!
Thanks! Haven't really noticed any difference in sound quality between the games, other than the quality of the compositions, of course. GC's soundtrack is probably my favorite in that regard.
23:06 the Bogan's Singapore part made me laugh. I just love it
Glad to hear it XD
man i feel exactly the same i swear, it feels like 50% of my early memories are from this game
It's so good!
man that intro gets me hyped everytime ;)
It's so awesome!
This game was groundbreaking for me, the gameplay, story mode, it took things to a whole new level during my childhood and it stills holds up incredibly well
Ahead of its time!
The thing I loved the most about the story Was: it is fun to play the story again in New game plus (and has a great new game plus) because you get knowledge and with that knowledge every cutscene gets another meaning
Its probably one of the most appreciated games ever
It's very much appreciated
I knew i wasnt the only one who thought up your arsenal wasnt the best. Going commando will forever be my favorite of the series. Of course i went back to my ps2 and had to run it back. The amount of excitement I endured playing this was unbelievable. One of the best ps2 games ever without a doubt.
UYA is great, but GC is unrivaled
Megacorb has much more Potential for the future. And of course a hidden, badass, smart Antagonist, who controlls Everything from the shadows, since R&C2.
Oquark was just a scapgoat, to distract the attention away from Megacorb.
Oh my god, never considered that scenario!
favorite by far,the colours bring me in all one with everything else
The colors are so nice!
This and Gladiator are the two games I've played the most, but this is definitely the one I have the most memory of. I have all the PS2 games, but only the first and third got so heavily scratched they'd barely run anymore, so I don't remember them as much.
Thanks to the HD collection, I've realised I actually enjoy a lot more about RaC1 than I remember, but 2 still remains my favourite, with Gladiator close behind.
The HD Collection also made me appreciate the first game more, and 2 and 3 really while I was going through an R&C Future Series phase.
ive probably beaten this game like 100+ times its just sooo addicting n i never understood why i never got sick of it
That's a lot!
Possibly the most pivotal game of my childhood. I think I have more hours put into playing and replaying going commando than any other game since then.
Same, along with 1, 3, ToD and ACIT
R&C2 is my favorite in the series
Nice!
The year was 2007. I was just starting high school and I felt my childhood was over. Made me really sad because I was in no hurry to grow up. I thought everything was gonna change, everything was going to be different. It kind of scared me.
Then one day in Best Buy with my mom I saw it. “Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction”. I had to have it. I begged my mom to get it. We didn’t even have a PS3 but I didn’t care. I was gonna slam it in my PS2 and hope for the best. (My emotions were getting the better of me, lol). She said maybe later.
For the next month or so I told my mom how I wanted a PS3 for Christmas. But she told me how expensive they were and how I was going to be “SOOOOO SAAAAD”. She said it so much that I started to believe her. Maybe next year.
Fast forward to Christmas same year. I was opening my presents smallest to biggest because that’s how I liked to do it. Because of this, I opened one present my mom didn’t think about. In the box was an assortment of video games, and right there in the corner was my dream game. A pair of Lombax ears with a shocked robot on his back. I held it in my hands, my jaw dropped and I was about to scream. My mom quickly saw my face, knew her error, and snatched the game from my hands. But it was too late. I knew. If she got me a PS3 game, she must have got me a PS3. A few presents later and there she was. I was ecstatic to say the least. Finally my mom gave me my game back and I was soo happy.
I spent the rest of my Christmas break playing that game. We only had one tiny TV that had HDMI that was dedicated for the PS3 use, but I didn’t care. The graphics looked just as amazing and the game was as fun as ever. It was the Ratchet and Clank I always remembered except bigger and HD with new twists and turns and a more cinematic story.
Tools of Destruction is my favorite game in the series for all the reasons that people love it, but to me, it’s also because it came at a point in my life where I needed that connection to my childhood to help me through the next chapter in my life. And I’m happy to say the series continued and I never lost touch with it, neither my childhood or Ratchet and Clank.
Nice story, I can def see why ToD is your favorite!
Cute story bro. Been there :) +rep
Using the upgraded Spiderbot Glove on the Thugs 4 Less Leader reduces the fight to a mere 4 minutes. Stand behind a building where he can't spot Ratchet, walk the spider to his feet and barrage him with bombs.
I've done that before. Nowadays I just spend most of my weapons cutting down his health and finishing him off with turrets.
I played this game when i was 5 after i played the first one at my cousins and replayed it many times since. Its always had the nostalgia to make me love it but it truely was an amazing game outside the nostalgia aswell. Always has been my favourite
It's wonderful when a game doesn't have to rely on nostalgia to be amazing!
Ayo this is an epic video
That's epic to hear
I really enjoyed the ship sections personally because of the bolts and customizations
Yeah it's pretty cool!
I remembered i got a PS2 on Black Friday in 2007 and a GameStop employee accidentally gave me the wrong disc of Ratchet and Clank as i was supposed to get the first one not the second. I didn’t noticed the mistake as i enjoyed playing Going Commando and got sad that i lost the disc. In 2012 i got the original and i thought it was going commando but it wasn’t, saddened that the original wasn’t Going Commando i still loved playing the game as its now my favorite game franchise of all time. Going Commando is my favorite game of the series and my favorite video game of all time
Quite an interesting story lol
I suppose I have to cut this game some slack now after watching this video.
Kinda makes me wanna avoid going back and experiencing my current R&C favorites for fear of not enjoying them as much as I do in my memory.
It's possible to acknowledge flaws without letting them hinder your enjoyment too much, that's the case with many of my favorite games.
Now that I've beated Ratchet and clank 2, time to watch this video!
Edit: Great review! I loved the game!
Thank you, glad you loved it!
My favorite part with the charge boots in this game is that I found a glitch on my own where spamming the charge-boots and power strike can randomly give you invulnerability which is VERY useful of that SnowHell collect-a-thon planet. I believe it only works on the PS3 version. Edit: The Invulnerability does not extend to environmental hazard with the water the dragons emerge from.
I really hope someday they remake this. I love RC2 going cammando
Hope it gets a 1:1 remake in that case, not like the original's reimagining.
@@arcaedonluminos666 True, I did enjoy the reimagining, but I think we would all love a proper remake of the first game.
I loved these games when I was a kid and still do. A game that I play right now that has similar weapons like Ratchet and clank is Destiny.
Haven't played Destiny, but I've heard mixed opinions on it.
Just recently finished this game for the second time, with the first being on my original PS2. Damn, what an 18 year gap! I played the HD version on my PS3, but honestly, I would like to play it again on my original PS2 hardware. I'm planning on playing "Up your Arsenal" to finish the original trilogy and am waiting to buy a PS5 once a "Rift Apart" releases. In the meantime, I wan to go back to Tools of Destruction and finally play through the PS4 remake of the first game, which I haven't done yet. I sincerely hope that Insomniac continues this series and never lets the platforming flame of Ratchet and Clank extinguish. Now, if Naughty Dog would just revive Jak and Daxter...
Sounds like a good plan! I doubt ND would revisit the J&D series sadly, as they already cancelled a Jak 4 they were considering a decade ago. Hopefully some other studio will take over and deliver a worthy new J&D experience.
25:46 "I might not have a say in how well these tracks are composed" I am pleased to be able to interject that the music theory behind R&C music tends to be really cool, not only in terms of key, but also time signature. David Bergeaud often uses unusual time signatures in his compositions, as well as interesting musical scales and awesome key changes. For example, he sometimes uses the octotonic scale (eg Blackwater City). And going through some of the areas in order shows what I mean about the time signatures:
Aranos: 6/4
Oozla: 11/8, 5/4
Wupash Nebula: Intro is in 3/4 + 12/8 polyrhythm? And if so, that 12/8 layer is grouped as 5/8 followed by 7/8. WTF?! I had to put the song on half speed to have a clue what the heck was even going on, but it doesn't even sound 'off'.
Maktar Nebular Arena: 5/8 + 4/4 polyrhythm; also includes octotonic and possibly whole tone scale, and has a really bizarre interjection of a single bar of 3/4, which might be in a different tempo and different key, and then just goes back to the main tune as if it were the most natural thing in the world! How the f did he even come up with that?!
That's great to hear! I didn't doubt he did a good job, but alas, I'm no music expert.
Tbh I appreciate the honesty of saying you couldn't comment on the composition; a lot of people might not have considered the music theory as a factor. Also, I have been listening to the R&C2 soundtrack and editing my comment; I only just finished XD
Also, great video; I have subbed :)
@@patmorley4396 Thank you very much! The soundtrack surely has to be great if it works outside the game as well!
After playing the PS4 remake I’m DYING to replay these on ps3.
I really wish insomniac would have chosen to remaster the original trilogy rather than badly remake only the original.
To see this game in particular with bumped up graphics? Oof id die. I think that’s the whole reason I want the new ps5 game. Since it brings back “thugs for less”
Would've been nice, hopefully it happens on PS5.
Hard to think that ratchet and clank is now legally old enough to drink
They grow up so fast!
One of my if not my favorite game ever 🔥😼
I will never forgive Sony for removing the names from the UK versions of these games.
Grave mistake there!
As someone who never grew up with the series, but has played all of them, I'd honestly place R&C 1 as my favourite of the original trilogy.
Don't get me wrong, I love the sequels and 2 comes extremely close, but I personally found 1s tone, story, presentation and more puzzle/ strategy focused gameplay more appealing.
1 was more of a platformer with TPS elements, while 2 was more of a TPS with platformer elements. I think it all comes down which genre you prefer, and for me, it's platformers.
Platformers is my favorite genre too, and I do love the original, but it's mainly the movement of the game that brings it down a bit for me.
Good video dropped you a sub
Thank ye!
With the exception of the 2nd and 3rd Thugs-4-Less gang leader boss fight (since he’s too talkative), this is my favorite video game too!
Not a fan of his bosses either, but I love his ramblings
You know your old when james arnold taylor started this when he was around 30 years old and now he's currently 51 ☠
Oh damn, never thought of that...

Always preferred Going Commando over Up Your Arsenal, yet UYA always got the spotlight. I never understood that. GC had some of the best weapons and the absolute BEST Arena Mode out of all the games in the entire franchise.
Yeah, pretty weird that UYA got way more spotlight despite feeling fairly shallow in comparison. Ironically enough though, I prefer Annihilation Nation over GC's arenas (the gauntlet paths at least).
R&C2 was my first experience in seeing a whole game with a story. I used to watch my dad play when I was younger- id get to stay up later and watch him play late into the night. I used to play Ratchet 1 on a demo disc and my dad used to buy and sell PS2 games so I’d always have an opportunity to play a game I’d seen on a demo disc, even if it was just for a short time.
I’ve just picked this game up for PS2 now in mint condition and I’m hoping insomniac would take the feedback onboard about the PS4 version being an empty insult to the original serious rather than arrogantly dismissing it.
Veldig bra!
Takk! Fellow Norwegian? R&C PS4 reviewed really well, so Insomniac might only listen to critics unfortunately.
Truly one of my favorites I miss it so much :( not having a PlayStation to play it atm is big feels lmao
Hope you get the opportunity to revisit it soon
Going Commando is one of the four R&C I've played (others including Original, Size Matters and the PS4 ''reboot''), and is probably my top 3 game of all time. Haven't had the chance to play other R&C games, but still love the series, and would love to at least to play all the ones Imsomniac makes onward. Maybe some older ones I missed as well.
Good idea!
@@arcaedonluminos666 Yeah, I would hope older titles would be added into later consoles to have a chance to play those as well.
@@Olempis That really should be done. Quite a few of them can be played on the PS2, a couple on PSP, almost all of them on the PS3, the original trilogy on Vita, only 1 on PS4 (ignoring PS Now) and 2 on PS5. We need all on PS5!
In my opinion, the soundtrack of these early chapters were fantastic. It is perfectly paired with the game ambience.
You said it, pal!
Oh I Just Gotta Love That Game
Hell yeah!
12:50 i thought you were gonna say nanotechnology XD
Doesn't sound too far off
I played the demo of the first game about 1000 times, playing this just blew my mind
I can imagine that being quite a leap
@@arcaedonluminos666 Exactly, everything was suped up and shiny,, the upgrade system hit me first, then finding the old gadgetron shop was the best Easter egg in any game
dont know why this get recommended, but i like this video.
Nice, sounds like the algorithm works
Going Commando is my favorite too. Story felt rushed at the end but the weapons were the best in the series!
True that
@@arcaedonluminos666 I got the game for Christmas too lol
@@vincentkrych2158 Lol nice
I love this game, easily the best Ratchet game overall. Gotta replay it soon.
Good idea
29:36 Why is no one talking about that he is only that large in Gameplay... in the cutscene he's just 1 head larger than Ratchet. Good to so in the first Cutscene, where you can See Ratchet and the salesman in one shot.
This game deserves a remaster, but just a graphical overhaul. no changes otherwise.
Yep
im not sure if this is my fav game ever. but thats already telling. the gameplay is perfect for a 3d platformer/3rd person shooter mix, i dont think theres room or need to improve that. and the iconic soundtracks will probably keep this game above new releases.
Yeah, as much as I'm looking forward to Rift Apart, it won't have as good of a soundtrack, and I doubt I'll prefer its writing.
I honestly I would put the three games in the original trilogy almost at the same level. RaC 2 was probably the better one though in soundtrack and some level design, but the minigames and unexploited RPG mechanics really takes away a good chunk of the game.
RaC 1 has the story, very few minigames and the levels are my favorite but the controls werent too polished and the RPG mechanics were almost too non existent (although this is a personal preference; some people probably would prefer this for its combat simplicity and is totally respectable).
And UyA has the best weapons, very challenging bosses, multiplayer, RPG mechanics and controls but the levels and soundtrack itself arent too interesting like the other two (although i dont saying that is bad; is still pretty good).
My rank would probably be RaC 2 = 3 > 1. Although the trilogy itself is amazing and all of the games deserve its praise.
Good video.
They all have their strengths and weaknesses. 1 has the best story and atmosphere, but has clunky controls. I love almost everything about 2, but it does have some things that drag it down a bit. 3 is the funniest and most polished, but is quite bland compared to its predecessors in regards to gameplay and visuals. My ranking of them is 2>1>3.
To me this is when the game began to fully expand on it's entire universe and it's difficulty.
I hated the sweeper bots the first time you encounter them but thanks to my drive to discover further into the game's world I kept on.
It's a shame that UYA is a bit rushed compared to this it would have been awesome to have the turbo slider races AND still have space combat like come on.
I love how it expanded the universe and went out of its comfort zone to take place in a whole other galaxy. UYA would've indeed benefitted from such things, and grindrails.
I rebought a ps2 7 years ago just for the r&c series. No regrets except that i was crazy for selling the ps2 for a ps3 in the first place
At least you fixed that mistake
