I think Rift Apart would be on the same level as Crack in Time in terms of game play. Unfortunately the storyline has become so convoluted over the series its almost impossible to beat the Nostalgic feel of the first 3 games which is not necessarily a bad thing either. It should be a really good game.
@@arcaedonluminos666 I don't know when you plan to re-review them but Rift Apart would definitely go lower for me than the top 4 because of the writing. Everything else was amazing though.

Great video! I very much agree with your rankings, especially since I also favor Going Commando as my most favorite in series. I subbed you, and is much excited to see more of your work. Also, Ratchet and Clank has stayed as my childhood ever since I got a PS2, and it's been growing consistently since then. Never get tired of exploring planets and going bananas with the weapon variety.
It’s crazy how much I agree with this list in every way. Going Commando has always been my favorite. I always felt it had the best level design and was the perfect sequel and really expanded on the gameplay of the original in every way. I love R&C so much.
I’m a huge sucker for Up Your Arsenal and it’s definitely my favorite, but these top 5 are pretty much universal and I can respect basically any placement order of them because I love them all.
For the most part I agree with this list. I would have put Deadlocked higher, as I loved the co op, weapons and mods, and arena challenges. I would have put the original lower due to lack of weapon experience and lack of updated mechanics.
i played every r&c game the summer after finishing grad school. i was applying to 10+ jobs a day, my partner was traveling for work, + i was alone with very little money + no friends in town. these games kept me company + got me through that rly tough + lonely summer.
Found this channel out of R&C nostalgia, and subbed for this amazing retrospective and review. Continue doing what you're doing and I hope you become big soon!
A crack in time was SO fucking fun. It was my first ratchet and clank game, even though I watched a few playthrough of the original and one or two others. I love the inclusion of clanks father figure, and azimuth as a sympathetic villain. It serves as a cautionary reminder of what Rachet could become if he became obsessed in trying to restore his lost parents and race.
I played so much Ratchet and Clank when I was young and it inspired me so much even to this day. My first one I played was going commando. And I agree it is the best one!
From me gameplay wise its ACIT that feels it had so much. Story wise I'd say RAC1, TOD and ACIT are equally great stories. The hardest game (if you put it on the hardest difficulty) is definitely deadlocked (or gladiator if you like it) and a hard game like that makes it more satisfying when you beat it. I hope that Rift Apart has a gameplay that surpasses ACIT, a great story just like RAC1, TOD, and ACIT plus you can set the game on the hardest difficulty that would break me mentally just like deadlocked. Btw i totally agree that going commando is arguably the best RAC game if you consider what it truly offered to us
In my opinion a crack in time had the best ever ratchet and clank game, gameplay and combat in the series, It was my first ever game I made effort to get platinum trophy
I totally agree with your ranking and everything you said I love the R&C's franchise, A Crack In Time is a masterpiece, Up Your Arsenal is amazing and everything is perfect with Going Gommando !
I really appreciate the effort you put into this video! I’m a huge R&C fan, so I always enjoy seeing people’s opinions on the games. I will say my list would probably be a lot different in some key areas, with Deadlocked and R&C1 being higher and GC being a lot lower, but to each their own! Great video, and you earned a subscriber!
In the Deadlocked one you mentioned about the Holoshield being useless in Up your Arsenal, as someone who’s went through a One Life no armour run of the game for both normal mode and challenge mode. That shield can sometimes be the difference between the death and success of a run. Yea, Ratchet 3 was my favourite game of the series and I played it so much with no armour, I decided to do that challenge and was successful on my second run.
@@arcaedonluminos666 I can definitely admit that playing normally, it’s unnecessary but doing that run, I found a small love for it. Even if it was just to sponge a few attacks while I peek out to pick off a key target, it helped a fair bit. Especially when later nigh on everything can one hit you and some areas aren’t the best for dodging on.
@@arcaedonluminos666 If you can get it up early, absolutely if there’s no health about. Being able to get up above the point of being one shot helps... But again, later you don’t want to be hit period as 200 health with no armour frequently ends in a one shot, especially with challenge mode. The shield generator can sometimes prevent the one shot so both of them are useful tools.
My two favorite games in the series are probably Deadlocked and TOD, but I understand your reasoning for having them lower. Deadlocked just captured that pure fun factor in the combat that I love about the series, and it’s easily the most replayable game in the series imo. TOD was the first time I played through a Ratchet and Clank game fully so there’s some nostalgia ngl, but the world, gadgets, and weapon selection are some of my favorite of the series
Going Commando became my first Ratchet & Clank game. I recalled receiving it for Christmas Eve in 2004 with my PS2 Slim, along with Scaler. Played the heck out of it, and still think it is the best entry in the entire OG Trilogy .
Pretty good list, i agree with your list from 15 to 6 but 1 to 5 for me would be 1. Up Your Arsenal 2. Going Commando 3. Crack in Time 4. Tools of Destruction 5. Original
This was such a well made video with some really good points and great video editing. I can tell you are super passionate about this series and you deserve so many more views!
Size Matters holds a special place in my heart for being the first RAC game ive played. That said, Deadlocked is a close second, along with the original and going commando.
I like ur ranking but my number one is tools of destruction, the nostalgia that game gives me is off the charts, love the weapons and gameplay plus the music
Fantastic video. I agreed with a lot of what you said. I would say the PSP games get more flack than deserved, though they are better on PSP and Vita than their ports. I beat both games and completed them. They actually have their own museums called the “High Impact Treehouse” so that’s a fun factoid. Like anyone who grows, my list changes as I do. There are so many great aspects to each game. Here is my list at the moment: 13) Full Frontal Assault - Good gimmick gameplay is still gimmick. 12) Secret Agent Clank - Good game, varied gameplay, complicated plot. 11) All 4 One - Great multiplayer game. Sometimes I rank it higher. Most underrated. 10) Quest For Booty - I love this game for its Pirate atmosphere and story. Shame it was soo short. 9) Size Matters - Great PSP title. Had some good character moments too. 8) Into The Nexus - Spooky atmosphere and introduction of Jetpack. 7) Ratchet and Clank (PS4) - Where it fails in story in makes up for in polish. 6) Ratchet and Clank (PS2) - Original and fantastic introduction to the characters. Completely organic. 5) Deadlocked - Total blast to play. Non stop action. Totally metal. 4) Up Your Arsenal - Introduction of Nefarious. Fun gameplay and funny writing. 3) A Crack In Time - best story and great puzzles and space exploration. Not enough planet levels, though. 2) Going Commando - most variety out of any R&C game. 1) Tools of Destruction - Fantastic levels, great weapons, original R&C formula perfected. And let’s not forget the Golden Groovitron, a limitless supply of funk.
Thank you very much! Yeah, I'm sure the PSP games are better on an actual PSP, but I never had enough reasons to buy that system. That's a very nice list, glad to see some ToD appreciation, even though I've come to prefer other games over it.
@@thefurry7165 What makes you question that? GC is one of the longer games in the series, has the biggest weapon roster, plenty of different maxigames, and lots of bonus content.
@@arcaedonluminos666 Before you read, I want to apologize for the long paragraph and I want to state that this is more of a personal opinion and not an actual argument or anything like that First of all, longer doesn't mean more variety, which is really evident in GC, almost all the planets look the same or very similar and there's little variety in atmosphere, the weapon roster is fine although it recycles various weapons from the first, the music honestly isn't nearly as good as in the first game or even as in Size Matters, and it is also the game that, in my opinion, killed the main characters' personalities and motivations, not to mention that it's polluted plot and it's writing in general, again in my opinion, make Size Matters and Deadlocked look like the proper sequels to the original R&C (ignoring Quark's redemption and all that stuff that happened in the third game). The minigames in the second game are decent I guess, although I personally think they lack polish even compared to the ones in the original an I simply don't enjoy them as much. The new auto-aim was a huge improvement over the first game, I'll give GC that, but I think that strafing doesn't really add that much to the game and the planets can sometimes feel kind of linear compared to the first game. I personally prefer Deadlocked over both GC and UYA, although mostly because of the writing, and themes of the story and characters, rather than the gameplay and level design.
@@thefurry7165 So your response was more about questioning GC's quality and not its variety? I mean, you do bring up levels looking similar (which I agree with to some extent, even though most of the levels do have something about them that distinguish them from the others), but beyond that, I don't think it can be denied how much variety the game has, regardless of how polished that variety may be.
Going Commando was my favorite too. The story felt rushed at the end but the weapons were the best in the series I think. The power of the RYNO II made it so kick ass!
Going commando was the first one my friend and I play of the entire franchise when it first came out, we were blown away by the intergalactic beings and games graphics lol.
The fact that I’ve started with Size Matters and Agent Clank made me like the franchise even more the more I’ve discovered of it so I like size matters when I was younger

A Crack in Time on #2, that's ma Boiii. For me it's on #1. Most story focused, most meta like (because of clank role & the clock), most serious, dark & mature one, balance between Ratchet & clanks importance, nefaruis Comeback, General Azimuth, and of course, for the first Time A LOT Side Things to do combined with beautiful coloured free roam galaxys (in general the colours & Athmosphere of the Game). This TOPS All the Ratchet & Clanks with easy for me! Nevertheless Ratchet trillogy & deadlocked are ALWAYS nostalgia honorable Mentions.
Always a pleasure seeing a list with Going Commando on top and rightfully so. Game had the best level designs, some of the best weapons and progression system, character interactions, story, gameplay.... I can go on. My favorite game of all time and nothing but OoT has come close.
ACIT platinum is pretty easy tbh, especially since you don't need to do skill points to get it. I suppose it takes a while to fully upgrade all the weapons, but I love the game so much that I don't mind playing about 3 playthroughs to 100% it!
@@arcaedonluminos666 It's better on the PSP, the PS2 version is borked and way harder than it should be. Also it's enjoyabl in it's own unique way, also it's better to think of it as a side story as oppose to a mainline game.

A4O still holds a place in my heart for being the first game I got with my ps3 and the enjoyment I had with the coop. I'd probably rather play it than anything else post future and I have more fond memories of it than R&C 1. Although that's not saying much since I'm only older than R&C 1 by a couple months and young me vastly preferred 2 & 3's more focused gameplay.
Thank you for telling it like it is, R&C UYA is way overrated and even as a kid when I got it on release, it felt off and lacking many qualities as you and GamingBrit have described. For me R&C GC will always be the top spot on my list.
My top3 ranking got a bit different, for me it was Crack in Time (just my favorite of all of them) > Deadlocked (damn i loved replaying this one so much) > Tools of destruction (for new arc in story with which i was amazed). Everything else prob the same as yours, good vid 😊
ACiT & R&C2 are also my two favourite R&C games. I put ACiT just ahead or R&C2 due to how good the story is. I really hope Rift Apart will give these two a run for their money.

I agree with just about all of this except that I don't like the Deadlocked weapon mods nearly as much as the raritanium system. Every ranking is totally understandable and honestly spot on including number 1. It's something I came to terms with over the years that R&C3 isn't the best, it is for nostalgia, but not the best Ratchet & Clank. Also I think just about every R&C fan recognizes ACIT as one of the top 3 or 4 in the series. You did a great job man!
40:14 Wait a minute... WAIT A F*****G MINUTE... You can kill that airship bringing down the swingshot bridge?!?!?! I played the original Trilogy for thounsand of hours and never ever considered the idea of doing that.
Going commando is also my favorite of the series. I played it so much as a kid despite getting up your arsenal before it. This game gave you so much I kinda miss it.
Commenting for the algorithm. Nice video man, made me a little sad seeing where this series seems to be heading compared to where it came from. I bought a PS3 a while back just so I could play the OT and I enjoyed it far more than the re-made PS4 version
Going Comando had a clear theme of consumerism and capitalism(like the first game). You can see that in the the satirical commercials in the games cutsceens and the manner in with the Thugs for less turns on Angela, becuse Megacorp offer them a lot of bolts. Plus I thinks its nice that Ratchet is so bored and eager for adventure, that he takes the job offer form Quak without thinking that thier may be something suspicious about it. Plus why is it a bad argumentto say 3 is more linearity
Here's hoping that Rift Apart will be the next defining R&C game. I first played A Crack in Time in 2016, I finally got myself a PS3 for the sole purpose of playing the Future Saga that I missed out as a kid. I was blown away by ACiT, it truly moved the scope of the series into something bigger both plotwise and in gameplay for the exact reasons you explained in the video. I want Rift Apart to have space exploration with your ship, moons, armor, new weapons and less returning weapons, expressive animation as in the PS2 era, and good writing (at least one that's better than the reboot).
1st one had the best story, weapon equip sounds and transformation in Ratchet’s hands was awsome . 2nd one was the upgrade of the first one, better weapons, same awsome music with some bangers and Gladiator is like a edgy Ratchet with good weapons and combat.. those are my favorites
My personal favorite was R+C going commando, and dont get me wrong its a fantastic game, but it was the last game my dad ever played with me. It will always hold a special place in my heart as the most nostalgic game I'll ever know simply from that. My dad was my first gaming RUclipsr, he was funny as hell and let me play with him, how could I ask for more? Insomniac will probably never know the importance their studio has had on my life :)
R&C was really scary back in the day, especially Nebula G34. The Thug Leader's Giganto-Mech scared me the most, I didn't even dare face it until I got a bit older lol.

@@jaystev Of the first game, the final level might be my favorite, since it's a very poetic revisit to the first level, and is greatly expanded upon. I think Nebula G34 follows closely behind with its superb atmosphere and variety. Some others I love are Rilgar, Gemlik Base and Kalebo III. My least favorite is Orxon, well, the Clank section at least lol, it just drags. Otherwise, maybe Eudora, simply because the main path can be cleared in a few minutes lol, but I still like it.

Deadlocked is probably my favorite, followed by UYA and then ACIT.
That being said, the video and the opinions in it were well thought out, so I'll gladly slap the like button.
Much appreciated!
I think Rift Apart would be on the same level as Crack in Time in terms of game play. Unfortunately the storyline has become so convoluted over the series its almost impossible to beat the Nostalgic feel of the first 3 games which is not necessarily a bad thing either. It should be a really good game.
Yeah, I'll still love it, but the writing will have a big say in where I'll eventually rank it.
@@arcaedonluminos666 I don't know when you plan to re-review them but Rift Apart would definitely go lower for me than the top 4 because of the writing. Everything else was amazing though.
@@benedeknagy4817 I don't think I'll remake this video, but I have mentioned where I rank Rift Apart in my review of it. That ranking still stands, with Rift Apart inbetween Up Your Arsenal and the Original at 4th place.

For the most part I agree with this list. I would have put Deadlocked higher, as I loved the co op, weapons and mods, and arena challenges. I would have put the original lower due to lack of weapon experience and lack of updated mechanics.
Understandable
Deadlocked was the most memorable for me since my friends and I would play the heck out of it together. Great video man

Good place to start!
Btw i totally agree that going commando is arguably the best RAC game if you consider what it truly offered to us
Deadlocked is indeed the hardest game in the series. Hopefully Rift Apart can bring some of the challenge back, and more importantly a good story!
In my opinion a crack in time had the best ever ratchet and clank game, gameplay and combat in the series, It was my first ever game I made effort to get platinum trophy
It used to be my favorite, and it's not far behind GC to me today. I think it was my first platinum trophy too!

Thank you very much!
Fair enough. I don't doubt it can be useful in some situations, but you probably won't need it playing the game normally.
@@scottishboy112 Yeah that is true. I believe it also steals health from enemies after levelling it up a bit, which I imagine can help in such a run.
@@scottishboy112 I see.
Deadlocked's combat is unmatched, and ToD's levels in particular are very fleshed out and fun!
Going Commando became my first

it for Christmas Eve in 2004 with my PS2 Slim, along with Scaler. Played the heck out of it, and still think it is the best entry in the entire OG Trilogy .

Here is my list at the moment:
13) Full Frontal Assault - Good gimmick gameplay is still gimmick.
> Going Commando

@@thefurry7165 What makes you question that? GC is one of the longer games in the series, has the biggest weapon roster, plenty of different maxigames, and lots of bonus content.
@@arcaedonluminos666 Before you read, I want to apologize for the long paragraph and I want to state that this is more of a personal opinion and not an actual argument or anything like that
First of all, longer doesn't mean more variety, which is really evident in GC, almost all the planets look the same or very similar and there's little variety in atmosphere, the weapon roster is fine although it recycles various weapons from the first, the music honestly isn't nearly as good as in the first game or even as in Size Matters, and it is also the game that, in my opinion, killed the main characters' personalities and motivations, not to mention that it's polluted plot and it's writing in general, again in my opinion, make Size Matters and Deadlocked look like the proper sequels to the original R&C (ignoring Quark's redemption and all that stuff that happened in the third game).

Understandable that ACIT is your favorite, I also love it for those same reasons!
Always a pleasure seeing a list with Going Commando on top and rightfully so. Game had the best level designs, some of the best weapons and progression system, character interactions, story, gameplay.... I can go on. My favorite game of all time and nothing but OoT has come close.
Not to mention how much it innovated!
My headcanon is that Secret Agent Clank is in-universe either a grand finale movie for the holo-series or at least the final arc.
Fair enough
I think of it as a dream that clank has inbetween quest for booty and a crack in time.
Let's not forget how ACIT platinum trophy was a grind fest to get. And the black and red armor.

ACIT platinum is pretty easy tbh, especially since you don't need to do skill points to get it. I suppose it takes a while to fully upgrade all the weapons, but I love the game so much that I don't mind playing about 3 playthroughs to 100% it!

Commenting for the algorithm. Nice video man, made me a little sad seeing where this series seems to be heading compared to where it came from. I bought a PS3 a while back just so I could play the OT and I enjoyed it far more than the re-made PS4 version
Thanks for helping me out, man! It really is a shame about the writing of late, I hope Rift Apart can improve on it.
I agree with you that Ratchet and Clank 3 is overrated. The first two games have a better story and are more open.
Indeed
ah yes, the linearity = bad argument
going commando also have the worst writting of the 3
Going Comando had a clear theme of consumerism and capitalism(like the first game). You can see that in the
the satirical commercials in the games cutsceens and the manner in with the Thugs for less turns on Angela, becuse Megacorp offer them a lot of bolts.
Rift Apart having all those things would be great! Not sure if the ship is even needed though, given the travelling between rifts.
1st one had the best story, weapon equip sounds and transformation in Ratchet’s hands was awsome . 2nd one was the upgrade of the first one, better weapons, same awsome music with some bangers and Gladiator is like a edgy Ratchet with good weapons and combat.. those are my favorites
