I know i’m 10 months late, but by technicality the spyro trilogy got a full complete it with his video on the reignited trilogy (although I think his score for the original year of the dragon was just play it)
@Ryan Schilling to be fair, this game was proving to go into a whole new direction with its characters, gameplay, and features, including the heavily underrated multiplayer modes.
My favourite is definitely 2 but 3 is a very close second. The perfect blend of gameplay, world design, character design, etc. Without going too far into obsessive levels of polish like the more recent games, which ate into the pacing and branching gameplay. ACiT got close in a few ways.
That's awesome you recommended Golden Bolt. I watched that and many other of his videos and it gives so much background on the development of the game which, as a game I grew up playing, changed how I saw the game a lot
I remember first playing the game when I was like 8-9 years old. Maybe even younger. The memories of going to annihilation nation, finding out Quark ran away, the PDA, the RHYNOCIRATOR!!! This is like swimming in nostalgia tears man. God I miss those days, those simple ass days where I just got to play these games and forget everything around me. Simpler times. Adulthood sucks sometimes. Thank god I can ease that suckiness with videos like this. Well more importantly, thank you Jirard. I wish I had your beard.
One of the reasons why I would say Up Your Arsenal is probably the best Ratchet games (if not one of the best by far), is that this was the game that gave us who I would say is one of my Top favorite VG Bad Guys of all time: Dr. Nefarious. Something about the way he conducts himself while being evil, actually being rather intimidating and even hilarious at the same time (such as his brilliant quirk of shorting out if he gets too angry and having to be slapped in order to get back into working order). Overall, I just love this character and I have a big smile whenever he is the main antagonist (especially in the latest game where it he was better than ever there too).
Living in a small town all those years ago, I went into a store selling a handful of games. R&C:GC was on the shelf, I was able to eventually acquire it only to realize after it actually had Up Your Aresenal in it. Many of hours went into that gem of happenstance.
This is one of my replay every year or every other year games. One of the best PS2 games and definitely one of the only reasons i still have my PS2! Thanks for completing it!
I sold my ps2 years ago. I was so happy when ps plus put all these old titles on ps5. This one has great nostalgia and replay value for me. A classic for sure!
One of the best games of all time. I've probably completed it fully at least 30 to 40 times, and I still complete a normal and challenge mode run of this & ratchet 2 every year.
This game is my friggin childhood. I remember playing it again and again growing up. I got a lot of mileage playing the pvp against my brother. Easily among my favorite games of all time.
Many like to say that the third game was the best one on ps2, I myself have a hard time choosing between the second and third game because I love them equally. The third game had stuff that I wished was in the second game, but the third game removed stuff that I loved from the second game such as the space fights and some of the levels in the third games are to linear compared to the second which gave you more room to explore the planets. Both games are awesome and I replay all three Ratchet and Clank games multiple times a year.
Me and the wife actually started playing through this one, back when the PS3 store was going to be taken down, and sadly at the time, something due to an update Sony pushed through managed to screw our PS3 up, so that we OWN the games, but we're not allowed to PLAY them, due to not having an active "license". We haven't tried to fix it since, but frankly this video makes me want to do so, so that we can actually resume enjoying this game and all it's whacky nonsense. A great video as always, Jirard, looking forward to the next one.
The first section of this video sounded so familiar. Then it hit me I had seen the Golden Bolt retrospective. Golden Bolt's videos are pretty great if you want to deep dive on the R&C series.
One of the few games with the Complete It rating that I had already completed before watching the episode, and I first completed it back before I started watching the Completionist and became more of a Completionist myself in all the games I play. I have re-completed it since then, and it's nice to see it finally being recognized on the channel.
This is the first game I ever completed back when I was a kid. It kinda started my love for completion. It is one of my favorites of all time! The Museum blew my mind back then!
I find the phenomenon of having had a much more limited gaming library prior to the rise of online stores and frequent sales (e.g. 18-25ish years ago?) absolutely fascinating. The scarcity only gave us one or two really good games at a time and that shaped and colored our first experiences by making the entire base of gamers incredibly diverse. And it's had an knock on effect on us with everything from genre to art preferences. For me, it was FF7. First one that I owned by myself and repeatedly played to completion for more than half a year straight through summer. Absolute milestone in gaming for me and my life. And, yet, I also know that if I'd been exposed to different things at a different time, that would all change. I'd still probably like it, but it wouldn't be this absolute gem on top of the shrine to me. Formative experiences are super important.
I didn’t expect it either But a ps2 game after another especially from the holidays 2004 days (san andress & ratchet 3) bring me a lot of memories. I completed the game for the first time last year because my hype for rift apart and by far it’s the easiest game to complete from the ps2 ratchet titles.
Don't forget about Deadlocked. Most people consider the ps2 games a trilogy and regard Deadlocked as a spinoff, but I disagree, it's an amazing quadrilogy.
Literally never seen a video of yours outside the random guest appearances over the years in other game related channels, but I’ve never clicked something so fast on the best R&C game ever
Hearing you talk about these games is awesome because both the Ratchet and Clank franchise and your channel embody the feeling of just playing video games for the pure joy of it. I remember so many mornings as a kid where I'd wake up early and sneak downstairs to play Going Commando or Up Your Arsenal with the volume low. I love remembering these games through the way you approach them, really getting everything you can out of a game like we had to when we were kids trying to make a game last for months! I recommend taking a look at Metal Arms: Glitch in the System some time. It's a very underrated platformer shooter from the ps2/gamecube era, with good collectibles, that really rewards exploration and different styles of play!
Glad someone else agrees that UYA is the best of the series. I know GC made alot if improvements but UYA feels like refinement. I also haven't found another game that is so rewarding for playing the past games; free weapons if you have a save from GC and 10% discount on ALL weapons if you have a save from the original! How cool is that?
Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal will always be my number 2 RAC game. My number 1 is Ratchet Deadlocked, and it’ll NEVER be topped. The only game that will top it would be Ratchet Deadlocked Remake.
Just FYI, a few of the skins for Ratchet were exclusive to the original Japanese release of the game and were only made available stateside in the PS3 Collection version of the game. Additionally, there are actually servers for the game's multiplayer. They're custom and I believe you have to have a modded PS2 to actually use them, but they still exist.
I put so many hours into that multiplayer as a kid, just messing around with other players or actually playing the objective it was genuinely awesome. Sad we can't play it anymore, a bittersweet end!
UYA would easily be the best R&C game if Crack in Time and Rift Apart didn't also happen to exist. And Nefarious just so happens to be a major part of each of them. Coincidence? I think not!
The R.Y.N.O. remains one of my favorite gaming superweapons of all time! I'll never forget that first exchange between Rachet, Clank and the Shady Salesman who introduced the original R.Y.N.O. haha
Love this game! It was one of my favourites on the PS2, I played it to death but never fully completed it. I still go back to that Courtney Gears song every now and then because it's unexpectedly awesome and fits so well with the humour and wit that this game exudes.
Glad you were able to review the original trilogy. Personally I like the first two a bit more, but UYA is still one of my favorite games. These are very important games that I hope more people get to experience and enjoy.
One of my favorite games as a kid! I remember the back of the box had ass spelled like @$$ and I got in trouble for bringing it to school lol. Thanks for the burst of nostalgia Jirard!
If Sony want some easy cash, release HD collections of beloved classics on PC. Ratchet and Clank, Jak and Daxter, Wipeout Fusion, Killzone and of course; God Of War.
Oh, God, that loading screen of the ship zooming past. My disc got all sorts of messed up and tended to just do that infinitely. It actually gave me anxiety seeing that again. Still love the game. Tied with Crack in Time for favorite R&C game.
As soon as you started getting into the crunch and how people were pulled to resistance I felt a wave of deja vu. I was like "Am I watching the completionist or The Golden Bolt?"
As a PS2 Kid, i have been recollecting and playing through great titles like this. Rachet n Clank across the board has been a PS2 staple from the very first game. That and SLY Cooper. Your doing yourself a disservice as a gamer if you do not play atleast one of these titles.
The 3rd one was the first one I played and it was fucking fantastic. It's one of my all time favourite games and one of those games that no matter how many times I play it I never get bored of it. Imo it had the best and most diverse weapons throughout the franchise as well.
It's an interesting concept where you said the protagonist of a story isn't always the main character. I think a case could be made that in the Assassin's Creed series the main character is whoever is strapped into the Animus and the protagonist is whoever their ancestor is. Some would say it's the reverse, but we're with the ancestor more often and learn about them the most.
I think the ancestor is both the main character and the protagonist. The person you play in modern times is more of a plot device. That's just the feeling I get from playing.
Good news, there's a bunch of people who made VPN servers for the UYA & Deadlocked multiplayer so you can play it now if you use a certain DNS on your PS3 or PS2 if you're not happy with the HD port.
i dont think i ever beat the first 2 ratchet and clank games but i loved them and i beat up your arsenal so many times bc it was so good and u pretty much couldnt get lost
I never had a PlayStation, but one of my friends back in the day had this game (This came out 18 years ago tho?! That makes me feel old AF). I got a chance to play it, was my first R&C game and I absolutely loved this game when I played it! I've never finished the single player because I got busy, and always wanted to go back into it because of how fun it was.
Dude ive waited literally years since i encountered your channel to complete this game since it's My favorite one un the franchise, it's a dream come true, thanks Jirard!!!!
It's so good to see Jirard cover the final game in the Ratchet and Clank Trilogy from my favorite era of gaming. Truly the best thing I've seen all day.
I love Ratchet and Clank 3 so much but my favorite one is Ratchet and Clank 2, I simply love the planets who visiting in the game and imo I prefere de storyline of the second game. Anyway awesome video !! Greetings from Belgium in Europe ^^
i held off watching this video cause i wanted to play it myself and after i completed going commando and play a small bit of up your arsenal last October, i started really playing up your arsenal at the end of November and beat it on the 5th of this month. i did not want to stop playing it lol
FINALLY! The Ratchet and Clank games were the biggest games of my childhood. Dad played the hard parts and I played the easy parts. It was a team effort to finish 1-3.
@@charKT-7461 right, and I'm not sure why. Imo it's like the best long-lasted, kid-friendly pixar video-game we've ever had. Full of joy and heart warming characters. It's just super fun 😁
Yo Jirard! Thank-you for covering this wonderful bit of my childhood that I have forever cherish. I've beaten this game so many times that I've lost count on it. I went through the entire game, earning bolts to try and Buy the RY3NO and after my 12th run, It felt so good to have such an ultimate weapon. Good times, thanks again.
Ever since watching Brett and Alex playing Hotline Miami, all I can hear when I listen to the song from the last section of this video is "Dog's Don't Attack!". Great vid, this was by far my favourite game of the series
Loved all of the Ratchet and Clank content so far! Very interested to see what you make of Tools of destruction/Crack in time, TOD seems hugely underrated to me, but that might just be nostalgia talking!
A rating well deserved for this Golden Oldie! Seeing this beauty of a game brings back so many memories for me and between me and my brothers! Enjoying and competing against each other trying to be the best at it. Story and multiplayer wise! They asking me for help and also showing what they did without my help and even giving me tips. Man do I want to time-travel right now and look at those moments again.. Thank you for this video and thank you for letting me re-visit some old and fond memories of those good times!
Love Jirard and insomniac is my favorite studio. But to say that they never participate in crunch culture shows a huge lack of research. Watch the Golden Bolt’s series on this series and you’ll learn about the c inch that impacted every single game. Crunch was all they did. They just did it better than most
It's weird, this is the only main-line Ratchet & Clank game I didn't own until Rift Apart. Had the original and GC, loved them. Just never could get this one for some reason. I ended up skipping it for Deadlocked.
Glad to see The Golden Bolt get a shout-out. Been watching their PS+ reviews for a long time and always felt they deserved more recognition. Good to see they are in the comments and saw your video!
Going Commando is still my fave R&C game overall, but I have to admit that the writing in Up Your Arsenal is superb. Ratchet imitating Courtney Gears still brings tears of laughter to my eyes all these years later!
Ratchet went from scrappy amature mechanic to a trained commando soldier who saves the galaxy from all manner of terrorists, mobsters and warlords, yet people still either dont know who he is!
This is definitely the best Ratchet and Clank game, and one of my favourite games of all time in general. I love Ratchet and Clank 1, 2, Rift Apart, and A Crack in Time, but this one is just unbeatable. Nothing will ever capture this level of magic again. The story, characters, the humour, the fun. I love every member of the Q-Force, and I love the hilarious conversations and cutscenes that happen when they're together. Qwark's funeral is one of the funniest things ever, and if anyone says any different, I must say "what a load of bull-shh!". And if anyone does find a better game, it must be... ONE OF NATURE'S MYSTERIES!!
I always find it funny how this game is actually extremely unfinished, yet it's one of the best. Gotta wonder what it would be like if they let it bake another year.
Honestly I think it's for the better. More detailed visuals in somr areas, and branching paths would be cool. But I definitely appreciate UYA for not having space and racing sections lol.
glad you liked this game, honestly it's my favorite of the series so far (haven't gotten to play rift apart yet) i just love the story and the game play in it and i'm a big fan of captain qwark and his story arc, and i learned a bit about the development process from your background info and may have to check out golden bolt's videos as well. keep up the awesome work sire :)
I found the museum through a tip I was told at like 2 or 3am a secret entrance in metropolis shows up so I'd change my clock and really grew to appreciate this game
I remember this game... In my country it was just Ratchet&clank 3, but when I illegally downloaded it to play it, I saw the title and loved it even more. I started with this game, after tried the older 2, and suddenly I was playing all its games until today. Since then I love this saga, and whenever I get a chance to buy a Ps5 and change it for the 4, I'll play its next. I hope this game will get the same fate as Minecraft and never dies 😉😄

i dont think i ever beat the first 2 ratchet and clank games but i loved them and i beat up your arsenal so many times bc it was so good and u pretty much couldnt get lost
Two words about this...
MY. CHILDHOOD!!!
Picking the best Ratchet and Clank game is like picking the best topping for an ice cream sundae
Dude ive waited literally years since i encountered your channel to complete this game since it's My favorite one un the franchise, it's a dream come true, thanks Jirard!!!!
Man, I've been watching your old videos and I really enjoy the fun part on the Intro's, and this one was just great.
Up Your Arsenal and Deadlocked are pretty much my go to jam to replay whenever I can.
Shout-out to "Dogs Don't Attack" at the end!
I never was able to enjoy this series as much post the original trilogy. But my God do the first three hold a special spot in my heart
FINALLY! The Ratchet and Clank games were the biggest games of my childhood. Dad played the hard parts and I played the easy parts. It was a team effort to finish 1-3.
Thank you for continuing the Ratchet and Clank franchise. Honestly, they don't really get the credits they deserve
Unfortunately it gets hate that it doesn’t deserve
@@charKT-7461 right, and I'm not sure why. Imo it's like the best long-lasted, kid-friendly pixar video-game we've ever had. Full of joy and heart warming characters. It's just super fun 😁
Yo Jirard! Thank-you for covering this wonderful bit of my childhood that I have forever cherish. I've beaten this game so many times that I've lost count on it. I went through the entire game, earning bolts to try and Buy the RY3NO and after my 12th run, It felt so good to have such an ultimate weapon. Good times, thanks again.
Can’t wait to see how blown away he is when he does crack in time
Ever since watching Brett and Alex playing Hotline Miami, all I can hear when I listen to the song from the last section of this video is "Dog's Don't Attack!". Great vid, this was by far my favourite game of the series
Gladiator will forever be my favourite ratchet and clank game
I love the boss music that plays when you fight Courtney Gears, such a club banger!
Glad to see you like this series. I thought you would have only played the newer titles. The original trilogy is so classic
I can't WAIT for the Deadlocked review!
Love Jirard and insomniac is my favorite studio. But to say that they never participate in crunch culture shows a huge lack of research. Watch the Golden Bolt’s series on this series and you’ll learn about the c inch that impacted every single game. Crunch was all they did. They just did it better than most
Okay I thought I knew everything about this game, but… APE ESCAPE SKIN WHAT THE HECK
Ratchet and Clank: going commando was my #1 favourite
I'm glad you did a shout out to the golden bolt, his videos are very cool
It's weird, this is the only main-line Ratchet & Clank game I didn't own until Rift Apart. Had the original and GC, loved them. Just never could get this one for some reason. I ended up skipping it for Deadlocked.
Ratcher 3, with Ratchet Gladiator, were my favorites of all Ratcher games, but also PS2 games.
Ratchet 3 and breath of the wild are 2 of the only games I’ve ever 100% before, absolutely love them both
Ive yet to play a ratchet and clank game that i didn't love. Up your arsenal is definitely up there among my favorites in the series
Can you please do Ratchet and Clank Gladiator next? Gladiator and up your arsenal were both my favourite games of my childhood
Glad to see The Golden Bolt get a shout-out. Been watching their PS+ reviews for a long time and always felt they deserved more recognition. Good to see they are in the comments and saw your video!
This game was my childhood, so much content and replay value !
This was my first and favorite Ratchet and Clank!
Going Commando is still my fave R&C game overall, but I have to admit that the writing in Up Your Arsenal is superb. Ratchet imitating Courtney Gears still brings tears of laughter to my eyes all these years later!
The joke with Ted at the beginning was awesome! I love it so much, keep up the good work.
I remember playing all 3 of these games on the PS2 as a kid and completing them all multiple times I wish I still had them
I always find it funny how this game is actually extremely unfinished, yet it's one of the best. Gotta wonder what it would be like if they let it bake another year.
Honestly I think it's for the better. More detailed visuals in somr areas, and branching paths would be cool. But I definitely appreciate UYA for not having space and racing sections lol.
Holy crap its again, finally here. Been waiting for each r&c upload
glad you liked this game, honestly it's my favorite of the series so far (haven't gotten to play rift apart yet) i just love the story and the game play in it and i'm a big fan of captain qwark and his story arc, and i learned a bit about the development process from your background info and may have to check out golden bolt's videos as well.
keep up the awesome work sire :)
sadly there is a lack of side characters like qwark in rift apart
Glad you called out the Golden Bolt. Great channel!
This is my favorite video game of all time !! So glad to see the series alive after 20 years
The best of the entire series imo
Right up there A crack in time as not only my favorite Ratchet game, but my favorite game of all time .
Thanks for another great episode, Jirard! Such a cool completion bonus to get to play with levels and weapons that didn’t make it into the final game.
