That's the evil scheme of Insomniac games! They make their Ratchet games so addictive and fun, but then they make them JUST short enough to make us clamour for more, so we'll buy the NEXT game! It's diabolically brilliant!
the original trilogy games weren't that short, they had a solid amount of game play. Crack in Time was a decent length too, the most recent game that I can't remember the name of wasn't long enough for me though but it had the best game play of the series imho.
***** The future trilogy is a quadrilogy (people forget about Into the Nexus, which is awesome). So with the PS2 trilogy that's 7 games. Then with Size Matters, Deadlocked, and the new one, that's 10 games. heh. I was on point.

I like your points Jirard, but you are very wrong about this "Lombax racism" issue. Ratchet is believed to be the last Lombax in existence. The Ratchet & Clank Future series has stories that expand on the Lombax race and what happened to them. The reason they bring up his being a Lombax is because he is one of a kind in this story.
Aestras she's not confirmed to be a Lombax. Insomniac said she's only a similar species like a hybrid between a Lombax and another species which is why she's literally twice his height. That being said people only believe Ratchet is the last one because they're that rare. As far as I know it's implied they can't be confirmed extinct or confirmed how many of them there are left. It's implied their are others potentially out there but a handful in an entire universe means that chances are if you meet or know one not only would you assume it's the only one left but you'd also be experiencing something only like 0.00001 percent of people in the universe would see.

Ratchet and Clank is NOT a direct remake of the original. Ratchet, Quark, Drek, ext...are COMPLETELY different characters. The story and entire vibe of the game is different. The original was rated T and had many adult jokes and straight up brutal violence while this one is obviously made for kids. Dr. Nefarious isn't even in the original and the Galactic Patrol is never hinted at both of which are huge plot points in this game. Also there aren't any guns from the original title in this game they took guns from later titles. Many planets were also removed or altered greatly making this game far shorter than the original. The music is also completely changed. Overall I say the original is a better game with better Characters, Story, Music, Level Design and a more Unique feel while this one takes some improvements from later titles and incorporates those in. You compare this Game to Pixar I'd compare the original to something like a PG-13 Conker game. And I really miss Old Ratchet we don't get enough heroes like him in games, this new one is generic.
You know I played the reboot first and went back for the older ones, and the soundtrack in the new one is not bad either. I like the 2002 soundtrack better, but I can’t dog on it it sounds pretty good especially the first couple tracks in the reboot
I loved this game. As a veteran Ratchet and Clank player, it was really nice to see old levels come to live with current-gen technology. However, my ONLY gripe with this game is the fact that it seems more like a kids game. The original Ratchet and Clank had some pretty serious themes and darker tones throughout. While this game is by no means bad to me, the lighthearted story really threw me off. Even the villain didn't seem to evil to me. Even though this game is amazing by itself, I think I will always prefer the first Ratchet and Clank. It felt more mature and in a good way.
+ThePalerider12 Yeah Drek was really castrated in this game, along with the original more fleshed out development the characters had in the original game. Ratchet was honestly a selfish bastard with a adventurous heart of gold in the first game, hardly a bad person but still, and the growth he underwent with Clank throughout it was what made the foundation of the friendship the characters would later have.
+Brocktimus Prime As someone who's played since the start of the franchise, I never liked Ratchet's dickish attitude to Clank in the first game. It was inconsistent from level to level and just wasn't good story telling, IE you probably shouldn't dislike the character you're playing as. I feel like I see a lot of people defending things like this because its old and what they grew up with, rather than in an objective matter. This remake is a net gain on all fronts as far as I'm concerned, save maybe Starlene's design and the lack of that goofy easter egg.
The new game is more of a reimagining than a remake. Only about half the game is the same as the original. the ending and most of the plot is changed completely
Well yeah I know that. I was just referring to when he said that it was basically a remake and that veterans might not like the game because it's too similar. The early game is pretty similar but the ending levels are wildly different

the characters in the game go on and on about rachet being a lombax not because their trying to be racist but because rachet is the last of his kind so everyone is kinda surprised that he exists because they thought the lombaxes were extinct
He was only the last of his kind in the newer series, in the original series there was a notable Lombax character in the second game. Although the second game took place in a different galaxy from the first so... One Lombax on average per Galaxy is still freakishly, astronomically rare.

Antiform Well Nefarious became the main antagonist for the series when Quark became good so they want to start that off early which is a shame because I loved that last few scenes in Ratchet and Clank.
+Aresh Septango It's basically a reboot between both the first and second game, both telling the story of Chairman Drek, and telling the story of how Nefarious became the evil ROBOT overlord he is in the originals. We never really got to see him as a squishy, just as a robot overlord with a space butler. It's fresh paint, on a fresh canvas, giving us the same picture.
.......underrated? what the heck gives you that idea? they are some of the PlayStation icons, up their with jak and Daxter, Laura croft and so on. every PlayStation fan knows these characters and their games. and each has their own massive fanbase to take in consideration as well. trust me, these game series are far from underrated. real underrated games/series are the dark cloud (dark chronicle in the UK) series, brutal legend, blue dragon, and so on.

The characters in the game remind you often, that you are a Lombax, not because they are racists, but because Ratchet is the only Lombax left(with some exceptions here and there) But the whole Lombax thing doesnt get too important until the the first Ps3 game. Ratchet and Clank Tools of Destruction
But Is Angela really a lombax? It was never stated, apart from her being very similar to Ratchet, and having 5 fingers. The only character we know for sure is a lombax is Azimuth from ACiT.
Kibop actually a Crack in time supposedly confirms it but at the same time insomniac said once or twice she's only a similar species. Hence being twice as tall. In cannon she could very well be a hybrid between a Lombax and another species.

No, no the PS3 trilogy is absolutely horrible. It drops frames frequently and the helmets don't freaking fit Ratchet. Wtf, how the fuck did they manage that. I found that the brighter colours made the graphics of the originals games look awful.
Yeah true. I am also worried about the Crash trilogy going to be released on PS4 as the said a "Remastered" series. So if they do what they did with the Ratchet and Clank games with a PSone series, we're not going to have a good time. If they to a full re-imagining like this game it should be a lot more fun. I'm not optimistic though.

I like to consider myself a Ratchet and Clank veteran (I've been playing the games since the first and I have every single one in the series but two of them) and I genuinely loved the game (and the movie, but that's not the point here). I dunno, some others may have different opinions, but I definitely thoroughly enjoyed it.
as much as I love the ratchet and clank games I have to admit the first one doesn't hold up too well. I think of it like the first assassins creed game. definitely play it it's the start of something big but you can definitely feel that it's a little dated.
12:10 Raritanium. You could already find and collect Raritanium from the original Ratchet and Clank on PS2 back in 2002. Avatar didn't launch until 2009. Sure it was in progress already back in the 90's, but we didn't know about the Rare-Up-Tanium till the movie was released. So in conclusion, Ratchet and Clank was there first with the Raritanium! Hello, I am actually a veteran of the ratchet and clank franchise and I personally love the game and the movie it is based off of. Like you said they are definitly better if you watch the movie and play the game as it will add a lot more story to the experience. However, one thing I would like to bring up was that the galactic rangers never denied him because he was a lombax. People mention he is a lombax a lot because later on you learn that most of his species has completely vanished from the universe and that seeing a lombax is extremely rare.

+Slyron It's a bit weird, because they didn't brought that plot point up until in tools of destruction which i believe still is within the timeline of the first 3 ratchet and clank and you see 2 female lombaxes in 2 different games, Angela Cross from going commando and Sasha Phyronix from up your arsenal and Ratchet seems to have neutral reactions to them and they seem to be treated like any normal species, nor is rarity brought up. Hell I didn't even know Ratchets species name until Deadlock with hat comment about the lombax ears selling more then the Ace hardlight figures. Sasha is also apparently mentioned in tools of destruction but I missed that and maybe Angela? I guess they rebooted the game in order to transit that Ratchet is alone in the universe thing more smoothly, because they somehow forgot about it? Or maybe there going to have those 2 and make their reveals more emotional or surprising. Anyhow I kinda hope Angela does come back, she was one of my favorite characters in the series.

You'll see it in prototype designs or fantasy designs like space elevators. Generally these materials are used as stand-ins for materials that need to be developed to achieve some goal and fall between known materials and neutronium (a material made out of pure neutrons which is also a fantasy with the maximum possible mass and strength as it is essentially shaped custom atoms with no charge)
Yes he has the game, but that doesn't means he has played it. I have a lot of PS2/3 games, but I haven't played them. What I am gettting at is, even when someone has a game it doesn't means that the person has played the game.

As much as I hoped it would run at 60fps, it's pretty much confined to running at 30fps with some (but not excessive) frame drops. But yes, besides that and perhaps the overall story, this is a solid reboot.

Drew Orscheln I don’t take great issue with the voice acting itself but I despise the character animations. They’re so god damn lifeless and ironically inanimate. Characters are just staring into the nothingness when talking. How is it that a game done in the early 2000 managed to make its characters more animated and alive feeling than a game in the 2010’s is beyond me. Bad writing too. It’s a crying shame and yet so many people have fallen for this game. I’m stunned every time someone that said they’ve played the OG games that would them say that this game is acceptable and/or even better

Paul Giamatti ruined Drek, just an awful voice for that character. I have problems with this review as Jirard is a novice to the series. Ireally wanted to here about how there were planets taken out and how they lacked to compensate for that. I was let down by this game, sadly. The character development wasn't good between Ratchet and Clank, there's no conflict between them like in the first game. Ratchet acts like a kid in this and really distances me as a 20 year old hoping to relate to my childhood character. I REALLY didn't like the lack of new weapons, I believe there were just 2 (the pixelizer and the Proton drum) and even the RYNO was ripped straight from Crack in Time. I thought they'd include older, more liked weapons from the original trilogy but they chose to make this game basically just a future game with the first game's story. The game was beautiful, the story wasn't great, there were too few weapons, the game was short, and above all, the game was WAY to easy even with hard mode on and auto aim off.
I was also disappointe by the weapons. was hoping for tesla claw at least. An how awesome would it have been if there were more end game levels like Oltanis and hoven. The game was fantastic up until the first visit to quartu, from that point on the story becomes too disjointed and rushed and the levels feel "thrown in" for extra length.

They hardly even make eye contact in the game. Nobody has personality or character animation, the jokes are the scum on the bottom of the bucket tier and "le maymays xD". Ratchet is too similar to Clank in interests, when in the first game they were polar opposites. And as stated before, going into the second game, you can really see how much Ratchet matured as a character when he realized how important his actions were.

I went there but I didn't really get it. I guess it showed all kinds of stuff from the previous games but this is my first Ratchet and Clank game so I just checked every hangar out and left.
I guess they went in a new direction with it... The original Insomniac museums, notable from Rachet and Clank 2 and 3, along with Crack in Time we're always a lot of fun to unlock and to look forward to. Mostly because of what was in each one; they would include enemies without their textures, small mini games that never made the final cut, all sorts of things. Examples in each museum: In 2 and 3 of Rachet and Clank, they had an effect generator where you could make your own bullets pull off interesting colors and effects. In 2, there was a cut race track they left in the games code; you can race it, but there's no competition. In Crack in Time, there was a setup to fight and lead Argonians (Red-Warrior-Like-Alien-Race) against other Argonians and switch fighting tactics mid fight. In 3, there we're extra hacking puzzles that we're more difficult to solve, though if you beat them in the said museum, you would get a voice clip of the developers talking about the game, the development cycle and the museum. It was content like this in those museums that was always a joy to literally look forward to. While the museum in the PS4 is a little disappointing to me, it was a trip down memory lane for me and each of those pod-bay door rooms included gear from every Rachet and Clank game except for the Video Room. That just included the very first Rachet and Clank Game Commercials + All the Games Cut scenes.
I went back and watched this video again because I the game part of psplus in March. I started playing it over the past few days and I’m really enjoying it! Keep picking such great games to show case on your channel!!
It's not a reboot of the franchise, just of the first game. The game kinda "adapts it" to the rest of the franchise,because the first game is really crude and weird compared to the most recent entries
If there's one thing I will always love insomniac for, it's their innate ability to come up with the most crazy bizarre weapons in a video games. Ratchet & clank was the tip of the iceberg, when you play sunset overdrive for the first time it'll blow you away.
Veteran player of the first four games, here. I played most of Size Matters, but pretty much stopped playing for a long time. However, picked this up and LOVED it. I had a few gripes, but now I want to go back and play the old stuff again. I actually just earned my platinum trophy for this game, so I think it's safe to say I had a lot of fun :)
i still much prefer the story in the original game. it had alot more character development for both ratchet and clank along with having more planets and weapons. the level design for some planets is exactly the same while others is changes which i dont mind except for veldin because any r&c vet knows veldin is a very important planet and we have a connection to it because its our home while in the reboot its like 10 minutes long and you will never revisit it except for 1 card pack. please play the original trilogy because you will not be disappointed in them.

They left out the differences in character between Ratchet and Clank and had Drek as a villain I just could not take seriously. They really should have left the story and the amount of planets untouched.

Im a veteran and I must say, I loved this Game! They did enough changes to the story to make it a fresh experience but with an added "Oh I remember that"-Factor.
The reason that guy is so surprised that his relative really does know a Lombax is because the Lombaxes are: 1. From a different galaxy than the one you're currently in, and so aren't in that part of space much. 2. Mostly completely missing, as a war in their home galaxy ended with almost all of them vanishing into another universe using somthing called the Dimensionator, which is generally either broken or in the hands of a villain. 3. As a race, one of the most technologically advanced in the universe and the stuff of legend, even before they vanished. Also, Clank is so different from the warbots being made because there was long-range outside interference by Orvis, one of the Zoni that caused the defect in the first place. The Zoni have time-travel technology (very dangerous, overuse of such tech nearly ended the entire universe and necessitated construction of the Great Clock at the exact centre of the universe [{quietly} give or take 50 feet] to hold reality together), and are also able to freely go between universes, so it's quite subtle interference and won't be found out until much later in Clank's life, and is only discovered due to info from Orvus himself. If you want more, try completing A Crack in Time. That game's got general more, and has a pretty good completion bonus for some of its tasks. It's also got Mr Zurkon and the Groovatron, the RYNO V causes ammo crates to spawn in or respawn immediately if it runs low on ammo (not everywhere, just in places where if you don't have it they spawn/respawn once you run low on general ammo, such as inside an arena area that cannot be manually exited without failing the challenge and requires you to defeat enemies or fail the challenge in order to leave), and does not instantly win the game (there's a boss with enough HP that a full RYNO clip won't beat them unless you get really close to them before firing, and no crates can spawn in the area you fight them, and challenges where you have to use a specific weapon or have randomly switching weapons (the latter gives you weapons with full ammo every time it switches, even if the weapon selected has come up multiple times and should be out of ammo), where it isn't of help (it can't appear in the bit where you get a random weapon you own)), and as an added bonus not only does the game have a wide variety of weapons, but the basic grenade, blaster and shotgun weapons come with a wide range of parts used to change them, including 3 special mods which add different special effects to the weapon. Just remember that the game has a fourth secret difficulty, and so the first time you play the game you just need to reach the end, as you have to start a new save to change difficulty (you can keep multiple separate saves for the game at the same time, as many of them as you want), and nothing you do will carry over. Fortunately for you, the trophies for clearing the game on a given difficulty are also awarded for clearing on a higher difficulty, so you don't have to play the game on easy. Said trophies are mostly benign, because all the really annoying stuff is instead attached to the Skill Points found in-game, each of which is worth different amounts towards various bonuses.
This is not representative of the series. Please don't base your opinion of the series on this one game. Play the others. That being said, I did really enjoy this game, just not the parts directly connected to the film. I'm actually Let's Playing it at present.

As someone who played all the PS2 games as they came out, and is now playing this game, I think the game only feels thin because I'm able to run through the game really quick, knowing the methods and tricks needed to master the weapons, gadgets, and levels. The game is made with new players in mind, not as a sequel to all the other games. If you put yourself in the shoes of someone playing this game for the first time after watching the movie, you could imagine them having a great time getting to learn the janky weapons, slowly exploring the planets, and listening to every voice/NPC that comes on. For me though, I had to stop and remember to take some of the parts slow as I blazed through the levels, just to get a better appreciation for all the little things the developers put into the game. Ex: Coding dance choreography for every single creature or character in the game. Also Raritanium is not original but it by far predates Avatar :)

Not enough games these days implement cheats like games from the older era. Devs don't seem to grasp how much more replayability and fun factor cheats add to a game.
Does invincibility and infinite ammo really count as cheats that expand the game though? I like more stuff like what the Lego starwars games did. invincibility just makes a game pointless. I want something fun for a cheat. Something to change the gameplay.
Maybe infinite ammo but not invincibility. I say infinite ammo due to the fact there might have been those moments where you wana use your fave gun, but you ran out of ammo. Also the lego star wars that whus on the original XBox is love
+Waffle Wisard But those both change the gameplay when there's zero threat of death. You don't have to dodge around everything and conserve ammo, it completely changes your gameplay style. Hell, that old cheats list in GoldenEye 64, Invincibility is the hardest one to get.
+TeckGeck Yea I was really disappointed too. Kevin is soooo good, great at serious roles and comedic ones. I guess he doesn't really fit the character though with his voice. He fits better with big, burly characters.
I'm glad it was a reboot the ones after crack in time lost there way and tried to be some thing there not I mean a tower defence game but I think we can all agree most of us started with tools of destruction and went back to going commando and up your arsenal

+Carl Wagoner Sorry to say but I strongly disagree. The game only uses certain clips from the movie and a majority of the cutscenes were created specifically for the game. The movie is not only cutscenes from the game spliced together. The game just happens to utilize some scenes. Plenty of movie licensed games(especially those based on animated films) tend to use clips from their cinematic counterparts. So no, it is not the EXACT same as the game. I saw the movie first and played the game after so to me, it's not that hard to tell which scenes were taken from the film and which scenes aren't. Not saying you're an idiot or anything, it's just that this statement has been bothering me for a while and I felt like bringing up my counter-argument. One thing I will agree you on is that the game is better than the movie(but I still enjoyed the movie).
One question. Do they still have that green skinned woman outside one of the races whose breasts get larger and larger every time you jump in front of her? You know, the random silly easter egg that you-know-who had a hissy fit over? We need to know!
What is with people and liking Mr. Zerkon... I wish he had a mute button, not only that but the story feels empty and the character development more so... and the music is as bland as oat meal. Sure the graphics are good and its still fun... but the original had more to offer IMO and wasnt so easy.
missed the Insomniac Museum bit found at Veldin on start of Challenge Mode, it has unlockable hangars thats unlocked with Gold Bolts. It's not much but for a few unused game assets from the game, what was used in the original game plus a few videos including assets from the Japanese commercial and game. Plus the ending feels like it could be setting up for a squeal, not sure why though. Otherwise the original trilogy is harder to complete but fantastic to finish and/or speed run, In those is harder to obtain Gold Bolts and Skill Points to complete. Where coming from playing the games not including spin-offs, this game feels stripped away with completion bonuses, Challenge mode feeling rather shallow compared in this game. The 1st and 2nd trilogy, the 7 first games, with exception for Quest for Booty has a much more full completionist rewards, also on PS3 Remake with trophies, and the first trilogy games starting with the second game unlocks the Insomniac Museum as a reward to completing everything. For what ive played theres not many other games that reward that well for completing everything.

the original trilogy games weren't that short, they had a solid amount of game play. Crack in Time was a decent length too, the most recent game that I can't remember the name of wasn't long enough for me though but it had the best game play of the series imho.
***** The future trilogy is a quadrilogy (people forget about Into the Nexus, which is awesome). So with the PS2 trilogy that's 7 games. Then with Size Matters, Deadlocked, and the new one, that's 10 games. heh. I was on point.

I like your points Jirard, but you are very wrong about this "Lombax racism" issue. Ratchet is believed to be the last Lombax in existence. The Ratchet & Clank Future series has stories that expand on the Lombax race and what happened to them. The reason they bring up his being a Lombax is because he is one of a kind in this story.

Aestras she's not confirmed to be a Lombax. Insomniac said she's only a similar species like a hybrid between a Lombax and another species which is why she's literally twice his height. That being said people only believe Ratchet is the last one because they're that rare. As far as I know it's implied they can't be confirmed extinct or confirmed how many of them there are left. It's implied their are others potentially out there but a handful in an entire universe means that chances are if you meet or know one not only would you assume it's the only one left but you'd also be experiencing something only like 0.00001 percent of people in the universe would see.

Ratchet and Clank is NOT a direct remake of the original. Ratchet, Quark, Drek, ext...are COMPLETELY different characters. The story and entire vibe of the game is different. The original was rated T and had many adult jokes and straight up brutal violence while this one is obviously made for kids. Dr. Nefarious isn't even in the original and the Galactic Patrol is never hinted at both of which are huge plot points in this game. Also there aren't any guns from the original title in this game they took guns from later titles. Many planets were also removed or altered greatly making this game far shorter than the original. The music is also completely changed.
Overall I say the original is a better game with better Characters, Story, Music, Level Design and a more Unique feel while this one takes some improvements from later titles and incorporates those in. You compare this Game to Pixar I'd compare the original to something like a PG-13 Conker game. And I really miss Old Ratchet we don't get enough heroes like him in games, this new one is generic.

You know I played the reboot first and went back for the older ones, and the soundtrack in the new one is not bad either. I like the 2002 soundtrack better, but I can’t dog on it it sounds pretty good especially the first couple tracks in the reboot
I loved this game. As a veteran Ratchet and Clank player, it was really nice to see old levels come to live with current-gen technology.
However, my ONLY gripe with this game is the fact that it seems more like a kids game. The original Ratchet and Clank had some pretty serious themes and darker tones throughout. While this game is by no means bad to me, the lighthearted story really threw me off. Even the villain didn't seem to evil to me. Even though this game is amazing by itself, I think I will always prefer the first Ratchet and Clank. It felt more mature and in a good way.

+Brocktimus Prime As someone who's played since the start of the franchise, I never liked Ratchet's dickish attitude to Clank in the first game. It was inconsistent from level to level and just wasn't good story telling, IE you probably shouldn't dislike the character you're playing as. I feel like I see a lot of people defending things like this because its old and what they grew up with, rather than in an objective matter.
This remake is a net gain on all fronts as far as I'm concerned, save maybe Starlene's design and the lack of that goofy easter egg.
The new game is more of a reimagining than a remake. Only about half the game is the same as the original. the ending and most of the plot is changed completely

Well Nefarious became the main antagonist for the series when Quark became good so they want to start that off early which is a shame because I loved that last few scenes in Ratchet and Clank.

We never really got to see him as a squishy, just as a robot overlord with a space butler.

No, no the PS3 trilogy is absolutely horrible. It drops frames frequently and the helmets don't freaking fit Ratchet. Wtf, how the fuck did they manage that. I found that the brighter colours made the graphics of the originals games look awful.

12:10 Raritanium. You could already find and collect Raritanium from the original Ratchet and Clank on PS2 back in 2002. Avatar didn't launch until 2009. Sure it was in progress already back in the 90's, but we didn't know about the Rare-Up-Tanium till the movie was released. So in conclusion, Ratchet and Clank was there first with the Raritanium! Hello, I am actually a veteran of the ratchet and clank franchise and I personally love the game and the movie it is based off of. Like you said they are definitly better if you watch the movie and play the game as it will add a lot more story to the experience. However, one thing I would like to bring up was that the galactic rangers never denied him because he was a lombax. People mention he is a lombax a lot because later on you learn that most of his species has completely vanished from the universe and that seeing a lombax is extremely rare.

Hell I didn't even know Ratchets species name until Deadlock with hat comment about the lombax ears selling more then the Ace hardlight figures. Sasha is also apparently mentioned in tools of destruction but I missed that and maybe Angela? I guess they rebooted the game in order to transit that Ratchet is alone in the universe thing more smoothly, because they somehow forgot about it? Or maybe there going to have those 2 and make their reveals more emotional or surprising.
Anyhow I kinda hope Angela does come back, she was one of my favorite characters in the series.

As much as I hoped it would run at 60fps, it's pretty much confined to running at 30fps with some (but not excessive) frame drops. But yes, besides that and perhaps the overall story, this is a solid reboot.

Drew Orscheln I don’t take great issue with the voice acting itself but I despise the character animations. They’re so god damn lifeless and ironically inanimate. Characters are just staring into the nothingness when talking.
How is it that a game done in the early 2000 managed to make its characters more animated and alive feeling than a game in the 2010’s is beyond me. Bad writing too. It’s a crying shame and yet so many people have fallen for this game.

Paul Giamatti ruined Drek, just an awful voice for that character. I have problems with this review as Jirard is a novice to the series. Ireally wanted to here about how there were planets taken out and how they lacked to compensate for that. I was let down by this game, sadly. The character development wasn't good between Ratchet and Clank, there's no conflict between them like in the first game. Ratchet acts like a kid in this and really distances me as a 20 year old hoping to relate to my childhood character. I REALLY didn't like the lack of new weapons, I believe there were just 2 (the pixelizer and the Proton drum) and even the RYNO was ripped straight from Crack in Time. I thought they'd include older, more liked weapons from the original trilogy but they chose to make this game basically just a future game with the first game's story.
The game was beautiful, the story wasn't great, there were too few weapons, the game was short, and above all, the game was WAY to easy even with hard mode on and auto aim off.
The developer got flack for how they portrayed Ratchet in the first game and immediately changed him in the sequel.
I was also disappointe by the weapons. was hoping for tesla claw at least. An how awesome would it have been if there were more end game levels like Oltanis and hoven. The game was fantastic up until the first visit to quartu, from that point on the story becomes too disjointed and rushed and the levels feel "thrown in" for extra length.

Also, the current game gave Ratchet & Clank NO development time. They hardly even make eye contact in the game. Nobody has personality or character animation, the jokes are the scum on the bottom of the bucket tier and "le maymays xD". Ratchet is too similar to Clank in interests, when in the first game they were polar opposites. And as stated before, going into the second game, you can really see how much Ratchet matured as a character when he realized how important his actions were.

I went there but I didn't really get it. I guess it showed all kinds of stuff from the previous games but this is my first Ratchet and Clank game so I just checked every hangar out and left.
I guess they went in a new direction with it...
The original Insomniac museums, notable from Rachet and Clank 2 and 3, along with Crack in Time we're always a lot of fun to unlock and to look forward to.
Mostly because of what was in each one; they would include enemies without their textures, small mini games that never made the final cut, all sorts of things.
Examples in each museum:
In 2 and 3 of Rachet and Clank, they had an effect generator where you could make your own bullets pull off interesting colors and effects.
In 2, there was a cut race track they left in the games code; you can race it, but there's no competition.
In Crack in Time, there was a setup to fight and lead Argonians (Red-Warrior-Like-Alien-Race) against other Argonians and switch fighting tactics mid fight.
In 3, there we're extra hacking puzzles that we're more difficult to solve, though if you beat them in the said museum, you would get a voice clip of the developers talking about the game, the development cycle and the museum.
It was content like this in those museums that was always a joy to literally look forward to. While the museum in the PS4 is a little disappointing to me, it was a trip down memory lane for me and each of those pod-bay door rooms included gear from every Rachet and Clank game except for the Video Room. That just included the very first Rachet and Clank Game Commercials + All the Games Cut scenes.

Uh, what? This game is 30-35 fps at most, and even that dips in frantic areas. It most certainly is not 60.
It's fps is 30 because that's its main fps. It runs at 30 to compensate for the great graphics, it's not due to lag.

It's not a reboot of the franchise, just of the first game. The game kinda "adapts it" to the rest of the franchise,because the first game is really crude and weird compared to the most recent entries

If there's one thing I will always love insomniac for, it's their innate ability to come up with the most crazy bizarre weapons in a video games.

Veteran player of the first four games, here. I played most of Size Matters, but pretty much stopped playing for a long time. However, picked this up and LOVED it. I had a few gripes, but now I want to go back and play the old stuff again. I actually just earned my platinum trophy for this game, so I think it's safe to say I had a lot of fun :)
if Jirad gets the ratchet and clank trilogy game. Then that would be a challenge to 100% them all. especially the first one.

Speaking for the veterans, I want this game to be like the first 3 games, they are the best in the series, and yes I have played ALL of them.
i still much prefer the story in the original game. it had alot more character development for both ratchet and clank along with having more planets and weapons. the level design for some planets is exactly the same while others is changes which i dont mind except for veldin because any r&c vet knows veldin is a very important planet and we have a connection to it because its our home while in the reboot its like 10 minutes long and you will never revisit it except for 1 card pack. please play the original trilogy because you will not be disappointed in them.

They left out the differences in character between Ratchet and Clank and had Drek as a villain I just could not take seriously. They really should have left the story and the amount of planets untouched.

Im a veteran and I must say, I loved this Game! They did enough changes to the story to make it a fresh experience but with an added "Oh I remember that"-Factor.

The reason that guy is so surprised that his relative really does know a Lombax is because the Lombaxes are:
1. From a different galaxy than the one you're currently in, and so aren't in that part of space much.
2. Mostly completely missing, as a war in their home galaxy ended with almost all of them vanishing into another universe using somthing called the Dimensionator, which is generally either broken or in the hands of a villain.
3. As a race, one of the most technologically advanced in the universe and the stuff of legend, even before they vanished.
Also, Clank is so different from the warbots being made because there was long-range outside interference by Orvis, one of the Zoni that caused the defect in the first place. The Zoni have time-travel technology (very dangerous, overuse of such tech nearly ended the entire universe and necessitated construction of the Great Clock at the exact centre of the universe [{quietly} give or take 50 feet] to hold reality together), and are also able to freely go between universes, so it's quite subtle interference and won't be found out until much later in Clank's life, and is only discovered due to info from Orvus himself.
If you want more, try completing A Crack in Time. That game's got general more, and has a pretty good completion bonus for some of its tasks. It's also got Mr Zurkon and the Groovatron, the RYNO V causes ammo crates to spawn in or respawn immediately if it runs low on ammo (not everywhere, just in places where if you don't have it they spawn/respawn once you run low on general ammo, such as inside an arena area that cannot be manually exited without failing the challenge and requires you to defeat enemies or fail the challenge in order to leave), and does not instantly win the game (there's a boss with enough HP that a full RYNO clip won't beat them unless you get really close to them before firing, and no crates can spawn in the area you fight them, and challenges where you have to use a specific weapon or have randomly switching weapons (the latter gives you weapons with full ammo every time it switches, even if the weapon selected has come up multiple times and should be out of ammo), where it isn't of help (it can't appear in the bit where you get a random weapon you own)), and as an added bonus not only does the game have a wide variety of weapons, but the basic grenade, blaster and shotgun weapons come with a wide range of parts used to change them, including 3 special mods which add different special effects to the weapon. Just remember that the game has a fourth secret difficulty, and so the first time you play the game you just need to reach the end, as you have to start a new save to change difficulty (you can keep multiple separate saves for the game at the same time, as many of them as you want), and nothing you do will carry over. Fortunately for you, the trophies for clearing the game on a given difficulty are also awarded for clearing on a higher difficulty, so you don't have to play the game on easy. Said trophies are mostly benign, because all the really annoying stuff is instead attached to the Skill Points found in-game, each of which is worth different amounts towards various bonuses.
Also, Clank actually has personality in ACiT instead of being reduced to the reboot's nodding smiling lunchbox.
This is not representative of the series. Please don't base your opinion of the series on this one game. Play the others. That being said, I did really enjoy this game, just not the parts directly connected to the film. I'm actually Let's Playing it at present.

As someone who played all the PS2 games as they came out, and is now playing this game, I think the game only feels thin because I'm able to run through the game really quick, knowing the methods and tricks needed to master the weapons, gadgets, and levels.
The game is made with new players in mind, not as a sequel to all the other games.
If you put yourself in the shoes of someone playing this game for the first time after watching the movie, you could imagine them having a great time getting to learn the janky weapons, slowly exploring the planets, and listening to every voice/NPC that comes on.
For me though, I had to stop and remember to take some of the parts slow as I blazed through the levels, just to get a better appreciation for all the little things the developers put into the game. Ex: Coding dance choreography for every single creature or character in the game.
Also Raritanium is not original but it by far predates Avatar :)
Raritanium was done by Ratchet and Clank before rareobtanium by Avatar.

Not enough games these days implement cheats like games from the older era. Devs don't seem to grasp how much more replayability and fun factor cheats add to a game.

Does invincibility and infinite ammo really count as cheats that expand the game though? I like more stuff like what the Lego starwars games did. invincibility just makes a game pointless. I want something fun for a cheat. Something to change the gameplay.
Maybe infinite ammo but not invincibility. I say infinite ammo due to the fact there might have been those moments where you wana use your fave gun, but you ran out of ammo. Also the lego star wars that whus on the original XBox is love
+Waffle Wisard But those both change the gameplay when there's zero threat of death. You don't have to dodge around everything and conserve ammo, it completely changes your gameplay style. Hell, that old cheats list in GoldenEye 64, Invincibility is the hardest one to get.

Sorry to say but I strongly disagree.
The game only uses certain clips from the movie and a majority of the cutscenes were created specifically for the game.
The movie is not only cutscenes from the game spliced together. The game just happens to utilize some scenes.
Plenty of movie licensed games(especially those based on animated films) tend to use clips from their cinematic counterparts.
So no, it is not the EXACT same as the game.
I saw the movie first and played the game after so to me, it's not that hard to tell which scenes were taken from the film and which scenes aren't.
Not saying you're an idiot or anything, it's just that this statement has been bothering me for a while and I felt like bringing up my counter-argument.
One thing I will agree you on is that the game is better than the movie(but I still enjoyed the movie).

missed the Insomniac Museum bit found at Veldin on start of Challenge Mode, it has unlockable hangars thats unlocked with Gold Bolts. It's not much but for a few unused game assets from the game, what was used in the original game plus a few videos including assets from the Japanese commercial and game. Plus the ending feels like it could be setting up for a squeal, not sure why though.
Otherwise the original trilogy is harder to complete but fantastic to finish and/or speed run, In those is harder to obtain Gold Bolts and Skill Points to complete. Where coming from playing the games not including spin-offs, this game feels stripped away with completion bonuses, Challenge mode feeling rather shallow compared in this game.
The 1st and 2nd trilogy, the 7 first games, with exception for Quest for Booty has a much more full completionist rewards, also on PS3 Remake with trophies, and the first trilogy games starting with the second game unlocks the Insomniac Museum as a reward to completing everything. For what ive played theres not many other games that reward that well for completing everything.
Aaaaannnndddd the movie was a flop.
