Really glad to see you giving the love to a small game like this. I've followed these guys since their first game Pumpkin Jack and this looks like such a huge step up. As you said, it would be awesome to see it bring interest back to games like this again.
We need a last of us 2 remaster and last of us 3 first 😂 then before Jack and Daxter maybe will get a second remaster of the last of us 1 and by then will probably need a remaster of the last of us 2 again and then we’ll need another remaster of 3. But why stop there? We need to another remaster of all three of the games in one collection!
Didnt even know about this game until now. I just purchased it so thanks. Astro-Bot/Astros playroom, Spyro reignited trilogy, Sackboy a big adventure, and R&C Rift Away are some of the best experiences I've had since I bought a PS5 so Akimbot is right up my alley.
It's a fantastic game, I had a chance to stream it and the people watching were really interested in the gameplay especially a game they never heard of.
Thanks for putting me on to this! I started playing last night and the old school vibes are immaculate, just a fun game! You look at the failure of Concord from this morning and I really hope the age of live-service micro-transaction fiend games is going down the tubes to open up more opportunities for games like this!
Thanks for the video, I didn't know this game existed and I'm interested in it. I wish you spoke about its price though. I expected an indie game like this to cost $30, usd, but its up for $20 ($18 on sale) on steam. That's huge considering 15-20 hour long games sell for a full $60. Very affordable!
@@grantfiges456Buying CD keys actively harms the developer/game compared to buying it from official stores. Most keys are stolen and the developer doesn't get anything out of the sale. Doesn't matter for AAA games, but it matters a great deal for niche indie games such as this one. Consider using IsThereAnyDeal instead for discounts from official stores.
Thank you for suggesting this overlooked gem. I now currently have it wishlisted on Steam! Would be great to see a spiritual successor to Sly Cooper as well.
You should check out Hi-Fi Rush! It's more of an action rpg then action shooter but it's purely stage based with unique artstyle so it really gives that PS2 feel
Those were my exact thoughts as well when I saw this trailer, or Jak and Daxer…Hopefully this will inspire more games like this. Not all games need to be AAA to be good! 👌
It’s cool seeing indie devs make spiritual successors in a way to games we love. Considering how long it takes devs to make games now stuff like this is appreciated.
They forgot the reasons those games had charm, which was interesting level design + story and character interactions. This is just the gameplay without the soul. It looks like a tech demo foundation for what could be a Ratchet / Jak style game in the early alpha stages.
Yes, Yes, Yes! We need more videos to highlight games like this! Akimbo is made by the developers of Pumpkin Jack which is another awesome 3D Platformer I recommend everyone who liked this video go and check that out! With AAA games consistently leaving us unsatisfied, shorter, action-packed and thoughtful experiences like Akimbot and Pumpkin Jack are exactly the kind of AA games that fill my library! Quick shout out to Kena: Bridge of Spirits, another interesting AA game with little media exposure.
I've heard about this one prior to this video and it does look pretty good. I've been on a bit of a Ratchet and Clank kick lately so once I've played through all the games in the series I already own again, I think this'll satiate my needs for more of the same. I know Rift Apart did pretty well (and rightfully so) so I'm hoping we'll get another big budget Ratchet and Clank sequel in the coming years. This whole, action-centric platforming run and gun style of play is incredibly appealing to me, who grew up playing various Megaman games. Kind of a damn shame Capcom never took notes from how the Ratchet series was handled for how to move into the 3rd dimension with Megaman. The best we got was the Legends series, which is still really good don't get me wrong. But what I wouldn't give for a full on 3D Megaman game with the fluidity that the Ratchet and Clank games have in their combat.
Man the game looks awesome and I will definitely get it at some point, but that screen-tearing is near constant throughout the video. I don’t know if I could enjoy a game if I was dealing with that the whole time.
Anybody else have bad screen tearing on this game on PS5? (I can actually also see it happen in this video) Edit: There was an update there helped, but now the framerate is worse. And i saw it got another update but i haven't seen yet if that fixed the framerate.
Okay so I love the look of the game and I want more ps2 style games, but having played the demo, I need to ask: do these characters get any more interesting? Because I was enjoying the gameplay, but the “totally gruff jackass” paired up with “floating claptrap” was making it hard to want to continue.
I was really surprised with this game and how it turned out. It’s such a fun game and it definitely does take inspiration from R&C and J&D. The gameplay is simple but that’s what you need. And while I wish they added more weapons variety, the gunplay is fun… for the most part. There are some issues with aiming and hit detection which really frustrates me, where despite me aiming dead centre at the target via the lock on, somehow they don’t any damage after the first shot or two. The only major problem is the writing and Exe’s character. I don’t want to be too harsh as I know it’s an indie game, but I feel like they should’ve worked on making Exe less of an asshole. That and his relationship with Shipset is lacking in chemistry. EDIT: scratch that, there is one other major problem. The hacking puzzles. Again, don’t want to be too harsh but they could’ve come up with something more creative and varied. Overall, I’d give the game a 7.5/10
Funny thing you should mention of Exe's personality; his asshole relation with Shipset is practically identical to how Ratchet behaved with Clank in the aftermath of Captain Quark's true alignment after the Snagglebeast boss.
@@leeviheiskanen1271 probably not for a very long time. Insomniacs schedule was leaked and they have like 5 marvel games they're making next Doesn't negate the fact that we literally just got a triple A ratchet game that is probably much better than this will be
