    Guys you were so close to Hanoi's best Banh Mi, roughly 20 steps from Banh Mi 25, a little stall on the corner of the street opposite Kafa Cafe. We bought one from both places at the same time and tried half each, the corner stall was the clear the winner for us 😉

    • @borednomad
      @borednomad 4 года назад

      I agree!! I ate at Banh Mi 25 and was not that impressed, then I went to the stall Banh Mi Pate across the street and liked it so much I went back the next day. I haven’t had Banh Mi at any other places in Hanoi, so I don’t have anything to compare it to. But for me the stall across from Kafa Cafe was way better than Banh Mi 25.

  •  5 лет назад +2

    It's hard to actually pin point the best place for those dishes in your video. Some problems are the complexity of the mixture of Vietnamese foods and the preferences of different people, so you can end up favor one place to the other. There might be some places that stand out cause of different in ingredients (fresher ingredient, generation pass down recipe, introduce new or strange combination of other ingredient into the original dish).

    Oh you had Northern-style pho. It has more of a Chinese influence due to Vietnam's border with China, and all of it is prepared from the get go. Southern-style has a different flavor profile, but it's the custom-friendly version of pho with a platter of herbs and citrus on the side. There are a few places that serve Northern style in the USA, but it's mostly Southern.

    the cilantro in the fish sauce is actually similar to the dipping sauce style of the fisherman around Nha Trang - Khanh Hoa. Or on the mountain the hmong people pound that along with some other things with salt for their dipping sauce.

    Haha I am sorry you had BanhMy25, it is ok but it is nowhere near being the best or whatever other people are telling you about. It is also not that easy to pick the best place, each vendor has a different take on the same dish so rather than going to the "best" place, you should spend time trying things out at different spots and pick the best for you. But again, it is not easy either. I've been living here for 6 years and still discover new things every week. Great video tho, keep up the good work.

    Yeah, no way the banh mi is the best. For that, you'll have to head outside Hanoi and go south. :) Banh cuon and pho looks good, but in the south, you get more herbs and other stuff to accompany those dishes. I'm that person that likes more options on my food especially if it's more aromatics or fresh herbs. :)

      Taxi is always more expensive. If you take a taxi from Hanoi to Noibai, it only take 180~200k. But if it is Noibai to Hanoi, the price is up to the meter. I took a taxi from Noibai to Anduong street (near West Lake) and it was 350k. Anduong is even closer to Noibai than the Old Quarters 😅 I think I will choose Grab next time.
