    I gotta say it… The marketing of Reloop is just genius! Create a cheap little controller just to see if it sells. Then after 6 years let a famous DJ use the controller and let him make endless youtube videos of how good it is. Then when old the old stock is sold out let him make a video of things that are not so good. Then after his video wait a couple of months and release a new 4 track version of the controller with a proper power supply, XLR out, 24 bit audio, more hot cue buttons, dedicated stem buttons and a phone stand. Just brilliant. And i can’t wait for the new version. And no, i’m not hating, just hoping for new gear from Reloop!

    Luke, I barely made it through half this video... Its painful to watch to be honest. This isn't the future! Can you mix on this set up? Yes! But all your doing is holding back your dj talents using this mini controller. Is the flagship set up outrageously expensive? Yes. Its because only professionals should be using it. Your a professional!!! The CDJ's are "instruments" for djs. Thats the way you need to look at it. The better the instrument, they better you sound. If I play guitar and wanted to be a professional, I wouldn't show up to a gig with a toy guitar. I would invest in my craft and buy an expensive instrument that is going to make me look and sound the best I can. Ever hear the saying.... Put in your 10,000hrs and you are normally a pro. Well you have now taken the instruments you have been on for years, and have become an expert on after 10,000 hrs, for lessor quality to try to prove a point... For what? Who is this helping? Is this good for your fans that pay money to come see you play? NO! You have made yourself a wedding dj, instead of one of the best and creative djs in the world. I'm really perplex by this all to be honest. Ok I can understand moving to Denon which are great players, and you can pretty much do everything on them that you can do on CDJs.... But this is just silly IMO this toy controller. Carl Cox is a dj that like to stay up with technology and he dabbles with Traktor controllers along side his CDJ setup. But he is still rocking a RMX-1000 and CDJ's to do his craft. James Hype is killing it out there showing how the CDJs are truly an instrument. Go in your closet and pull out the CDJ's and stop this nonsense already. Be the professional you are, and play the instruments that make you the best DJ you can be. Don't be that artist that people go to see and they don't play there hit songs, or they want to do some kind of horrible interpretation of the song we love. Fans hate that! And while you are trying to see hot cues, and loops on your little phone, and trying to make sure you don't hit the wrong button, your head is down, not engaged with your crowd because your too busy staring at the program. That's my 2 cents. The only reason I wrote this is because Im a fan. Good luck! Hope you make the right choice and give Pioneer a call to get on the next promo video like in the past.

With that being said, I still would love to have dedicated controls for effects and stems, and tempo sliders as well. Mappings and plenty of buttons and options as to which set up of units I cared to use. Means you can play like nobody else. My plan now is to focus on making a playing my own tracks and build a catalog.
    I want to take mixing element of DJing and the decks layout and use a DJ setup like a DAW.
    I did plan on using Traktor but it’s lagging behind like a actual tractor.
    The setup would be some like
    2 x Novation Circuit Tracks, From drum machine and synths.
    2 x Laidback Loop Controllers (See what I did there)
    And a DJM 450 Mk2
    The light weight of all this makes it possible for me to travel and still be engrossed in music the way I want to play it.

    Everything you say is correct. But most of the limitations simply result from the compact design. But you know that if you want to use such a compact device. And I think that Reloop has already made very good use of the available space.
    I use the iPad for elements and functions that are not directly accessible via the Mixtour (additional cue points, effects, etc.). The ability to operate the controller with one hand, which you mentioned, also has an effect here. Of course, it's all a bit more difficult on a smartphone, as you mentioned, simply because the surface is much smaller. But as much as I love the option of using the smartphone for work, it's just too inconvenient for me. Apart from that, this should also be a thing of the past when you upgrade your iPhone, as USB C is installed from the iPhone 15 onwards and Reloop doesn't offer a corresponding cable, at least not yet.
    All in all, this leaves me with a compact setup, which is certainly not always the best choice, but I still like to use it again and again.

    Having always enjoyed the great stuff that the MK1 version allowed me to do, I've been thinking lately about getting a Native Instruments Traktor Kontrol X1 MK3. This model has plenty of controls and puts far more effort into using it as a full controller. But the lack of faders and soundcard forces you to use it either with a clubmixer or add an additional mobile device like the Kontrol Z1.

    It sounds like a major amount of the gripes comes from screen size. I know I am planning to go to iPad (Pro?) myself and have the phone as a reliable hot spot. If the adapter has multiple USBs, add my old SP1 for additional buttons. More stuff, but at least it still fits in a single travel bag with my daily laptop.

    Yeah most of these issues are around the limitations of the functions of the device and him having to contexr switch or use workarounds. Would I use this, no. Am I glad that there is a DJ who has as much experience as Luke with DJ gear pushing it to its limits and trying to update its features and problems absolutely that's a win for the DJ community.
    It doesn't matter how long this thing has been available how good it is now. What really matters is what they are doing to make this thing a better option for the future and to have another alternative out there for DJ's that can't get into the flagship gear because of

  • @nomad1517
    @nomad1517 5 месяцев назад

    Modular djing is the future. The purpose of the cdj setup is to make it easy for DJs to setup and perform at festivals. Like a vending machine for music essentially. I don't think LL is saying none of that equipment isn't helpful. But its not essential anymore. Back in the day (2000-2010) You didn't have too many options. Most of the alternatives sucked. Now, thats a different story. True, you can use a controller for Serato. But now, you can get a pair of Iloud micro monitors, a mixtour and a tablet, and bam. If you can make pro moves on it, then why spend insane amounts on unessential gear?

    Kudos for Luke for coming on and starting with cons. So many advertisers or partners would just not like that they would maybe even try to put a stop to it or try to have you do it differently hopefully he was able to do this video the way that he wanted to and by leading with the cons I think that's this partner giving him freedom.
    We respect when someone who is promoting a product is honest about the product and also showing the things that they're working to do to fix it

    Love that you are always willing to experiment with different setups. But it seems that your setup is more of a headache than just carrying a USB or even a laptop. While laptops do of course have their own issues, you can always run FX through the laptop if you don't want to have to deal with broken FX on the mixer, and in a pinch, you can easily run the entire mix through the laptop without needing to carry any additional hardware or try to mix on a tiny screen. It almost seems like more of a gimmick thank anything else.

    Hi, thanks for your videos I've been watching a lot of them over the last few months! In fact your last few have encouraged me to try out DJ Pro just on my iPad and I really like it! I've had far too much tech over the last few years and was asked last week as I was frustrated with my last purchase what's more important to me? Is it the tech or music? And for my level its the music, I really do think at times I've convinced myself the more that is spent the better it is! This of course may apply to quality but not necessarily what the product can actually do! I was going to purchase a Mixtour but shops in the UK are saying discontinued now. I'm assuming/hoping now you are working with Reloop/DJ Pro something new maybe about to be released? :)

    Laidback Luke going to see you at exchange LA in two weeks.
    I have two questions. that the Denon prime 4 has the new stem features. It is frustrating that it took them this long to incorporate the stems feature besides doing it through serato. I mentioned it before at Tomorrowland Academy that I used the stems through serato but sometimes when I would try to isolate the stems the whole song would be muted. I like the dj app software it makes the stems and beat match very simple to use. I use this app can be used in other “flagship systems”
    Lastly, what are your thoughts on a dj controller/setup standalone unit that can do stems, play through usb sticks and has a feature like the Roland dj 808 that you can make drum beats on the fly.

  • @blackoutkiller
    @blackoutkiller 8 месяцев назад

    Curious on the stems bit. Is it one of those where you manipulate the control but you still have the (as an example) highs in the acapella or did you cut out the highs and you have to bring it back? Seems like that can get real confusing real quick.
    Another example: I have the DDJ-SZ and I can change the tempo on track 1 but doesn't effect track 3 (layered). So I have to remember what track has the tempo change when I'm mixing (mashup, out of, etc.) or I can mess it all up ha.

    So James Hype, a guy that beats the piss out of gear & wonders why faders are flying off is a perfect example of why folks should transition to an antiquated controller that does a so so job at controlling this futuristic app that only caters to those residing within the Apple Bubble... I'm not sure if you're advocating for Reloop & Algoriddim or giving folks reasons to run from it.

    respect to James for the skill but no wonder DJ equipment ends up broken with guys like that using it, the flagships are built really well but slamming the volume faders and hammering the buttons the way he does is bound to break a few things.
