Just wanted to add; I think it's great that you're working and promoting this set-up. You obviously have the cash to buy a "flagship" set-up many times over, but this will allow a whole generation of aspiring dj's to get started with minimal outlay. Bravo, sir!
I absolutely love and admire how you embrace new technologies for your sets. I can relate to the "hate" you might get from the purists cause I've personally had my share of that first when I switched to CDs, and then when I started using traktor (even with vinyl timecode). It amazes me that some people still fail to understand that the gear is irrelevant at this point and what matters is that we keep the crowd happy, and the clubs packed. Thanks to you I re-discovered Denon and got myself a little Prime Go a couple of years ago. If the promoter can provide a Pioneer or a Denon set up I'll use it. If they can't I bring my traktor set up (two Kontrol D2's). And if its a small club or a smaller town where no "big" set ups are available for rent I just bring my Prime Go. And the crowd doesn't care as long as we keep delivering good music. I love to see you showcasing this newer set up too, it looks like a great option for portability and the app looks powerful too. Much love from Mexico!
I've seen Luke perform to +400 000 people on his iPhone and the ravers of Paris were having the time of their lives during Techno Parade. It was mindblowing and legendary !!!
Completely a game changer. I used to work in club scene more in the early 2010s (hiring/scouting out local talent to bring into places) - and always wanted to try djing. The pricing though (for a CDJ-mixer-CDJ) set up was too steep for me
I really think djay Pro is going to increase in use. DJing off of your phone or tablet is going to be much more common especially since the app works so well with a lot of other DJ hardware.
I love the fact that you can setup cue points on your songs through your phone, since it’s always so time consuming. It’s so convenient because next time you’re bored and waiting in line somewhere, instead of wasting time with entertainment to pass the time, you can continue to work on your craft since it’s all capable of being done at the touch of your fingertips. Glad you’re helping revolutionize this technology Laidback Luke. 🙌🏼
absolutely! As he said it - in the Pioneer universe you can now as well; with the paid system of Cloud Sync it works surprisingly well! I really love this feature! (being a Pioneer DJ now - not Reloop yet ;)) So "modern technic" yay!!!
Yes sir, thank you for highlighting that. It's been so convenient doing that and sorting tracklists as well. Not to mention putting new tracks in there, on the go, through Tidal!
@@laidbacklukeI am greatly inspired by your willingness to explore a set up that is 1st of all budget friendly, 2ndly considerably lighters which makes it easier on the set up crew 3rdly more reliable than Rekord box which I keep on hearing horror stories about, and as I am an Electronic Music Producer/DJ and a Tour Manager this makes my life much easier as a Tour Manager as the Pioneer CDJ 3000's are unreliable due to the plastic spindles supporting the Jog wheels (Good for repairs technicians, not so good for reliability) Keep it up
Basically Luke just gave a Djay pro app commercial. I approve this message because I’ve been using djay pro since the beginning. I don’t think any app can come close with mobile. Grab my 1tb iPad and that’s all I need. Make beats with my iPad and fly the beat right into the djay app and mix the beat I just made right into my mix.
I learned how to dj from this app. Before I could buy a “proper” controller this app taught me the fundamentals. And those fundamentals translated into producing. It’s so cool to me to see it being used in a festival setting. The gear is just a tool to accomplish a task. How creative you get with what you have is what will always set you apart. I believe that everything you need is within reach. You just need to look for it and know how to look differently at it.
I love this video and its thoughtful explanation, which totally matches my feelings and I'm sure many others too. Thank you to Laidback Luke for putting this out. I'm sure it'll encourage new DJs to stick with what works for them, without feeling like they gotta conform to the old school Pioneer DJM900 and CDJs. Like a lot of people, I started out DJing with just an MP3 player and Virtual DJ - CDJs and Pioneers were totally unfamiliar to me. Even though over time there was pressure to switch to CDJs, they seemed outdated. So I went with the Reloop Mixtour instead for a more modern setup. Just unplug the RCAs from the mixer and you're good to go. For anyone commenting that the Mixtour only has 2 decks - Virtual DJ has four decks on software.
I was septic and at the end of your video I'm convince you are absolutely right. No comparaison With the price of Equipment today ease and simple all in one whaow Reeloop are in the game impressive.
I LOVE the innovation and idea of this. Have been using my phone for the odd song request that I may not have, for years. BUT - I really have trouble depending on a phone or wifi connection for an entire night. Being in a major city, there's always always always, the chance of interference and signal drop. A phone with high capacity storage and tunes pre-loaded on it would work.
I would really like to see a 2023 mixtour with usbc to usbc to connect iphone or iPad, 4 more buttons for each deck so you don't have to press shift all the time and pushed rotary mixer buttons so you toggle on/off the stems. If you are not a scratch dj, iPad and a controller with audio interface is the best solution in my opinion.
I have used traktor for many years and decided to buy the traktor z1, x2 and f1 controllers, have a digital setup, then I bought the traktor s8 where it reminded me that it was going to be the future of djing, the reloop mixtour with djay pro makes me remember even that, if I were to go from one software to another I would move with djay pro, now I am more familiar and together with your video it makes me still feel on point, many colleagues tell me that they would not feel comfortable without jogwheels but if they don't try and don't leave their comfort zone they will never know, a lot of respect for you Laidback Luke I have been following you for years and you are an inspiration
I am impressed with this setup. Flexible and cheaper than traditional setups. I like you because you don't stick to a specific system but you constantly try new systems and technologies that suit you better. My opinion is that you are moving in the right direction. There will always be people who say that to be a DJ you have to play with cdjs or turntables, but they are stuck in the past. The world changes rapidly and you adapt accordingly. I always learn something new from you in each of your videos. I'm waiting for the next one! 🙂
Thank you Tonis, I really appreciate that! It just hit me at some point seeing that we do everything on our phones now. And using the phone as the brain of a setup, you could hook it onto any compatible setup you'd desire!
@@laidbacklukeLuke I think this is going on the right direction. It’s just that reloop needs to update the mixtour make it usb C bus power and Bluetooth ready. Can’t wait to see Djay pro sync playlist cross platform. Please let people know that you can plug your phone or ipad with Djay pro to CDJs as well. The whole Djay pro system is brilliantly designed. I will love to see you exploring all that in future videos!❤
This is such an excellent example that you don't need a million dollar controller or dj decks to be considered a pro level dj .. At the end of the day its all about playing good music that counts , and if your set up is as portable as this its such a great advantage...Not to long ago djs where only spinning records with no cue points ,no fx . no music selection at this level .. This would be considered a miracle not to long ago... The future looks bright for the new generation of djs and this videos is a great example of what's to come ..Great video Luke 👍
Me myself switched from Traktor to DJay Pro AI some months ago. Since it also was my back up system I also have the Mixtour for a couple of years now already, actually shortly after it was released in early 2016 always loved the vision of an ultra portable yet powerful set up. Thing is I think the Mixtour has become a little bit outdated, cause it doesn‘t portray all the new amazing possebilites the app has to offer. Most of all I’m missing ways to control FXs and the presence of performance pads. So I had high hopes that Reloop was able to provide this with the Buddy and/or the Ready. What can I say…as much as I love the layout of those controllers I was shocked what a poor sound quality these controllers have. The Mixtour still sounds powerful and awesome und comparison after all these years. No competition! Ican only hope that with you on their team now, Reloop will take a new shot on releasing an ultra portable controller for all the key features of Djay Pro AI with professional sound quality and outputs.
Great points and I value you as a long time user! I've noted these points, as I've said before I'm doing R&D for Reloop too so any suggestions feel free to hit me on the DM on IG and I'll pas it along : )
That's amazing, man! Just one thing: if you do this, it's cool, but if I do this, I'm considered an amateur. I remember back in the day when I used to play with Traktor, and everyone would laugh at me. I had to switch to CDJs forcefully, so I'm happy to see that at least someone is trying to embrace more advanced technology and appreciating it. At your level, nobody can say anything - this is your power.
@@robznarnii i would not saying that when they send you away because you are not coming there with usb!!!! and they say fuk off you are not playing with those toys! and not one place way more!!!! so i must adapt myself to play! that is why i say Laidback can i cannot because im nobody! he have this power! and i love to see him do this things!! to shut them all up!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I'm a mostly self taught DJ that took some pointers from your 'In the mind' series and fixed places I went wrong, and I've always loved your appreciation for technology. This is a cool video that even doubles as a mini tutorial. Definitely wanna check this out, at least for sake of never having to carry much when I don't have to. also "it's not about the kitchen, it's about the chef" really hits. Keep doing what you do man!
I have my Mixtur for 5 years now, when it cost 180 euros, used it with Djaypro and my Ipad when I'm like in holidays or visiting friends so I can play just with a portable speakers or in wherever system and start a party just in minutes! Also use it for tiny gigs! The build quality is superb, works perfect! I really recommend the mixtour!
I find the Z1 a bit limited: no library scrolling , poorly FX control; too much screen touching I use the Mixtour and Djay pro AI on IPad AND Samsung phone and tablet
I have been using jogless setup for a long time. Previously just using X1 and any mixer with an audio interface. And when Traktor released in iOS I used it as my backup or lightweight setup. Watching setups being used in big stages like Luke really shows there is a huge possibility that innovation like these will gain acceptance. If we give other brands or platform a try, we might find something useful.
Well it’s really good to see a well known djay using not only the Reloop kit but also and particularly djay,,,I’ve been using it since it came out ,,,just retired my 8 year old Reloop beat pad 2,and managed to get a total bargain on the Reloop mixon 4 which is the upgrade to the beatpad2 ,,,,,yes in fact I used djay without a controller for around 3 years and was totally able to use it at parties and the occasional gig,,,,,,anyway for anyone who’s interested ,djay has actually taught me how to mix ,especiall as I’ve used it everywhere from at home but also travelling train, plane and coach have all been used with a pair of headphones and internet connection and just diving in and not worrying what it sounds like so that when I do a proper play out I’ve learnt techniques that can be used whilst totally love ,, intakes aswell lol,
Hi, I use the Mixtour together with my iPad as a backup system for 4 years now. Works great and has never let me down! I programmed the fx knob to be my tempo of the track....
Just bought a second-hand S8.....if NI hadn't lost its marbles big time, I would have bought it new. Great video BTW. I think of adding a Reloop deck, Traktor control vinyl and a set of butter rugs to the party. Of course, Serato butterrrugs to confuse the opposition. And one question, in time of digital DJing what is the benefit of dialing in the BPM with a knob, instead of using the dreaded sync button if you can read the bpm of both tracks? Would go for the Luke setup if I would acknowledge Apple as a brand.
The type of DJ you are can define the tools you need and what you don't need. Like a tradesperson, you only take the tools you need and tools you don't need you can leave them behind. That way you can travel lighter and still get the job done. As they say 'Horses for courses'. 😀
Luke, thank you for taking the time to share this content with us. I tried this setup a long time ago when Spotify was a cloud music option inside the djay app, it was the greatest solution around, there was no need to carry any music at all! When Spotify was no longer an option I stopped using it. The app has potential but it also has some drawbacks, you won't have any luck playing anything if you have events where cell phone signal or wifi are an issue (venues made of metal or concrete, ranch homes, huge events in a dessert, just to name a few real world examples). The only way I see myself using this setup again is if I can plug in my external 4TB drive filled with music. The app requires an internet connection otherwise it's completely useless!
9 years ago, I bought my first DJ controller: a small Hercules DJ Control Instinct. It had only the bare necessities, which are extremely similar to what you have here plus two tiny platters. This video demonstrates perfectly the big problem with this controller, that ultimately pushed me to something larger: You don't have enough buttons. every control on your deck has 2, 3, maybe even 4 different functions depending on which other modulator button you press or hold. I could never get used to this, it held me back immensely. It prevented me from doing tight tricks that required access to both Hot Cues and Loop Buttons. It meant I couldn't use the gain knob as I had to remap it to a pitchbend. Half of my EQ was remapped to other functions. It was a wonderful device to get started in the art of DJing, and to fire up a hunger for more, but I could never do any more complex things with it. To this day, my Pioneer SB2, a controller with 4 virtual decks and only 2 channels, holds me back significantly because of the hindered access to the faders on the secondary decks, so I simply do not use them. If you can manage to maintain the same complexity and quality of your unscripted livesets, you have my highest respect. Though I find it hard to believe anyone could reduce their control interface to such a tiny fraction without simplifying their mixing style. I see the benefits of having the DJ software on your phone instead of a laptop or the deck itself, but I don't see the broader scene moving to controllers that are THIS simply anytime soon.
Oh, and considering the price: For that money, I'd rather get a Traktor Kontrol S3 or Numark NS4FX. While I don't know how well / if they work with phones, they're not much more expensive while offering two platters, 4 mixing channels and a LOAD more buttons, while not being super large either. Seems a much better investment to me.
Richie Hawtin was doing the DJing off iPad with Traktor a few years back too. Now he uses them a bunch in tandem with laptops and other analog stuff (depending if he's doing Plastikman or not)
What holts the progression in moving into new gear. Is (at least in my mind) a concept called social idealisms. Social idealism's according to Dr John Demartini are injected values from the external world. E.g. 'Real DJ's should use vinyl' 'You shouldn't use sync'. You can typically identify social ideals when people: Use imperative language such as; should, have too, need too, ought too. The response to these statements is according to who? And obviously use what you love to use. We perform to entertain the audience, no appease others DJ's gear demands. This is why I love your videos Luke. Your always a step ahead using what you love.
Good that you mentioned Traktor. Even before I owned Serato, and once mp3s became a viable DJ format, I was using Traktor with a similar controller from M-Audio. So that idea is old. It worked but the hands on jog/turntable control was a sacrifice. Like you said, you can't exactly scratch with that and I remember thinking, touch screen control would be a potential solution. The new idea here is the phone and what DJAY app unlocks! It has a capability of doing DVS. The AI stems stuff is a game changer. And the mobile preparation use case is HUGE. I am not a professional DJ, which means I spend my hours sitting at a computer doing a job - away from my DJ gear. Even just being able to listen to the exact same library that I use to DJ would be good, without needing to sync anything. You definitely got me thinking..
I've played on Reloop Contour(interface edition) until i've messed up with AC adapter and plugged it in 12v one instead of 6v. Then i moved to ZOMO MC1000 (production date is 2011, bought new never opened for 99 euro in 2016) and it fit all of my needs, of course all of mine tracks is perfectly warped and i've set all the needed cue points in Traktor, i do not need a pitch fader and jogs for many years, All i need is 2/4 channel mixer. So, Reloop has been made the solid stuff before. Still waiting for Contour successor :) Couple weeks ago i've played on the CDJs first time in 10+ years, it was kinda scary bc i never touched rekordbox-based Pio players, the only thing i found missing is large laptop screen for better tracks search. So, hardware price doesn't matter anything, everything is rely only on your music taste and creativity.
Seems like this is where the industry will go eventually and it's really a reduction in the barrier to entry as well but as a beginner it seems like a steep learning curve so I'll wait on it.But thanks for sharing! Truly interesting.
I'm using an AKAI AMX with a small laptop... first I missed some kind of platters, coming from vinyl... but now it's the ultimate portable setup... the AMX even has EQ touch knobs to program many functions when in touch mode...
@LL 1) yes, keep the intro! 2) if programming a few buttons blows your mind, you should take a look at what guys like Ean Golden were doing with Traktor back in the day… 3) the best chef can make an awesome and tasty meal with a scout knife, a wooden spoon and a dirty kitchen… dJay pro has some serious chops.
That lighting cable is the hardest thing in the world to find if you lose it you are screamed. I misplaced mine years ago but found it a year later. Now my mixtour just sits in the drawer was hoping relook make a mixtour 2 but never did bummer!
@@Cactusman1960 naw doesn’t work like that. Trust I tried all the connects. You want it to be perfect gotta have that 8 pin cord which is short as hell and reloop didn’t think to sell them solo or even make them longer I don’t know who drop the ball on that but they did
I've seen your set from Tomorrowland Winter. I think this setup could be a gamechanger. I was verry, verry sceptic about this "simple" setup, but WHOW! real nice! The only thing is, that I would miss a couple of direct buttons. The Filter an EQ, are the same knobs in another combination. I like to have it as different knobs. and I think, I would use it with a bigger tablet in place of my phone. In my small studio, I've got a pair of Turntables from Reloop, (RP7000 & RP7000MK2) I like them very much. I don't want to change them for SL1200's. Reloop is not the cheap version of a "OEM Technics".
I kinda do something similar. I always have Algoriddim's Djay app on my phone because when I get random ideas, it allow me to pull from Beatport and try them out roughly with the touchscreen and hear how it sounds. Then I like to use Lexicon to convert cues and whatnot between platforms so that I don't have to redo everything on preparation sessions. It also allow me to have a good app that is already setup with my credentials that I can just plug people's setup in if I'm requested to punch in a set on a whim. Otherwise, I still like to use my Denon Prime 4 on more "normal" times. It's a all-in-one device that has all my stuff + Beatport streaming and I don't need to carry my phone or my laptop with it. It kind of saved me for the two gigs I did where I wasn't allowed to have my phone (or cameras rather) there.
THIS IS AWESOME! Thanks so much for sharing your setup, I been playing on djay pro AI for a few years now and I really like the idea of holding shift and pitching up and down with cue/play. Would love to see something like watching you talk through a set as you do it. Thanks for all you do.
Really respect how you try and push forward the industry Luke! I found a good deal on the Mixtour and picked one up as a secondary controller to use with djay on my phone for on the go/impromptu things. I really love my SC Live 4 and don't think it can replace that for me, but I originally dismissed mobile DJing as a toy but you've really shown me how I was wrong. With regards to 'the future of DJing' as I've heard you and others mention, at least in my opinion (although that's probably worth very little) there is a place for both standalone units and controllers for smartphones. For someone starting out, a mobile setup makes complete sense as smartphones do more and more of what we used to use computers for (the market segment is where the FLX4 currently sits), but for someone getting more serious a standalone would make more sense (in the market segments the FLX6/10 currently target). In my opinion, a phone is too much of a "do-everything" device for me to trust using it for gigs (the amount of time it's exposed to breakage is far higher than even a laptop) but I think an iPad is a good compromise here - useful for enough other things that people still have them lying around but without the previously mentioned downsides of a smartphones. As someone DJing in a student town, I can definitely say people having an iPad wouldn't be uncommon based on what I see in my classes. If you're getting seriously into DJing, what I've found owning the SC Live 4 after a few controllers is that you can't beat the convenience and dependability of a standalone when compared to using a laptop - no Windows/macOS updates to break things, no software used for school/day jobs to mess things up and a lot more. And if someone spills a vodka cran in the booth you only break one $2000 toy instead of two of them. A lot of the benefits of the mobile setup are what drew me to a standalone in the first place - glad to see you're promoting things which make it easier for the next generation of talent to get started!
A good case to cover the screen of the phone and its good. Phones always get newer chips every year, where stand alones don't, that's why denon had to bring a new prime 4 plus to play stems. Also phones are the most convenient form factor. Handy to play on an ipad sure. But a mixtour is a good interface for a phone. Best to try it all really!
I'm a mobile did and this would make an excellent back up system. I don't know if I could make it my main system LOL. But it looks amazing. Thank you for sharing this with us Luke!
Already loving Djay pro. Nice to see, that it’s always about ‘the cook’ not about the kitchen, although I surely will miss platters to scratch, so I bring my reloop beatpad 2, which is a simular setup like in this video, only with platters😉. Love your video’s. Keep it up!
The Hardware is not the problem the Mixtour Pro looks like a great little portable controller. its the software that's stopping me from getting the Mixtour Pro. Djay Pro is missing Neural Mix & Crossfader Fusion options on Windows & Android it seems this is designed for Mac and iPad and Windows & Android versions of Djay Pro have been left lagging behind.
Way to innovate and stay true to yourself, Luke. I have one question, and it’s about sound quality. How does the Mixtour DAC stack-up to the CDJ or DJM DACs? Surely there’s an audible difference on a large system.
I like the intro. It's very personal and personable. I think this setup is really cool. I'd absolutely love to play around with it. I think the whole micro mobile DJ concept is very fun and having this or something similar would be very fun. I also like the looks of the Mixstream Pro Go, the DJControl Starlight and other super-compact options. I love my Prime 4 and I'm drooling over the Rane Four but miniaturization will never not be awesome.
It’s definitely cool to see something new. I’m considering this setup for taking to smaller gigs where my denon cdjs would be overkill. Or maybe to use as a backup. I definitely would not want to use this in the club though, it would feel too cramped and confusing having so many things mapped to a handful of buttons.
I have been playing dj sets on a spinning bike over ten years on a first generation iPad and DJplayer pro app. Does all the same and better and chaper. Nice set up that one too.
Thank you, LBL for the channel and all you do for dance music/producers/dj's. One thing that stands out to me the most in this video is that not only are you showing that the system can be more simplified and compact yet powerful but the other point you're making is that the barrier to entry is becoming lower and lower and almost non-existent. I used to want to buy CDJs but realized I would probably never get that much money unless I hit the lotto. I was always set on a Traktor or a Pioneer controller but now I can just use my phone and a mixer. That's incredible. Where do you think DJ Software/Music Streaming will go? I have Apple Music. I see you can use Tidal but don't want to switch streaming services. Do you think apple may collab with or buy a DJ software company or perhaps create their own at some point? I know they are in the production space with Logic and GarageBand but would love to see them offering DJ software or at least their music streaming to a DJ company.
Nice work. I have the Traktor equivalents but they don't have all the features in one unit. Still use a DDJ1000 w Rekordbox but I'm using sync out of laziness and just like the ability to pay attention to other attributes... Blending, effects and other overlays. Glad to see sync based options being supported by the pros. Cheers
But luke……you know you are the only guy on earth to pull this off and still look cool…..i mean if i see myself playing with that setup I wouldn’t be a fan of myself anymore😂😂🫡
Kudos for this approach Luke. I can imagine playing techno on this as transitions are longer, you have time to play with the device a bit. But mixing edm on this is higher level as I guess you need to do everything faster. Video got me thinking a lot, yet i know there are folks who reject this way of djing right away. Very interesting topic indeed....
Happy you find it interesting and have an open mind for this. Both mixing 4 decks of Techno or EDM (which I do for a living right?) is easier on this setup.
Have you taken a look at the Xone k2? It is a similar device but with 4 faders and many more programmable buttons via MIDI to play 4 channels more comfortably. In addition, since it is from the Allen&Heath brand, if a club has the xone 96 or 92, with a single cable you can have its 4 channels and EQs and the k2 only to control the playback of the tracks. I have seen that many people use it together with traktor, I wonder if it could also be used with a mobile set
Totally agree! I was delighted when I bought my Xone K2, like 12 years ago and discovered how minimal a setup like this can be. Now, this trend is back.
Bought a mixtour on the strength of your previous teaser vids. Thanks for showing how you have programmed the midi on the mixtour - I’ll be making those immediately. (I didn’t think to add nudge functionality like you have , I was going to use pads on my sp404.. DOH!!!) Brilliant video Keep the intro too ;)
yess love the original intro! The techno djs are SMART they saw what they could do with the technology and did it and didnt care what people thought. It gave them the ability to do amazing things with 4 tracks. I can see a lot of similarities with your mobile setup. Reloop should sell a "laidback luke" model with your custom knobs as a way to generate more collaborative revenue. I do think we spend too much time on our phones and this setup is kinda backwards in that thats the only flaw I see in it. I dont want to do EVERYTHING on my phone.
I have started using an Akai AMX that I found used for $40 and was amazed how quickly I stopped missing the features of my larger controllers. It doesn't have cue points like the newer Mixtour but my laptop has a touch screen and I am currently programing a cheap midi controller to handle that. One advantage of the AMX that I hope they add to a version of the Mixtour is RCA inputs for running DVS when I do want decks (though now with HID over USB that isn't a must). Anyway, thanks for bringing attention to these small mixers. The phone connectivity has some advantages I wouldn't have thought of. I may have to look into a Mixtour if for nothing else than to have a powerful and intuitive backup system.
Loving this set up. I've carried viny to a cd wallet then to usb and couldn't care less about what system I'm using as long as it is fun. I did not know you could use Tidal so I'll be definitely jumping on board the phone train.
Having modular, configurable gear has long been the way forward. Portability and flexibility with a low cost of entry. I still have a traktor setup X1s, Z1,F1. I paired that with some Denon sc2000 jog controllers. Something that only Denon have produced. Themodern equivalent is an lc6000. I could mix and match the setup. I could go to just an X1 and Z1 or go full setup. Nice to see other DJ software that is almost fully configurable these days, which is what I loved about traktor. For a while I even included an iPad with midi control surface configure my own special effect macros. Only downside at the time was it still needed a laptop.
This is pretty awesome, I was conditioned to want a big dj rig because it looks "cool", But I have all my music in my phone. With everything accessible from there, it makes sense to do it from there! Thanks for this video. Props for chasing new things!
I used a similar set up a couple years ago. It ruined my career literally. I was laughed at and never booked again. Good to see you supporting it. Can you help me get my career started again? 😊
I don't really spin techno or trance all the time but this is a sweet set up!!! I got to look into getting my hands on that controller. I actually used another Reloop controller that a step above that one callled the Reloop Ready. These controller worked the same as flagship controllers. Saved me from very last minute gigs and traveling with bulky equipment.
Wow! I remember that controller! I still want it. it's as mobile as it gets! I love my Prime Go and Roland 707m for some of the same reasons you are using this setup but I still have platters. Great video
What's happening luke? Of course, i like what you are doing and THANK YOU! For sharing your innovation with the rest of us. Change is inevitable people ; as Luke is demonstrating here. Like it or not we either adapt or stay behind. Cell phone DJ ing is an interesting concept and it simplifies our job as DJ's ; as a demonstrated by luke. Thanks brother Luke and keep on Rocking !!!!
Thank you Samuel! Yes, if anything, this is my journey and I love showing what's possible. Meanwhile in real life, we drive and we stream music from our phones like it's no problem. That while the GPS is running on our phone too. Quick answering emails here and there. Why not DJing right? I don't know anyone who has a CD player in their car still ha ha. Yes here we are in DJ land admiring the CDJs still. It's wild to me.
I've actually looked for a more portable setup myself. But personally I still want to have tempo sliders and decks to control the music. Also having a more buttons for more functions are a need for me. My personal dream setup would be a minisized 2 deck 4 mixer channel controller with all the functions of full sized setup but in a small cramped layout. As far as I know this doesn't exist atm apart from some parts of it in low quality low end controllers. The bad quality of the knobs etc in smalled low end controllers and lack of XLR output are a something that I couldn't have if I wanted to use a setup for anything more than home use or with friends in a casual setting. Currently my personal setup is full sized Denon mixer and decks with Serato but since I don't bring them to every gig I play I end up playing on Pioneer CDJs quite often.
Hi Luke, I like that you embrace new tech. I wish the dj hardware developers would make something to help the dj focus on something real important: having the dj focus on good music selection. I really wish i could help design a new mixer. For example if Reloop made a lock-in-place or made a "T-shape" mixer, that had a physical keyboard-(with an added scroll knob). Meaning, put a keyboard on the top of the Reloop MixTour mixer, so a dj could type & scroll quickly. Would be less misstypings (like on the iphone) and forget typing on a phone's touchscreen if your hands are sweaty. This would increase music searching & selecting by a whole bunch. Still could have a cable that attaches to your phone like in your setup. Then ..i would leave the big laptop at home. 👍 -MIKE BEATS
Algorithm DJay is Awesome! I especially like using it on iPad with other AUv3 apps! They run natively inside Djay pro as well! So a setup like this would not only be more convenient, and portable, especially with stem separation and a few other plugins for production (especially on iPad) it could be super powerful for producing as well!
Laidback Luke was an early adopter of the CDJs while many other DJ's criticized him for 'not being a real DJ'... Now they're the industry standard for 2 decades or so. Imagine if this becomes the industry standard haha. Personally I would much rather perform on the CDJ's as they give you a lot more functionality but I'm genuinely enjoying watching him push the boundaries here!
U forgot to tell if you bring some kind of backup if this fail on you. A spare phone or a USB stick. What if u lose your phone or someone steal it? I really like this kind of setup. I use a Denon GO myself for traveling-gigs.
I’m sold on the Mixtour or something similar, but I can’t commit to a subscription service like DJay or only a phone. Mixtour plus a laptop or iPad and different software seems like a good mobile setup.
Hey Luke, thanks for making me aware of the Reloop products. I'm currently also in Japan (bought tickets to your Tokyo show @ WARP but other stuff came up unfortunately) and I've been renting studio time on CDJ's while here, but your other video where you talked about switching inspired me to go and check out portable setups. After trying out a few different small ones (Pioneer DDJ400, Denon Prime GO, Numark, etc) I settled on the Reloop Ready, which works with Serato. It's tiny size takes some getting used to but it's so convenient being able to fit the tiny but powerful DJ controller into my laptop bag and create a mix anywhere I go. I still need Serato & Beatport streaming so haven't switched away from the laptop yet, but I can't wait to see improvements in portable setups over the next few years. A question I had from this video was when you're using the EQ knobs for stems, what if you also want to EQ at the same time? I like how Serato/Reloop Ready has dedicated pads for stems, although Serato also recently removed Stem support from Tidal streaming.
@@vegandadbod7157 Not yet, just for practice mixes so far. I plan to take it into a studio later this week to see how it sounds there. I'll also give it a go through a club system during sound test in 2 weeks.
Hats off for dropping this content. It is refreshing to hear someone so prolific to talk about this and to be using it at the level you do. It is a totally legit setup and I have been using the djay Pro for a long time and when it updated to the djay Pro AI it got even better. I have used the app with a Numark DJ2GO 2 loads of times and it is smooth and great to use. I also have a Prime 4 and would be happy to play out on either set up. Keep up the good work ✨💪✨
Just wanted to add; I think it's great that you're working and promoting this set-up.
It's not the gear... it's the person. Your average DJ isn't going to get away with doing this.
@@djelevateusa1714practice makes perfect, and it's worth it!
@@djelevateusa1714 and why not? If they have the skills, they certainly can perform well on it. It’s a craft!
The intro should 100% stay! I have always loved it! Its part of your signature
100% agree. Especially the Dedicated Dad
Agree!!! Best into in the bizz
As a kid growing up I always wanted to start Djing but never could afford the equipment. Stuff like this is a game changer!
Completely a game changer. I used to work in club scene more in the early 2010s (hiring/scouting out local talent to bring into places) - and always wanted to try djing. The pricing though (for a CDJ-mixer-CDJ) set up was too steep for me
You guys can still do it now. I’m going to by myself a dj controller this year and get started
I really think djay Pro is going to increase in use. DJing off of your phone or tablet is going to be much more common especially since the app works so well with a lot of other DJ hardware.
Yes sir! I don't foresee many pro DJs adapting, but the DJs coming up now will settle into this for sure. It's inevitable.
I used it on a tablet and it works like money! Highly recommend it if you want to have a minimal console and create a set on a plane trip, you can!
I love that "dedicated dad" thing. Your kid has to be sooo proud!
Hey@@laidbackluke do you think Reloop is going to release an updated version of the Mixtour anytime soon? :)
@@dizco4lifeyes! Watch this space, he said
That's amazing, man! At your level, nobody can say anything - this is your power.
you are worying to much about peoples opinions

Yay! He's using the Reloop Mixtour!
Thank you so much! So happy to read this. Yeah carrying this around has been super easy!
Thank you so much …. Been waiting for this a long time … I thought native will do this … amazing
I used the Traktor Z1 for a while with the Traktor DJ iPhone app. It was solid. I had a lot of fun with it.
I find the Z1 a bit limited: no library scrolling , poorly FX control; too much screen touching
I use the Mixtour and Djay pro AI on IPad AND Samsung phone and tablet
I've been following Laidback Luke in and out for years and if this guy says something is good it's good.
Man I miss Spotify being a cloud option! SoundCloud is an option as well.
Love hearing the old intro and ending, also a super cool and innovative setup, thanks for sharing!
Now he uses them a bunch in tandem with laptops and other analog stuff (depending if he's doing Plastikman or not)
Thanks for bringing the classic intro and outro to your vlogs :D Please keep it
What holts the progression in moving into new gear.
Well you’ve convinced & inspired me Luke! Just purchased the Mixtour & the software. Looking forward to learning. Thank you
Good that you mentioned Traktor.
@LL
1) yes, keep the intro!
2) if programming a few buttons blows your mind, you should take a look at what guys like Ean Golden were doing with Traktor back in the day…
3) the best chef can make an awesome and tasty meal with a scout knife, a wooden spoon and a dirty kitchen…
dJay pro has some serious chops.
I looked at that years ago and liked it. Besides scratching I don’t need platters. However I need more that 4 cue points.
this is very interesting , thank you
Many THANKS for these explanations ! MIXTOUR is such a BEAST under a shy look !
That lighting cable is the hardest thing in the world to find if you lose it you are screamed. I misplaced mine years ago but found it a year later. Now my mixtour just sits in the drawer was hoping relook make a mixtour 2 but never did bummer!
You can still use a USB- to USB- B cable eith a camera connection adapter to.Ipad
I love this! I’ve been waiting for someone to push the boundaries. Keep these videos coming. So interesting.
Wow, an amzing setup. Well, if it fits your style than why not. Thank you Luke for always sharing.
Love the small setup. Can’t help thinking about a four channel mixtour though, would love something like that.
So happy to read this! I'm very thankful that the controllers are customizable. Try that on a "Flagship" system ha ha.
Love this app! It's how I started learning like way back in 2018/19, back when you could stream Spotify on it. It's great!
Good point.
So great to see those old intro & outro! Please keep on doing them
Thank you, LBL for the channel and all you do for dance music/producers/dj's.
Been rocking this set up with a ddj200 & an akai pad controller for 3&4 decks & knob control for both decks
Yesssss the old intro is awesome!
@@laidbacklukeHi Luke, plz show us how to mix 4 decks with this setup! Can’t wait
DOH!!!)
Brilliant video
Keep the intro too ;)
SP404 is fast becoming my favorite passtime. My S8 bu NI has midi.....synching both would be cool.
Reminds me of my Hercules + Tab setup. 🔥
yess love the original intro!
Intro is nice and i really appreciate your demeanor!
This is pretty awesome, I was conditioned to want a big dj rig because it looks "cool",
But I have all my music in my phone. With everything accessible from there, it makes sense to do it from there!
Thanks for this video. Props for chasing new things!
Luke to the highest bidder
Great video
Mindblowing Luke keep up the good work
What's happening luke? Of course, i like what you are doing and THANK YOU! For sharing your innovation with the rest of us. Change is inevitable people ; as Luke is demonstrating here. Like it or not we either adapt or stay behind. Cell phone DJ ing is an interesting concept and it simplifies our job as DJ's ; as a demonstrated by luke. Thanks brother Luke and keep on Rocking !!!!
They are! I use my Samsung S5 to S22 and Samsung Galaxy tablet with Djay for years with the Mixtour since it came on the market !!
Love reading this, I do apologize for being so far behind but spreading the word now!@@Cactusman1960
The great laid back Luke has a mobile set up? Like wedding bbq and quincenera mobile?
DJ DARQNYT3, DJ, Producer, Wing Chun Enthusiast, Best Granddad Ever! Yea, keep the intro Luke!!!
Native Instruments Traktor has been doing this for a long time on IOS.. It really is nice to have..
Omg the pic with deadmau5 and Steve lmaooo 😂

Hi Luke,
I like that you embrace new tech.

Really cool set up option with obvious advantages but still prefer using some type of physical platter with pitch control fader.
Love that the old intro is back!
Truly missed that intro Luke!
Did you ever use the Ready in a club? Or only for preparation or practice? I‘m asking because I think it has a very poor audio quality.
@@vegandadbod7157 Not yet, just for practice mixes so far. I plan to take it into a studio later this week to see how it sounds there. I'll also give it a go through a club system during sound test in 2 weeks.
Love the way you explain everything so clear, love the content!
