When you only became famous through talent
great comment might use this on every video lol
Doubleplusgood
And fineness
Absolutely!
Killer version. Paul is just a brilliant musician and a songwriter. Kudos to the rest of the band.
Most underrated band of the 80s. They were just so great
Were they underrated ?
Absolutely agree with you. !!!
I'll never forgive Weller for breaking up The Jam but before that, I'll never forgive Weller's aul lad for dumping The Vapours to promote The Jam.
Turning Japanese has got to be one of the greatest New Wave songs of the 80's.
I loved the way Talbot would bash the hell out of his keyboard/ piano keys- he must've gone through a few over the years.
I too found the Jam's demise hard to live with but Style Council got me through the mid 80's just fine.
enough with that tired "underrated" comment - can't you think of anything original to say?
Amazes me how relevant his lyrics are today just as they were back in the day, even all the way back to The Jam.
Too true. If you don't learn from your past you just repeat history. When will people learn?
@craven Dave Well you can fool some of the people some of the time, but not all of the time!
Thick as Thieves could be the theme song of a Trump docudrama, with all the shady characters in his orbit.
Yep amazing!... if anything this band knows how to tap into the timelessness of ebbing democracy and a nice pair of white strides.
@@boyonthephone1 sadly never we already have seen in this late year and a half
One of the very best performances of Live Aid. Timeless.
this is a fantastic version of the song live
The best 🎉❤
This was a spectacular event at the time but as the years pass, it is all the greater for the fact there will never be another concert as fabulous as this.
We all sat in front of the TV for 24hrs .. this was an all day affair with tops bands and the charity which was so evident at the time and still is. Saw The Jam at Queen`s Hall, Leeds with my best friends at the time. I think this was the time when we got locked out of the car park and had to make our way home 40 miles away. What a night in more ways than one!
Idealists have a chance to make a difference. Bob Geldof proved it!
@@ericgermundson3368 Most of the money raised ended up in the pockets of tyrants and bankers. Same with the 'Pandemic' and Ukraine. And you and I are now paying for it. Our politicians are nothing but middle-men.
Dee Cee ‘s voice is wonderful !
It is beautiful ❤❤
became Mrs Paul Weller and later ex Mrs Weller ....
And her dancing, awesome
Britain's best lyricist and songsmith ....EVER !
Well he should be but I dont think that the ones higher up would agree
Britain's best lyricist and songsmith? Paul Weller's brilliant, but that accolade goes to Ian Dury for me. Wonderful rhymes, a huge and esoteric vocabulary, splendidly rude at times. Side-splittingly funny or deadly serious, sometimes weird, sometimes silly. But always clever. He seemed like Britain's unofficial poet laureate for a time. All delivered in that gruff Cockney non-singing singing voice. But again for some excellent socially aware lyrics, it's hard to beat PW.
@@robkcorbett Yeah, also great. And let's not forget a 20 something Johnny Rotten! Let's vote yes for all of ém
That song was played at a frantic pace - love it.
LoL The speed of light 😃
Kiddy on the tambourine having the time of his life. I hope he's had a good life and has fond memories of the day.
Think that was a very young Alan White - brother to Steve the drummer. Would have been about 16?
Went on to play drums for Oasis.. I think..
@@nchcroy3877 You're correct.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_White_(Oasis_drummer)
My favourite SC song… this great rendition packs a powerful emotional punch! ❤
Weller is one of the greatest live performers of our lifetime
Such a great song, totally underrated
Im glad you feel the same way i do about this epic song!
Underrated cause it sucked
@@IIIlllBravo Paul Weller created The Jam remember. In this era he was in his prime.
Agree it is great. Not heard enough.
Totally agree. Paul Weller, the Jam and the Style Council. THis tune rocks
What a great great artist...
A top class visual entertainer..
And a absolute genius....
And this possibly his best performance and song..
I recently found an old CD of The Style Council in a drawer with 40 of their songs on it , and listening to it now, I can't believe I paid them so little attention at the time. One great track after another, and such a diverse range of musical styles. They really were terrific and hugely underrated
Underrated performance.
Nearly 36 years later, I have seen this for the first time. While Queen, rightly, took the plaudits for the best performance, But Style Council slammed dunked this to perfection. For the record, their setlist was Your The Best Thing; The Big Boss Groove; Internationalists and, of course, Walls Come Tumbling Down. There is a RUclips vid of them singing Your The Best Thing and Big Boss Groove (search for The Style Council - Unreleased Performance (Live Aid). Enjoy!!
Thanks just discovered them.
L
Paul is a legend - still going strong and producing great music 36 years later.
Jeez, D.C.Lee was fit! This is a storming performance too.
Agree
I think that one could see that why Weller had the hots for her:-)
and a way better dancer than Paul
The modfather never gives anything but an outstanding performance paul Weller the king of cool
And the king of white denim...
Ha spot on
What a performance. Had no idea they were this good and raw, live. Need to watch their whole performance now.
They are so good singing together. Perfect even.
Dee C Lee was a former Wham! backing singer along with Shirley Holliman. She's a wonderful singer.
And wife of Paul...
Funny how you rediscover some songs after over 30 years. Now I can't stop watching.
If Santana-Shrieve-Soul Sacrifice was the symbol-icon of Woodstock, for me, The Style Council were for the Live-Aid. Best performance.
When Paul sang: You don’t have to take this crap - it captured the zeitgeist perfectly. Just a shame we still haven’t realised “the class war’s real not mythologised”. P.S. I loved Dee’s outfit and hairstyle here and, as a Uni student in the mid 80’s, I often dressed this way. It was such an easy to put together, relaxed and inexpensive style. Even today I like the slim leg pants with oversized top look. To me, it’s timeless.
Ahh, you must have been the class act!, do we think they got tipped off on white B/G ...? The live aid white stage is so iconic, TSC look like the house band in their garms!🤓✌️
What a mesmerizing performance.
My favorite band!! Greetings from Nashville!
Back at ya from deep in da woods northern nys. 😊
'The class war's real and not mythologized, and like Jericho walls come tumbling down !' Marx and the Bible quoted in a single pop song. Must be Weller's ultimate anti-Thatcher song in his canon.
There are others check out a lot ot Paul Weller's lyrics such as Money Go Round & The Whole Point of no Return
I think that eveyone wants the best for their kids & wasnt Weller the major song writer?
Co-wrote songs?!
@Petra Schelm Paid up! Weller & Foxton are back on speaking terms & have even played together;-) Nobody is perfect Weller could have just done 1 & gone to live in the U.S!
Yeah, agreed. I’m also sure that any financial gain he made from this tune he just gave away to people with less money than him.
One of my 10 best songs ever. Great music and great lyrics.
I never even heard about this band. And it's 2023... :D
sames
Yeah, I agree wholeheartedly! I guess they decide to keep the good stuff on the other side of the Pond. Meanwhile we were forced to listen to insipid groups like Duran Duran. Sometimes life just isn't fair.
Oh still listening this in 2022 great song happy days
Wow, they're riveting live, discovered them a few months ago, can't get enough of their love, Paul Weller has charisma, passion, looks good too, this is a show i would have liked to have seen, well, lucky i have it on You Tube, thankyou! ET Leckner, Montreal
Damn...the Modfather rockin' the red quarter-zip and white slacks in '85. They truly were the Style Council...
i want to read the comments but dc lee is so beautiful...
Paul Weller noticed and had two children with her.
Most radical band/song at Live Aid
I loved the Style Council ! Great memories and this concert still makes me go Wow !!! today, so many talented artists just doing their thing for a good cause ! Absolutely amazing !
Awesome lyrics. We need to listen to them!!!
Kristy L Still relevant today:-(
So much energy great band.
I bought the first Jam album when it came out. Would never thought it would lead me to this. Genius.
Loving the tambarine guy, he's is a cool spaceman. And i want his T-Shirt
needs more cowbell
Absolutely 💯 fantastic. Was then and still is now. Cant stop watching. Very relevant at the moment, should re-release it. UNITY IS POWERFUL!
The legend. His little dance is iconic

Fab! Can’t stop watching this. Just wish I’d been there.
I lost count of the number of times I looked up this vid. Never gets old!
had the pleasure of working with the bass player camelle hinds a few times. we still keep in touch
深夜のスーパーで、この曲を流しながら、品出ししてました!ノリノリで仕事が捗りますよね👍
Paul Weller's dad-dancing is hilarious. . .but Dee C Lee - wow !
For such a talented musician, he has a serious lack of dancing skills 😅
Baila muy bien 🎉
i don't know whether it's my age, but i have an irresistible urge to put on my best cardigan and head down the estate to see if Dee. C. Lee is hanging out near the chippy....
bugsybielby Dude you and me!! I had the biggest crush on DC and in this video dancing with such joy just brings back such sweet memories of what now feel like simpler times.
What a fine thought ... if only we didn’t have to grow old ... I marvel at the youthful energy in this performance .
There were a thousand Dee, C. Lee clones near a thousand chippys. Our time was a good time.
Or should I say, "Didn't we have a nice time."
@@harveysmith100 and wasn’t it such a fine time….
He kills it.
I love this vid so much.
Most awesome band!
D.C. and Weller just tearing the shit out of this great song
Raw energy... amazing.
I remember waiting for them to come on Live Aid
Second band on, I think.
Fantastic - I didn't even realise they played Live Aid. I was thinking - post Covid19 we should have another celebration like this for the Nurses worldwide...whaddya think?
nope
@Henry Tudor obey your masters, they will keep you safe child.
Like a tik tok video. They like them don't they.
This is an outstanding performance from them all
all having laugh and the young lad on percussion is having the time of his life
One of the best songs of the 80s
One of the best ever bands
Pure passion! Still relevant in 2024..
Mick Talbot dressing like he's got an appointment at the lord's long room after the gig
Gives me goosebumps
Me too. So powerful.
Weller still had the same “anger” from the jam in his performances - love it ❤
Wow...how powerful they are...!!!
I wish we could go back 1985..
One of the coolest cats Britain has produced and that's a big field!!!
I was in the army in 1985 and had no chance to attend this, but no matter. Love this song and this band !! One of my favourites.
Thanks for the service 👍
This song was so underrated, shame it’s never played on the radio.
Great performance, I saw them live when they played in NYC
Best concert ever ..never will there be another like it ...and sure the iST time I have ever seen this ...which is odd..I thought I have seen every band .
Killer performance x
Still so f#ing good in 2023
カッコいい❤️
It's a great stage! !!最高にカッコいい。
This song is brilliant and bringing back great memories for me 💖 this era of music and loved the style council thanks to who put this up amazing and yes I'm singing along to it lol can't sing a note but give it a good go thanks again
Great to see him off the guitar and able to let the soulful voice really rip. Cool lead singer apart from all his other genius
Must’ve inspired Midnight Oil with this powerful song. ❤❤❤ wished they’d still be making songs like this 😢
my god could you imagine PW and members of the oils doing something together, that would be mega
Brilliant day, for a great cause and music what more could you want!
Key board rockin like a mf'er.
Jesus this is such a fucking amazing performance I don’t know how many times I’ve listened to it
I’m loving the tambourine player!
Probably the greatest songwriter of all times! C mon Paul. WE ARE MODS!
Great song and performance
Look who’s still going all these years on eh 👍👍
Simply the best x ❤
Class & Sooooo Lyrically Poignant!!! Excellent Performance x
Whatever happened to the so talented lady ,she was excellent!!
listening to this again expecting the singing and music to have dated badly and it being a live performance to a packed wembley, thinking it's gonna sound off,but it is truly astonishing
Just realized how great this is song is ❤❤
Dee C Lee so beautiful, cool, soulful, socialist, icon of the 80s
Hadn’t noticed PW ditch the guitar part way through the song. Performed with such passion (venom) too, brilliant!
Damn! That’s a good f$&@ing song!! I just love that beat and that whole energy of “charge” and busting through! That organ jams hard and those lyrics sound so good sung like that!! Hell ya!! We don’t have to take this crap!! Hehe
Weller at his best working class hero 🏴
The drumming is intense. :D
store.cdbaby.com/Artist/PatchouliBrothers
They were not performing for the people then, they were performing for us now! Please we need each other right now. It really is time to set aside are bullshit which they put in our minds and just unite and remember who we are.
Fire performance woaw i love it
Probably the only band at Live Aid that actually sang about why the world is so f*cked up.
amazing, my favourite song ever 👊🏼👍🏽🤩🎉
The most English dancing by Paul ever.
War das ein super Abend👍
If they'd gone on later when darkness fell they'd have gone down in history. Not saying they'd have been another Queen but this performance definitely would have put them up there.
You are so right!
