Walls Come Tumbling Down!" adds a dash of post-punk urgency to the glossy soul that had become the Style Council's stock in trade. Soaring, anthemic music that makes this single the best protest single of its time and place.
I love how its 'blame'. Its not just poverty, homelessness and everything material that the ruling class takes from us. Its the blame, the morality. You dont just get nothing, they tell you that nothing is what you deserve. It captures so much of modern society in a phrase.
Like, how can you even say that? From Wikipedia: "In 2007, the BBC described Weller as "one of the most revered music writers and performers of the past 30 years".[61] In 2015, Pete Naughton of The Daily Telegraph wrote, "Apart from David Bowie, it's hard to think of any British solo artist who's had as varied, long-lasting and determinedly forward-looking a career."[62] Please explain to me your rationale for making the massively uninformed comment you made. He's made SIXTEEN (16) albums. I'm so close to losing my composure, and I swear to you it has been wholly tested in the past 12 hours. Your comment makes it sound like "British bands out there" are meteors in space with destinations unknown. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot. 🔥

*yawn* what a lazy clichéd comment, and if you played this to the generation before us they would say this was crap and the 70's had the best music, and my mum doesn't really like much from the 70's but loves the 60's, whereas my grandad thinks everything from the 60's is just noise....do you see what I'm getting at? The moment you start saying all modern music is crap is when you have finally lost touch with modern music trends and you have become your parents. If you can't find any good music to listen to since the 80's (especially with literally every song, written and performed, being available to listen at the push of a button then you either aren't that bothered about listening to music or you're just using these crappy old arguments to get likes RUclips. There is literally no excuse for not being able to find new music that you would enjoy in this day and age.
@@andrereloaded1425 - Because it's such a baited question. It just becomes a "Eww they're crap!!". I don't know what you genres you're into. I like everything from Hip Hop to Dub Reggae, Death Metal to Jazz, Techno to Indie, Blues to Drum & Bass, Glam to Punk, Reggae to Funk, Disco and Soul and everything in between. I spend most of my time looking for, and listening to, new (or old) music. I have been collecting records since I was about 4 years old. My first "real" album that I purchased is still one of my favourite albums ever, which was "Dirk Wears White Sox" the debut album by Adam & The Ants. There's literally no point in me trying to suggest what bands I think compare favourably to older bands as you will just turn it into a musical willy waving contest. This is the biggest cliché ever, but it's true, music is completely subjective. But to get the best out of it you have to be open minded, and ready to embrace new bands, styles and cultures.
@@terrra_2024 ok no examples, just 'I like everything from A to Z'. I thought it was an easy enough question but you've even decided what I would say in return. Priceless.
Take a bow Mr Weller ! A spokesman for a generation he most certainly was. this song echoing what was going on throughout the crazy but wonderful 80's. Unity was powerful and yes, the walls came tumbling down !!!
Dee C Lee... (Onetime Mrs Weller)... Her voice, her style and her beauty: Thanks just what we need today! The Lyrics are so relevant even today! Anyone listening in 2019??
I have always wondered what life was like in the U.K. in the 80’s. Most of the musicians I followed in the 80’s were from there. It was a great time to grow up on the U.S. I think it was probably the last great decade.
Being a skin in the 90s it was just Ska, Punk, Oi, and Hip Hop. As I am creeping closer to my 50s, I have found an admiration of Paul Weller's discography from the Jam to Style Council. Just very smart and stylish.
God I can't believe that I was 19 when this song came out and I am only now understanding the power of it. I think it should still be an anthem for change because our very sorry current culture cannot do better.
Very relevant in today's society. Don't know if you know this but the title is in the Bible of walls that tumble Down..in jericho the walls came tumbling down..

Priceless.
He was so ahead of the times..
This song is & will always be relevent to me.
Not ahead... just observant. Same old same old. Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss. Etc. Nothing changes.
I was 16 when the walls came down... agree about the song.
@@lostnomads2285 everything changes " evolution consciousness"
Take a bow Mr Weller ! A spokesman for a generation he most certainly was. this song echoing what was going on throughout the crazy but wonderful 80's. Unity was powerful and yes, the walls came tumbling down !!!
Miles, EONS before their Time. Weller WAS, IS, AND ALWAYS WILL BE a 4cking genius.
I really really love this song! Brings some bitter sweat memories back in my youth in the 80's!!! :(( Love Paul Weller and his Style council
I totally agree!!! An amazing singer/songwriter/producer… the whole package!
I adore this music band, because, return on my mind 80 years and the parties with my two sisters and friends.
My Mum passed away this year in January. It gives me some peace with her passing hearing this. X
❤what a brilliant song the gifted quite often prophasize here's a great example ahead of its time🎉

Dee C Lee... (Onetime Mrs Weller)...
Her voice, her style and her beauty:
Thanks
just what we need today! The Lyrics are so relevant even today!

2020.x
Also James Browns daughter I believe...
Read it when I looked up her cameo on Guru Jazzmataaz
First album
"Never no time to play"
D c lee beautiful
I was a big fan back when TSC were new, saw the only tour they played in the US
I have always wondered what life was like in the U.K. in the 80’s. Most of the musicians I followed in the 80’s were from there. It was a great time to grow up on the U.S. I think it was probably the last great decade.
I haven't heard this song for such a long time. Lyrics are great.
+++Likewise and agreed!
😎👌 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Paul is a 5 star General!!! Always a commanding performance and deserves respect!!!!!
Dee C Lee Wow! I forgot what a crush I had on her- She is still gorgeous!
Bellissimo brano. Quanti ricordi. Siete stati un gruppo favoloso!
che nostalgia. .. ho tutti i loro vinili, dal primo ep all'ultima raccolta. Quando appoggiai la puntina su Homebreakers...mi commuovo
DC Lee dancing is so infectious on this film clip 👍
Lady in red smashed it
@1:30 Great drum fill to accent the poignancy of the lyric “Those who have, those who have not.” Love the purity of the female vocalist.
Ageless classy pop music.
Dee C. Lee love her! She was amazing in Wham too 👍 💖 😘 Voice of an 😇 Angel!!
Unity is powerful.
The lyrics have just as much relevance now as they did back then.
Nothing has changed:-(
Over 10 years later and its getting worse.
Dee C Lee, made this song such an outstanding tune.
Paul Wella xxx 💗 what a track. Yes it is more reverent right now in 2024 but only the best listened
Fabulous bit of nostalgia, and fabulous tune too.
This music and the non-trivial words how can you not move with this rhythm
Never predictable neither ordinary.
Love their voices!
Being a skin in the 90s it was just Ska, Punk, Oi, and Hip Hop. As I am creeping closer to my 50s, I have found an admiration of Paul Weller's discography from the Jam to Style Council. Just very smart and stylish.
Hope you still love ska 👍
I can't with the views from Warszawa 1985....WOW!
My. Ever. Changing. Moods.
One of my absolute favorite songs of all times.
It is hard for a band to repeat such a phenomenal success.
this song is good too
A truly AWESOME SONG 👍🤩 and how FINE does Paul Weller look 😘❤️ XOXOXOX
Get this back in the charts.never been so revelent.it's like people have just lied and let the government walk all over us.
God I can't believe that I was 19 when this song came out and I am only now understanding the power of it. I think it should still be an anthem for change because our very sorry current culture cannot do better.
Hello, how are you doing? It is nice seeing you here.
Very relevant in today's society. Don't know if you know this but the title is in the Bible of walls that tumble Down..in jericho the walls came tumbling down..
Love playing the style council in my car, windows down and loving life. The 80s were amazing...
Amazing how music is like a time machine to take you back to fine memories.
one of the greatest songs.
Paul is simply a genius
This song needs to be played all over the uk
why?
Just rediscovering style council and the jam ❤ ❤❤❤❤
