I'm reading the comments and loving that there are so many of us that remember when these brilliant tracks came out for the first time. To be perfectly honest, there were so many good bands coming out continuously throughout this time and such a variety of sounds that we were literally spoiled for choice. The whole era of the 70's 80's and 90's was just magical in so many ways. I thank my lucky stars that I grew up during this time because it was so very special.
Paul Weller was the best thing that ever happened to music. The Jam showed his gift of song writing and the Style Council was born and he showed the world skinny English men can have as much soul as any black singers. I'm a product of the 80's, the best decade EVER. Thank God I have a treasure chest of these riches📸

He lives near me and I saw him running out with a bin bag in his hand to chuck in the dust cart and he still looked like the coolest person who’s ever run after a dust cart. All the mods and polosites at my high school in Pasadena, CA turned me on to this dude when he was with The Jam in the late '70's. Those British blokes had a sense of Soul, R&B. Blues, Rock Steady and Ska that many places in America were late to the game. I miss his artistry.
Don´t be down on your fellow Yanks . You gave us the raw material to work with in the 1950´s and 60´s. The Brits are just exceptional at refining , adapting and loving music. We return it to whence it came ......................with all our love.
Never get tired to listen to this song, a masterpiece. Thank you for musicians like this! ♥️ Hope Paul Weller can see this message and know how appreciative he still is 🤗
This one always brings to mind my late Grandmother who, though born in 1905, had very a progressive taste in the music of the era. I remember visiting her in my lunch break, when I was an apprentice barber, when this came on the radio & she promptly asked me to 'turn it up Graham', & we both sung it through together. She also loved Barry White, Stevie Wonder & Abba when they came on the scene !!! Great memories, & proof that any specific piece of music can trigger a memory ~ This one being almost fifty years ago !

In memory of our beloved St Bernard Max who, was put to sleep on Thursday 9th September 2016. His unconditional love and affection made each day a joy. RIP my kindred spirit.
Someone you love will die in the next several years. You'll recall your awful comments, and this reminder. As you weep, you'll think to yourself "I deserve this."
I must confess to being a late arrival to The Style Council sound on just discovering this gem in Jan 2016. Funny thing though, I have been an unknowing Paul Weller fan from way back in 1982 when I was living in Trinidad and first heard The Jam with "That's Entertainment". Loved that tune and played it endlessly. Fast forward to 2016 and I was doing a google search for the genre that Swing Out Sister played and discovered the term "Sophisti-Pop" that was also played by bands like the The Style Council. I almost pasted up on checking the link but took the time to see what the Council was about and then found "You're The Best Thing"..... been playing it for the past two days - love it! Coming full circle 34 years later... Paul Weller of the Jam has another hit with me. Great stuff.
"Lying on riverbanks with Mick Talbot"- CLASSIC! It was Paul on his "Brideshead Revisited" and "Maurice" preppy trip, no doubt. Pop today is so foul and sick, anything this romantic would be shut down by record labels, in their bid to degrade any human within earshot. Great story, Edmundo - a classic RUclips rediscovery tale
Made a mix tape for a girl . Didn't we all? Loads of guys were trying this out. I recorded this as Track 1 side 1 Track 1 Side 2. 1 song was all that was needed . Melted her heart .....dated for a few years drifted apart after college but still my best friend 38 years after meeting her. Pretty smooth for a 16 year old with no game but an incredible music collection.
This very beautifl love song sung by this lovely bloke is a classic that will last until eternity ,,his voice is stunning the words of this classic belongs in a poetry book xx lol
Paul Weller is a musical Genius. This tune has over 40 years of longevity. Incredible 40 years from now it will hold its own and still be going strong.
You’re the best that happened - The Style Council - I really enjoyed this band with frontsman Paul Weller. I love this song its stood the test of time. Well Done Paul and boys.

+yodasodaskoda ..Kick out the style bring back the Jam !!
Oh Edmond... well come sir! Welcome! better late then never! :)
Alex Gayle I agreee
"Lying on riverbanks with Mick Talbot"- CLASSIC! It was Paul on his "Brideshead Revisited" and "Maurice" preppy trip, no doubt. Pop today is so foul and sick, anything this romantic would be shut down by record labels, in their bid to degrade any human within earshot. Great story, Edmundo - a classic RUclips rediscovery tale
me too
The, jam and style council...sooo sweet😂❤
Brings me back to when there were no phones no internet people just talked to each other reminds me of people u lost along the way
Made a mix tape for a girl .
I will DO $o !
I gotta tell ya,if you give me a mixtape with this song I be all over you haha
In 2008 I moved my family to Ibiza, this song was played a lot around the table with our new friends. Very special song ❤️
Hello, how are you doing? It is nice seeing you here.
The best thing that ever happened in music history is listening to this song 🎶🎷🎸❤🙏🏻💞
My gosh he was good looking, I had a massive crush on him back in the day.

Paul Weller is a musical Genius. This tune has over 40 years of longevity. Incredible 40 years from now it will hold its own and still be going strong.
Truly beautiful song, one of Weller's finest among many others...

When I first started dating my late husband, he phoned me at work to listen to this song playing on the radio. Sooo romantic xxx
Honestly...this has aged beautifully. 1984 seems so nice compared to today

Song writing in the 80's at its best - and oh yes - the sax...
Probably one of the best songs ever written.
One of my favourites. Definitely having this played on my wedding.
