I started my daughters with braids. The braid pattern is seen in a few braids, but not on most. I just wrap her hair that comes out around. Shes 2 years in. She has 4c hair and i started with tight braids. (She wore beads her first 6 months.
My son is 2 and I want to do the braid locs with him his hair type is 3A/3B I’ve tryed freeform with him and it only made 6 locs the rest of his hair wouldn’t loc for some reason.
I started my locs 4 years ago with braids. You can still see the braid at the end but not as clear as when I first started. Now it just looks more like matured locs but , I guess since it is my hair and I KNOW I started with braids, that I know what I see when I look at them. But I love my braidlocs.
I started my braidlocs last week! Yes, I know it's going to be a progress. But so happy I finally started the process. Thank you for your videos! I learn a lot from them. 😊
Like you said it varies.... My braid pattern has totally disappeared...at 9 months.... I'm now enjoying the journey and i know they will fill out.... Thanks
I'm so glad I didn't start my locs with braid locs. I actually started my with twists and I just interlock me new growth. Most of my locs don't look like twists anymore and there are very few of where you still could see the pattern😊
Shrinkage is crazy. I have no idea why I thought my locs wouldn’t shrink lol I feel like I have more shrinkage now than as a loose natural. I’m 2 yrs 6 mths in. 👉🏽 loc update coming soon on GatHouse Fitness channel 👈🏽
I started my locs with braidlocs too, and it did take like year to transform. Just at neckl length and still dealing with shrinkage because of my texture. Also, your hair is very nice and healthy, can't wait to get that hang time.
I think the tightness of the braid also makes a difference. Most of mine were braided extremely tight and they haven't changed at all. EXTREMELY thin. I have a few braids that are looser that have swelled and the lock pattern is completley gone. I'm 10 months in. Also, at least a third of my locs have sealed at the ends with the super skinny braid. I tried to interlock a few but for some reason that made them look even thinner!
You make a very good point! I agree that the tightness of the braid makes a difference. I didn't braid tightly at the root, but I braided the length of the braid pretty tight. Maybe the hair had no room to expand.
I started mine with braidlocs. My hair is super baby fine and I tried twists which literally unraveled the very next day so my braidlocs lasted a month so far and they look so beautiful. I can't wait until they mature. I don't know which method to use to retwist or retie them. I'm not really worried about the braid pattern so much as I kind of like it
Im doing the same my hair isn’t super fine in my opinion butttt I started with coils and they just fell apart same with twists so 😂😂 now I’m trying braids
I started my braidlocs on 6 inches of hair 4 months ago my pattern is still noticeable given the length of my hair I am thinking it will disappear in the next 7 to 8 months I love my braidlocs interlocking the roots is so easy I don’t have to retwist like most do when they start their locs with twists or coils
I'm starting my locs with my own hair in the 3 strand method I'm starting from relaxed hair I can't wait til they start growing Its only been 4 days now... I CAN'T WAIT
I started with almost waist-length hair but I did mini-twists instead of braids. I’m only 6 months in and at this point, I am seriously thinking about taking down the remaining twists and rolling them or...dare I say it, interlocking. I’m just not liking the twisted ends and with my length, they’ll be there for eons! I need to have a video call with you, stat, lol! I’m so serious! Thanks for sharing your journey! You’re my inspiration!
Your braids are so nice like probably the nicest I’ve seen 💯this is quality content and an informational video first loc video i watched all through 🤝🤝
I think it also depends on the texture of your hair, mine is very silky 3a/3b and i can tell the braid pattern is going to be here forever. but with silky hair starting with twists is impossible and interlocks slip out, so braids it is! I will either eventually snip the braid part or convert them like you did if I can find that much patience ;o) !!
@@slimiestvillian they never did go away! Snipping was the only option for me. I think if you make the braids very loose, they have a better chance. The kinkier your hair, the better the chance they will convert. My hair is very silky 3b and always just looked like braids. In fact, 3 years later I could still undo the braids just like I had done them yesterday!
@@kimberlyskrobol9167 I have one of the type 3s idk which exactly but it’s very soft and thick. Idk which method is best to start with.. can u help me?
@@KiyXVI if it is soft but kinky, perhaps either method will work, I think the silky hair types (very shiny naturally and hard to hold a braid) have the most trouble. Not a professional, just my silky haired experience ;)
I had no intention of ever removing the braids from my locs. The braids that I started with just happened to be taking longer than most to look like locs, so I decided to speed up the process by changing them to interlocks.
Thank you so much for that great idea you can just braid loose half way down and interlock the rest great great idea wow. Even if someone knotless braided it for me I’ll just let them braid half way. Making sure the part to hair ratio is on point. Yah bless you and thanks again.
I just started my daughter using braid locs because of her hair texture. Nothing else would hold and the interlock method, well since she is 14 i wanted to make sure the easiest takedown was possible incase she changed her mind at the end.. if she gets too far into her journey i will just wrap them with a natural braid hair to help blend the braid if possible
Wow they have grown so much! That’s what I was wondering when I had my braidlocs. Your locs look amazing! I’m on a new loc journey now with traditional locs and I’m loving the journey
..just found your videos. I just wanna say, even though you still have the braid patterns in some, I LOVE your locs! I’m considering starting off this way now.
I prefer the braided locs. It doesn’t unravel and it locs faster than the twists. If you’re a starter, or beginner with short hair, I’ll recommend the braided locs. Can’t call twists locs. lol
Yes! With looser textures this is awesome because the base is more secure and won’t come out as fast when you wash them, also two strand twists tend to loc faster and look more like locs faster than braid locs do.
Thanks for your video. I braided my hair and have been seriously considering locing it. I wasn't sure if I should twist or interlock. What products do you use?
I have just finished my braids and though I love them I was thinking of adding some wrapping hair extensions. I've already added a very small amount to the ends of my braids. When I say small I mean one single light weight piece. Not the kind where you feed in three pieces while braiding down. My concern is will adding a wrap put too much stress on my braids...even a small amount? Should I just leave them alone.
Thank you for making this video and I want to go with this journey and have big square parts and big box locs because I don’t want small and skinny ones and I want a full nice and because I have a big Afro.
Question can I start locking my hair if I have knotless braids? I have been wanting to lock my hair for some time now i just don’t want to go Thur the short stage and was wondering. By the way ur hair looks good.
I've been seriously considering starting my loc journey with braids. ... I keep my hair in small natural braids most of the time so growing them out wouldnt be too hard... I just dont want to interlock... do you have any suggestions for retwisting?
I only use the interlocking method. But I have seen a few other RUclipsrs retwist or palm roll their small to medium locs. You may be able to find some good tips.
It seems that the braid pattern disappears a lot quicker when braidlocs are started on shorter hair. But there is really no way to predict exactly when the pattern disappears. It depends on so many factors, like your hair texture, maintenance, ect.
They are all different. Locs come in a variety of sizes and can be started with many different methods. Braidlocs are locs started with 3 strand braids. I talk about it in some of my other RUclips videos. I also discuss 8 different methods to start locs in my newly released book, LIFE LESSONS & LOCS.😊 www.amazon.com/dp/B08C2BGWJ2
Can you do a video showing a close-up of how you interlocked only the bottom of your locks going upwards. I watched your other video, but I still don't understand the technique... I would like to use your method to fix bunching on y microlocs.
I've noticed if you start with looser braids they'll disappear faster. It gives them room to expand, shrink and loc
I think there is some truth to that. The looser the braid, the more room it has to shrink, get frizzy & expand.
I figured that out after a year....
That’s how mine were. They weren’t very tight at all and locked in 9 months
I started my daughters with braids. The braid pattern is seen in a few braids, but not on most. I just wrap her hair that comes out around. Shes 2 years in. She has 4c hair and i started with tight braids. (She wore beads her first 6 months.

I think braiding the hair loosely is better because the strands can become intertwined easier and looks more like a loc as it ages.
Braidlocs are best for wavy and straight hair texture because our hair isnt as tight our shit gets frizzy and wraps around the braids
Good I found what I been looking for thanks for information

Why did you let you braids grow out so long before you interlocked them? I love how you took them to the next level and I’m starting my journey soon.

Thanks! 😊 Congrats on the start of your new loc journey!
Ok so just start out with interlocs.
I wish I started mine with braids now 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Yes yes yes info on braid pics, I love it. I have had mine for 8 months and I have buds and braids lol but I’m so happy that you made a video.
Hey sis, love the progress and length!
Thanks! 😊
😫Please someone help! Can I braid the roots of my hair and then twist down the rest to start a loc process???

Is it possible to have braidlocs where the braid pattern will never dissapear if you only do interlocking for the roots?
Anyone... do you think you can achieve a full look with starting with braids.. or is it better to do the two strains twist ??
Flexible and bouncy sounds like healthy hair to me
I'm jus 8 months with my braid locs why I can still see the braids why it's not locking
Love your hair! I'm considering 2 strand twist locs.
Thanks! 😊 I've seen some beautiful sets of locs started with 2 strand twists.
