    Started my journey yesterday! Today I woke up to shrinkage but I know it’s all apart of the process. Every other hour, I hate them, I love them and the freedom that I am already experiencing is amazing. This is me and it’s sad but at 36, I’m learning to love and embrace myself in a society that does not consider women like me the beauty standard. This is me, this is who I am. I refuse to manipulate my hair to please others anymore. ❤

    I agree that your hair is gorgeous!! I have to use the tiny rubber bands for my braid loc journey due to my straight hair. I am trying to learn how to take care of the fuzzies. They are on the top and side of my face. Do you have any recommendations?

    • @EmpressMoxie
      @EmpressMoxie  Год назад

      Thank you 😊 Let the fuzzies stay and when the time comes to interlock each month add them in. Another option is to slick them down with edge control or gel.

    My son is going into 3 months of his braidlocs journey. I haven’t did anything to it but sprayed it down with water everyday. It’s starting to interlock with his other locs. What and how should I do it? I was going to cut it and use a crochet needle

    • @EmpressMoxie
      @EmpressMoxie  Месяц назад +1

      Hello, take a day to carefully separate the locs that have started to mesh into others using conditioner and warm water. After that wash and retighten the locs to freshen things up. Moving forward retighten his locs every months and avoid having it stay so long without attention or it will likely mesh again.
      If you can’t do it you can seek a consultation from a professional loctician before making any decisions.
      Hope this helps 😊

    How long did it take to get it done? I've thought about getting locs but I don't want to sit for a long time.

    • @EmpressMoxie
      @EmpressMoxie  Год назад +7

      To start braid locs, it’s just like plaiting your hair after wash day except they’re smaller so 3-4 hours depending on how small. Keep in mind they also do the parts a specific way so that when your locs form they’re even and you can style them how you want, so the parting adds time.

      I ❤'d this updated session with you. Thanks so much. Can you please tell me approximately how many braids you have or began with? My nape is shaved, but I currently have 79 box braids extensions in my hair. I want to start over and do knotless until it grows out. But I was thinking of doing more like 50-60 on my medium density 4c hair.

    Mine are so frizzy at my roots I feel like they are not as neat as they were.thinking about combining them out but im already 4 months in. also do you have any updated videos adding like box braids or something to them?

    • @EmpressMoxie
      @EmpressMoxie  11 месяцев назад +10

      Hey, at 4 months they are supposed to frizz. It’s a part of the process of the hair understanding its new chemistry. Our hair is living at certain stages and sprouts. It will not be “uniform” until 11 months to a year, and that depends on your hair type.
      Our obsession with neatness will continue to be tested when having locs. I’m Jamaican, and having locs is attached to a culture that is not afflicted by the idea of neatness because it boxes us in. It’s a journey of our natural self and beauty in all ways and some days we will be frizzy whether that be literally or figuratively.
      In the event that you can’t continue due to the frizz, I would suggest you try understanding your loose natural hair and build a routine with it. Don’t give up on it or see it as a challenge. You would subconsciously be telling yourself that you’re challenging or a hassle, and you’re not. That mindset allows European standards to win. This is all deep rooted psychology.
      Regarding your question about braiding locs, I only do braids once a year because they are a protective style and locs are already a permanent protective style. That can be a problem because braids stifle growth due to holding the locd hair in place and can make our locs thin out. That said, here’s the video of when I did braids over my locs this year (7 months ago):
      ruclips.net/video/GzXI0Wdzhg0/видео.html
      Sorry for the long essay, I’m just really passionate about locs and natural hair overall. Reading your comment gave me the impression that you’re a bit frustrated with your current loc stage. Regardless it’s your reality, and I am genuinely wishing you all the best in any direction you do take 💕

      Also, here’s the original video where I break down all the stages of the loc journey. You will see stages of my own hair and how frizzy it was at times:

      @@EmpressMoxie Oh no I love that you explain and went into detail.! Thank you! Honestly hearing that is what they are supposed to to do makes me feel better.
      It’s definitely a journey for sure! Iam learning to love myself and finding my confidence with them. I just need to continue to have patience and stay off social media comparing myself to other peoples hair who have years in. I actually had traditional locs and combed them out 2yrs ago because i wanted them smaller but didnt have this problem, i had patience,confidence all that good stuff just trying to figure out what happened .
      I currently just wear them down and don’t style them much because when i did have my other set of locs they flourished and grew when i didnt touch them or do all these things they are telling us we should do on the media. I dont think i will comb them out because i talk myself out of it every time lol .thank you so much!!❤️

      @@Teeeci I fully understand and relate. The comparison mode can definitely steal the fun out of your journey. Don’t let it win and continue to be patient. I’m happy we were able to talk today. 😊
