If the old wig is made from human can use it. Just make sure that it isn't too tangled if you plan on braiding it onto your hair. If you plan on making preformed locs, then you can just do that and then attach that. Synthetic hair can be used if you want a temporary style.
You could even knot your new growth. I've seen a lady on RUclips talking about knotted locs, and I've tried it on my locs and it's made maintenance so much easier especially if you have sections of hair that keep. growing away from your original loc. It helps to secure the integrity of your loc's density by keeping all of the hairs in their respective locs.

I did this to my microlocs a few months ago and was able to remove them with just a small amount of water, a dash of conditioner and rattail comb. You have to be super careful and super patient when removing them so you don’t mess up your microlocs if you have them like me and the girl in the video

You are wrong. They will turn into locs. There are many different methods to starting locs. That’s like saying someone with getting locs who start with twist just have “many twist.”

@Sweetlyniki Honestly I don't remember. I think 10 - 12. My locs are to my tailbone so you will need a lot of bundles.
