Surfside Jetty Fishing (I hooked into two GIANTS)

- Fishing the jetty using live shrimp. Landed a Spanish mackeral and hooked into TWO GIANT (what I think was Jack Crevalle) FISH one almost spooled me on my 2500 size reel. Both of those giants broke me off but I came back strong with a sheepshead catch. Solid day of fishing. Thanks for watching! I've fished those entries for 50 yrs , those were 2 big jacks you hooked up, I've have seen many people get spoiled on them jettiex

My guess they were jacks since they’ve moved in pretty thick. I paddled my yak into a school of jacks once. Hooked up on one so powerful that damn near spooled me until I forced the break off. They have so much power.

You're right about the drag. It needs to be a little tight but not too tight. Also try tying a mono leader to your braid using the FG knot and put your hook on with a trilene knot. That combo has GREATLY improved my landing ratio. Both knots are nearly indestructible... unless I make a mistake.

I believe jacks and I know your feeling when those 2 big ones got away. Same happened to me, but on my kayak at west bay. 3 big ones busted my line back to back. Did you kill that mosquito at the end of your video

Very nice video! I would definitely upgrade on a heavy duty rod and reel and possibly line being that your line snapped twice on you and that fish man handled you. Probably was a huge Jack. Love the footage!

I’m going Saturday hopefully I’ve fished the north jetty in the ship channel, so I’m excited to give this a try.
Did either of the big fish break the line or take the hook? Hard to tell in the footage.
When jacks are hitting they travel in schools I can nearly assure you that you had jacks on your line, not much else would pull drag that fast out there.
Mithik x neither of the fish broke the line they both took the hook. I guess my knot failed, I’ve never had that happen to me before
Mithik x dude yeah I think it was a jack too I kept seeing them run up and down the jetty rocks. I’ve never hooked into a fish that powerful it was insane!!
You have to use leaders in my experience. Jack are only fun though, can’t eat them. I just try and avoid them. Fun fights though.

I’m a fan of the 13 rods and reels. Which one was that u were using, and what kinda reel?
TC Canady thanks man! It’s a 13 fishing Fate reel that My girlfriend got me at academy I think for about $100. It’s a good rod. The reel I have on there is a Shimano Sahara 4000 series reel. I haven’t tried any of the 13 fishing reels, I always use Shimano. Maybe one day I’ll get a 13 fishing reel.
