- After waiting for nearly a month for the water to clear up, when it finally did, we headed out to the Surfside jetty. I knew that as soon as the water cleaned up, the mangrove snappers were going to move into the jetty; however, I wasn't expecting them to be so BIG!

Forget those reds, the mangos taste way better if you can get them without a boat. Did you know that a black drum has a more white
flesh than a red drum? What a great slam on those jetty fish, always a treat to see those mangroves in August as they move in. I have
caught them as far up as Sabine Pass but mostly in August. What a nice trip, live it up.
Mangrove are one of my favorite fish to target !! And black drum are very underrated table fair !
In Texas city dike I caught a bunch of them at night with dead pieces of shrimp and no lights. I took only two of the since the rest of the mangrove were small

I know you probably have posted or answered before, but, can you explain your cork set up, and style of hook y’all are using please?
I’m using a slip cork fishing around 11ft deep. And size 4 j hook
would you mind sharing the length and poundage, action of your rod?
Where did you get that net with the super long handle? Been looking can't find nothin even close to that length.

The sinker would depend on the current but the hook size I recommend is size 4
As a beginner what rod reel would you suggest for catching mangroves and other fishes in there including brands sizes of reels size of rods medium or medium heavy all details including what baits lures would be helpful if you give detailed info, much appreciated
Id recommend a size 9ft rod if you are a beginner a heavy power if you are very experienced then a light power rod. I can’t give you a brand because there are many out there. And for reel Shimano nasci 5k with 20 lb power pro. And best bait for mangrove at the surfside jetty is live shrimp.
Finally somebody who knows what they are talking about mangs are the best tasting inshore fish

The water was a bit sandy. Pelagic species like Spanish mackerel don’t like that! The wind is not great because it came from the south west. South west wind pushes dirty bay water into the jetty
Mangrove Snapper is delicious but not as good as Pompano.
I have to disagree I think mangrove have way more flavor. Pompano are good too don’t get me wrong !
