the link to the clock spring he used from amazon is not working. i am finding some that are north of $350, but curious how much this one was and where you got yours from
Excellent video sir! I had this problem with our 2013 JKU and the dealer quoted $750 to replace it and 4-5 months to get the part. I immediately went home and ordered the part through Rock Auto and had it in 5 business days. With the help from your video, I had the whole job done in just one hour. This is an easy job and your video is aces!!! Thank You!
The clock springs on our JKs is a known defective part and is covered under a special recall. The dealership is supposed to repair it for free. They may initially require a diagnostic fee but even that is waived if it's found to be just the clock spring. The part fails when exposed to a lot of dust and, last time I checked, they have not come up with a replacement part that is not prone to the problem. So they technically have to keep replacing it until they come up with a permanent fix. The tech bulletins for this issue aren't hard to find online. Just an FYI for anyone else dealing with this. Also, fyi...I've had mine repaired once like this already. Now I need another one and jeep is jerking me around, making it hard by having me come in and out, over several weeks, long story. They've had my jeep 5 days and still didn't get it done. So in the end, if you don't want to be without your jeep that long (for a 1 hour dealer job!) Might be worth it just doing it yourself.
This was a great tutorial. My airbag light was on for months and I was told by a dealer it wasn’t covered under the recall. I followed this and it probably would have taken less than 2 hours, but I didn’t have a small handle t20 for the 2 screws in the back of the clock spring to get it off and put them back in. Took some trial and error creativity. I decided to replace the 2 side switches as well, and one of the new ones was faulty. The windshield wipers wouldn’t turn off. So I had to take that back off and put the old one back on. That was fun... Should have followed the old rule: if it ain’t broke….
Great job Dale on the diagnostic and replacement. My wife's 07 JK went under the recall for the airbag and they also changed the clock spring . Dodged the bullet for sure. Take care and be safe sir.
Hi Dale, you made replacing the clockspring on my 2014 JKU a breeze! Thank you so much for taking the time to film it, edit it, and make it understandable for me! See you on the trails!

Great video! Super helpful! Im having the same symptoms here on my 11 JKU. My guess was the same being a bad clockspring as my airbag light fluctuates with steering inputs. Weird thing is horn and cruise still work. Ive heard those two don't work with a bad clockspring. My local indie Jeep guy pulled the same code, but he referred me to the dealer and he thinks its a wiring issue and not a clockspring. He stopped at the code and did nothing else as far as diagnosis. I still think its the clockspring based on symptoms and will throw it in and hope my guess is correct. I find it hard my 11 with 80k on it has wiring issues when the clockspring is such a common issue. Just surprised my local Jeep indie stayed away from throwing a clockspring in it.

Very helpful video. Thank You for sharing! JFYI, your two links to the JK clock spring and the wheel puller do not work. I was able to find the puller kit as a loaner from Auto Zone.
Yesterday my horn on my 2007 JK started to go off randomly and today the airbag light came on and using JScan I got the error code B1B00 (driver airbag squib 1 circuit low). After watching your video and the fact that you got B1B01 (circuit open) I’m guessing that my clockspring is the cause, what do you think?
GET YOUR DEALER TO DO IT FOR FREE. For 2007-2011 Wranglers, there is a recall on this. Check the two NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V288000 and 13V176000. My dealership was going to charge me $1600+ for a new airbag on my 2011 Jeep Wrangler. I had to ask 3 different advisors to have the "technician" check the clockspring first. They finally checked and replaced the clockspring under the recall with no cost to me.
I like your safety precautions! We have set off a few at our fire department during training. They are definitely a “bomb”! I looked for your JOIN button and it does not show up on my screen. Curious as to you membership but can’t get there! Cheers
I have a 2006 Jeep commander. When I was driving my speedometer, tachometer, coolant gauge, gas gauge, turn signals, front power windows, power locks, radio, sun roof, headlight control, wipers, all stopped working at once and all of my warning lights popped on. My drive select indicator doesn’t show what gear I’m in and my odometer is stuck on 167,141, it won’t change. I have lost my acc cluster when I turn the key, but if I close or open any door it comes back on with all the warning lights, but no gauges working, almost like closing or opening a door is triggering something. I’ve checked all fuses and relays and all seems fine. I’ve cleaned all my grounds in the engine bay. I’ve inspected most of the wiring in the engine bay. I have changed my ignition switch 2 times bought from 2 different stores. I’ve had the car scanned and got codes: u1411, u0114, u140e, c2202, u0100, u0141, and u0101. Been trying to resolve this for almost a week now. One time the car came back to normal for about 1 minute, I touched the power button on the radio and it went back to the electrical problems. I’ve since removed the radio and it still won’t go back to normal. This is very frustrating, especially when I can’t find anyone that has had these symptoms. My last resort is the dealership. Any ideas or ever heard of this happening? Thank You!
