this ended up taking me a couple of hours to do. i had to rent the steering wheel puller from the auto parts store, and i had to buy a flexible torx screwdriver thingie for $30 that came with the bit. i also had to use a dremel tool to cut a channel on both sides of the plastic cover behind the wheel to be ab le to get to the long torx screws that held it together. i got the clock spring from Jegs for $189 out the door versus $450 from my local auto parts store. thanks for making the video, it helped alot!
Thanks for posting this video. I was able to change my clock spring in about 45 minutes. The only difference was that I need a T15 Torx to remove those cover screws rather than a T20. Thanks for saving me lots to time and money!!!!
Thank you so much for this video! My 2015 Wrangler airbag light turned on when I pulled into my driveway. I didn’t do anything else. I installed a Metalcloak lift about 2 months ago and never had a problem until last night. I’ve read it might be the passenger side seat harness. But, it only came on when I spun the steering wheel. So, yeah. Clock spring. Dealer wants 750 to do it. I’m ordering the part today. Have a great day! Thanks again and God bless!
Awesome video and it help me a lot! I finished the work and replaced the part. Although it fixed the issue I intended, once I connected the battery again my check engine light and traction system lights came on (they were not on before). The scanner is giving me a U110A and U0126 codes. Any idea of what this could be???
Sounds like you may have lost communication with the steering wheel control module.. I would check to make sure you plugged in everything correctly and the connections are well seated.
Watched this video a dozen times, went to the dealer and picked up a clock spring for 535 OTD. Wasn't sure if 2017 was the same as 2016 and below because 2011-2016 all had there clock spring warranty extended to 15 years. Took about 20 minutes to swap, without rushing. On the first test the steering wheel controls and horn didn't work. Found a blown 2 amp clock spring fuse, which makes sense since it didn't just go out, but had a catastrophic failure. I'm guessing the shop that installed my PSC steering last week didn't strap the steering wheel in the center position and it ended up turned 360 degrees to the right. Thanks again.
Just a thank you for your video. Watched yours and a couple others which allowed me to complete this job in probably thirty minutes and surely saved a few hundred in repairs. Appreciate you and the RUclips jeep fam. 💪🏻💪🏻
great vid thanks! My 2010 Unlimited Sort was caught in the rain couple times this summer and now the horn sounds for a second at ignition and shut off. Do you think it could be the clock spring? Or does that sound like a short due to corrosion? Thanks!
Folks , there is an extended warranty issued by Jeep on clock spring . It covers 15 years with unlimited miles. I just got my JK unlimited Rubicon’s clock spring got changed from the dealer for free. Please contact the agency.
Were your blinkers and wipers working before you swapped out the part? Mine are not working (along with similar issues you mentioned) and I’m wondering if this part replacement would fix my problem…thanks!
Note, I called my dealership and they told me there is an extended warranty on the clock spring of some wranglers. My 2015 unlimited Sahara with 88k miles was covered.
Mine was under warranty as well at the time but the dealership told me the part was on backorder with no ETA. I ended up finding the part myself and decided to do the work.
2013 JKUR - I had my clock spring replaced (supposedly) under warranty years ago. It didn't take a long time for the steering wheel control buttons to stop working properly again. Do you think they ACTUALLY replaced it or is it possible the new one is crap too? Or is there something else that can make the steering wheel buttons work intermittently? Hate to do the clock spring job if it's not going to fix the issue. Thanks for the video. Not a bad job.
I have a question for you. My 2012 Wrangler out if the blue had no turn signals, wipers, Light, or horn. The horn and lights still worked with the key fob lock and unlock like normal. Could this clockspring cause that or more likely whT I think based on other videos amd websites I have read be the TIPM? I had one lady say it might be the clockspring.
I have seen these issues with a faulty clockspring but I wouldn't be 100% correct on that. I know the horn issue pops up a lot on a faulty clockspring.
I just replaced my clockspring today. Now I have a code that the computer cannot communicate with the steering column and the cruise control is no longer working. Any idea why this would happen. Thanks...
GET YOUR DEALER TO DO IT FOR FREE. For 2007-2011 Wranglers, there is a recall on this. Check the two NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V288000 and 13V176000. For 2011-2016 Wranglers see NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V288000. My dealership was going to charge me $1600+ for a new airbag on my 2011 Jeep Wrangler. I had to ask 3 different advisors to have the "technician" check the clockspring first. They finally checked and replaced the clock spring under the recall with no cost to me.
Great video Thank you. My left hand switches for the menu, and the rear steering wheel switches for radio control went dead in my 2015 JK last week. My cruise control still works. Dealer figures its the clock spring. I do not have any air bag lights or service lights on. The dealer here in Canada want nearly $600 for the clock spring.
As a long time Jeep owner/lover, I’m about at that point where I’m done with Jeep (aka Chrysler Fiat). 63k miles, I’ve had this clock spring issue, Oil Cooler housing leak, rocker arm engine tick airbag recall. Ridiculous for a vehicle with lower mileage. I’m actually afraid one day the engine will grenade because of their shitty build quality. My 2012 Toyota Tundra has 120k miles and not a single issue. No wonder the company is going downhill.
That does not seem normal, I hear of maybe 1 every 50-80K miles.. could be something else going on. Jeeps are prone to more weather conditions that could effect it as well though.

Did you have to program your clock spring? I had some issues with mine after install. My traction control freaked out a little. When I hooked up scanner, it gave me clock spring program error
Well, its possible but it could also be the cruise control switch. The horn switch and radio control switch are wired through the cruise control switch, so if it goes bad, the other switches die as well.
@tom hagen 🤣🤣 Hilarious that you commented on a DIY video about how it's not worth going to through the trouble. Maybe you should post your own DIY videos where you just walk in to a dealership, throw down your credit card and say "fix it please".
Do you really need to remove the dash panel off ? Geez just for a clock spring you got remove all that ? Who came up with that idea ? Those who build cars jeeps suvs they make it so difficult so you can send it to the shop to pay them. Total joke

Jeep extended the warranty on these, 15 years unlimited mileage. Just had my 2015 with 198,000 miles replaced under warranty
That's good information.. thanks Mark.
Where does jeep have info on this ? I ran my vin for my 2016 at the mopar website and shows 0 recalls for the clock spring.
@@georgiabigfoot IDK, my local dealer looked it up when I went in to price it out. But that was a year ago now ..

My left blinker was not working correctly and it worked fine afterwards.. this could be one of the reasons.
Just ordered my clockspring for my 13.dealer wanted Ransome $...gonna do it myself...thx for the video..
Nice.. good luck.
Did your horn stopped working before and after replacing it did it started working again ?
No, mine was fine but I have heard of others not working and then came back after replacing.
Should I be nervous about the airbag deploying?
Disconnect the battery to be on the safe side..
I used this video as a reference to replace my Evic Switches. Thanks a lot!

Hello thanks for making this. Do you have a working link for which clock spring you bought? Has it held up ? Thanks
Really helpful, mine just went out yesterday so that’s gonna be my next project.🤘
Super helpful! Changing out mine next week. 🙏🏾
Did you change it and if you did, did it work? I have the same problem but don't think it's my clockspring
Thank you, excellent video. Subscribed.
What was your time frame for the clock spring replacement?
Whats a part number for this anyone have it?
So after put put the keys in for spacers I’m assuming that worked to get the steering wheel off because the video went from the keys to its off.
that's correct.

Sounds like there is a bad connection within the clockspring or maybe even the clockspring itself. I would check all connections.
How did you get your dash lights white instead of green?
I never noticed that.. maybe it was part of my model package. I have the HardRock model.
Will this part make your
Acceleration shut down completely while going down the road?
Not that I know of..

sure thing, I purchased it from quadratec.com
Clock spring is covered under Jeep warranty for 15 years could have gotten it done for free parts and labor

that's very interesting.. I did not have to do anything. just unplugged the old one and plugged the new one back in.
i heard it was recall on it my track light comes on when i turn the steering wheel
Never set an airbag upside-down as you did! You're asking for a projectile instead of a pillow if that thing decides to activate.
Thanks Don, good to know and thanks for looking out.
Thanks!
Will this help with the horn? Mine just stopped working and the volume controls don’t work. My air bag light is NOT on...
Well, its possible but it could also be the cruise control switch. The horn switch and radio control switch are wired through the cruise control switch, so if it goes bad, the other switches die as well.
Be careful the airbags can be deployed.
There is a tsb for this😂
